Blacklisted Metal Albums

- Blacklisting albums has always been a very slippery slope. Whether it be the subjectivity of what cannot be condoned, accusations of censorship and anti-free speech business models and secondhand sellers pushing the market upward to obscene prices, let's talk a bit about the concept of blacklisted albums--specifically metal, since that's what we do here!--and a bit of my own philosophy on it.

There's seemingly always been a push and pull over the concept of having the right to blacklist albums and what should constitute it. I felt like it'd be fun and interesting to go into that concept and my philosophy surrounding it a bit!!!!!!! What're your opinions on it, though? Be sure to let me know down below. But for now, cheers, rock on, stay heavy and have yourselves a fantastic rest of your day or night, depending on when you see this!!!!!!!
Im pretty much have a similar opinion to Wyatt. Discog is a private conpany, but with them blacklisting albums will give said artist more traction and more money to said artist that the buyer doesn't wanta support.
Edit: why is Kanonenfieber on the thumb? Aren't they left leaning?
Kanon went through a period on a non-Discog site during my research being blacklisted and I thought it was ludicrous so I figured I'd throw it up there. I forget which article it cited as but I was literally like 🧍♂️
But absolutely Wyatts vid is dope as hell on it
Yeah I don't think Kanon right wing at all. If singing about history makes you right wing them we as an entire subculture need to talk about Power Metal and Sabaton specifically.
@@TheMetalTempestYT ight thank you for the info
I listen to Nokturnal Mortum, Burzum, etc because it's good music. That's all. It doesn't mean I hate anybody or preach the healing powers of foreskin, you know?
The music you listen to doesn't dictate your own beliefs. Well, it shouldn't. If NSBM turns you into a racist then that's on you.
God that's so real. 😭 if people believe that, that's a them problem
Burzum isn't NSBM anyway. Varg may be an NS piece of shit, but there's nothing NS in Burzum. Not on the first four albums (ie the ones that matter) anyway.
@@kingnotail3838 Exactly. Even less reason to avoid Burzum.
I agree. my beliefs are extremely different from both of my favorite black metal bands. Peste Noire and Grand Belial's Key. I disagree with both bands on a lot of things, but their music is just so goddamn good. Both bands, (excluding the obvious later work of peste noire), remained consistent with such a perfect aesthetic and sound that I cannot get enough of.
With bands like Nokturnal Mortum,Graveland or even Arghoslent there are always reissues coming out every year so the discogs thing isn’t an issue, but it gets annoying with bands like svolder and gestapo 666 who don’t like money farming.
It’s pretty simple in my eyes: if a metal album is banned or blacklisted, there will always be some people checking it out anyways to pique their morbid curiosities. I went through a phase of checking out some, uh… not so nice bands to see what they sounded like instrumentally, and I’m not proud of it, but others might not care as much as I do about the moralities of certain lyrics. It is what it is.🤷🏼♂️
I See it the same way. But on your thumnail is Kanonenfieber (the Orange One) They are not NSBM or something. Their are Anti war. They even made a Song called stop the war for the Ukrania war
Yeah! They're not banned on Discog specifically. I tried to include some examples of 'censorship' on both the left and right side of things ❤
Now i get it. Thank you for making it clear
I think that all records should have a “background check” of sorts before they get blacklisted. With Arghoslent for example, I don’t believe they fall under the NSBM category. Given what they’ve said in interviews and what their lyrics represent, I think they’re more so trying to discuss history from the perspective of an oppressive force rather than advocating for oppressive and discriminatory beliefs.
Companies should be more diligent about determining which bands they don’t want to associate with and why, so the artists have a better chance to gain a following and earn livable wages.
Interestingly enough Arghoslents demos and splits are allowed on discogs but not their albums
Considering who they collaborate with on split EPs it sounds like a big reach, but go off I guess...
For me two things come to mind immediately with "blacklisted" albums. The first is that private enterprises deeming something inappropriate for their target demographic is fine. The second is prices don't actually matter on a moral level - this is just capitalism functioning as capitalism does; and we live in a capitalist system regardless of if I like it or not. If someone chooses to sell NSBM or not is not my business, and them being able to sell it at an absurd price because "market equilibrium" is just a function of the system. We're not talking about government institutions or anything like that; and I think that would be obviously different. In that case I'd oppose censoring NSBM because once you say it's okay to censor one form of speech, what prevents the powers that be from censoring a form of speech I would choose to use or promote?
As an aside; there is only 1 political ideology you are banned from supporting in America and it just happens to be a leftist one. Interesting, right?
Trying living in the UK, Germany, Turkey or China. Free speech is not free there, there's a heavy price to pay for offending the establishment. Trust me, you don't want this unless you love being a false moralistic arbitrator via legal means.
I think Heavy Metal in general is all about being different from the others and sometimes it's about dealing with the worst kind of humanity with the lyrics or the band concept, don't forget that for you as an American NSBM (Expect GBK and Argoslent ) its something rare , Try to Make a band in Ukraine or Poland and you'll see the differences between what you know about metal in the USA that follows the norms and the PC couture and the Euro metal that keeps tradition and the whole concept of Nationalism and the love for your country .
Don't forget that the whole American culture don't consider Vikings and Medieval themes
If free speech is a public value than it ought to be a value even on private property.
I thought your take on it was quite balanced. I think (adding because I don’t think you covered this idea of the subject) that you’re right that say a record label doesn’t have to release a record that they feel doesn’t align with them now or in the present moment of it’s conception. I am however against removing that album years later once it’s already out there. I guess what I mean is you can’t undo a murder or history in a sort of what’s done is done kind of way. Not saying they’re bound to reproduce said record long after it’s original printing but I don’t think trying to scrub things from the net or history is ever good. How will we know how far we’ve come without being able to look back and see where we’ve been 🤘
Cool video 🤘 subscribe
I don't care tbh if it's brutal and I like it I'm going to listen to it. Wtf wrong with these people trying to tell people what they and can't listen to?😂
Ur so real for that
The only time I will not listen to a artist is if they have charge with messing with children or if they have pics or videos of it. Anything else I don't care.
unrelated to the video but you're hair is very pretty
Thank you
Nsbm its hard to like
One its related to whit the german painter
The other works like fanisk exist
Did someone blacklist Menschenmühle
yeeeah
Well the Dude behind this project is kind of a dork.
@@dr.kasimirmosebusch9575 it’s anonymous
@@TheMetalTempestYT why
@@ianstotts8853 Well Frank Riegler (the Guy behind the Project) allegedly bought clicks, when he released the album. He tried to intimidate former Bandmembers, who leaked the information. Kanonenfieber is basically about selling merch, with pretty generic black metal.
The guy isn't right-wing, but a corporate sellout musician.
And to be honest, Kanonenfieber Lyrics are pretty cringe.
I always thought there kind of a weird double standard when it comes to extreme metal. Everyone is completely fine with it if you mock christianity or talk about satanism, but as soon as 1 bad word is mentioned about judaism or islam, it is immidiately labeled as nsbm.
how are you going to deny that censorship isn't censorship. that's like saying censoring someone on youtube is not censorship. well it's blatant censorship don't say just go make your own youtube because Rumble is being censored at this very moment
is that the romanian flag or pansexual flag
Pansexual!
