I switched from the RG35XX H to the RG40XX H right when it was released and until now, I do not regret a thing. Ergonomics are way better and the stacked shoulders and the bigger screen work wonders for me. I understand that some might not like that because you give up pocketability. However, I mostly wear baggy pants and cargo pants anyway (like every good rapper should!), so I got more than enough room for that thing. Plus I rarely carried around the RG35XX H directly in my pocket, most of the time I had it in its protective case anyway. I also do not care much for RGB lights, in my humble opinion, they could've just dropped them entirely. However, I put them to good use on my Knulli-driven device: I wrote a script that makes them light up yellow/red to warn me when battery falls below 20%/5%, I think that's kinda neat, especially since the power indicator LED is not on the face side of the device, so you can't really keep an eye on it. Generally speaking, I agree that this might be the best H700 handheld experience so far.
@@christruebe the script only works with Knulli. Someone who knows how to code might be able to adapt it to other OSes, too. This is for sure the best built handheld under $100. It's so solid, so extremely well built, this might also be the first Anbernic that I felt ZERO need to open it up to mod it. All buttons, triggers, etc are perfect from the factory. There is almost no rattle. All buttons have perfect weight and clicks. Even the start/select and menu buttons, which are dome switches, are pretty well dampened (but still with a good click) so they all feel premium and solid. I have like 20 anbernic devices and all H700 devices too and I can 100% confirm that this is the best build and more premium Anbernic device bellow $100 (and it's close to $50 even). I really hope that this is a sign that Anbernic is actually raising it's quality and that future handhelds from them will have at least this great level of build quality.

If you buy this, spend the extra $20 and get the case, it's a good fit, and fits better in big pockets, bags, don't need to worry too much about screen protector etc.
Great review! If it not being as easy to carry around is the worst thing about the device then it can't be that bad! Got one coming later this week hopefully. Looking forward to it!

I bought 2 R36s for my kids but kept stealing one to play, so ended up buying a rg40xx h to put a stop to that. After seeing all of us, my wife became interested as well so now there's an rg cube on the way for her haha
I love the extra screen real estate. I feel a bit less squinty playing on this vs the RG35XX H. This will be my couch use device. I have other more pocketable devices to take on the go if needed. So far loving it for my use case.
For me the RG35XX-H was my first Retro Handheld because I wanted a modern pocketable console because the battery on my PSP is just not great anymore because I used it that much. For my second Handheld I got an RG351P used only for 40$ for GBA. Yes I'm weird, I know but right now I don't need a new and more powerfull Handheld to play GameCube and PS2 because I have a Switch wich has Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Xenoblade, Final Fantasy X, Dragon Quest and many, many, many more!
Despite the last 5 minutes trying to sell your fish (not comdemning; it's your job try to gather more sheeps) and some repeating about pocketability, i like the sincere look and sober feel of what you pointed; specially about "having grow up and not play to win, but to feel" since i pretty much relate to this words and also believe every single person around this damn world of ours would be better with this kind of thinking too. So... i couldn't agree more with you. It's dangerous to go alone, so i reccently get myself an RG556; this way i can enjoy "everything" my DSes can and some things my Switch can't in a quite big but yet carriable screen while also turning it into a secondary screen for my PC/home console when i want. It's a blast and have some NES to PS2 things at hand for the couple minutes after lunch is really good when my beloved Zelda is at another device - or not even that, cause i can save some versions of her on it too. I just need to do as a pokemon character and always have a bag with me. I could had got this 40xxH or something in its likes instead? I could; would be cheaper? Not so much considering the place where i live... but i believe that is the magic in these handhelds: you can ballance your needs with what they offer and pick your preffered form factor: this 40xxH would be my one if not ending so close as the 405 lineup in a matter of final price for me, which is just a step before the 556 i ended up with!
Hi Vlad I think that, like me, a lot of RG35XX-H owners were bummed out by the release of the RG40XX-H. Not because of the hardware itself, but because they would have preferred to buy the RG40XX-H instead of the other model. It would’ve been better if Anbernic had launched both models at the same time, so people could pick the one they liked more. Anyway, I bought it, and it should arrive tomorrow. I read on the MuOS website that the next update (2405.3 COOL BEANS) will add compatibility for the 40XX-H. I really hope it gets released soon, i can't live without it! Ciao fratello Manu
I have a cool fanny pack I rock around my chest diagonally, that would be a perfect fit for this. But I already have a Kishi v1 that I carry for my phone instead. I don't see the purpose of buying constantly outdated retro handhelds, when you already carry a much more powerful device all day anyway.
Even if this becomes a big channel (and I hope it does), I don't think you will have a voice to directly talk to Anbernic. The only retro handheld tuber I know that has that kind of relationship with some manufacturers is Taki Udon, and even then I don't think he is on great terms with Anbernic. I think the best way to get review units is to make a deal with a reseller, which you either have already or are working towards.
I've spent some quite intense days deciding if my first retro handheld was going to be the rg40xx h or the 35. I would play very happily on a bigger screen but since performance is the same I finally went for the rg35xx h because of the pocketability.
Don’t forget the very underrated Anbernic RG Arc! That one also has a 4in screen and stands as my current favorite Anbernic handheld. I would strongly recommend it to anyone interested in Genesis, Master System, and even Saturn despite its reputation for iffy performance, which is highly overblown imo. 2D Saturn games, of which there are many amazing ones, mostly run fine and even a good handful of 3D Saturn games are totally playable if imperfect. I think of it more as a bonus whereas the Arc’s main selling point is that it is literally PERFECT for Genesis. Keep doing your thing Vlad. I hold your channel in high regard and just love your positive, friendly personality and attitude. Good vibes always. It’s honestly refreshing. You’re going places my dear nerd.
Until next time when there’s a RG45XXH, we will hear that the extra half inch matters 😂. Overall I’m good with the 35XXH, heck I even play games in micro devices using 2.8 inch screens and still enjoy the games, it’s all a matter of preference.
This is my favourite in the RG-XX lineup. The 4 inch screen is excellent, the d-pad is looser than the stiff one on the others and more pleasant to use, the ergonomics are good, and the ability to install Knulli is the icing on the cake. Many people in the comments sections of other videos on this device believe that the TrimUI Smart Pro is the better purchase, but I can only suggest that they don't know the magic of a 4 inch 4:3 screen. sure, the TSP's 16:9 screen is better for PSP, but I would argue that the TSP isn't the best choice for PSP in any case due to it lacking the performance to run all games at full speed or to upscale them.
don't know what you're talking about but PSP games run better on TSP with Crosmixx than on H700. The 5-inch TSP screen with 4:3 games is still 0.1 inches larger than the RG40XX
@@pawelk.8325 Just to clarify, I did not say the RG40XX is better than the TSP for PSP. I meant that the TSP isn't the best choice for PSP generally - you'd have to spend more to get a genuinely good PSP experience without having to play a whole host of games at 1x or use frameskip. Best to save up for longer and get a used RP3+ if PSP is a priority. On the screen size: when playing 4:3 content on the RG40XX, there are no borders. That's way more preferable to me than a 0.1 inch larger picture floating in the middle of a gaping black void on both sides of it. I'm not knocking anyone for being okay with large borders (I wish I could tolerate it), but it just ruins my immersion. Peace.
Some companies are guilty of this (Anbernic) but it seems the brands with true quality space out there releases decently well (AYN). If a company releases more than 1 style of handheld per year you know theyre in it for the $ and only the $
As an educator I feel I need to point out that entropy is not a force. Pedantic Alert! There is no force carrying, fundamental particle called entropy. Now, the handheld... I agree with your premise - it's an evolutionary iteration and not a revolution in handhelds. The problem with this handheld is that it's not enough of an iterative change to make me want to order it with one important caveat, if I'm a collector. If I'm new to the hobby, this might be a very attractive handheld for the price.
for that big of a device, I think I would like it to be more powerful tho. Battery life is great but you are going to realistically only play this at home so unless you want a cheap streaming device that also plays snes well natively. The other h700 devices with the 3.5inch screens make way more sense imho.
I went from the RG35xx h to the Strimui Smart pro, I´ve had de miyoo mini and also the old and new Rg35xx as well as the Powkiddy X55. If I were to chose pocket friendly, then I stick with miyoo untill the release of the Miyoo Flip, If i want joycons, H or 40xx. And if I want long battery but same emulation PLUS Worse joycons.. Trimui. If only the trimui had proper joycons it would have been perfect for its current price range T_T (TSP right now its at about 55usd)
I exchanged my RG35XXH to TrimUI Smart Pro recently (and added CrossMix CFW) and I'm surprised how good TSP is! And I don't understand what people have against it's joycons. They are very smooth and responsive and truly analogue in contrast to Anbernic's joycons. Maybe the range of movement of TSP joycons isn't great but apart from that everything else is outstanding! Maybe the thing is that TrimUI have recently improved their Smart Pro in various aspects and the new version is deprived of its previous flaws. I bought mine TSP for 40 USD.
I much prefer the stacked shoulder buttons on a handheld I’m going to use them on… this isn’t one of those handhelds inline would have been fine. Though it does sort of add to the handhelds comfort that would have been a stretch for the fingers. Great review as always brother!
I main concern is if it gets a lot less use time given the smaller battery and bigger screen. Also not getting another anbernic until they fix their joy con issue.
Ima be honest every time I see a review on this device I cant help but think that its just worse than the Trim UI Smart Pro, possibly the only thing that the 40xxh may have over the TSP are the analog sticks, the TSP has pretty much the same performance, bigger screen, larger battery, and is still pocketable if you want to bring it somewhere. But Maybe I'll have to use one myself to decide.
Fair points. The RG40XX H and the TrimUi Smart Pro are both amazing devices. (I'm gonna revisit the TrimUi Smart Pro soon actually). For me, the main differentiator is the aspect ratio. A lot of these retro consoles use 4:3, which technically makes for a way less long and more portable device. The TSP is unbeaten for anything PSP at its price point, though. :)
@@VladNerd Hi Vlad, if you re-review the Trimui Smart Pro theres a Crossmix update which has added more functionality to the device. It would be awesome to have your take on it.
Right thats it, I am no longer watching your videos whilst eating my breakfast, I almost died. The turns them into german people comment made me laugh so hard I inhaled my coco pops rather than swallow them. I have just spent 15 minutes cleaning half chewed and very sticky brown goo off my keyboard and monitors. It was still worth it for the laugh alone :)
I have the Flipzizzle, the RGV10 (aaaaaawesome screen for GBA), the RGB30 (THE Pico8 machine) and the Zazzbiggle is soon to come in the mail xD. I need help.....
Just got my 40XX 2 days ago and loving Knulli on it. I am investigating on how to use Synthing to sync saves and states between all the devices I am accumulating. Down the rabbit hole I go!!
I'll stick with my Trimui Smart Pro. 4:3 content is about 4" on that, but it's 16:9 5" screen is vastly superior to the 40xx h for gba and psp. Cheaper too.
I am a bit dissapointed from the stock firmware of this device. I dont like the menu selection of the emulated systems.. i prefer custom firmwares like Amberelec on my rg351v.. and, one of my favourite retro system, the Amiga Emulation, is very bad on this stock firmware. Must be a software problem, because N64, PS1 and even Dreamcast runs very well on the device. Hope, there will be some better custom firmwares out soon for this thing.
4:17 What are you going to use analogue triggers for?!?! How does one even ask that?!?! I don't understand why they have to make the shoulder button setup so LARGE! they could easily move R1 and L1 closer to the lip of the face plate then move R2 and L2 closer. I did buy for my OG RG350 the Sakuramod analogue stick mod which removes the stick and leaves a textured sphere instead. I wonder how many analogue stick devices like this has this mod made for them. Yup, I can live without the RGB lights. if it saves like $5 off the cost... The 4" screen is welcome, Ive gotten use to using the 3" V90 screen and my 3.5" Rg350 screen but I'd like to see a 5" screen with the GBA aspect ratio. We have enough sub $100 devices that can play half the dreamcast and PSP library, we need more sub $150 devices that can play ALL Game Cube and PS2. Nice review, this device is sorely missing analogue triggers, probably this devices BIGGEST fail.
it sucks. thumbsticks isnt in right spot for thumbs. they should never go right below buttons due to handheld not being wide enough. should be inner more than buttons.
I'm here impatiently waiting for the release of an Android 4:3 device with decent specs and a robust build quality at an affordable price. Doesn't have to be the latest Snapdragon, just something that can handle all 4:3 content without struggles (PS1,N64, DS [Not 4:3] & Dreamcast included). PSP, PS2 & Gamecube, I can do all that on my PC with 60 FPS and widescreen cheats and texture packs. I don't care for the 1:1 aspect ratio craze going on, it's too niche for me but I can understand why people dig it. Also, RetroArch need to work on some of their cores because they're really not well optimized tbh but that's a whole other can of worms. Rent over. Rant over.
Once again Anbernic had to copy the competition because he himself was unable to make a good device. And then there are the thefts of games. It's a bit embarrassing to have Anbernick

Hi Vlad
I think that, like me, a lot of RG35XX-H owners were bummed out by the release of the RG40XX-H.
Ciao fratello
Manu
I have a cool fanny pack I rock around my chest diagonally, that would be a perfect fit for this. But I already have a Kishi v1 that I carry for my phone instead. I don't see the purpose of buying constantly outdated retro handhelds, when you already carry a much more powerful device all day anyway.
Dude I love your videos so glad I found you. I get as excited for your videos as much as techmoan and dankpods now.
vlad you can't do this. i've been trying to find reviews to talk me OUT of buying this.
Don't do it. Unless you want to. 😄🥰
Don't do this to me Vlad you're the main reason I decided to buy the 35xx h. Now you gonna make me buy the 40xx?
Fine! But let this be the last time
To be fair, I think you're gonna be super happy with the RG35XX H as well, it's an amazing device.
That .5 inches though 😄
I love your videos so much. Easily ny favorite retrohandheld reviewer
I would play very happily on a bigger screen but since performance is the same I finally went for the rg35xx h because of the pocketability.
when I owned a 35xxH I always wished with a handheld console like 40xxH because it has all that aspects that 35xxH lacks
Agree. I don't need RGB lights. I even turn off the RGB lights on my BSP d8 controller 😂
@@pawelk.8325☝🏻
Peace.
@@pawelk.8325 the thing is yeah can run psp but 2x, 3x resolution?
Ayy, 39 seconds old is practically ancient for handhelds these days.
Some companies are guilty of this (Anbernic) but it seems the brands with true quality space out there releases decently well (AYN). If a company releases more than 1 style of handheld per year you know theyre in it for the $ and only the $
I'm going to upgrade my RG35XXH to the RG40XXH. This has sold me. Keeping my RG556 over the cube though 😂
i just got the sp and then this came out, i think ill make this my next purchase if nothing new comes out
As an educator I feel I need to point out that entropy is not a force.
I love this answer. Also, you're right on the money with entropy!
@@VladNerd Thanks man!
for that big of a device, I think I would like it to be more powerful tho.
@@skowron_1978 try the UA-cam player! It’s getting there!
@Vlad all subbed up and thumbed up I really enjoy your vids 😊❤
Welcome aboard! ❤️
I much prefer the stacked shoulder buttons on a handheld I’m going to use them on… this isn’t one of those handhelds inline would have been fine. Though it does sort of add to the handhelds comfort that would have been a stretch for the fingers. Great review as always brother!
Thanks, my guy!
I main concern is if it gets a lot less use time given the smaller battery and bigger screen.
Also not getting another anbernic until they fix their joy con issue.
Excellent editing as always
I couldn't decide between them, so I took both. Even though it's the same processor, the magic of Anbernic is something unique) Damn Chinese magicians
Exactly what i was thinking.
@@VladNerd Hi Vlad, if you re-review the Trimui Smart Pro theres a Crossmix update which has added more functionality to the device. It would be awesome to have your take on it.
@@kiko8u andddd you just guessed my video idea. 😄
Guess the cat's out of the bag. I'll cover it fairly soon. :)
@@VladNerd Awesome!
Sorry not sorry. 😄
Also, thanks for the kind words. ❤️
LOOOOOL
best intro ever!
I'm managing expectations from now on
Achtung! German Motherflippers are watching you now, Vlad. 😉
They know I love them. ❤️
But why get this over a Trimui smart pro?
I enjoyed your video😊👌. Thanks 👍
bro got me about to spit up my gamer sups laughing
I have the Flipzizzle, the RGV10 (aaaaaawesome screen for GBA), the RGB30 (THE Pico8 machine) and the Zazzbiggle is soon to come in the mail xD. I need help.....
You ever heard about slim cases? Put it in that and pocket it :P
Keep up the awesome work!!
OMFG! This is THE FIRST SuperThanks that I received ever since I started the channel!
Thanks a lot man, you've made my day! ❤️
Just got my 40XX 2 days ago and loving Knulli on it. I am investigating on how to use Synthing to sync saves and states between all the devices I am accumulating. Down the rabbit hole I go!!
I like how I review it😂.
Anyway I saving money for my Nintendo switch 2😅.
Love it had a dog name Broly
I m fine with my over 6 months old rg36xx plus..
..as a angry German man
Hope you're not taking it seriously. I love you guys over there. 🥰
Hey, 3.5 inches is perfectly average. What really matters is the handhelds personality.
so can this thing play ps1 n64 or can dreamcast and ps2 too ?
It can play up to some Dreamcast, but not PS2.
I went to this one after trying the 28xx, found out i am getting old for mini screen.
SHOULD I UPGRADE TO THIS FROM 35XX H?
Totally depends on you. I'm actually gonna make a comparison video for these two soon!
I'll stick with my Trimui Smart Pro. 4:3 content is about 4" on that, but it's 16:9 5" screen is vastly superior to the 40xx h for gba and psp. Cheaper too.
But it’s huge and that matters to many ppl.
@@smokehead5318 The TSP is 0.87 inch longer than the RG40XX...
But wait, there is the rg40xx v now!
I will wait for the 40xxsp
Wonderfully objective and informative content as usual Vlad...like and subscribe peeps!!!!!!
subscribed my dear nerd!
Heck yeah! 🥹
you are the best
Thanks, my guy. 🥹❤️
My 40XX came with a dead white pixel 😭
Got a partial refund and ordered a new one
I'd suggest to get an OLED vita and jailbreak it for hombrew. It's worth the 120-150 bucks
I don't know if It matters to me but I was told to matters to her.
Rent over. Rant over.
so...size does matter...
Still Wait rg40xx SP 😂 ..
❤
Dude, this video could be 2 times shorter with the same content !
Less dbz more gaming
it's just a crappy trimui smart pro
like much crappier
I don't need that extra half an inch personally, 3.5" is more than enough to get the job done
RGB m as kes u gay faster ??
Once again Anbernic had to copy the competition because he himself was unable to make a good device. And then there are the thefts of games. It's a bit embarrassing to have Anbernick
