Talking about what it is and what might be different is more valuable than harping on and on about what's the same just because it feels boring to you.
True. All of the reviewers are calling this thing boring... here I am loving the hell out of this handheld, it's basically PERFECT for the kind of retro games I play (GBA/SNES/Arcade/PS1), the screen is gorgeous, the ergonomics are divine for how small it is, the screen to body ratio is the best I've ever seen (compare this to the Retroid Pocket 2S for example to see what I mean here). The only two real flaws it has is that the battery management is not great either on stock or CFW and charging can be weird, and also the analog sticks are a bit too raised up, if they were recessed it would feel better in the hands and in the pockets. But it's so good otherwise, like a god-tier retro experience.
@TechDweeb, I really appreciated you sharing the story about your Uncle. It really resonated with me, as someone with Cerebral Palsy who has issues with legibility on these smaller-screen devices. Thanks!
Yo, just wanted to say that your story with your uncle was wholesome my dude. It’s the little things that you do for your family that count. Subscribed!
100%. I have the 35XX-H and it’s awesome. But this thing has a bigger screen and I think I need it just so I can see it better. Lots of us retro people are getting older now and our sight isn’t the same.
@AkaiSuzume of course i like critique, but they're not complaining about the features and performance, instead they're all bitching that there are too many new releases. But that's a stupid argument since this one is a unique form factor with its 4 inch screen.
Looks great and i ordered one last week.. 4" screen and 4:3 ratio is killer, i'm only interested in arcade/neo geo/retro games up to snes/md possibly PS1 and Dreamcast so can't wait to get it. Have the RG35XX and the 3.5" screen is just too small for my aging eyes.. hope Anbernic carry on this trend and produce a 4.5" or even a 5" screen in 4:3.. i'll buy those without hesitation too.
Some of us are tired of having a handheld 2 inches from our eyes just to see the games, this is the Zazzy handheld for us 😋 My TrimUI finally has got some real competition, and this one has a better OS IMHO. Awesome review as always Mr. Dweeb!
Thanks for this review. There seems to be over a billion different retro handheld system and it's been hard to decide which one to get. Hence, I'm glad that you said what you said at 0:24. Because, it's hard to know the difference between the billions of different retro consoles out there. The biggle sounds like a great one!
I’m really glad you’re given this one some love! To me the 405M is the best emulation device out there right now and it’s for one reason, it’s nice big 4 inch screen! It’s completely unique and if you’re like me and like to have your games look like they used to then this screen is perfect for you. I’m really glad there’s a cheaper option now for people to get in on the big screen fun! Put a CRT shader on it and it’s like having a mini CRT TV in the palm of your hands. No more black borders! ✊🏼😤
Love this! I appreciate the approach toward this one. Seen a lot of "It's just another X chipset!" but it's like, guys, remember, a lot of people watching this are researching their first handheld. Personally, it's my first, and after a lot of research I bit the bullet and went with the 40XX-H. TrimUi was a close second, but this seemed like a more reliable device, with more "solid" features and screensize and such. Maybe not as flashy, but reliable.
The blue one is beautiful. The stacked shoulder buttons make it worthwhile. Once you go stacked shoulder buttons you don't EVER want to go back to in line shoulder buttons.
just bought a zazzbiggle for the biggler screen!! Love my bizzazzle, but don't love holding on to it... can't wait to enjoy holding & seeing my favorite games 😎
You are actually very good at this reviewing stuff. Thank you for bringing this one to my attention. When I feel like graduating from my RG353m, this one might be the next one to go for! ❤
Nice one, TechDweeb! I too thought it was weird that lots of reviewers treated this as more of the same. It's not! It's incremental improvement. Two steps forward one step back a couple times a year is many steps forward after a couple years... And I don't plan on dying soon!
Not to mention how NOT making big changes helps the Custom OS scene so much! I wanna see how far muOS and Knulli can push this chipset. Having a new one release would potentially divide their work load.
Your output is so great, I'm just catching up!! 😅 I was going to skip this one but I might just pick one up now that General Dweeb officially named it, I can give the Zazzbiggle some attention!
I decided to finally get a retro handheld for myself. I decided on this one for a few reasons and you hit on it just right. The screen size is very nice. But the bigger want of mine was for a system with the stacked triggers. The linear triggers are great for pockets. But I'm too old and set in my ways of using the stacked triggers. This one scratches that itch without getting crazy sized
I was thrilled when they released the RG40XX H! I'm in the "old eyes can't see tiny screens" category, so the bigger the better. I do tend to like my TrimUI Smart Pro better though, because it has a higher res screen. But you can't beat the RG series devices for available firmwares and choices.
I just got my hands on the Trim UI Smart Pro and I've been playing on it for about a week, my pants tend to have deep pockets so I've had no issue bringing in the TSP anywhere, that being said I did have to upgrade to custom firmware on the TSP to get the performance I wanted out of the device. I personally really love the bigger screen and wider feel as it honestly feels like a premium device, I do plan on upgrading to the RG Cube eventually but I'll keep the RG40XX in mind if I ever need a more compact version of my TSP.
i dont get the complaint about Anbernic releasing too many variants. maybe because they already have a lot of these handhelds, but if you're new to the scene, the RG40XXH is perfect.
Dweeb, you're on the cusp of needing a larger screen as well. Early 40's is when most people's eyesight worsens to the point of needing reading glasses. Just another check point in the game of life. Keep up the fantastic work!
Yeah, I was so pleased when the Powkiddy X55 came out because the screen is really big, obviously at the expense of AHEM... pocketability. When you reach over 50, it gets even worse, your eyeballs actually shrivel up so bad your sight becomes wrinkly, and that makes it harder to see the screen properly. It makes it look like you have a filter turned on. Bigger screens compensate for this though
Throwing a little Julian Melnik energy into the UA-camr stew. Or maybe John Darko? Maybe it's not the most original, but I always appreciate coffee snob b-roll.
I love the 4inch screens! It just the perfect size. I have the 405m but I really like the feel of the plastic on some of these devices too. It reminds of the good old dmg. I just ordered the 40xxh in black and can't wait to play some Snes on it! Cheers. Always enjoy your videos. Cheers! :)
Anblernic is indeed releasing WAY too many. With that said, I will be picking this one up, this is what I wish existed when my dad was asking about them.
Your content is always with some of you in it and that makes difference. As of the Zazzbiggie - same same but different but still the same .. I would pick the trimui smart pro it kind of grew on me😅
I've been waiting for the Zazzbiggle. I love testing my Portmaster games across multiple Handhelds.I just got REDO, Treasure Hunter Man 2, and Daydreamer: Awakened Edition playable on these Handhelds. 😊
Yeah, I have all the Anbernic XX like models and bought the 28xx. Before it shipped I thought "why am I getting this, the 35xx H is the same but better" ... ... ... I was *WRONG!* I love the form factor. I'm currently liking it more than the XXSP even.
In a world where handheld reviewers are a dime a dozen, TechDweeb stands apart. It's because of the novelty of the dweeb persona and how he sticks to that persona while making the videos entertaining and informative. Also, the cartoon caricature, I love it!
This is an improvement to the 3 or 3.5 inch screen but to call it huge or massive is stretching it. Hope they make it in 5 inch screen. Thanks for the video man❤.
I enjoy watching your videos while making my morning pour-over coffee. And then you went and made your pour-over coffee. And wow, It’s like we were coffee making buds in those few seconds. Great take and positive approach to this device.
On a side note, most console manufacturers are also game creators or at the very least, work with game creators. So console manufacturing is only part (albeit a large part maybe) of their revenue. For the retro handheld emulator market, the console manufacturers are only making and selling retro handhelds and they likely dont have the kind of capital needed to take breaks in between. They need their manufacturing facilities running to keep income flowing in. I think this is one of the main reasons Anbernic is creating new consoles all the time. Maybe.
I want to thank Mr TechDweeb for his cargo pants advice. I've been wearing jeans as my trouser-choice for my entire adult life. I think I wore cargo pants once when I was a teen. But we didn't have handheld devices back then (I'm both old and live in a backward and upside down part of the planet), or smart phones. Or cell phones. Or anything that I needed the other four huge pockets for after I'd put my wallet in the first one and keys in the second. Well, some lifetime habits need to be thoroughly reassessed and if necessary, overhauled. I took note of TechDweeb's life-hack, and I got me some cargo pants, and now I can stow, then later whip out my R36S in any of those places and situations where it is needed, like at the shopping checkout, pumping petrol, or even some of the long quiet stretches of driving we have out here in this very backward, rural part of the world I live in. So big thanks to him, and cargo-pants review channel coming when?
If you really love jeans, I hear lore or JNCO jeans, though I'm team cargo. My go to cargo pants, shorts are wrangler. You can get 100% cotton. Occasionally get deals. Just solid pants that don't break the bank, but aren't so cheap that they're waste. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for the the upcoming lttstore cargo pants. Those are going to be overkill, probably. Hiking variants can be great for hotter climates and quick drying. Often a lighter weight soft pant. There are the convertibles that you can zip off the bottom to be shorts. My all time favourite stopped being made ages ago. I need to take them to a tailor/seamstress willing to do that level of detail and source that soft awesome material. They had the drawing bottom fit, snaps down the sides (though not full tear away), piping details and they were very comfy (can be called parachute pants, not just cargo).
@@pureheroin9902 The beauty of save states is that you can make incremental progress, and it all adds up. I can squeeze in a full floor of Magic Sword once a week this way.
exactly your point is my point, with 53 years old, i love this devices, I had rg35xxh but the screen is to small and with my losing eye site growing biguer, I mean this device must be good for sure
Perhaps all Handhelds purchased, should arrive with a free pair of big pocketed pants... and Yeay!!! Uncle Dweeb is getting a cool retro handheld from his favorite nephew. Cool!
Great to see a different take on this, *TD.* I love my original 2.8" Miyoo Mini but my eyes can inly play certain games. 4" devices _should_ be more common. Way too many 3.5" (4:3 & 3:2) screens out there. I wonder if a 4:3 5 inch screen would be even more comfortable on the peepers?
Everyone bashes on anbernic because of all the options they release but honestly I think it's more about the different preferences people have. Another great video tech dweeb!
The Trimui smart pro comparing to this pretty similarly just being bigger makes it way more compelling these days. Because it can be had for like 60 bucks. This device being smaller and costing over twice as much makes it a pretty hard sell.
@@DQ333 The original retail was about the same sure. But do a search for Trimui Smart Pro these days and you'll find a good amount of 55 dollar listings.
Hey TechDweeb Retro games and Specialty Coffee ! I think we would get along great ! :) I'm more AeroPress than pour over, but its all good. Thanks for another fun video ! :)
It lacks heat management and won't perform as well as your arc, cardinal snapping and factory software is horrible too. This is a miss-able device, but TD glorifies it here for whatever reason. 🤷♂️
there are few youtubers i actually get excited to see have their subscriber count grow lol im glad to see yours going up, your content is great, you leave the crap of the world out ... like politics..... so thank you and keep it up, i never have to worry about being preached to in your videos unless its a nerd topic lol, i found the rg405v from you, its like the steam deck little brother i always wanted lol
I'm actually considering getting this device, primarily for PortMaster (since it's not available on the MM+) and the bigger screen. I have the RG-ARC, which is a brilliant device but it's so bulky especially considering it's not even got a single analogue stick. I love having 6 face buttons AND a full shoulder/trigger set up, along with a Sega-style D-pad. But very few games actually use the Z and C buttons so it's not a huge loss. Plus, I've not heard much in terms of actual negative feedback to these devices (aside from other reviewers complaining about how similar they all are on a hardware level). Think the Zazbiggle might be my next device. Thanks TD!
Second one english speaker retro gaming blogger I understand phonation (nose pronounce) without any issues. First one is Retrogame Corps. You two have the best video image imho. Your is "homy" and "warmer", RGC has "cooler" image. It's just my own feeling sense. Other bloggers have poor lighting and no rhytm in video sequence. I'm russian btw. Always after watching such a video I immediately want to run and buy every gadget you review. Naming theory zazzbizzle, zazzbiggle... - very cool idea, and very funny 😅
I totally understand what you’re saying about the screen. Recently picked up a rg28xx and I love it!Then I thought it would be nice to have sticks to play some games so I picked up the rg35xx h, and I love that too, but if this rg40xx h had been out at that time then I’d have got it instead. I’m a bit miffed at the saturation at the moment, especially driven by this one company? I think maybe we are nearing the end of this chipsets dominance? (maybe they are trying to use all their chip stock up?). I also think maybe we are about to have a new era, with the baseline being the rg cube’s chipset? …and when I look at the rg40xx h I can’t help but think that this is what the cube should have looked like, with this screen! How much better would it be?! I think we will see exactly that, and likely in the next 6 months or so. So as nice as this looks, I’m going to wait a while, try and make the most of what I have 😄 PS, you are good to your uncle, Dweeb 👍🏻
Man... I spent about a year watching videos before deciding to buy a Zazzbizzle. I'm mostly happy with it, but being an older dude with worsening "reading" vision makes it almost impossible to game on without using reading glasses. I realize this extra half-inch makes the screen about 30% bigger than on the Zazzbizzle, but not sure if that's even enough to make a difference for me. Still feel tempted though. Damn you, TechDweeb.
VladNerd mentioned the RG35XX H had the battery right over the the SoC and it was acting like a heatsink. @_@ Apparently in the RG40XX they moved it to address the issue. Seems like outside of the screen size that's the only big difference between the two. But... that's enough to make me consider the 40XX over the 35XX. Thank for the video Dweeb! Only 8 days old too, which means I picked a good time to start looking into a handheld! :D Also considering the Miyoo A30... Man... I have more videos to binge watch...
I'm 80% convinced to get one but the left analog stick being on the bottom is a negative for me. I know for most other people, that's the preferred location. It's amazing how such small things can have a huge impact on the enjoyment of a device.
I'm indifferent to the analog stick placement. I prefer the top, but I usually instantly forget to be annoyed once I start using it. I can make do with either location just fine.
Yeah, If I finally settle on a retro handheld, it will be 4.0 inch or larger for sure. I can't use small screen handhelds for long anymore. even back in the day, I used my gba sp with that magnifier accessory lol.
this is so true! i wanted a bigger scene for 4:3 content, so i ended up buying the trimui smart pro with the sales we've been seeing on ali. but maybe i should've waited for the price to drop on the rg40xx h :
@@Pridetoons The reason I opted for a 5.5" 16:9 device(Powkiddy X55), even though I mostly care about 4:3 content, is the OS and games folders look really nice and you can actually see the names of the games because of the wider screen, the box art/screenshots look better, the wider device is more comfortable to hold, and the size of the 4:3 content is about 4". It is also a 720p screen, so better resolution for my old eyes, although 480p 4:3 content does not integer scale. If it is 240, then it is a perfect 3x. I also thought I might want to try some of the newer systems like PSP for 16:9 content, or GBA looks pretty good, and I can go TATE mode on arcade stuff and it looks great.
I agree. Almost all the other well-known reviewers dismissed this in unison as 'more of the same'. One could say the same about them. But this screen and shape obviously makes it a better option than the 35XXH and great for anyone who didn't get sucked in by the obvious hyperbole over the 35XXH by some reviewers
I agree that bigger screen is good. I've been using an RG35XX for a while now and I love it, but I have to admit that I find I enjoy playing games designed for handhelds (Gameboy, GB Color, Advance) often a lot more than I enjoy playing PS1 RPGs. This is because I really want to see all those beautiful prerendered backgrounds in all their glory and not on such a tiny screen. It's fun but I'm definitely going to get a larger screen on my next device.
Yo dude... Right on with the uncle story! I found this wonderful SBC hobby in March '24, but found emulation in 1995 over dial-up (Nesticle and Genecyst FTW). I'm old af and yea, the eyes are going. So much so that I prefer horizontal handhelds mainly due to having bifocals. Until now, the systems with analog sticks and horizontal have been 3.5 screens, usually with slightly washed-out Anbernics. The RG353M with ArkOS is my daily driver rn, for example This bespectacled head of mine awaits the deliver of a black Zazzbiggle with bated breath. It's gonna be my PSX, N64 and DC haven, synced to the RG353M for fun. Wooooha get off my lawn

Well said T. D, Awesome video as always👍🏾
Thanks Dweeb! Just ordered one. Glad I waited.
Nice! Hope you love it!
I do love it!
Anblernic is indeed releasing WAY too many. With that said, I will be picking this one up, this is what I wish existed when my dad was asking about them.
Your content is always with some of you in it and that makes difference. As of the Zazzbiggie - same same but different but still the same .. I would pick the trimui smart pro it kind of grew on me😅
Perfect screen size for me. Will try getting this.
I've been waiting for the Zazzbiggle. I love testing my Portmaster games across multiple Handhelds.I just got REDO, Treasure Hunter Man 2, and Daydreamer: Awakened Edition playable on these Handhelds. 😊
I came to a similar conclusion. I wasn’t going to review this but then I learned we’ve all been told a lie… size really does matter! Great Review
📏
Yeah, I have all the Anbernic XX like models and bought the 28xx.
Before it shipped I thought "why am I getting this, the 35xx H is the same but better" ... ... ...
I was *WRONG!* I love the form factor. I'm currently liking it more than the XXSP even.
In a world where handheld reviewers are a dime a dozen, TechDweeb stands apart. It's because of the novelty of the dweeb persona and how he sticks to that persona while making the videos entertaining and informative. Also, the cartoon caricature, I love it!
Agreed!
That made me happy to read :)
Loved the review and the coffee interlude. Nice ASMR!
techdweeb getting into that coffee vibe videos😏
Thanks buddy, ordered mine and if it works how I like, It will be bought again as gifts
I'll cheers to that!
Welcome to the cult of cargo!
Jesus, how much petrol are you pumping where you could get a quick retro session in? 🤯🤯
@@washuai How good are these brands compared to Aliexpress roulette though?
exactly your point is my point, with 53 years old, i love this devices, I had rg35xxh but the screen is to small and with my losing eye site growing biguer, I mean this device must be good for sure
Great, I just ordered the previous model based on your recommendation not knowing about this one... Thanks! 😂
Yew!!! TechDweeb yous is always ferda fresh
Thank you for your videos
Agree. I had some issues reading text of Castlevania on small screen, and it'll be definetely better on big screen.
Perhaps all Handhelds purchased, should arrive with a free pair of big pocketed pants... and Yeay!!! Uncle Dweeb is getting a cool retro handheld from his favorite nephew. Cool!
YES! I guessed the name correctly! I love it every time we get a new device to rename
👏
Great to see a different take on this, *TD.*
I love my original 2.8" Miyoo Mini but my eyes can inly play certain games.
4" devices _should_ be more common. Way too many 3.5" (4:3 & 3:2) screens out there.
I wonder if a 4:3 5 inch screen would be even more comfortable on the peepers?
Start/select sitting down in the corner and not at the top left and right really holds this one back more than it should...
It also has a stronger chip. Quite a bargain. But aren't these priced about the same?
@@DQ333 The original retail was about the same sure. But do a search for Trimui Smart Pro these days and you'll find a good amount of 55 dollar listings.
TrimUI Smart Pro is $15-20 cheaper on a good sale (which is pretty frequent). Just got mine for ~$50 without a game card.
Loving the bew naming conventions! I am ordering this now!!!
not the handheld we asked for, but the one we *needed* :O
Hey TechDweeb
Retro games and Specialty Coffee ! I think we would get along great ! :)
I'm more AeroPress than pour over, but its all good.
Thanks for another fun video ! :)
I love my ARC-D because of the screen size (and Sega style ergonomics). This looks like a great compliment as it has the analog sticks the Arc lacks.
It lacks heat management and won't perform as well as your arc, cardinal snapping and factory software is horrible too.
This is a miss-able device, but TD glorifies it here for whatever reason. 🤷♂️
4in screens are a game changer. I'm actually looking forward to see if they do a vertical 40x x with no analog sticks
I can get behind that!
Now we need a 5 or 6 inch 4/3 device !!
I'd prefer 5:4 or 3:2.
@@torq21 👆This!
why not the full monty?
5:30 My boy is so retro, even his door handles are pixelated, complete with low res shadows
the specs are the most important part. please leave it up long enough that its not hard to pause. love the vids btw.
Get your pause finger ready!
there are few youtubers i actually get excited to see have their subscriber count grow lol im glad to see yours going up, your content is great, you leave the crap of the world out ... like politics..... so thank you and keep it up, i never have to worry about being preached to in your videos unless its a nerd topic lol, i found the rg405v from you, its like the steam deck little brother i always wanted lol
Thanks buddy! Vote for TechDweeb! I'll paint the town orange!
@@TechDweeb lol i had an orange room for like 6 years when i lived in a multi batchelor pad lol
So what I got from this review was this: We really need a Miyoo Mini with a 4" screen!
So as nice as this looks, I’m going to wait a while, try and make the most of what I have 😄
PS, you are good to your uncle, Dweeb 👍🏻
I’m counting the days for a device with this exact form factor that can play PS2/GC nicely… one day!
Awsome coffe! We need a collab with Anbernic, the Zazzbiggle in orange with black buttons and your theme 🥰.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zazzbizzle has the advantage of being more pocket friendly. And also a more solid construction. Both are great!
I love your take on this! 💚 Hmm.. you may be changing my mind on it, again.. 😅
Better buy a few extra, just to be on the safe side ;)
@@TechDweeb You make a fair point! 😅
Best funniest RetroUA-camr 👍👍👍
I'm 95% ready to buy one now!
My Zazzbizzle stopped charging today so I took that as a sign to order the Zazzbiggle 😂
this is so true! i wanted a bigger scene for 4:3 content, so i ended up buying the trimui smart pro with the sales we've been seeing on ali. but maybe i should've waited for the price to drop on the rg40xx h :
Basically Trimui Smart Pro with 4:3 aspect ratio screen.
Kinda however 16:9 isn't a Retro Resolution.
@@Pridetoons 16:9 is great for playing PSP, but if you don't care about PSP or GBA, get this instead TriMui
Yeah pretty much
@@Pridetoons The reason I opted for a 5.5" 16:9 device(Powkiddy X55), even though I mostly care about 4:3 content, is the OS and games folders look really nice and you can actually see the names of the games because of the wider screen, the box art/screenshots look better, the wider device is more comfortable to hold, and the size of the 4:3 content is about 4".
The screen looks really nice!
Tech King and another handheld
The RG353M with ArkOS is my daily driver rn, for example
This bespectacled head of mine awaits the deliver of a black Zazzbiggle with bated breath. It's gonna be my PSX, N64 and DC haven, synced to the RG353M for fun. Wooooha get off my lawn
Zazzbiggle: Goes great with your bifocals!
I hopped from RG35XX H to RG556 and damn, I don't think I could look back now due to the beautiful screen
Did eye spy a loonie @ 5:32 ? YAY TechDweeb is a Canuck! Greetings from the West Coast of Canada!!
