I am really enjoying my M12 Insider Ratchet, I was concerned because when I would hold a socket with my hand it would just slip but thats normal and the way its made, I have tested it on tight bolts and nuts and this thing drives them on and off with no issues, so it's smart and knows if you are holding it or if you are trying to tighten or losen a real tight nut or bolt. great product, i bought the SAE sockets and for those that might not know that known issue with socket and anvils coming off, you can simply fill out a form and Milwaukee will send you the new updated anvils, 1/2",3/8", 1/4" with Locking feature, no more pulling out the anvils, Milwaukee listened and they made it right by giving these updated anvils free to those of us that bought the older ones. You cant go wrong with this Insider Ratchet, I can use their sockets and all of the ones I already own, plus hex bits which i use alot also!

I like it and I have a lot of M12 and M18 tools but at $279 the cost can't be justified for a regular guy. If I was a paid mechanic then yes, but only after I had most other tools I needed. And that would be a long list of other tools. Pullers, extracters, ball joint tools, there is a long list. Having said that, if you work on cars and don't have a good cordless impact wrench nowadays, you might as well be in the Stone Age, lol. It is AMAZING how much the tool tech has changed since I started working on cars in the 80s.

279 is pretty pricy but the basic short version is ~200 and doesnt come with sockets. So now youve gotta go out and buy yourself a set.
300 bucks isint cheep but if its your first electric ratchet, and you dont have a set of low pro sockets already it seems pretty reasonable to me

At home I've done a lot of small projects that with hand tools, just took too long and I became tired fast. Specifically with a front subframe replacement which had a couple of long bolts that were painful with hand tools. Because of this, I've considered a cordless ratchet. Although, in a week I will be starting my job as an express tech which doesn't really use a ratchet that often or need an electric ratchet. I would need an impact as I'll be removing wheels a lot to do brake checks and tire rotations. Maybe an impact driver as the guy who trained me had one for certain engine splash shields when doing oil changes and opening air boxes. I've provided all this context because I've been looking into buying my first Milwaukee power tool and im unsure if it would be better for me to buy a Cordless ratchet like the insider for my personal project cars and as I learn to work more in depth on cars with school, or an impact wrench for work to be quicker and make it easier for me. what do you think?

I'm about to swap a jeep 4.0 engine on my XJ and was on the wall between the newer Dewalt 20v vs the insider. Seeing the insider in action makes me feel better about choosing it for my project. Longer neck, pass through sockets, better leverage to break bolts, more accessibility into tight areas, carry the anvils in your pocket and you can switch between 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. Last but not least, the faster it spins the less I like it! There has to be a realistic speed or you risk knurling and cross threading the bolts when fastening them. Now I know why by friend said the newer Dewalt was faster, but the Milwaukee insider was more practical.

I have one of these. It seems to have a lot of power. Maybe to much.
The one things I don't like is when you are using regular sockets with the square drive adapter, when you go to change sockets and go to pull the socket off, the adapter pulls out with the socket. Then you have to put the tool down and use both hands to get the adapter out of the socket and reinsert it into the tool and then install the new socket. I wish there was a way to better lock the adapter in place.

    • @Tom--Ace
      @Tom--Ace Місяць тому

I ordered that ryobi from the US to Australia!
I got that ryobi, an extended neck ryobi and a small low power lithium ryobi ratchet for the same price as just the insider Milwaukee sells for here in Oz - 3 tools for the price of 1, with much more controlled torque options (just pick your Max power, 75nm, 50nm, or 8nm) - ideal!
Ryobi tools aren't as compact and small as the Milwaukee, but damn do you get a lot for your money.
Is Milwaukee going to make a similar anvil design to the ryobi multi size?

Completely off topic do you think the Craftmans V-series wrenches are the same as the Mac perision torque wrenchs?

They’re from the same Taiwanese manufacturer, but they are different in design.

What's your take on the direction switch moving as it does during vibration? Do you see it as a failure point over time?

Seems like it does that because it mates with the ratchet mechanism which is flipping back and forth. Looked a little wonky to me too but it seems like a design consequence of the different way the head is driven

I have this tool, I think it's the camara speed making the selector look loose, it's definitely not.

Is there a 1/2" adapter that can be purchased?

It’s got to the point with battery tools , that they’re just making them to be making them. No one needs 8-10 cordless ratchets. Don’t get me wrong they are a time and fatigue saver, they’re great toys to have, awesome to show off and fun to play with but you can only use one at a time!

The excuse for not having the larger sockets be pass through is a joke. The tool advertises as having a max torque of 60 foot pounds. The whole thing isn't meant for torquing stuff down tight enough for concerns that those sockets wouldn't be strong enough. Every other socket you own already has a hole all the way through it.

Looks like a great tool! It's too bad the didn't make it impact too - that 60 ft-lbs of torque could jam you up good in a tight space. Milwaukee is making some impressive tools in their 12 & 18 volt lines for sure!

Stupid too use proprietary sockets, low profile could have been accomplished with the gearwrench style pass through and given the user tons of options, too use a powered ratchet or a gw flex head passthrough. I can't use this tool too tighten 1/2" drive in anchors bc the 3/4-19mm sockets aren't pass through, I can't use extensions from the pass through sets I have, gearwrench pass through has TONS of options including low pro hex sockets, torx, extensions, stupid
