Great overview. One of the things I also really like about this is how it appears to be geared up for long range. It really sets it up well to be doing lots of deliveries along the frontier with with comfortable crew habitation. The human factors considered on this ship are awesome, it means a lot to me from an immersion perspective.
That mattered a lot more if the other Star Lancers didn’t have medical beds like the tac does. The only reason the Rover is so important now is because of the medical bed on the Ursa.
@@The_0G_Chad In my opinion, other ground vehicles will be useful in the future more than now. Various No-Fly situations will cause vehicles to be advantageous to have with you.
Mr. REDJAY, the docking collar is intended to be connected to another ship, so there should be no loss of atmosphere (if the connected ship has no atmosphere, close your side first before opening the derelict ship). Docking Collar is different from an airlock, to me. Your comments are good regarding using these apertures to go straight to vacuum unless, as you did say, they have an airshield. But we know what that blue glow is when those exists....
Thank you, and glad the ship struck a cord with you! MISC deserved to have a new solid series of ships and so far it looks like these are going to be great to put to work.
Dude, great video. I feel like your breakdown was very real, practical and to the point. I liked it a lot. I picked up the Tac not realizing it wasn't also coming out at IAE, but then I went and shuffled the inventory a bit and got the Max. I'm excited for it. First Misc ship I've really really liked in a long time.
Thank you Mandalore! It was a bit of a letdown seeing TAC is coming out in 2025, but I think all the services put on board its better to have it done right them rollout with broken medical or dropseats the glitchout etc. MAX is a good ship and will treat you well, same it is going be a great MISC ship to get out there with.
Air shields are in the Prowler and the Idris Hangar, the blue energy curtain like system that holds in the air but lets players and vehicles pass through. At least in SC Lore, the system is considered expensive and not on every ship. For example, a Drake Cutlass series ship would not have three air shields to cover its ramp and side doors. But CIG may have plans to retcon that for means of ease of play and to make many ships with unstainable designs (like the Valk's hole to its second floor that would suck the air out of its cockpit and crew quarters minute the ramp or side doors were opened in space) to suddenly make a lot more sense.
Yes! A ship with actual private staterooms for the crew! And a real airlock, not just a door in the wall on the side of the ship! It's giving me _Firefly_ vibes! 🙂
Indeed, it is mighty shiny. There is a nod to Firefly when the Max comes up out of the canyon with the crewman standing there. Having long range habs for crew is great especially in era of physcialized inventories, long range multi-sesson gameplay, and even factoring in hygine without making it awkward. Agreed on the airlock/docking collar area situation this another ship with it not just being a hole to space but I still feel more should be modeled in.
the BLD better come with a pool table too. Actually would like to see them make the airhocky and pool tables function with alt game mechanics maybe add GOLF and FISHING post 1.0 i'm gonan CCU chain from a TAC to a BLD waiting for crafting to come out. same deal with the CSV-SM (if the FM is slightly more in price) For fuel just get a Seafarer variant i mean i'll be trying to get all the "utility" ships i need by 2026 IAE This year it's the Starlancer it feels the natural upgrade, i gotta be tactical about my CCU chains so everything can be basic parts and function symbiotically with as little "narative story" needed to unlock ships i will need later. still need a Crucible but till we have confirmation thats in Whitepox or anywhere close to development i won't be hitting any form of backer status yet. so far i got mining salvage refinary and the argo utilitys (mpuv & atls) and the trade ship for logistics and sales. need Repair / fuel still. now i think 2 more years is a strech because i live in a country that could well fall in to civil dispute very soon and the project along with it.
I like it. I got the carrack, so I don't see much use for it myself. I feel like the carrack is a max and the tac combined with a good medical facility to boot. But i do not remember the size for the drones on the carrack. It should be large for building bases in deep space aswell.
NGL... I sure hope the BLD doesn't suck. I feel like I'm being forced into it if I don't want to fall behind on base building. Ready to melt it the moment It isn't needed .
@JL-rj9fl Definitely not wasting my good CCUs on a ship I'll melt lol. Store credit. Don't care about the INS either. There will be other options indeed.

Thank you for this amazing video. I am building my Pc to finally join star citizen. (the music is amazingly acurate, is Celtic?) And yess, this is the ship for me, I get in love with star citizen with the first Freelancer TV spot.
Track is from BSG '04, Bear McCreary makes amazing things like a wide variety of instruments sound amazing together. Also his work is so varied you can move it around for different parts and highs and lows of emotions. You love the Lancers you will especially like the MAX. It is a shame we don't see a DUR Starlancer... but honestly Lancers should all get a pass anyway not just replaced by bigger Starlancer.
@RedJay Am so up for this ship. (my dram ship is the endeavor) but this one will be the best companion until that moment. Thank you for the video and the music!
Nice watch, yeah this is a nice ship. Perfect little trader/hauler and will carry that rp feel. I normally run in a C2 but it’s cold and has the feel of a tool. This is a home in space. I don’t think it will have decent armour as the only time they went for a armour variant was when they crossed over with Aegis on the Gemini. But that’s ok its shields are good. Saying that this makes me feel once they upgrade the starfarer with these internals the SF will shine. Plus a 290 cargo capacity and a role focused ability with fuel collection. Granted bigger crew size. MISC starting to look nice.
Starfarer and Star Gemini are sleepers if they get a pass will be amazing ships, especially with Outposts needing fuel for most early power generation methods. Heck even ground vehicles are coming with animated and fully openable fuel ports indicating they will need fuel too. MAX as well is a great ship and is already drifiting from "if" to "when" which is exciting. I really want to get a hold of the MAX and put it through its paces. Agreed armor is likely light and these ships are focusing on the strength of the S3 shield(s)
The size and speed of the construction you can build is going to be dependent on the drones used. The BLD will have larger drones than the cart, the Pioneer will have even bigger and more numerous drones.
Yes and on the drone carrier topic, I cannot help but notice the push cart, to drivable truck is a bit of a jump but from truck to BLD/Galaxy level there is a massive jump. I think we will see more drone carriers.
I picked up the StarMAX as I have a solo daily mission-runner already and wanted a more spacious, small crew daily-driver for group shenanigans. I'm not into the whole Min/Max type of game play, I wanna actually have fun and the StarMax has good cargo capacity, medium ground-vehicle storage, strong turrets and great all-around utility. I also like the over indulged crew habitation area for that feeling of actually being immerse in a long range, deep space expedition ship. For me it ticks all the boxes for a medium size 'hero ship' that can do a little bit of everything, providing lots of gameplay and fun.
Why a pool table, could have been a nav table, could have been couches, could have been a bar or something more in line with a mess or living area, pool table seems a little out of place
Remember, CIG is only saying and planning on the BLD to be doing construction THIS YEAR. That’s total subject to change and this becomes “speculative” from 2025 and later. Sound crazy? Ask a Galaxy owner.
BLD around the time base building goes online in the next 12-18 months power Chris Roberts statement at the close. The TAC is expected to release in 2025. The MAX of course is for IAE this year.
I upgraded an LTI ship to a pledge for the TAC starlancer. I saw and read all of the details. Immediately love that ship. To me its perfect for the wife and i alongside a few friends. I also upgraded a game package to the starlancer MAX for now to try it out and see what i think once it drops in the 3.24.3 PTU which they promised just idk when soon
I got the TAC. I upgraded my Andromeda to it. I'm still not sure if I did the right thing tough. The ship seems combat oriented and I don't see a lot else for it. I already have an A2, which is a formidable multi-crew gun platform, and goes without mentioning it's a nuker. So, how the Tac will perform vs an A2 in bounties will be interesting. It seems I'm biting a little more than what I can chew here. As for the Max, well, I didn't bothered. I think my Connie Taurus will require less people to run, which is ideal. The max cargo capacity on the Max is comparable to my A2 too. So I didn't see a need for it. I also have an M2, and that ship puts the Max, and most other cargo ships, to shame. So I saw no need for the Max. I still appreciate that it's available.
I think its funny everyone is buying the TAC for combat but I got one for Industrial reasons. I see it as a good ship for ROC mining. I can load the ROC in the back. It then has extra shielding and a Fury for protection against pirates. Then it has the medical beds for any injuries.
@@jmcnear6688 I typical use a Cuttie Red for that. At least till my Apolo Medivac arrives. The Apolo will take over the Cuttie Red assuming it can taker a ROC, which is yet to be seen. As for the Tac, it feels overkill for ROC mining. However, I remember Roc mining with a MSR. So ROC mining with large ships is not impossible.
@@anferFFmax Well I have really went overboard with ROC mining in the past with a C2 so this will definitely be much more manageable. I just like to go out and mine for a long time and not have to worry about going back to civilization for anything I need.
no worries, i love my A2 as well... nearly does it all. i got TAC not specifically for combat but "combat capable" i believe TAC will be DD for a bit, it just makes a nice Serenity Firefly kind of home but with guns lolol. imma multi-role the CRAP outta this. keeping A2 ofc... but playing with ground vehicles now to see what works. lol. gotta keep yer options open.
@MikBer-f3t The Tac is gonna be ideal for bunker missions, too, since it got the firepower to take out turrets, and in case you get owned, it got a medbed. The A2 could do the same with a Nursa inside. It's just that the Tac is a tad smaller, so it should be cheaper to maintain.
I traded my Taurus for the Max. I think it will be a great ship. The one thing I think you got wrong in your video is that the engineering room is behind the habs, not on the cargo floor. Otherwise great vid. My hope is that they will do the same thing to the Connie series, can you imagine a double decker Connie thats twice the size of the current models?
My daily driver is the Phoenix Emerald, so MAX in particular has caught my eye as a fun alternative when I want a utility ship of this size. Yes a few folks pointed out the engineering/cargo mixup thanks.
Do you think the TAC will be able to house an Ursa? :) The only thing making me want a MAX instead, is the idea of being able to take a Nursa everywhere. If the TAC can fit one, I'd have far less to worry about haha
I just think 8 drop pods // a med bay vs 128 SCU of cargo for a "Efficient space" is a stretch? what are your guys thoughts is that a good comparison? -- I know the hangar replaces the pretty double beds // fancy toilets but! A friendly ship is a fun ship, the TAC loses that friendliness for tactical. -- for reference I have a TAC cause I'm going to build my own base with the pioneer. -- my "home" is gonna be a space station :3
Pioneers are offered at IAE each year, with this year's IAE starting Nov 22, on Consolidated Outland Day usually as a limited wave ship, but some have speculated due to importance of Pioneer and desirability it will be regular sale ship this year. Either way it will be for sale and have 10 year insurance. If it is not limited may also be able to CCU to it. As for BLD, earliest will likely me IAE as well but that is speculative by me.
Hard choice thinking of upgrading to the max do i upgrade my freelancer mis or my constellation andromeda. leaning heavy on the constellation as i like the mis as a gunship. EDIT: anyone know if a nova tank can fit in the max?
I don't think Nova will fit, but I will be sure to test that with a Nova or Storm (I believe width of ramp opening will be the reason it won't) when we get the MAX variant in next few weeks.
BLD should be more expensive if they are coming with a whole rack of large drones... but we just don't know yet nor do we know cost of these drones. BLD also is not fully fleshed out, there is one room I am curious about.
Can i use the bar? No. Can i use a pool table? No? And why would i even want to in a game about spacetravel and spaceships. I would rather play pool and take a drink irl while i whait for Quantum to be done. The only useful parts about any ship is the gameplay it actually offers, hence i dont think the MAX offers much other than small time cargo deliveries. Compaired to other ships of its same size, the max has little to offer for me.
I will be sure to test the pool table and bar and show in testing video if they work, its part of my process to show good and bad of things as SC project progresses. While amenities are not top tier factor for all backers, do consider there is a balance point - no one will crew a Mole because that ship is a cramped solo corridor ship where you never see your friends, whearas Reclaimer its easy to get 1-2 friends to jump in and make some UEC having fun tearing ships apart together in a giant haunted ship... its worlds different the two
Carrack has a ton of potential, but is also over double the cost of a Starlancer Max and still has to sort out it cargo modules. Sure when Carrack shows its modularity off and reworked cargo it will be a great choice for many by to me Starlancer MAX still fills an all arounder hauler/utility role for many.
overall, not a fan of this ship, id have rather seen they take the hull-c or d and converted that to a multicrew exploration ship. this to me looks like a fat carrak. completly agree about the airshield/airlock. this is one of my largest issues with the zeus. the airlock is not functional without decompressing a large portion of the ship.
C2 is a unique breed of ship in that it enjoys roll-on, roll-off ramped cargo/vehicle capability. C2 sacrifices crew space and some services you will find on the MAX for the huge cargohold underneath the crew deck. Part of rhe advantages of the MAX is the long range mindset even in the independent habs for each crew member as opposed to the shared habs on C2 and communal locker area for each crew storage. MAX also has much easier to unload cargo system for non-vehicles. It comes down to your Playstyle, large ground vehicle usage, and type of cargo which is the better fit.
The only version missing is an exploration variant. Freelancer Max: Starlancer Max. Freelancer Mis: Starlancer Tac. Freelancer Dur: Starlancer ????? Freelancer ???: Starlancer BLD 😂😂
Corsair is more for combat with how its weapons loadout is setup, MAX is for everything else and happens to have an array of weapons you would expect on the larger ship.
I just can't get excited about new ships anymore, while we STILL don't have a game to fly them in... During whole of CitCon, my game didn't even START, never mind run smoothly...
It has to do with the codes for server meshing being in a build without server meshing. All for 4.0, They've been hotfixing and the PTU is running a little better. But I understand your concerns.
That's a good safety tip! But seriously, many suits you will not be able to sit in pilot/co-pilot chairs in during near future, for many storing their suit and going upstairs in work clothes may be an option, but then coming back downstairs to the suit lockers with airlock open could be problematic to say the least
For me is so sad to see new models being introduced without fixing the flaws and bad design of previous ships from the same manufacturer, like the Prospector having no accessable components, Freelancers without a proper layout rework, reliants barely working, Expanse in backlock for idk how many years.... Also dumping the Galaxy as the large base builder to put the BLD in that role for the start of the mechanics. I know, it will come later... bla bla bla. I Also know the excuse is those Starlancers are the assets to be used in the Odyssey.... regardless is such a bad view from owners of previous MISC models left in the dust.

One of the features that I love about the Starlancer MAX is that it can carry a Rover class vehicle without reducing its cargo carrying capacity.

I missed out on getting a Pioneer, so I'll settle for one of these.
@@RedJay I hope you're right! I wanna nab one if I can!
This. Without anybody shooting at me or having to shoot anyone else. Just wanna trade.
A good lighter!
So say we all
Hard choice thinking of upgrading to the max do i upgrade my freelancer mis or my constellation andromeda. leaning heavy on the constellation as i like the mis as a gunship. EDIT: anyone know if a nova tank can fit in the max?
I don't think Nova will fit, but I will be sure to test that with a Nova or Storm (I believe width of ramp opening will be the reason it won't) when we get the MAX variant in next few weeks.
Do we know if the Starlancer MAX and TAC can be upgraded to the BLD? Via ccu...
BLD should be more expensive if they are coming with a whole rack of large drones... but we just don't know yet nor do we know cost of these drones. BLD also is not fully fleshed out, there is one room I am curious about.
Freelancer Super Max)
Can i use the bar? No. Can i use a pool table? No? And why would i even want to in a game about spacetravel and spaceships. I would rather play pool and take a drink irl while i whait for Quantum to be done. The only useful parts about any ship is the gameplay it actually offers, hence i dont think the MAX offers much other than small time cargo deliveries. Compaired to other ships of its same size, the max has little to offer for me.
I will be sure to test the pool table and bar and show in testing video if they work, its part of my process to show good and bad of things as SC project progresses. While amenities are not top tier factor for all backers, do consider there is a balance point - no one will crew a Mole because that ship is a cramped solo corridor ship where you never see your friends, whearas Reclaimer its easy to get 1-2 friends to jump in and make some UEC having fun tearing ships apart together in a giant haunted ship... its worlds different the two
Behold that for which 3 ships were nerfed (or attempted nerfed).
well if you have a carrack you dont need a starlancer, max, nor the tac. if you are sitting on a redeemer you might consider the tac ...
I want to try the Starlancer Max but I can't help but think it's an inferior ship compared to say a C2.
Freelancer ???: Starlancer BLD
😂😂
Corsair or MAX?
Corsair is more for combat with how its weapons loadout is setup, MAX is for everything else and happens to have an array of weapons you would expect on the larger ship.
I just can't get excited about new ships anymore, while we STILL don't have a game to fly them in...
During whole of CitCon, my game didn't even START, never mind run smoothly...
It has to do with the codes for server meshing being in a build without server meshing. All for 4.0, They've been hotfixing and the PTU is running a little better. But I understand your concerns.
@callsigngrimdoll is the PTU usually better to run than the live version?
@@tman41291 This is really a bug fix and AIE build currently. But yes it seems like it is running a little better.
3,2,1, nerf!
Just dont open the airlock while you are naked?
