I don't have any issues with the 'letter-box' view for the cockpit... it's not the shape of the screen, it's the distance the pilot sit from the screen that makes a difference. The Freelancer is HORRIBLE to fly because you sit so far back from the screen and the dashboard is just so deep. However, the C2 also has a letterbox view, but because you sit relatively close to the screen, it's not an issue and no one complains. So, I'm sure the devs are aware of this and I'm sure you sit much closer to the screen as well as the screen on the Starlancer being proportionally much taller so that as the pilot, you get a much greater field of view.
I hated that about my Freelancer MAX. I always felt like I was trying to fly the ship looking through an armor slit with a full size dining table in front of me. Upgrading to a Zeus was a massive relief for actually being able to see when I'm flying.
honestly i enjoy the jumbojet view in both ships., but im a masochist so maybe that does not count :D EDIT: also im not a avid PVP player so maybe thats it too
I fly my Freelancer Max for almost a year as my daily doing exploration, bunkers, vrlt and of course cargo runs. I even entered a cave with it. Never had an issue with the visibility. I really like this type of view because it gives me a sense of security compared to those glass fish tank-like canopy which, by the way, are awesome on specialized ships like mining ships. But a cargo ship doesn't need that and I think once you flew this enough time you will become aware of its size. I can't wait to try out the Starlancer Max and I see it as my potential new daily ship.
@@FelixVatamanu A very fair point of view... at the end of the day, it's all personally preferences and if you love the Freelancer, no one can tell you you're wrong. What's great about this game is that there's a different flavour of ship for everyone out there👍
The target audience are the gamers who like the roll play aspect of owning a ship not the bare-bones utilitarian aspect of everything in the ship. My number one complaint of almost all SC ships is they don't feel like something you would want to live in while traveling the stars. To me this ship checked all the boxes. It has almost the exact same amount of dedicated cargo as the Zeus CL but it's easy to access not a pain. It also has a secondary cargo/vehicle bay that is the same size as the Corsair's and will hold a Rover or the Argo CSV-SM and the upcoming FM so you can use this ship as a midsize base builder opening up that entire game play loop when it comes online. I personally can't stand the bunk sleeping arrangement so those private rooms are long overdue and welcomed from my perspective and definitely not a waist of space as well as the crew lounge/mess hall area. Finally a crew lounge with enough room of add some furniture and make it feel like a home not a submarine. It's has multi boarding and egress points, an Armory, windows a good weapons load-out for a cargo hauler. This ship rocks and is the closet ship you can get in the verse to having your own Firefly less the shuttles. I was waiting to trade a smaller ship with LTI I had for the Zeus CL and did then this came the following day and immediately traded my Zeus for it and will have zero regrets.
I get Firefly vibes from the interior too! Keep in mind the rear hold can take an additional 96 scu AND vehicles. The cargo grid is on the sides based on the placement of the caution lines. It’s believed to stack 3 high.
There's different levels of letterbox. I don't mind the Freelancer that much. It's not great, but it's still functional. The Hull C is pretty restrictive, but it also doesn't need a great view for what it does. The Starfarer, I think, is just downright uncomfortable because the seats are too far back from the window. It was CIG's first real attempt at a big ship design and it shows.
Same. A lot of people hate them, but I think they all share that cozy retro starshipey looks that I find extremely attractive (except for Starfarer, it's just bad). I will sure grab a Starlancer and absolutely can't wait for the Odyssey.
@@pilsatortubebig facts love how it looks like a mini Oddessey and the silhouette is just very intelligent and sleek almost comforting yet professional all at the same time!
I actually quite like the layout of the max, I dont feel like every ship has to be the absolute best for everything, or have its space utilized to the best possible efficiency. I flew connie for ages and honestly its a nice ship but it just feels kind of boring, the lack of a tractor beam in the starlancer doesn't really seem like all that big of a deal
I get the concerns about the large social areas/bedrooms as you could fit a good chunk more cargo. But this is intended as a deep space ship, required for long journeys and having that bit more social space for the crew would be beneficial. Rather than cramped quarters.
I like the social area as well. If I designed the interior I would have kept one of the big living quarters for the Captain, and replaced the second one on the same side with a small infirmary with 1 tier 3 med bed. On the opposite side I would have merged the two crew rooms I to a shared space for 3 , something like the Zeus ES/CL.
@@JL-rj9fl definitely agree with that and as a deep space ship it absolutely should have had a med bay. Almost annoying it doesn't but at least you can fit a Nursa at the compromise of cargo if you really thing you'll need one
I immediately bought a Starlancer Max right after the panel (using store credit). The Freelancer was my first "big" ship when I joined & it was the ship that got me hooked. The Max was my cargo ship for a looong time. The freelancer series is definitely dated by today's standards & I'm excited to see what it's big sibling can do!
I know it's wasted space at the moment but I do like the idea of comfortable quarters for the crew. And since it looks like it's in the same space as the hangar Bay on the Tac, they probably felt they had to fill the space with something 'good' and not just have it be dead space on this variant. Personally I could have done with a bit smaller rooms if they could have fit a small medbed in there! I don't think any ship of this size should be lacking medical facilities.
@@matthewbrady5274 unfortunately we all know they're going to take away the respawn of the Nursa at some point. If they weren't, they wouldn't still have different tiers of med beds.
@@MaticTheProto I didn't technically say respawn ability. Said 'medical'. 😉 While there is no difference at the moment, really, I doubt it will stay that way forever.
My first ship was the Freelancer, and it’s by and far a decision I never regretted. This seems like an incredible upgrade to it, and makes me very hopeful that the Freelancer lineup will get the tune-up and revamp they deeply deserve sometime in the future!
I picked up the tac purely because of the med beds. I normally run around in a c2 for ground based bounties. Has great shields decent guns and just enough turn rate for flying bounties. Downside it takes to long to get back into the pilot seat if you're out running around and someone starts firing at the ship. cargo i don't normally grab to much unless i come across a wreck filled with valuable stuff. The tac would bring equal firepower and shields, having two me beds instead of bringing a nursa or c8x. I think it'll really begin to shine once base building starts for ground assaults. Being one of the better drop ships.
To me, the TAC specifically is very compelling as a general purpose combat ship for group play. It seems extremely flexible, being competent at throwing its weight around in space while offering a medical bed and sufficient storage for loot and ground vehicles to make it a great FPS focused ship too, all in a footprint smaller than something like a Polaris. It doesn't have the sheer firepower of something like my Perseus, but its so much more versatile. If you've got five or so friends and combat of all variety is your jam, I can really see the TAC being a home run.
Don't forget it also has 8 jump seats for even more friends. And it still has 96scu of cargo. The Tac might become my new daily once it's out. It's big, but I'm not convinced that's going to bother me.
I'm bummed that the price is identical to the Redeemer but understand why - after all the dev-hate and recent nerfing of the Redeemer, I'd have CCU'd it immediately to the TAC if there'd been even a $5 price difference. Now, because my 'Deemer has LTI already, I'll wait until the TAC is flyable and has a price bump then I'll CCU .... and I love my 'Deemer and never thought I'd trade it out, but the Starlancer TAC is just too damn appealing.
I picked it, I specialize in logistics and I'd have fun flying the ship, I think it'll be good to be able to still have cargo and the nura all in the same place. Unlike the Taurus which seem to barely fit the ursa with wise, you'd still make money but not enough. With the additional 128 scu of cargo on the SL Max, you'd come out on top when it comes to holding cargo, granted, no on board tractor beam like the Taurus.
@@Bell_the_Cat I agree, and if we were to take space tech's idea and have more cargo space in the other areas, then there wouldn't be a need to create the cargo starlancer because it would be the same as the freelancer max. But, we'll have to see how other's like or dislike the ship, everyone is going to have their own thoughts on the ship.
Yeah, the Starlancer was an easy upgrade for me. I started playing SC with a Freelancer and this just feels like a bigger and better version of that. Now just give me a Starlancer DUR and I'll never need any other ship again xD
@@durtyred86 The Starlancer is quite a bit smaller than the Odyssey. If you park the Starlancer MAX nose to tail with the Mercury Star Runner you'll be around the same total length as the 140m long Odyssey. An exploration based Starlancer would be a middle step in between the Freelancer DUR and the Odyssey.
I do love my FL MAX and after I had CCU'd my MAX to the Taurus, I ended up getting another MAX to have. For me, the Starlancer is a nice progression from the Freelancer (not a replacement). So I've decided to CCU my Taurus to the Starlancer MAX.
@@RobynLeSueur But...why though? Why would your in-game character need a space house? How many in-game minutes would you justify to having (and allegedly taking care of) a space house?
@@Humpdurious as far as i'm aware they aligned the redeemer with what it should be? Making it more manoeuvrable, more able to tackle fighters and not just sit and take a Hammerhead to the face.
@@VersesX33 Yeah everyone complaining about the weapons nerf conveniently forgets the agility buff it got at the same time. It's supposed to be a heavy fighter, not a flying tank.
Seems like the Corsair wouldn't compare well, as it shines as a expedition ship, especially with the recent changes to the Corsair. Strongly agree with Andromeda comparison!
That's an interesting couple to compare. I've got a constellation Andromeda and I'm considering ccuing it to the tac, but that lost of agility really has me questioning if it's worth it. You can have a tier 3 med bed in a Connie if you load a nursa, the Connie has a snub fighter too. But having that extra space onboard is always nice.
This ship feels like the freelancer I have always wanted. It has decent cargo, living quarters, vehicle space, seperate rooms and loads of versitility. Its pretty much everything I have wanted in a ship personally. It is fairly large and that may pose a problem but every ship in the C1/Zeus/cutty black class of ships I have flown and bought just felt a tiny bit underwhelming or claustrophobic (especially the Zeus). While I loved the Zeus, I think this ship fits the needs of what I'm looking for way more. I am super excited to see this in game.
Tbh I felt kinda underwhelmed with the Zeus. The cargo grid layout, cockpit noise, 2 pilot weps, and cramped living quarters made it hard for me to recommend to fly with a friend. Aside from how good the Zeus looks I would rather fly in a starlancer with a buddy where it has almost everything you want for a group to have a good time.
I bought a CCU for the MAX after thinking on it a day or two. Since I started playing a year ago, I've constantly been on the look out for a ship that could feel like a home and is able to do a bit of any job I need to get done. I feel like the MAX will fulfill that for me. I was going to wait for IAE to see if the Taurus got a discount at all, but my only ship close to the price is a Firebird, so unless it would only get $10 off, that probably wasn't gonna happen. Then CitizenCon revealed the Starlancer. I like form and function out of my ships. My Firebird used to be a C1 because I really like the look of Crusader ships, and, at first, it kinda filled that "home" function for me, though it was more of a studio apartment compared to the MAX's flying house. Even if something may not be the best at everything, if I like how it looks and what it has, I'd rather get that over a ship that's slightly more functional but isn't nearly as aesthetically pleasing.
It's fairly obvious why they nerfed the Corsair and Redeemer before revealing the Starlancers. I firmly believe the Starlancer will see nerfs when CIG is ready to reveal their next large ship to sell, and I'm not sure this cycle is going to end... So anyway I bought both variants.
Yep. SC powercreep is real. Every new ship has to be better than all those before it. It's pretty shitty tbh but maybe they balance everything for 1.0....
it's their long established tactic to make them look good for a while to get morons to spend the cost of several other games to buy a digital ship, then nerf it for the newer ones to look better.
I got the 5 bucks terrapin to MAX ccu just in case npc crew will be a thing one day. Would not make a major investment on it yet. The ship seems set up to work well with npc crew. The corridors are wide, quarters are easily accessible and engineering is all in one spot. Plus all the areas where you would need crew are on one level. No need for NPC to ride elevators. If you unload cargo in a dangerous place they can man the turrets while you rush back to the flight deck to make an escape attempt. However, if you do contract work at org bases for example the amount of risk will be minimal anyway, since the bases are heavily defended. If NPC crew never makes it that upgrade just becomes a paint for my E1.
Fully agreed! I just spent money on this for the first time since 2015. Exactly what I needed for my small org and even solo play with NPC help in the turrets.
I bought a Max the secnd I saw it. I have been a Connie lover since day 1 (I havee the Rear Admiral game package from 2013) but the max just screams Connie 2.0 I have since bought all the paints, a CCU to a TAC and another CCU from my connie to a Max. I haven't been this hyped for a ship for a long time and I could see it not only being my daily driver, but my only driver. My only reques would be a Star Lancer race transporter. keep the fury hangar, move the Max's hotel accomodation downstairs and add a coupl of Pulse bays. A nice ship to rock up to race events with.
TAC seems to be perfect ship to fight in incoming big worm boss battles. Respawn, cargo big enoght to take ground vechicles + extra weapons that can target Groud target. I do not see better ship them this to do that job now.
And considering killing these creatures may be important for crafting I agree unless the ship is very easy for worm to spit rocks at you and take the ship down
The TAC is a bit of everything. - Its a mid range cargo - Its a micro carrier - Its a low end dropship - Its a pretty good gunship - Its a low range medical ship - Its non of the above. The TAC is a multi-role ship on steroids. It can do most things, but not to well. 8 troops is not realy comparable with the Valkyries 24, the med-bay cant compare with an Apollo, It cant carry a light fighter like the Polaris or Oddesy , It cant haul as much cargo as a Caterpillar, and its to fat, slow and has to many guns aimed downwards to compete against a redeemer (yes even post nerf). Its the ultimate jack of all trades, master of none.
Until now you are the only one I know off mentioning the sand worm with the tac yes that was my idea as well and I am so looking forward to it great vid man
I think the major advantage the MAX has over its competitors is the dimensions of its cargo grids. All of grids appear to be 2 wide and 2 high, allowing players to load common crate sizes with ease without having to play too much jenga. Ships like the Taurus, with their uneven cargo dimensions, are heavily limited by their grids when trying to run hauling missions as they require certain combinations of crate sizes to fit their full capacity- but when missions give you, say, 120 SCU entirely in 8 SCU crates, the Taurus is out of luck as its grid can't hold that one extra crate.
I considered the prowler while writing up this video, but I just cannot fathom a world in which it's worth it's asking price. It's just insane how you can get a reclaimer for less! Or even a 600i or an Ironclad for more 😬
16:51 uhm, the Valkyrie-Class has TWENTY drop seats and its egress points are covered by two gatlings and two laser weapons, while the rear cargo hold can hold either an (N)Ursa, four cyclones and or three Fury-Class Snub Fighters. the Valkyrie-Class is and always will be the premiere dropship and the Starlancer TAC can only dream of being close to that. Its a nice all rounder though :)
IMO the Starlancer MAX could be MISC answer to the Connie Phoenix, Just not as fancy. It could give you the option of touring or incognito VIP transport. Could be a food truck ...
You are way better at the description here I love it. I agree about all of the wasted space and it was my first thought too. I do think though that the idea is that this will be for super long journeys and RP so its more for that crowd. I would have loved a variant that was more focused on just cargo though and this be more of an ES variant.
My plan with my Max is to upgrade it to the builder when it release. Since i already got a Odyssey. That will scout ahead for a good location to settle down. Then grab the builder
Dude this guide is great! I’ve been watching some videos on the ships. This one was concise and brought up great thinking points! Might pick up a Tac upgrade from a vanguard harb since I’m not using it much. Going to hold out and check out the max in at IAE in a month first. Subbing and looking forward to more 💯
Crazy how they can add the exact same function to a new ship though. Especially with physical cargo now, there really is no excuse to continue ignoring the Carrack.
@@OmnipotentJC the excuse would be that the Carrack is missing more than retractable cargo bays: modules (check), drones (not yet), hologlobe (not yet), power grid (maybe?)
Well I actually committed before checking it out, I upgraded from my Taurus lol the biggest draw back for me in the Taurus was not being able to bed log and the interior was pretty much empty. But I think the Taurus exterior looks a lot better and the view in the flight deck was pretty good looking forward to seeing what I think of this ship
Taurus can only reasonably use about 100scu due to its cargo grid layout thats too short for 2 32scu boxes long. (14 8scu boxes can fit, then you have to use 2scu and 4scu to fill the rest of the space) It is an old ship that was not made with the current cargo system in mind.
@@Darky0.204 yes there is relative poorness. You can say anyone who has time and a PC capable of running Star Citizen isn't probably eating instant ramen every night and wondering if they can pay their power bill. 😉
3 big ships (so far revealed w/ probably more small ones) right after the atlas & zues just launched is absolutely amazing for an IAE, im really excited to see their future output of ships
These are a cool ship but my Pioneer being in production in the next few weeks with a delivery date of next year fills the purpose of my fleet setup. Also, given the info they gave us I'd tend to think the BLD will be ready before the TAC since they want those large drones for basebuilding. They said the Pioneer will release within a year but won't be at the launch of basebuilding and crafting which means they plan on releasing it early to mid next year and hence would need the BLD at launch with the Pioneer following later next year. Either way, this is my main loop and very excited for all of it! God bless!
I think that the star lancer would be really good also as an exploration vessel, I hope they will do in the future an exploration variant with less luxurious habitation areas and more functionalities such as a scanning station
I already melted my Reclaimer and my Taurus. Picked up both Starlancers. I'll probably melt something later to pick up the BLD once it's available. Love at first sight.
Didn't even have to think about it. They hadn't even finished the presentation and I had my hangar open in another tab. Never thought I'd EVER get rid of my Taurus.
I'm personally someone who's big on immersion and amenities. I dig the Corsair because all the crew have their own rooms. Theoretically, the 600i rework coming in, like, 2029 or something also will. So seeing that large common area and comfortable rooms on the Max makes me happy. I see the Max as a solid long range multirole ship for a crew of four. Beautiful engine room for the engineer, good turrets for the gunners (instead of the piddly S2s on the Corsair), and a kind of partitioned cargo area that's easy to load while still having plenty of room for land vehicles. Honestly, I think she's too good for the price. I picked up a 5 dollar warbond for it in case CIG realizes they should charge more. My only concern is that a single S3 shield for her size makes her feel a bit fragile. I'm very very curious to see what her hull/armor will look like.
I love the mess hall and the rooms and so do my friends. It's not just for players who run cargo. Some of us like to role play and make our ship our home.
Fingers crossed we get a Starlancer DUR. That would be an instant buy. (Also the idea of a Starlancer MIS would be hilarious.) The Max is still inferior to the Cat and the Tac is another FPS org ship so I have no interest.
Great overview Space! I think the Taurus remains the most versatile all-rounder with its ability to handle zero-g cargo work better. That being said, that isn't going to stop me from picking up a MAX. I was looking for a long range cargo hauler and based on the description (and it's living amenities) this ship should do just that.
The largest MISC ship with the letterbox, I think you will find is the Starfarer / Gemini. It's a characteristic / design element of MISC - it's just part of "MISC"
My first pledge back in 2013 was the Freelancer. So I had no defense against the Starlancer Max. It's already in my hangar. 😭 And at $225 it seems good value for what you're getting. It's less than my MSR! Or roughly the same price as the currently completely useless Terrapin!
Been looking for a ship that I can kind of solo, has pilot controlled guns, a medbay and can fit an Ursa so this pretty much ticks all the boxes. Not a massive fan of Misc but I'll take it. Ideally I wanted to use it for exploration e.g finding good spots for base building, monster hunting and also then defending my org's base if needed so kinda hoping this gets a large scanner/ radar upgrade in future then it really would be perfect
Picked up a Lancer Max with a CCu to a TAC. To make the best of the TAC's use of strengths and obvious metrics for ground based warfare. I'm reserving the upgrade until a better understanding of air to ground based avionics and countermeasure systems that I feel need to be fleshed out. To me, this should be an obvious choice for a Co-Pilot to Pilot combat meaningful experience. Cheers~ Mike
The Max is the best varient imo. I was really tempted to buy it but I recently bought the ironclad, so I have to chill for a while. I did pick up the csv-sm and will get the csv-fm when that comes out. I'm really looking forward to IAE to see what else is coming out.
grabbed a ccu for both, the base building variant seems interesting and cheap alternative that might even be able to fit small jump point since its not very wide or super tall.might be good to send a head of pioneers and galaxy for base building or just securing a landing spot before others
I may pick up the BLD in game. Base building could be an interesting side gig but I don’t see myself spending RL money on a ship that will not be focused on my main career. That being said, I am extremely excited for the prospect of base building and I hope it will be more complex than starfields system
The Starlancer Max almost feels like it is meant to be a hero ship, some set for a story to be told in. I still like it and I'm going to get one once you can get one in game. I like MISC shiny ships, and could really use a medium cargo ship like this.
real life comparison to the double beds in the ship. my friend who is lifer cruiseship worker, there are limited double beds in cruise ships and when a cabbin comes avalible with one its very much taken by the crew do to the fact its much more comfortable than the solo ones.
The Connie series is my absolute favorite, and the Taurus is the only one I do not have. I I decided i would complete my Connie collection and buy a Taurus during IAE, but I do not have a Misc ship and have been waiting for a proper Connie competitor, so I'm probably going to buy the cargo Starlancer at IAE, and hold off on completing my Connie collection. I just want variety. Curious, are there only 2 Starlancers? I figured 3 variants would be released? Is there an explorer coming? I have backed SC since it started, and seen a lot of SC UA-camrs come and go, and get genuinely say this video was done very well! You spoke with intent and clearly, and gave great, necessary information, with no fluff. Excellent video quality! Liked and i'll check out more of your videos
There are 2 variants available for purchase, with one planned to release with base building. I would personally love to see an exploration variant! Thank you for the kind words, they do mean a lot!
6:30 So about that... I'm almost certain the Fury Hangar on the TAC is right where the Crew Quarters are on the MAX, both being surrounded by that donut hallway. The crew quarters are probably the compromise here. The area being designed around the hangar on the TAC and then the crew quarters being designed after to fill that square on the MAX.
I wonder about gameplay for NPC crew and if having private bunk, downtime area, and a galley would provide any additional benefits. Like can you hire a cook to prepare meals so you are not wasting storage space on food items? Will they perform better if they have those spaces? They also said we would have transport missions to bring NPCs from 1 location to another and you could use the "5 star hotel" accommodations to earn more on those missions. And I think you can get 2 or 3 Ursa's or a Nova tank in the back area. It seems like a good jack-of-all trades ship that in the future would be ideal for stacking missions together as I expect the fuel tanks to be huge. You get 2 or 3 friends, grab a couple cargo missions, a ground assault mission, NPC survey mission, all in the same system like Nyx. Take 1 ship and 1 crew a do them all at the same time.
The Hercules Starlifter and Hull C are both larger than the starlancer. Both have the "letterbox" viewport. I've been flying both in anticipation of the SL Max.
Honestly I love the starlancer lineup. I feel like they all play a good role. Yea I kinda wished the would’ve made a small hanger on the max so we could put a tractor ship in it. But even then it still might fit in the back. It’ll be a little tight. Still I do plan to get a tac. It feels to good of a ship to pass up on. 96 scu med beds 8 jump seats furry fighter and plenty of fight power to help with the fight. It would be the perfect bunker ship or support ship in a small fleet for bounty hunting. Get two of the tac and one pursue and bam 💥.
I hope we get don't have to wait ages for the "room decoration system" for ships. Would be nice so make lots of these living room areas in ships a bit more utilitarian.
I'm upgrading my C1 to the starlancer max for sure. I plan to have a solid crew and do cargo hauling and exploration...even some bunkers and stuff like that. The only think I dislike is the pool table.
I do love the Max, i think it fits all my needs for my game style, only one thing that i think it could be better, the small hanger should be the same on all startlancers, we dont need that stupid crew space, we could land MPUV on it or a fury, and that would make this ship reallyyyyyy great.
I'm skeptical that the Tac's two size five turrets will fire forward. Going by the location I think they are more broadside and/or for providing ground cover for the troops you drop out. This seems like a squad-size drop ship which provides combined arms capability. We get ground combat in the form of 8 troops with space for ground vehicles and two sources of air support from a Fury fighter and the Tac it's self for overwatch and artillery. On top of that we have 2 med beds to heal/stabilized casualties after the fight.
If this ship had come out or been previewed before the galaxy, I'd likely have gotten one. At the moment I'm going to wait on the galaxy to drop, and see what it can do for base building and cargo. I know it hauls more cargo, but how it works with the modules will be the most interesting.
My only complaint of the max and tac are the limited firing arcs of the turrets. Minor nitpick is that it just looks like a burley freelancer and I'd have liked something more unique but, I'm ok with the freelancer too so it's not a deal breaker :)
Side access cargo needs to be done a lot more in SC, granted in smaller rather than larger ships. I much prefer this access to one end or another. Same goes for actual access doors to the ship.
I upgraded my freelancer max to starlancer max. I just wish there was a medical bed in freelancer max. I can park the Ursa Medivac in it and solve that problem. Everything else looks great. I can't wait for it to be added to the game.
Which one are you looking forward to the most?

This ship rocks and is the closet ship you can get in the verse to having your own Firefly less the shuttles. I was waiting to trade a smaller ship with LTI I had for the Zeus CL and did then this came the following day and immediately traded my Zeus for it and will have zero regrets.
I get Firefly vibes from the interior too! Keep in mind the rear hold can take an additional 96 scu AND vehicles. The cargo grid is on the sides based on the placement of the caution lines. It’s believed to stack 3 high.
Yea I’m gonna have fun hailing from pyro to Stanton
Well the MAX starlancer actually has nearly double the cargo volume of the CL, sitting just above connie taurus.
It has around 224 SCU or something like that total
This guy gets it!
i love MISC ships, even the "letterbox" cockpit. I love this entire line of vessels and cant wait to fly them.
Best looking ships in the game!
Yeah the letterbox design are fine. These arent combat ships. They are combat ships only when attacked
This gives me a strong Firefly Serenity vibe.

@@TheThorJunki Yeah, I'm glad we can get a Nursa in there with what seems like room to spare for other cargo/loaders.
Well the good news is a nursa sits nice in the rear bay. Also I agree, ships feeling homey is really important to me, especially for non combat ships.
@@matthewbrady5274 unfortunately we all know they're going to take away the respawn of the Nursa at some point. If they weren't, they wouldn't still have different tiers of med beds.
@@Dracounguisyeah, ships shouldn’t really be respawn facilities

My first ship was the Freelancer, and it’s by and far a decision I never regretted. This seems like an incredible upgrade to it, and makes me very hopeful that the Freelancer lineup will get the tune-up and revamp they deeply deserve sometime in the future!
I bought my Max just now and now that I know there are double beds, my husband and will definitely be bunkmates.
Only the tac has medbeds
@@power4giwrgos I said double beds not med-beds. Look at the Max habs. Each room has is a private suite.
@@power4giwrgos learn to read 😂😂😂
@@Gazbeard have you flown the updated Redeemer yet? It's still a beast. Probably more so. Yeah, the guns got nerfed, but it's a lot more nimble now.
Agreed. FWIW, I hardly ever touch the ship tractors - I just find them too problematic. An ATLS in the rear hold on this girl and you'll be sorted.
I really think the Starlancer could fit a "DUR" variant if they wanted to. Maybe a scanning suite down in the belly!
@@Space-Tech The hangar/hotel area could be the fuel refinery area.
Wouldn't the "Starlancer Dur" just be the Misc Odyssey?? 🤔
@@durtyred86 The Starlancer is quite a bit smaller than the Odyssey. My only question is where does the galaxy fit in base building? In citizencon last year they said themselves it was for large buildings.
I think this is the one for me. Firefly/cowboy Bebop. Home in the skies.
I do love my FL MAX and after I had CCU'd my MAX to the Taurus, I ended up getting another MAX to have. For me, the Starlancer is a nice progression from the Freelancer (not a replacement). So I've decided to CCU my Taurus to the Starlancer MAX.
This. It’s like going from the Cutlass to the Corsair!

I’m really surprised you didn’t compare the TAC against the Andromeda and Corsair?
Seems like the Corsair wouldn't compare well, as it shines as a expedition ship, especially with the recent changes to the Corsair. Strongly agree with Andromeda comparison!
That's an interesting couple to compare. I've got a constellation Andromeda and I'm considering ccuing it to the tac, but that lost of agility really has me questioning if it's worth it. You can have a tier 3 med bed in a Connie if you load a nursa, the Connie has a snub fighter too. But having that extra space onboard is always nice.
Nice review mate!
I appreciate it, thank you!
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie :D
Sticking with my corsair and maybe the redeemer
it's their long established tactic to make them look good for a while to get morons to spend the cost of several other games to buy a digital ship, then nerf it for the newer ones to look better.
@chrismeandyou Heh. Well fortunately, or unfortunately maybe, I buy the ships I like the look of, not their specs!
You made a fan with these ship break downs and your opinions on where they fit. Good perspective 👍
I have been a Connie lover since day 1 (I havee the Rear Admiral game package from 2013) but the max just screams Connie 2.0
I have since bought all the paints, a CCU to a TAC and another CCU from my connie to a Max.
Who knows, but with a bit of luck, we might see an RSI ship of similar size and role.
I'm not sure what angle you're looking at it that it screams Connie 2.0
TAC seems to be perfect ship to fight in incoming big worm boss battles. Respawn, cargo big enoght to take ground vechicles + extra weapons that can target Groud target. I do not see better ship them this to do that job now.
And considering killing these creatures may be important for crafting I agree unless the ship is very easy for worm to spit rocks at you and take the ship down
The TAC is a bit of everything.
- Its a mid range cargo
- Its a micro carrier
- Its a low end dropship
- Its a pretty good gunship
- Its a low range medical ship
- Its non of the above.
Excellent breakdown. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video! It says so much that you didn't even mention the Prowler as dropship though ... which is the most expensive ship of all of them (440 USD).
I considered the prowler while writing up this video, but I just cannot fathom a world in which it's worth it's asking price. It's just insane how you can get a reclaimer for less! Or even a 600i or an Ironclad for more 😬
@@Space-Tech It has also several minor and major bugs and visual glitches, one of the truly forgotten ships. Sadly also one of my favorite ones.
This one was concise and brought up great thinking points!

...Now I want the Carracks cargo bay to retract seamlessly into the undercarriage...
I would love it to function, period.
Crazy how they can add the exact same function to a new ship though. Especially with physical cargo now, there really is no excuse to continue ignoring the Carrack.
@@OmnipotentJC the excuse would be that the Carrack is missing more than retractable cargo bays: modules (check), drones (not yet), hologlobe (not yet), power grid (maybe?)
great video man, thank you and keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comparative - think I'll stick with my Freelancers for mostly solo gameplay. Can see small orgs liking both of these variants though.
When I first saw the Starlancers I thought... _"Look, it's the Odyssey for poor people!"_ 🤣

God bless!
They won't finish it in one year, not by a mile
Great video as always bro!
I think that the star lancer would be really good also as an exploration vessel, I hope they will do in the future an exploration variant with less luxurious habitation areas and more functionalities such as a scanning station

Awesome job as always Space
Totally get it, this is gonna be one of the nicest "homes" out there imo!
Fingers crossed we get a Starlancer DUR.
That would be an instant buy. (Also the idea of a Starlancer MIS would be hilarious.)
The Max is still inferior to the Cat and the Tac is another FPS org ship so I have no interest.
Ideally I wanted to use it for exploration e.g finding good spots for base building, monster hunting and also then defending my org's base if needed so kinda hoping this gets a large scanner/ radar upgrade in future then it really would be perfect
nicely done, thanks
For me personally I do like going a more roleplay style so having better living quarters is nice for me.

I am so much more happy with the distribution of firepower on the TAC

Pretty much exactly where I'm at with regards to the combined arms deployment. Definitely seems to be an intentional part of its design.
The MISC HULL C has the wrap around mail slot for sight too so not the biggest ship to date to get the iconic MISC cockpit
i'm gonna grab the tac since i'm close enough on ccu to store credit it, seems like it'd be a fun little jumptown-esque clowncar.
If this ship had come out or been previewed before the galaxy, I'd likely have gotten one. At the moment I'm going to wait on the galaxy to drop, and see what it can do for base building and cargo. I know it hauls more cargo, but how it works with the modules will be the most interesting.
6:46 The exact opposite, strongly considering swapping my TAC variant for a MAX now edit: swapped, no regrets
My only complaint of the max and tac are the limited firing arcs of the turrets. Minor nitpick is that it just looks like a burley freelancer and I'd have liked something more unique but, I'm ok with the freelancer too so it's not a deal breaker :)
I’d prefer a single hallway through the crew quarters area and move the rooms outboard so the rooms have window access instead of the hallway
I already own an Odyssey, so I'm only interested in the Starlancer BLD for base building and crafting.
Side access cargo needs to be done a lot more in SC, granted in smaller rather than larger ships. I much prefer this access to one end or another. Same goes for actual access doors to the ship.
They look like a mini MISC Odyssey. Each sharing some features of the Odyssey. Wonder if the Odyssey is coming soon.
I think the closest competitor to the TAC would be the Hercules M2, even though it's more expensive its similar in size and role
I upgraded my freelancer max to starlancer max. I just wish there was a medical bed in freelancer max. I can park the Ursa Medivac in it and solve that problem. Everything else looks great. I can't wait for it to be added to the game.
