    I love it! I’ve had it for a couple months.
    It’s a great wildlife lens. It’s fast focusing and has great range.
    I’ve found another good way to carry it. I attached a Peak Design plate and anchor link on the lens foot, attached another anchor plate to one of the built in rings on the lens, and attached my peak design strap to them. That way the camera and lens lays horizontally across my body instead of pointing down like it would connected just to both of the built in rings. There is no danger of hurting either the camera or lens mounts.
    I took the advice of UA-camr Thomas Eisl in his review and installed my battery grip. It gives my right hand more to hold on to and provides a counter balance when zooming in all the way by turning the lens barrel.
    Having 2 settings for the lens tension when zooming is really nice. Sometimes I turn the lens barrel to zoom. Sometimes it’s easier to use a push pull method, especially for flying birds.
    No, it’s not cheap and I wouldn’t call it small and light, but it’s worth every Penny.

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this lens. People were sceptical when the lens was released, but I think by now, people understand that this is a very good lens. I think om system just gave what the users asked for an extremely long telephoto zoom.
      Good idea to carry the lens horizontal. Might be something to look in to with all those heavier long lenses.

    I would love to have something like this for my moon photography. That reach is insane. I had to watch this on a bigger screen to see the results, that's great results. Very sharp and looks like the stabilization from the video clips looked decent even at that reach. I am not an OM-system user, but very detailed and informative video, enjoyed the shots.

      I've seen some images with moon shots from another om system ambassador, and the results were insane. Might try something like that myself. I'm sure this system might benefit you because you do a lot of hiking and lightweight would be really nice. Gonna watch your video somewhere today. I have some catching up to do after my trip 😅

    So many seem hung up on the idea that because this lens is based on a FF design that it may be bigger than a comparable native MFT lens. I think that is looking at this backward. Let's consider how it compares to a native 1,2000 FF lens like the Canon RF 1200 f8.0 IS. In the US it sells for $19,999.00 - yes, $20k!! - weighs 3,340g and is 537mm long - that's 1,275g heavier, 272.6mm longer (over twice!), 3/4 stop slower, and US $17,299.01 more expensive than this new OM System 150-600mm lens. OM System has just put a tool into the hands of tens of thousands of MFT photographers they would never ever be able to afford if they were shooting FF. You could buy an entire OM-1 system with body, this lens, and other lenses for the same or less money than this Canon lens alone.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому +2

      Wow who could afford a lens like that... 20k is outrageous... but you are right there is definitely demand for this lens and I think its not expansive. I'm also convinced that if sigma released it themselves dor exactly the same money then everyone would have been excited. Thanks for your comment. Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Further, the longest Nikon lens is 800mm for US $16,300 and the longest Fuji lens is a 150-600mm for US $1,600. I don't think MFT shooters know how good they have it. 🙂

      You cannot compare this lens to the Canon 1200mm prime there would be no comparison in quality you would be better to compare it to the Canon 200/800mm on a R7 apsc giving 1280mm and a thousand dollars cheaper and few grams lighter.

      @@isotechimages.9130 I can see part of your point, but this Canon lens a full f-stop slower at f9. Seriously? F9?? And we all know that faster lenses are sometimes exponentially more expensive.
      The real point is that there are very, very few competitors in any format to this new MFT lens, and it give all MFT shooters - but especially Olympus/OM System - incredible reach. What's the problem? Would you be happier if this lens were not introduced? I just don't understand all the nit picking and complaining. Poor Panasonic and OM System. They are damned if they don't introduce new products and they are dammed if they do.

    Anyone expecting a smaller lens in this 150mm to 600mm range needs to get themselves checked. Look at the 150-400mm f4.5, it's pretty much the same size and costs $7K. If the price for this lens is between $2500-$3000,it will be priced pretty much right, especially with today's inflation where governments are printing money like there is no tomorrow.
    I shoot Nikon, and will continue to do so for some time, too costly to switch systems.
    You all should be glad in today's crap economic situation many people and corporations find themselves in that Olympus still exists, just in a different name.
    Stop complaining and enjoy what you have and just go out and take pictures.
    If you guys think this new lens by OM Systems is big and heavy, try shooting a D850 or Z9 with the Sigma 500mm f4 sports, which I shoot ninety percent of the time hand held, and I am in my mid fifties.

    I purchased the OM-1 with the 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 lens in May 2022 after seeing a demo. I have truly enjoyed this camera and lens combination and greatly preferred it over my Sony a7R I full frame that had matched with a Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, which I sold. After watching your and other videos, I ordered the new OM 150-600 f/5.0-6.3 lens, which arrived earlier this week. I have been thinking about a 600mm lens (prime or zoom…?) for my OM-1 recently and decided the OM 150-600 was the right approach and price point for me. I’m excited about matching it up with the new OM-1 II body that I ordered today. I’m looking forward to giving the pair a good workout this year! 😊

      Wow, it sounds like you have an awesome combination there! Are you going to keep the 100-400 also? I have had the privilege to loan the 150-400 Pro for a while and noticed that I almost never use the 100-400 anymore. It's special because I also have the 40-150 2.8, so I have the whole range covered. In about 10 minutes, I'm releasing a new video where I tested the om-1 mkii with the 150-400 Pro on bird and also in flight. I was amazed by the results. Next week, I'm doing the same thing, but then with the 150-600 lens. So you might want to check those out. I watched this on a 4K television, and I must say that I would be very pleased with any of the images, even after their having undergone the UA-cam compression algorithm or whatever that magic is called and at 600mm. This lens delivers for those that want it.
    Having seen it on your camera and in your hands however, I also realize that I will not be purchasing this lens, nor even the 100 to 400. For now I will settle for purchasing the 75 to 300. It may not have quite the reach, nor the IQ, but it better fits the reason that I have chosen micro 4/3 - with the exception of the lack of weather sealing.

      Happy to see you lined the video and the images. And I totally get why you are choosing the 75-300 that is such a great lens if you considder its tiny size. There is no weather sealing indeed but if I look at my own photography and ask how many times i would have needed it then it comes down to 1 percent of my images I guess. Just be a met more careful with that 1 percent and you will be fine 😀 grt guido

    Even at 2kg, I reckon this lens will be extremely popular. Yes the Sigma design will annoy a lot of people with the price hike but you can't get this specs anywhere else. OM system has modified it and put Sync IS at 6ev for the long end, if that's true and 1200 at 6 EV, that's even better than the 150-400 pro because with the built in teleconverter, I don't think it will have 6 EV anymore. It has better weather sealing than the Sigma and it works with the two MC teleconverter, you are not getting these features with the Sigma lens alone and you can to 1200mm with m43 instead of a crop in 900mm with either APSC bodies or full frame. OM system knows it and that's why it charge us the premium

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 місяців тому

      I do agree with you, and I am convinced that om system did much more work on this lens than people say they did. It says on the lens ED glas like all other olympus / om system lenses. So I'm convinced they've put their own glass in the lens. And I have used all oylmpus lenses, and I was really surprised by the IS on this one it is just really good. And yes, it is heavy, but I had so much fun with it on that day that I tested it. I could take shots that were far out of reach normally. So I'm convinced that there is a marked for this lens. The updates on the AF were promised on the OM-1 but they deemed it appropriate to provide them on a new model and in my opinion this is not correct and will damage the image of the OM SYSTEM. Regarding the new objective (Sigma), like the previous 100-400, I believe it is the symptom of the irreversible decline of the brand which is no longer capable of designing specific MFT products. I forgot to specify that I use the OM-1 with its Pro lenses and so I'm sorry.

    Hi Guido,
    The M.Zuiko 150-600 has a range of minimum focusing distances between 0.56 metres ! 150 mm and 2.8 metres at 600 mm. If you are inside the 2.8 metres distance all you have to do is back the zoom off until the lens can grab focus. I did some test comparisons with the M.Zuiko 100-400 shooting at about 1.4 metres from the subject. I could use 400 mm focal length with the 100-400, but had to back the 150-600 off to around 328 to 340 mm so it could grab focus.

By the time I made this video lightroom did not recognise the raw files from the new mk2 camera. So there is even more improvement possible here. What you see here are the raw files converted to tiff files with om workspace and then did some basic edits on them in lightroom and normal noise reduction. There is nothing wrong with the om-1 and the 100-400. I'm using that combi for 2 years with epic shots. In my opinion, not every lens \ camera is designed for every user. I'm not buying the 150-600 myself. I liked using it but it will make me less flexible. But if you were only interested in birds, then that lens would be great. I see it like cars. If a brand makes a new model, I don't have to buy it. Somehow, that seems different with cameras were every new release should suit everyone's demands, which just isn't possible. Thanks for watchibg the video and for sharing your thoughts in the comment I do appreciate it! Grt guido

      I didn't say there was anything WRONG with the OM-1 and the 100 to 400 telephoto,@@GuidoVanDeWater!! I merely stated a fact, that doubling the price of the new version of the same camera while introducing a spectacular new lens in the same range has the chilling effect I mentioned!
      It is no different than with cars. If the same model Toyota / Tesla comes out at double the price, 2 years later, I would not be any happier and I would not buy it! Their loss! This strategy severely stifles the growth of their pro-am market that they have been targeting, with dire consequences and I expect they will have to come up with a new similarly degraded OM-5, to try and keep their niche, but, like cars, there's a lot riding in a name. I love my OM-1; no plans to "upgrade" until there is good reason. Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the great review! How would you compare this lens against the 100-400, image quality wise? From what I've heard so far, it seems to be better than the 100-400, but, not surprisingly, worse than the 150-400 pro.

      If you ask me it is exactly like you say it is. It's just slightly above the 100-400 in image quality but it so much easier to use. The image stabilisation is just next level compared to the 100-400. The 150-400 f4.5 Pro is just a next level above everything lens. That is just the vest piece of equipment that I've ever used. Been walking around with that one on my latest trip and used it a lot. Videos of that comming from this sunday so subscribe if tmyou want to see more of that lens. I think it's simple if you have the money available deffinitly go for the 150-400 f4.5 if you don't have it the 150-600 is a cheaper alternative with very good quality. If you want a lot of zoom and not much money available then go for the 100-400. Thanks for the comment. Happy to see the review was useful. Grt guido

    Good For OM to do the OM-1 and new lenses. confidence is important for the users to know new products are coming. Unfortunately, I have sold all my Olympus gear OM-1 as I was not convinced that it was the right tool for me. Been with Nikon and Fuji for many years and the change required a great deal of changes especially on the post processing side. Also, the big focus by OM-1 on speed and computational photography was not contributing to what I need. I print big, I do not shoot at 40fps, I don't need high-res images as I could really not see any significant benefit, Pro capture for the few times I use it is now available on both Fuji and Nikon. So no this is not a comparison as the OM users will throw "size" and "price" and DOF and other stuff at me, with each there is a counter. Size. The camera is small but not much smaller than the Fuji, Cheaper, No again some FF cameras are cheaper, lighter, the new 150-600 is over 2 kg and is a Sigma designed FF lens.. so my point is, it is not a competition about gear, it remains a competition for output and final image quality and results. There are many positives I enjoyed about OM, such as the small and light, but the the modern ML systems all offer small and lighter then the old DSLR. Great so see OM developing and growing their customer base, it keeps the other honest and chasing as well.

      I guess not every system is for everyone and I totally respect that. You are absolutely right that the weight and size advantage isn't that big anymore compared to other ML systems. You did you're homework and made a decent choice in what system they need and want that is a realy good thing. I see people switching system many times and spending lots and lots of money doing it and that is such a shame. As long as your satisfied with the system you use then that is the most important! Did you try the lens on both the Mk-1 and Mk-2 versions of the OM-1? If so, do you have a sense for how much of the performance improvements (compared to the 100-400 mm) were due to the lens vs improvements in the body & its new software. Thanks for the very helpful review!

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому +1

      I didn't use it on the mk1. Having a different camera around for 10 days was a great moment for me to send the mk1 in for a proper check and clean so I only had the mk2 available at that time. I think there should not be much difference in the body. But the image stabilisation has improved on the mk2 and the focus system works better so there would be a little improvement. But I don't know how if that difference is noticeable because I simply didn't try it. If you're comming from an older model and deciding between a mk1 and mk2 then I would deffinitly recommend the mk2. If you already have a om1 mk1 then you just have to decide if those new features are worth it. Grt guido

    I don't think it's possible to shrink a long lens that much even if you design it from scratch for the smaller sensor. If you compare the 100-400 mm from Panasonic and Olympus you get a sense of what you can gain, a bit lighter, a bit smaller, a bit faster too yes but nothing huge. The Olympus 300 mm f4 is also quite similar in size and weight to the full frame lenses of the same focal length, I even think Nikon got a smaller and lighter 300 mm with their PF lens.

    Or you can say by your own opinion about that if you had that just for test for a while and you are unable to test that.

      I actualy did that companion. There is a windmill in my street and I shot the same image from tripod with the 300mm, 100-400, 150-600 and 300+ teleconverter. And to my surprise there was almost no difference. I think the 300 and the 300 + converter were slightly sharper then the other. According to weight... yes its heavyer but duento the images stabilisation it was much more fun to use then then the 100-400. So between those 2 I would go for the 150-600. But the 300 f4 is sharper and had very good stabilisation. So the question then is if you want a prime or a zoom... grt guido

    I don't know, Guido... I look at the new 150-600mm lens and I'm thinking - if I wanted to carry huge bulky lenses that weigh over 2kg, I would have stayed with Nikon. And even with Nikon, their latest Z-System super telephoto zoom, the Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 (FF lens, mind you!) is roughly the same size and weight and costs 2000€. This new OM-System lens is for M43 and the retail price is 2700€! That's just crazy and I have to say, I'm not impressed. I'm in a bit of a quandary. I'm currently using a Nikon D7500 with the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary as my long lens, but I really don't like handholding that weight but also don't want to have to resort to a mono/tripod so have been wondering whether to switch to the OM-1 + 100-400mm for months since the lower weight will get me better results, I feel.
    Currently with the APS-C 1.5x crop factor that works out at 225-900mm equivalent FOV where the 100-400mm M43 gives an equivalent of 200-800mm, fairly close. I've seen decent shots using that lens with the 1.4 TC which bumps it up to 280-1120mm. Seeing this new lens give an equivalent of 300-1200mm without a TC is interesting, but then I'd be losing all the weight gain advantage.
    Has anyone experienced a similar change of systems to mine with a positive outcome?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 місяців тому +2

      That sounds like a decent problem, indeed. What I have to warn you about is that the 100-400 is a sublime lens, but... when you start zooming above 360 mm, the lens gets just a little softer. When you have a frame filling subject like a bird, it isn't a problem, but for example, I am a landscape photographer who experiences that problem quite often. That softness is something I just didn't experience with that 150-600, and I also didn't notice on the 300f4 prime with teleocnvertets and also not on the 150-400 f4.5 pro. So there are a lot of options. The 300 is light, but you lose flexibility. The 150-600 is flexible but heavier. And the 150-400 is just exceptionally briljant but really expansive... food for tought, I guess.. Good luck. im sure you will find a good solution for your needs. Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater I neglected to mention that your example images seem to have come out really well with good detail, especially impressive at 10k ISO.
      Regarding the softness at the 360mm+ with the 100-400mm, it's really subjective as to whether that softness is too soft or acceptable, I suppose. It's a common criticism of the 150-600 I currently use above 500mm, but I've taken photos I'm happy with at full zoom. My main criticism of that lens is that I feel the AF can be quite frustrating... When it locks on, I can't complain, but it can struggle quite a lot at times. The encouraging thing with the OM-1 is that subject detection should help a great deal, and this new 150-600mm seems to be based off the higher end Sigma Sport rather than Contemporary line. The IS seems to be significantly better than what I'm used to, although I know my technique also needs work. Like you said, food for thought... The only certainty is that the 150-400mm Pro is definitely outside my budget.

      @english_electric7125 well the softness is definitely acceptable. If you look on my channel in older videos all shots of landscapes between 300-400 are with that lens and with some amazing results. But ince i own the 300 f4 i prefer using that with the 1.4 converter when i see a shot at 400mm because the shot is a little bit more crisp in sharpnes. But shots are definitely usable! My own experiments with telephoto landscapes so far have mostly been marred by atmospheric conditions unfortunately, so I tend to prefer wider angle still. I think to some extent, we all fall into a trap of wanting perfection at the expense of "good enough" and it's easy to be disappointed with that ethos. My hardest lesson since getting back into photography hasn't been getting the exposure right, or composition - it's been accepting that we don't always get the shot, and to be happy with the successes rather than disheartened by the failures... @@GuidoVanDeWater But Sigma declares sealing, it is standard for these lenses. Sorry, maybe I'm overreacting. An MFT user told me a while ago that Sigma doesn't have an OS and the OM version does, so I get the feeling that OM users don't really know anything about Sigma lenses and that's where their belief of OM superiority comes from.

    OM lost it and with it lost me, it is clear now why we did not get any new firmware for the Mark 1, they want us to buy in fact the same camera again (do they think we are stupid). And going the +2Kg route with this overpriced lens is a dead end. Having that +2Kg weight hanging down on your M4/3 mount will wreck the mount in the end.

      I just bought the Mark 1 a month before the 2 came out. Needless to say very disappointed in the company for the almost slimy lack of firmware update vs new camera. No okay. And not even hiding it. feeling Stuck with the 1 for no reason.

      @JudithCarlisle-fe5tn nobody ever said that there was going to be new software for the mark 1. They even made a statement that new software will be released later this year. I get that the timing of buying the om-1 but you still have a very capable camera there so its a shame you feel bad about it.

    It is a heavy overpriced SIGMA lens with mft adaption.

      As far as im told they did a lot of adaptations. Different glas and making that image stabalisation in sync with the body. But inagree that it is an expensive lens. I wonder what would have happend if sigma released this product on they're own name for the exact same price. I really think that nobody would complain then. Thanks for the comment inapreciate it.

      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 місяців тому

Anyways thanks for watching and you're comment I apreciate it! Grt guido
