    Hello Guido Yes autumn is coming and we must not get up so early in the morning for those images. I do not often photograph in the blue hour because I like to shoot handheld and in this time of the day it is better using a tripod. Last Thursday I was on our storage lake. Gray, dark and spooky conditions. It was a bad idea putting 70-300mm on the camera :-). Grt Ernesto

      There are just many more options in Lightroom, especially in combination with Photoshop. Stacking images together works much better in these combi. If there was only one image, then I think it doesn't really matter what you use, but still, I'm used to Lightroom for all the edits, so I would probably stick to that. What's your preferred editing software? Thanks for watching Grt guido

    It's great that the f/4 lens is less than half the weight (43%) but the internal zoom and compatibility with TCs make the f/2.8 that bit more appealing

    "I've made this area too popular" I kind of want to go there myself, after this. I think I'll have to do more landscape anyway, to stretch sone photographic muscles. I started in order to shoot wildlife, but maybe because of that, I'm looking at some of your shutter speeds in shock! Cannot argue with the results.

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Oh, I know! A lot of what you're saying speaks to me, as someone posting a bit of art and photography on instagram; but I'm unwilling to get on what another commenter called 'the hamster wheel', if I get more serious about it. I've seen a few youtubers and instagrammers (or should I say, photographers and artists on youtube and instagram?) get burnt out by dancing to the algorithm's tune, on both platforms. It doesn't look like a pleasant situation.

      @vermis8344 I guess the moment I don't enjoy it anymore will be the moment that I quit. It's a way of reaching out into the world but not cost of everything. I just can't push myself to do instagram anymore. Feels like useless effort. So I don't do much there anymore. I mainly focus on youtube als for the reason that I just.love it and there is much more engagement with the people watching.

    Hello Guido, i have to go just 500 or 1000 Meters to be in a awesome landscape with some trees, a little bit of fog and sunrise. The evening before i check the wheather forecast and if the conditions for fog are good, i go out in the morning. I don´t have an influence on the clouds. So they can be my fried or enemy. Kind regards Bernd

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater 11 годин тому

      I do about the same. I've been to a lot of locations about maximum of 20 to 30 minutes around my house. I just look at the forecast and then decide what area suits best with that forecast. Sometimes I have to pass a location to get to what I have in mind. I do have the rule that when it's good I just stop there. I never drive far when there is fog closer to home. What a mood! Personally, I actually like blue hour a lot more than golden hour, just something with the added serenity of colder tones as the warmer ones creep up. Loved the minimalist shots, perfectly captured the magic of the morning. But man, 6 degrees 😂 any special autumn plans coming up?

      Amazing right. I don't do much in the blue hour, but maybe I should do it more often. Always seem to like those shots. Don't have any autumn plans yet. But I am considering a trip just to make a bunch of videos as backup before winter arrives. Last year, I struggled to get enough content in that period. Any suggestions? 😅 grt guido

Some of my favourite photos in Iceland and Italy this year have been taken with this lens but the F4 is preferable when travelling I also love the 2.8 lens for action photos of our dogs Some walks we go on it’s never changed for another lens it really is so versatile :)

    I have both the f4 and f2.8 version of the lens. I use the f4 a lot for landscape photography (basically daily) because it it so compact. I have the mini messenger bag and the 12-40mm f2.8 and the 40-150mm attached to my OM-5 fit snug into it. Very small package with a lot of possibilities. So, for that the f4 is brilliant. But if I had to choose it would be the f2.8 without a second thought. I know when it was released a lot of people said that the f4 has similar image quality as the f2.8 but that is not true. Bokeh on the f4 can be harsh at times, the f2.8 never is. The f2.8 is sharper at f2.8 than the f4 at f4. The f2.8 has a much more natural image output. And like you I dropped the f2.8 and it just keeps working.

      I was out for the first time with the f4 this morning. It's a great lens but totally different then the f2.8. On the back of the camera the images looked great quality wise but it's. The usability that raised some questions for me. I know noticed how much I love my manual focus clutch and tripod collar for portrait shots. I think they both have other users. Theb2.8 is for the serious photographers that go out specifically for phoyograohy. The f4 is more like, I'm going to the zoo and this is a great small lens to take along. But maybe my mind will change if I use it longer but this is my first impression... thanks for watchibg grt guido

    Another difference as you say later between the F4 40-150 and the 2.8 is that the 2.8 doesn't trombone, so length isn't so much, plus you can lose some weight by removing the tripod collar. Its hard to put a finger on it, but the F4 just doesn't seem to be in the same class.

    If I could take only one lens for landscape, then the 12-40 f/2.8. That being said, I might take the 12-45 f/4. I love its small size and close focusing distance. The 40-150 f/4 is a terrific lens. Good price, light weight, great quality images. Pairs really well with the OM-5. If I had take only one lens and glue it to my OM-5, it would be the 20mm f/1.4.

    Hi Guido, Ik heb beide lenzen in mijn bezit gehad en intensief gebruikt, maar recent overgestapt op de 4.0 versie. Beide lenzen presteren zeer goed, maar in combinatie met mijn Pen F body is de 4.0 een betere combinatie, laat onverlet dat beide objectieven 👌🏼zijn. Mijn keuze voor dagelijks gebruik zijn de 12-100mm en de 100-400mm met converters. Ik bezit nog diverse FT lenzen (7-14 mm f4.0, 14-54mm f 2.8, 50-250mm f2.8-3.5, 50mm f2.0) deze zet ik nog regelmatig in op mijn OM-1 mk 2 met de ft/mft adapter hiermee zijn ook nog steeds prima resultaten te behalen is mijn ervaring. I took the 12-40 f2.8 and 40-150 f2.8 to Lake Brienz and Lauterbrunnen. We hike a lot. I used the 40-150 about 60 to 70 % of the time, so even in the mountains. Why did I decide for this lens: it has internal zoom! Knocking the tip of external zoom when it is extracted will damage or at least have a detrimental effect on its lifetime. For shots at golden hour and portraits f2.8 can’t be beaten.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater 3 дні тому

      I think you're right about the durability of the f4. I also prefer internal zoom lenses. That's the only reason why the 150-400 is so ridiculously good. A lens with that focal range completely internal is just amazing. I would never buy the 150-600 for that reason. Even in golden hours, I rarely shoot at 2.8 unless I have no tripod. Handheld, there is no other choice. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I just answered to your mail btw. Grt guido

    I love the 40-150 f/2.8! I do use it with teleconverters, but I find that the bokeh gets -- nervous -- when you use them. I'm on my 3rd lens hood, and they're kind of expensive. Supposedly the lens hood from the 100-400 will fit (and wouldn't fall apart), but I haven't been able to buy one because they're always out of stock.
