      There is absolutely nothing wrong with the first om-1. I've been loving it since I got I 1.5 years ago. Amazing piece of technology. The thing is that people always want better, and bigger etc etc. And if it doesn't match the expectation, then it sucks. But maybe then the camera or lens isn't for them. Everyone has the right to like or dislike something, and that is OK. I'm just happy to see that you appreciate the system and see its true value. That's what it's all about. If you have the camera that suits your needs, then that's great. Photograohynshould be fun to do and a hunt for bigger better, etc. Where soes it end its never good enough. Where are you from? @@GuidoVanDeWater I think people mostly talk about price, and I can agree with that personally. I didn't expect that high jump, but maybe 250-300$ more than OM-1. Would make sense much for overall society, but yeah that 1000$ difference - at least in my country, covers all goods of this camera. Have a good day Guido! :)

    I purchased the OM-1 with the 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 lens in May 2022 after seeing a demo. I have truly enjoyed this camera and lens combination and greatly preferred it over my Sony a7R I full frame that had matched with a Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, which I sold. After watching your video today, I ordered the OM-1 II for the incremental improvements. I believe these improvements will make a difference for me, but time and experience will tell…😊

    Thanks for a clear video of what the Mark II has to offer. I appreciate it not being worded so tech heavy. I am still using an EM1 Mark II so I think it is fitting that I upgrade to this Mark II. 😁

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому +1

      If you're comming from a em1mk2 then this would be a great upgrade. I would choose the mark 2 then because the image stabilisation is better and you get all those other features. Big pre for me are those rubber dials. So much easier to use with gloves on. But no i didn't use it on the om-1mk1. I tought having the other camera around would be a great moment for me to send that in for a proper check and clean haha. So I wasn't without a camera at any time. Grt guido

    Even at 2kg, I reckon this lens will be extremely popular. Yes the Sigma design will annoy a lot of people with the price hike but you can't get this specs anywhere else. OM system has modified it and put Sync IS at 6ev for the long end, if that's true and 1200 at 6 EV, that's even better than the 150-400 pro because with the built in teleconverter, I don't think it will have 6 EV anymore. It has better weather sealing than the Sigma and it works with the two MC teleconverter, you are not getting these features with the Sigma lens alone and you can to 1200mm with m43 instead of a crop in 900mm with either APSC bodies or full frame. OM system knows it and that's why it charge us the premium

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 місяців тому

      I do agree with you, and I am convinced that om system did much more work on this lens than people say they did. It says on the lens ED glas like all other olympus / om system lenses. So I'm convinced they've put their own glass in the lens. And I have used all oylmpus lenses, and I was really surprised by the IS on this one it is just really good. And yes, it is heavy, but I had so much fun with it on that day that I tested it. I could take shots that were far out of reach normally. So I'm convinced that there is a marked for this lens. Anyways thanks for watching and you're comment I apreciate it! Grt guido

    Today is unfortunately not a good day for all who have recently bought an OM-1, the release of the MkII mean nothing more than less or no firmware updates, no improvements on the autofocus - many of us have hoped for. I'm not amused, to say it politely.

      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому +2

      I get that you are disappointed on that one. These days it's always a risk when buying new stuff I experienced the same with a phone I bought. I am glad to see OM System has addressed the stiffness of the front and back dials which has never been smooth on my Mark I. I often find myself having to work the dials to loosen them up. The new graduated filter feature sounds interesting. As someone who likes to crop in camera, the one thing I would like to see is more cropping options including a 5:4 aspect ratio and a 65:24 aspect ratio. Hopefully this will come in the next upgrade.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      Yeah the dials are just realy smooth now. It's more like my em1x used to be. Ah I never crop in camera I always do it in pst processing. I haven't tried that gnd filter but I'm also looking forward to using it. Hopefully I will have another go at that one soon. Grt guido

      @danevarkevisser4670 7 місяців тому +1

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Interesting that you only choose to crop in post. This is a personal thing, but the benefit I see with cropping in camera is you can make compositional decisions based on the specific aspect ratio you have decided best suits the scene and as such you can take more care with your edges and other compositional elements in the image with the chosen crop in view and at the point of capture. The OM System and Olympus cameras don't bin the extra pixels, so they are always there if you decide you made a mistake and think another crop better suits the capture. One thing I always do is shoot both JPEG and RAW together. I want the JPEGs to remind me of my intentions when I shot the image - that is the aspect ratio I chose fo the scene and whether I was seeing it in monochrome, in partial colour or in full colour.

    • @oneeyedphotographer
      @oneeyedphotographer 7 місяців тому

      @danevarkevisser4670 7 місяців тому +1

      @@oneeyedphotographer I perhaps didn't make it clear. I also crop in post, but I have already determined the aspect ratio I want to use in camera before taking into post. The advantage of doing it in camera in the first instance is I don't need cardboard cutouts to see what the image looks like using different aspect ratios. The facility is there in your camera. This is exactly why I love this feature in modern cameras. I use it so much I would like to see a dial on the camera just to change aspect ratio. But this is me personally. It is horses for courses. If you think you can do without this feature, good for you.

    Not a fan of the 150-600. The lens size is the best feature of m43. Agree that it is a bit heavy and big for m43 body. But i guess they just made what the marked asked for. And if you compare it to a 1200mm ff lens then this thing is tiny. Hoi Guido
    Eerlijk is eerlijk,de beelden zijn zeer goed. Ik denk, dat ze de naam wisseling gecombineerd hebben met een flinke software up-date want dat is wat hier is gebeurd. De veranderingen zijn vooral inboddy. Software matig. Ik heb ook sterk het gevoel, dat de eigen OM verwerkings software hier heel erg goed zijn werk doet. Beter dan light room is mijn idee. Je argumenten met betrekking tot het gewicht en omvang ten opzicht van een full frame systeem snijden geen hout. Mijn Canon R3 met de RF 100-500 met 1,4 extender weegt net zoveel als het OM - system systeem. Mijn R3 mag dan misschien iets bulky zijn, maar als je daar een R6 Mark II naast zet is, dan wordt het een ander verhaal..Wat wel als argument blijft staan het is prijsverschil , want dat is wel significant in het voordeel van OM-systems .

    An upgrade to 25 or 28MP stacked sensor would have been really nice. Also long over do, having the power switch on the right side so that you switch the camera on with just one hand. Sure you can change the func. lever to be the power switch, but then you lose functionality. Nikon has this and the Panasonic G9 1st version did. The G9 II did away with that. I own the E-M1x and the OM1.

      At first I was also a bit disappointed that the sensor wasn't upgraded. Knowing that Panasonic had a bigger sensor but that wasn't a back lit sensor so that would probably mean a loss in dynamic range. And when I started thinking of it I prefer the old sensor of 20mp above a loss of dynamic range. A while ago I read that Sony had build a mft sensor with 40 mp so I still have hope for a upgrade in the future. That power switch on the ride side would be nice indeed! I also have that frustration when I forgot to turn it on haha. Thanks fo watching. Grt guido

Als ik de camera nog eens krijg zal ik er zeker naar gaan kijken. Grt guido

    I am buying this camera, I also shoot Nikon but the OM-1 I have now does it shoot in 14bit RAW or 12bit? and I think the new camera shoots 14bit now right?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      I haven't tried this myself but according to the specs that I got yes new camera shoots 14 bit raw images so that is an improvement. The only problem was that lightroom didnt recognise the files yet so im looking forward to see what i can pull out of these images. Do you already use a om system camera next to your nikon? For me, this has no clear advantage over the Lumix G9 II, and I see no reason to prefer this over my E-M1x. A successor to the latter, I would consider.
    I don't use GNDs, and the implementation here, from another review, has the same faults in implementation. I do landscapes, 100 megapixels from the G9 II is something I value.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому

      I haven't used the g9ii myself but looking at the specs I think these cameras are pretty similar. The om-1 is a bit more focused on fast shutter speeds and the g9 a little more on video. All in all you just have to use what suits you best. If that is the g9ii then I don't see a reason to switch 🙂 can the g9ii shoot 100mp high res shots? That's a huge image. I also shoot 90 percent landscapes and I often use the high res mode of the om-1 also. It gives great results. Thanks for your comment I apreciate it 🙂 grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater 100 Megapixels hand-held. I like the ability to crop, perhaps a lot, and that's a huge advantage over the E-M1x and later.
      I'm unsure whether it's an advantage, it share batteries, bodies and battery grips with the S5 II and S5x.
      The batteries for the G9 ar oh so similar to Canon's LP-E6, the shape so close that a small change would have made them the same, and the pinout's different. I have a lot of batteries for Canon DSLRs.
      No GPS, but some more computational features from Olympus.

    Hallo Guido, prachtige camera, voor mij is 1 ding belangrijk is de ruis bij slechte licht omstandigheden? Ik vind die bij de OM1 erg matig pf ronduit slecht. Boven de 2000 iso kreeg je al veel ruis. Is dat bij deze nieuwe camera beter?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому

      Bijna alle foto's in deze video zijn geschoten op iso 10.000. Voor mij is dat prima bruikbaar zoals je ziet. Aangezien ligntroom the raw files nog niet herkent kon ik de nieuwste ruisreductie ook niet gebruiken dus dit is wat het is. Ik fotografeer veel landschappen en dus vaak met weinig licht en moet zeggen dat ik er eigenlijk nooit last van heb (zie alle video op mijn kanaal). Ook goed om te onthouden isndat ruis eigenlijk alleen digitaal zichrbaar is en niet op prints. Ik maak me er dan ook nooit echt druk om. Grt guido

    Some questions:
    sample images were raws ?
    was noise reduction in postprocessing used, or they were dowsized ?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому +1

      Lightroom didn't recognise the raw files yet so these are edits from om workspace. Noise reduction was applied with om workspace but they were not downsized. But that being said a certain amount of compression is used when I put them in a video and youtube then does more compression to upload them but when I watch the video myself they look prety accurate. Considering I used iso 10.000 most of the time I was very happy with the results. Grt guido

    Hi Guido, I am a little nervous, I can not find nowhere WHAT IS THE WEIGHT of 150-400 TC... with lens hood included? They write literally EVERYWHERE 1,85 kg... but that is without lens hood. Even Olympus doesn't write what is the weight of their lens hood product. I don't understand that. Could you put it on your weight with OM-1 with lens hood on, and tell me that "secret" of the whole gear?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  7 місяців тому

      The whole lens including the lens hood weight 2013g. Without the lens hood I weights 1832g so the lens hood weights 175g. The om1 without the grip weights 609 (with tripod plate attayched) so with the lens and lenshood it's 2640g. If you want to add a grip with battery the grip weights 317g incl battery. Hope this solves the mystery 😀 grt guido

      Thank you though! A6400 + Sony 200-600 I remember was 3050 g with strap Peak Design attatched. Now with A7IV it's around 3350 g. It's freaking heavy. I made fast calulation and even Nikon Z8 + 400 mm f4.5 + x.2.0 teleconverter is 2,340 grams. That's amazing. I wish sony do light primes for affordable price.
