I enjoyed the comparison experience. My Husband was a butcher & later on cooked French style (butter) at the NYC Plaza Hotel, back in the day. Cooking almost everything in butter is a game changer.
We always cook steaks in butter on high-ish, on stove top, flip over when 1/2 done & add drained canned sliced mushrooms. After steaks are removed, add a little water & scrape the pan for all the goodness & resulting sauce.
Oh yes, splatter too. Full aprons help, but never enough apron coverage to protect upper top, sleeves & sides!!! I need a body suit! I spot treat with diluted Dawn, applied before machine wash helps a lot.

@@PatB415 Hi Pat here's a tip for you. Ask your local fire dept to contact you if they have any Tyvek covers that they are going to trash. If they get a crack or split they are replaced, and are supposed to be age replaced anyway. It's easy to sew through but you can just cut out a cover of sorts for your front, arms, and as far down as you want to go.
About the butter, do you have a drive-through/eat in called Culver's where you live? They make a hand shaped pattie burger called, Butter Burger. Oh my gosh it's SO good! It's browned in butter and the pan (except its a flat grill) goodies are scraped up and included. Haven't had one in years. That's the best burger ever! The cheese is real Wisconsin cheddar (they don't use chemical American cheese there. If you ever go, get some fried cheese curds,(fresh from WI) although the hand-crinkle fries are delish too.

@@Good-DaySunshine Tyvek & Fire Dept, what a great idea.....value & purpose! Home Depot's Tyvek painter's coveralls, not the same quality.. Wow, Culver's Butter Burger, Cheese & Fries sound like Heaven! They've been in S. Fla since 2014 & while I never heard of them, it'll be on my bucket list when I'm in their vicinity! Thanks!

My mouth was watering just watching that. I use the ninja indoor unit, where you can broil, sear, bake, air fry , grill, and dehydrate. I love it. I also use the ninja outdoor electric smoker (my favorite). Makes excellent jerky! On the outdoor unit, I can smoke then air crisp. Brisket, spatchcock chicken, ribs and wings….oh my! The nice thing is the cleanup …one thing! I could make a commercial for them. Maybe?

I have one of the original air fryers and have cooked steaks a few times, the difference in time between perfect andd overcooked can be a hell of a challenge. Sadly where I am, the flashy air fryers such as the Ninjas etc are a fortune! Nice video, I tend to agree...I prefer the seared but not the clean up!

I use the same cast iron skillet to heat the steak in the oven and then sear it on the stove top. It does splatter quite a bit, but I only have one pan to clean up. Also, I have to spin my steaks in the oven half way through because my cheap oven is hotter in the back. I’m still working on hitting that perfect medium rare, but even my misses are juicy and tender. An air frying microwave would definitely save on counter space.

Great comparison with the methods of cooking these ribeye steaks. When I use the microwave for my English muffins, I change up the power level to keep it from overcooking. You mentioned changing that up a bit so I'll be looking forward to seeing how you perfect the ribeye.

I enjoyed watching these two methods of cooking and the results. Thanks Tim. Unfortunately, the air fryer never worked for me. I like the concept, but in the case of the ribeye I prefer grilling. I'm intrigued by the use of coffee and may need to try it. If I can't grille outdoors, I use and indoor smokeless grille with the exhaust fan on. Lol. Just seems to cook well and holds more flavor. 😋

OK, you had me at "Ribeyes" - LOL!! GREAT experiment in comparing oven versus air fryer - and thanks for the tip about using coffee grounds. I will try that this weekend. My first air fryer (Cooks Essential brand from QVC) was purchased in 2018. I credit that little workhorse in helping me lose 90 pounds!! It stood the test of time until a few weeks ago when it decided to fall apart.. Amazon Prime Day came around just in the nik of time - I now own a Cosori and am absolutely thrilled with its performance. Using the oven here in Florida during the summer is impossible - just too stinkin hot. Air fryer to the rescue! And, truth be told, I have never cooked a steak in the oven. I was always a cast iron on the stove kind of cook until the air fryer came along. Those little egg soufflés you made a while back in the ramikins - yep - I cook them in the air fryer and they are delicious!! Hamburgers, steaks, bacon, eggs, vegetables, chicken, gluten free muffins, pizza, etc.... all delicious in the air fryer. AS far as steaks go - the sear is incredible with this new Cosori. I was tempted to purchase the "dual blaze" model to have a top/bottom heating element, but just flipping the steak halfway produces the required sear for me. And YES - butter is a must have - I never cook without it - LOL!! On a different note - - the quality of this video is spot on. In fact, it's one of your best in my opinion of course. The lighting, pace, close-ups, length, commentary, and information are all top notch! I see a "Welcome to Tim's Kitchen" UA-cam channel in your future - LOL!!! Keep up the great work Tim - always a pleasure to watch your channels. Enjoy the day!! 🙂

After watching you do the flat iron steak in the air fryer, I got brave and did a hamburger patty in my microwave/air fryer. My biggest concern was the mess it could make in the microwave. Much to my surprise, there was no visible splatter, but I still felt compelled to wipe down the inside of the microwave. The hamburger patty came out juicier and it was easier to melt cheese on it than using the George Foreman grill. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nope on the air frier. First, I dont actually cook steak. My son is the steak master at both mine and his Dad's houses (funny because his Dad taught him and now prefers our son's steaks. Lol). But he is normally on a cast iron griddle, but we just got a charcoal grill, so hoping to get some done out there soon.

Last year I was given a gift card to use at my local butcher shop. I had seen your suggestion of seasoning steaks with coffee and thought to try giving it a shot. I cooked it in the oven and followed up with a reverse sear in a cast iron pan along w/ butter, several crushed garlic cloves and a few sprigs of rosemary. It was terrific. I tend to always think “Grill!” when I cook steak as it easier. And I usually toss some veggies on there, too. Furthermore, this allows me to have the oven free to roast some potatoes and/or broccoli. We have a GE oven that has an air fryer feature that we often use, but I’ve not thought to try it when cooking steaks. My wife will tend the sides in the oven, while I man the grill. But on the really hot days-like we’re in the midst of now-I’d rather cook everything out on the grill and not use the oven at all in an attempt to not heat up our kitchen.
