    How do you love rap when rap doesn’t love you back? From Rico Nasty’s harassment from toxic Carti fans, to Saucy Santana's unapologetically femme aesthetics in a queerphobic industry, to the assault case that put Megan Thee Stallion’s entire image on trial, each episode of Louder Than A Riot - the second season of our investigative hip-hop podcast - unpacks the unspoken rules of rap that hold the entire culture back. Tap in to our first episode at n.pr/louder-season-2.

    I literally do not know how she can sing Motion Sickness every time. Writing a song that reminds you of the abuse of an ex-loved one (especially emotional abuse) is one thing, but to it to become such a hit as a great song and having to perform it over and over....

    Really glad that Ryan Adams got called out by all of the women, including Phoebe. The lyrics of Motion Sickness hit so much harder knowing more of the details that have come out, and she even introduces the song by saying "This song is when you are in love with someone who is really mean to you"

    • @GhostlyJorg
      @GhostlyJorg 5 років тому +26

      I like the song, but Phoebe shouldn't have dragged the guy in interviews with his name, unless she wanted to pursue some kind of sexual misconduct case. If she didn't want the relationship she shouldn't have started it or kept it going - don't involve fans

    • @Cherrie435
      @Cherrie435 5 років тому +798

      @@GhostlyJorg what you're implying here is that sexual misconduct is the ONLY punishable behavior he had, and that she should just have kept her mouth shut and be quiet about ALL the other things that he did such as being emotionally abusive and manipulative, things that are also very wrong in my opinion. Besides, you know thats incredibly hard for women to get justice in cases like this, right? sometimes things like that are the only effective way to get somewhat of a real reparation.

    • @GhostlyJorg
      @GhostlyJorg 5 років тому +23

      @@Cherrie435 "Besides, you know thats incredibly hard for women to get justice in cases like this, right?" - well, maybe that's the problem, then. Although I never heard any actionable accusations from the "case" as you call it.
      I would say most people in this world have felt badly treated in a relationship at some point, and a lot have tried being emotionally abused. What we do is to extract ourselves from that relationship, suck it up and move on. It's hard, but life's not always easy. Maybe you warn other people in private if the situation warrants it. But going public like this is not cool. You open up to a situation where people are getting maligned by crazy amounts of people with no relation or knowlegde about the situation.
      One could probably say that Phoebe got a lot out of that relationship, that prevented her from ending it when she should have. - But now I'm speculating about other people's relationship, that we know nothing about, and frankly I don't want to think about Ryan Adams when I hear that song... Leave us out of it

    • @GhostlyJorg
      @GhostlyJorg 5 років тому +26

      @@MadelaineRain Yeah, see. This is what I am talking about. You are one out of thousands of fans that got revved up and acts with completely unearned certainty about a situation that none of us have a single clue about. Unless you define 'abusive behaviour' to be when something is done to someone that makes them feel bad. Which (do I have to tell you?) is truly insulting to people who actually have suffered abuse

    Phoebe performed on Saturday Night Live, February 6, 2021. Like millennials say, l was shook by that performance. I started learning about her music and her two years ago, thanks to a you tube channel content creator, I subscribed to 3 years ago by an unknown singer songwriter living in GA.
    I’m slowing learning about Phoebe Bridgers. Tonight is is Grammy Awards. Phoebe was a recent Grammy nominee for Best New Artist. I don’t know if she won.
    This tiny desk concert was very nice. ❤❤👏👏👏👏👏

    I hate you for what you did
    And I miss you like a little kid
    I faked it every time, but that's alright
    I can hardly feel anything
    I hardly feel anything at all
    You gave me fifteen hundred
    To see your hypnotherapist
    I only went one time, you let it slide
    Fell on hard times a year ago
    Was hoping you would let it go and you did
    I have emotional motion sickness
    Somebody roll the windows down
    There are no words in the English language
    I could scream to drown you out
    I'm on the outside looking through
    You're throwing rocks around your room
    And while you're bleeding on your back in the glass
    I'll be glad that I made it out
    And sorry that it all went down like it did
    I have emotional motion sickness
    Somebody roll the windows down
    There are no words in the English language
    I could scream to drown you out
    And why do you sing with an English accent?
    I guess it's too late to change it now
    You know I'm never gonna let you have it
    But I will try to drown you out
    You said when you met me you were bored
    You said when you met me you were bored
    And you, you were in a band when I was born
    I have emotional motion sickness
    I try to stay clean and live without
    And I wanna know what would happen
    If I surrender to the sound
    Surrender to the sound

    I just discovered this amazing woman this very last night at late hours and felt something deep that somehow I recall feeling in my childhood when listening to Suzanne Vega with my mom.
    There is a special kind of self-awared beauty that floats in her voice that, as the verses go, seems to acknowledge the great loneliness that such purity implies, and suddenly turns the song into a lonesome, delicate and unwitting divagation, and the self-awareness into a darkly sweet self-rejection.
    I think that if I ever met this person I would never be able to step away from her side.
