Same here. My boyfriend is catholic and after 10 years I’ve decided to explore this part of him. Father Mike has brought lots is spirited conversations to our relationship.
I have to say, when I first watched this it was around 5AM and I couldn't sleep so I went on my UA-cam and this was in my subscriptions so I watched it. And then when it was over, it was completely and utterly silent and it was sunrise. It was such an amazing experience, it's hard for me to describe.
The idea of "silence magnifies" makes me think of Mary... She says so little in the bible, yet everything she does directs us to her son. Through her silence, He is magnified and our attention shifts to Him. The soul of the Theotokos ("God bearer") proclaims the greatness of the Lord by choosing to be silent and instead lets Him speak to us.
Hi guys, I am a Muslim and I love Mike Schmitz! I have OCD, so when I pray I have to be silent right? So I am focused on not the thinking about those anxious thoughts. But that obviously leads me to getting them. But when he said to leave them with God. That really hit me! I always watch his videos because he is amazing. I love all my Christian brothers and sisters. We are all the same. God/Allah bless us all. Ameen.
We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls...
A-men. I love going to adoration... Especially when life is hard. I wish more people would be silent before and after Mass. That would magnify His holiness inside us.
I absolutely LOVE those quiet moments in the church when I get there very early for mass (on purpose). The lights are still low. It's totally quiet. The stained glass is so beautiful. It always smells so good, like incense, in the church. It is indescribable how peaceful and close to God I feel in those moments. Then, the lights turn on and people come in and start talking before mass. They need to understand that this time and space is sacred and not for conversation. 🙏
In silence God reveals Himself to us... AND US TO US! 😳 WOW! So profound. We need to invite God in the emotions we are experiencing ie. anger, lust, fear. Wow! Thank you Fr. Mike.
Sometimes silence is what it takes to open our hearts to God and allow him to come into our lives. I took a new job away from my family and friends and found myself hours of silence often. What begin during these silent periods led to my conversion, and I’m now living the best days of my life.
Today I will add silence to my life. Today I will exercise my right to learn from my silence. Today I will find comfort in the uncomfortable. Thank you Fr. Mike.. and GOD Bless you and these posts!
Sometimes I wish I was a mystic, but I guess this video is God's way of telling me that I don't need to be a mystic, or even hear His voice for that matter, in order to hear what He wants to tell me in the present moment.
In music, we have ritardandos and fermatas and rests. Well, sometimes, there's a rest under a fermata after a ritardando, and the silence is thunderous.I once found myself before the Blessed Sacrament completely alone. Overwhelmed by my own thoughts, I wanted to sob but couldn't break the blessed silence. God is awesome, and may He bless you, Father.
Watching this after two days of telling my mother I need the phone to fill in the silence (listening to music or watching UA-cam) while I clean my room is revealing
Wow. Your words, Fr. Mike, always hit to me spot on! It pierces through my heart. The Holy Spirit is so in you. Thanks, Fr. Mike! *avid fan of Ascencion Presents from the Philippines :)
The hallow app has truly helped me and it guided me back to this video. Thank you so much father. I pray that people download that app because it’s truly made my faith grow and God is healing me through my grief. God bless you father. 🙏🤍
its true! I finally was able to be silent. It comes randomly, but, i realised that i either get an idea, see myself, or start to oray. Its very peaceful.
"Silence reveals us to ourselves." That is such a profound statement. I know it to be true, and I am grateful to God for providing me with long moments of silence to surface what is in me that needs to be purged from me. Thank you, Fr. Mike.
JST like I Get Told I'm JST TO Silent But When I Do Something For Someone, They ALL Become Silent. GOD Bless You Father Mike and Everyone who Listens. ☝️💯💯✌️
**Story time** I was laying down in my bed and my phone was open to youtube. I wasn't watching anything, but had my phone screen on just for the extra light in my room since it was late. I put my phone next to me on my pillow. I was laying down with my arms crossed underneath my head. I was thinking about being alone in silence because I remember watching another video Fr. Mike did mentioning that topic. I don't know how, but my phone must of slipped off my pillow next to me and this video started playing, no joke. I don't know how it came across this particular video, but maybe it clicked on my recommendations when it slipped off my pillow cover. Either way, I felt like it was God giving me a sign. I started praying while listening to this and a bit after asking God to take all my burdens and sin and help me face them... Ascension Presents is one of the things I needed in life, but never knew it til later. I'm so grateful to this channel and all those who participate on it. Thank you ❤ ✝️
Fr Mike the Holy Spirit brings so much joy to us through your amazing personality. Thank you for using this wonderful gift to bring God to us in such a delightful way. You give me strength as a Sacrament Coordinator and Catechist to gently teach others about our amazing God and His Church. Don't ever change, I continually recommend your clips to the people in the 2 parishes I work in; you are very loved and appreciated by many people downunder in Australia... you say it how it is in a straightforward way...Thank you.....and may God keep you close to His heart :)
I have just returned from a Buddhist retreat, where silence and meditation were expected of all participants. It took me while to get into the rhyam of waking early and joining others in silence for that first half hour of the day. Some of us had not even cleaned our teeth, but I reasoned God would not mind, he was just waiting to spend this time with me. As a Christian I used this time to pray and to feel closer to the Lord, to sit and just be, rather than constantly doing. It takes discipline and dedication to find the inner peace that comes from the Lord, but oh it is so worth it.
I recently read the book 'The Power of Silence: Against the Dictatorship of Noise' by by Robert Cardinal Sarah with Nicolas Diat. The modern world is too noisy. Also our services. Sarah talks about the strength of silence and he seeks to restore to silence its place of honor and importance. "Silence is more important than any other human work". The parish I go do has the old Latin Mass and I love the periods of silence. I need to get to the church early so I can have that silence in prayer. Throughout the Mass there are nice periods of silence. There could be more. Thanks Fr Mike Schmitz. You could easily do another video on this important topic.
Best Sunday mass ever. I really prayed today. From your instruction. Been Catholic for 49 years. Love Christ. Submit my life to Him. Prayed less for me and more in ways I never had. Thank you Father.
Silence is God's only language. God does not speak in words. Words are dualistic, material, and temporary. Silence is infinite and singular, thus the sound of God. I completely agree with everything said here. We are uncomfortable in silence because it reveals within us that which is uncomfortable. Sitting in silence is very difficult at first, but after a while it turns to bliss. Only in silence can we actually FEEL emotions. Most people think they are feeling emotions, but what they're really feeling is the resistance to the emotions. Pure emotion is not painful. It does not hurt. Only the resistance hurts. And we resist with judgement and distractions. Great talk, father.
I love silence. I no longer listen to the radio or cds in my car, I cook in silence, I clean in silence, I can sit for hours on my back porch watching the birds, squirrels, and cats in silence. I don't understand these people who drive around with the music so loud it can be heard in a closed up house and wish I could magically make their systems quiet. Silence is golden.
silence is really experiencing the supernatural nature of God, we can not touch or scientifically show it is real. It is the complete absence of sound, and what was before the earth and creation were something.
I needed this video back in July. Twice I had to leave the Adoration Chapel because I had all of these thoughts and emotions. The harder I tried to pray the stronger the thoughts and emotions became. I thought my sins had invited the devil into the Chapel. Now I understand. It was God revealing me to myself. I now know what I need to pray for.
God’s First Language is “Silence”!!!! ❤❤❤ Thats why I LOVE the adoration chapel!!! ❤❤❤ I don’t think silence is boredom tho when younger I may believe so not realizing the significance. My mom would always say when I was little in my response to Im bored- would you like me to give you something to do? I quickly found something to do on my own as otherwise my mom would give me some house duty like cleaning- no thank you- Im no longer bored- I will go play which was always imagination then as no computers and nothing good on tv. Now, kids live in a different world always immersed in media and technology sadly.
I am reading Cardinal Robert Sarah's book The Power of Silence. I love the book. It is peaceful and calming and beautiful. It us beautifully written. So peaceful. I highly recommend it. I hope Cardinal Sarah will be our next Pope. Please God.
Another criticism from people is they think your lazy because they don’t see you actively participating in anything. They have nooo idea it’s the most exciting thing in this world. When I retired early to care for my husband, cohorts said “we’ll what will you do all day?” The first thing that fell out of my mouth was, Think. Now I have hours each day of thinking & being silent. No other time in my wonderful, lovely life (because of family) have I ever been happier. It’s communion with God and His works. It’s awe, inspiring and I can’t help but giggle to know He actually enjoys me. Holy Cow! He enjoys me?! Go figure.
checked here !!!! talk with God in silence, our most intimate pains, secrets and plans is the most effective, so that in silence nobody can sabotage your plans or your weaknesses. I have listened to mystic Catholics that The devil can not know your thoughts, that is why silence is better and that your best confidant is God in silence and in confession with the Priest...
That's what this preoccupation with cell phones do. They take away any spare time for contemplation or prayer. Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God". My mother used to say.."Oh so you're bored? Here's a job you can do".
Centering prayer is a beautifu, useful way to bring you mind and spirit into a silence that makes room for God. Told to choose a word, I chose "Yeshua" and when the storm of distracting thoughts come into my head, I think or whisper my word and think of Him. I takes practice, but it works. Yes, it is meditation, but it is a centering on God not only of the mind but of the heart. That makes it a prayer and wonderful things can happen in prayer.

This video has just shed a lot of light into my dilemma I have been thinking about recently. When I was in front the blessed sacrament the other day, I realized a bunch of stuff about myself, I became a little upset, and these feelings at the same drove me away from the blessed sacrament, and yet I was interested in knowing more, because pieces started to fall in their place. Then I when I was outside on my roller blades, I attempted to revive those unpleasant, yet important feelings or matter, and I could not even though I wanted to. So I was fascinated by the power of the sacrament and by my inability to deal with my own heart without the real presence of the Lord. After watching this, it is perfectly clear why. Silence. It was not silent while I was outside, neither was it "boring". I guess that boredom, having something to fight against, is necessary when trying to become focused. So thank you Fr. Mike ...I love each and every one of your videos.
"So many of us spend too much time distracting ourselves - even in prayer- so we tell God the things we think He wants to hear". *Kaplow!*, mind blown. That was one holy mind blower, Father. I really need time to digest this.
I too do lots of silence prayers. I love it the most ,then pray in words. And I like to be silent in most of weird things and hells people around doing ,talking, planning, advising all bad wrong ways and things with I undestanding and not undestanding.
Silence guided me to talk to God more deeper and to appreciate Gods creation and things that I didn't notice before. Please pray for me as I discern for a contemplative life.
Fr. Mike, please send this message to every American Novus Ordo parish. When I've brought up the jibber jabber before and after Mass, I was told that's fellowship! 🤦
You NAILED IT ! Silence is than my best True self/friend expose, magnify brought to the surface. My job than is to give it offer it up to GOD. Fr Mike THANK you😚
I've noticed a trend at Mass that this reminds me of. Before Mass, we come in and kneel and try to quiet ourselves to prepare for mass and the organist/ pianist will start banging away, making it almost impossible to focus. During the presentation of the gifts, the organist will keep playing long after the verses are done until our priest finally "interrupts" them so as to continue with Mass. Then we sing during communion, and if, by chance, the song finishes and we have a moment of silence to pray, they do a solo. I'm thankful that we have musicians that give generously of their time and talents but wonder if we should have quiet time during those moments. Thanks for doing these videos. I've learned so much from them, as well as my husband and children.
I'm in a music ministry that has been doing the same thing as of late: over the last couple of years, we have been lengthening and/or adding music to the point of nearly no silence during the Mass. This change came from somewhere higher up - be it the pastor or the parish council. In either case, the pastor would know where the change originated. I suggest reaching out to your pastor to see why the changes were made, thank him for the insight, pray on the explanation, then, if you feel called, speak with him again and request the music be tempered. God bless!
I call it daydreaming. I don’t care to be “woken up” from it. Thinking by myself has always been one of my guiltiest pleasures. Sometimes I’m taking to God. Sometimes my mind is only floating. People see me with ‘that look’ on my face and all through my life feel the need to ask if I’m ok. Yes! Im ok! I’m having the time of my life...please don’t interrupt me! 😊😊😊 Two out of three of my children have the skill also; one boy one girl.
I know that silence can help me focus on the task at hand (prayer, work, house tasks), but it also makes me think about all my deceased loved ones especially my wonderful husband. This seems to drive me right to "the funny farm". That's my reason for having a little noise.
So great to hear. Praise God that the Holy Spirit is working through these videos. Keep practicing silence. We need people of contemplation! God bless you.
This reminds me of the first time I visited St Michaels Abbey in Silverado Canyon... the silence there among the gardens and in the church was beautiful peaceful and inspiring. It is hard to be silent because it says hey you’re alone you are by yourself... but it’s true when I sit silent some of my greatest thoughts come to the surface. Our lives are too overwhelmed by gadgets and noise. Silence is Golden that’s why we pray in silence to hear God in the silence of our minds. Thank you for this. In my bible study group we are studying a Catholics book called Walking With. Purpose by Lisa Brennickmeyer she talks about distraction as a mother of seven children. It’s opened my eyes to see the importance of silence as a reverent time of prayer but as a time to just be still to just be... and listen for our Lord in heaven.
I found this to be an amazing video, because it rang so true. Thank you Fr Schmitz! Thank you for all of your wonderful videos that dig into so many important topics in life!
Been binge-watching you all day, every video is just well-put and fluently explained. I can't even pick my favorite, all of them are! Thank God for this!
Thank You, Fr Mike. I am escaping silence because of so many things I would have to solve:) Good that we are not left alone with our monsters, that come to the surface while remaining silent... Holy Spirit, please be with us in our silent battles.
Excellent reflection, sad that in Europe, birth of so many catholic reflections and grow, we are living on a dead faith and on the noise of society. Glory to God.
Once again, thank you Fr. Mike for your priesthood and sharing your wisdom on a most important “virtue” - silence. You make my day/night brighter. God bless you.
Fr. Mike, you are so entertaining to watch... your fearlessness to be YOU--whether through fast talk, many facial expressions...you find a way to get the point across! It's hard to believe silence is your friend because of your energy...but I dare say, SILENCE must be a part of who you are--for it is the only reason why and how you are able to provide such pearls of wisdom. Silence and meditation must be your source of light and grace!
A man joined a monastery and took a vow of silence. He was permitted to say two words once a year. First year, he said, "Bed hard." Second year he said, "Food horrible." Third year he said, "I quit." The abbott replied, "It doesn't surprise me. All you have done since you arrived is complain."
You literally stole my joke 😄

That's a good video! We do need to shut ourselves up and be still. Psalm 46: 10 says it right, "Be still and know that I am God."

and just saying 'exactly' what I need to hear!
Mike ...I love each and every one of your videos.
jesus spoke to me/saved me in a routine i had set up when i was sitting in silnce
Fr Mike THANK you😚
Greetings from croatia God Bless🙏❤
Think about this
The silence of Christ during crucifixion
God bless!
Needed this. Fr. Mike, you're awesome!
Thankful for a beautiful ministry. I'm not a Catholic but recieve so much revelation from all of this😊🦋💎🔥🙌
Such a simple idea with a huge impact, incredible. Thank you for this valuable message! Now to put this into practice
I look forward to silence because my days can be so crazy. It's like going home :). Great topic!
I know that silence can help me focus on the task at hand (prayer, work, house tasks), but it also makes me think about all my deceased loved ones especially my wonderful husband. This seems to drive me right to "the funny farm". That's my reason for having a little noise.
WOW, even for someone who practices these times of silence, I've NEVER looked at silence from this perspective.
So great to hear. Praise God that the Holy Spirit is working through these videos.
Keep practicing silence. We need people of contemplation! God bless you.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is exactly what silence does. Or another words, why do we need a daily prayer time? THIS IS WHY!!!!! I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!
awesome...
Never thought of Silence this way though but have always enjoyed a few minutes of quietness
Your face is the best!
It is such a pretty face
Not the foremost thing one should see in a priest...
Monique Ocampo if you’re talking about his facial expressions at the beginning yea haha they were funny 😅
Yes
JN Lafon chill out
Been binge-watching you all day, every video is just well-put and fluently explained. I can't even pick my favorite, all of them are! Thank God for this!
This is me 100 % and FINALLY explained!!! THANK YOU!
Thank You, Fr Mike. I am escaping silence because of so many things I would have to solve:) Good that we are not left alone with our monsters, that come to the surface while remaining silent... Holy Spirit, please be with us in our silent battles.
When was the last time? Yesterday, the day before & before that day. A great gift. As you said, the magnifier.
The invitation! I love the reminder to invite God into our time of silence!
I love this message. Time to stop telling God and start listening. Awesome! 🙏 But Fr. Mike, your face in the beginning cracked me up!!!!😂
Excellent reflection, sad that in Europe, birth of so many catholic reflections and grow, we are living on a dead faith and on the noise of society. Glory to God.
Once again, thank you Fr. Mike for your priesthood and sharing your wisdom on a most important “virtue” - silence. You make my day/night brighter. God bless you.
I thank you for your message I am a new watcher as of this year
Love to listen to you Daily
