..."To busy scrolling through, and watching someone else life..." instead of living the life God has given to me. That hit me hard and is something I will be thinking about from now on.

Many times we distract ourselves because we want to escape our reality, the tough things in our lives that we don't want to face or accept.

I am like this, though getting better. I find that if you ask God for help somehow reality is easier to accept and the end result is better than if I was distracting myself or numbed out with some repetitive activity. It's not something you were expected to do alone in the first place. God can work through the most surprising ways but He can't show up to help if you're "hiding".

lalaithan Thank you for your encouraging words! It makes a lot of sense.. and it really takes courage to choose to face things. Nothing changes if nothing changes. God will sees us through everything. Will keep you in my prayers.

Exactly. Exactly. Thank you Fr. Mike. Let’s be clear, for the sake of justice and your humility: I’m not praising you so please keep striving because you’ve got a road ahead which is necessary and demanding as mine. But I’m thanking you and praising God because you say yes to His intent to touch all our hearts with what we need the most. So, thank you. And keep working. You’re helping me Fr. Mike, and I’m going to help you in return: by treasuring this wonderful truth I received through this video and applying it in my life the best I can. We’re all one Body! Regnare Christum volemus!

Oh my hat I'm at 11pm and some........ Apart from not having my beloved husband anymore, I'm actually having a ball. On Sunday I went to Mass then later five friends and I went along the coast to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. On Monday I picked up a friend in town at the bus station and took her to her home. On Tuesday we had a home Mass and lunch at the home of the chairperson of our Women's Group. On Wednesday I drove 15 kms to pick up friend and bring her to Church for Bible Study. Did shopping on the way home. Thursday I'm taking another friend to hospital in the next town for x-rays. On Friday there is choir practice. In the afternoon I have to make three desserts for the Food Festival to be held on Saturday in the Convent grounds. I'm booked to do a 90 min stint selling pudding on Saturday morning. Today many seniors are still able to live full and productive lives. God bless you Fr Mike. Even though I'm an old person I always learn something from your videos.

I probably have 7, maybe up to 10 years left. 10 years will make me 76. Loneliness is a terrible thing, so I don't watch TV. I read, study, pray, and pray some more, since few people visit except my caregivers. Time moves slowly, and yet I'm dying. Avoiding TV makes the time last longer.

During my career, an executive coach I met at a management class said that amidst everything that was urgent, we needed to make time for what was truly important. I never forgot it. One day, with a meeting to prepare for and several performance appraisals to write and various e-mails to answer, I spent half an hour leaning against the wall in the hallway talking quietly with a very junior, young employee in my group who had just gotten home from burying her brother. There was no contest, no question--that was by far the most meaningful part of that day. In retirement I am doing a lot of volunteering...all good, but I'm still seeking the focus for this part of my life.

I got my Facebook account in 2011 and decided to keep it as a means on evangelization... but even though I used it for something good, it did steal much of my time-- much of my family time--- my kid's time... about 4-5 months ago, after much discernment and prayer, I decided to keep away from it... God was calling me to silence-- to reflect upon my own life. Thanks to that, I was able to realize how many people in my "personal" life need to be evangelized. I was trying to preach to many people I don't know, but was failing to preach to those who God gave me-- to those who do know me.
I worried too much about not being fruitful for God's Glory... but God called me to be fruitful where He put me--- with my family members, in my church, in my community-- even if it was just for one person--- God wants that "just one" person.
So, here I am--- focusing on my family more, getting a little more involved in my parish, and trying to do one thing at a time, one day at a time.... and, I still have a long way to go, but for some reason I think I have been more productive now than in those 7-8 years "evangelizing" through Facebook.
I just want to do God's Divine Will for me... please pray for me😑😑😑🙏🙏🙏

Imagine each distraction as a grain of sand, and each mortal sin as a rock. Nobody likes to get hit by rocks so people might be more careful about them. But people don't mind a little bit of sand, and typically they shrug it off. But nobody wants to get hit by a 50lb bag of sand. Distractions aren't much on their own, but added together they will take a big chunk out of your time. God Bless you and I hope you continue making these videos.

I desperately needed this video! Thank you for your ministry. I have been so confused lately as to what God wants me to do with my time. I keep praying for a straightened pathway and a correct discernment. Also, it seems that everytime I receive a step forward, I end up experiencing a set back. Well, what seems like a setback anyway... I've watched your video on suffering and it's helped me as well, because I also have been dealing with the season of suffering for what seems like forever. I have recently graduated with my associates degree in English. I was supposed to be moving to a state university, and have instead been in bed for a week and a half fighting off another infection in my body for which I am currently on antibiotics. I'm not sure of what his plan is for my life. I am constantly offering up my illnesses for those in need of salvation. I also have such a connection with the story of Job because of this pattern in my life. What I've learned most from that story is that it was never about the restoration of Job's circumstances, but rather the building of fully trusting in God regardless of the circumstances. I have so many dreams, ideas, and visions that in my heart I feel would bring enlightenment to others and glory to God. I just keep praying that these line up to his will for my life, and that my time here on earth can be used for this purpose instead of being in bed sick and trolling the internet. Again thank you for your ministry and God bless you Father!

I pray your season gets better. As someone who knows full well the meaning of knowing what Job went through ,like you. We have to keep praying. Find peace in the middle of the suffering. That will be far more beneficial than no struggle at all. We live in a fallen world after all. It’s hard to crawl up on that cross with Christ. Wish it on no one. I do pray for Gods mercy for you and healing. God bless.

@@leonardstefanyshyn40 thank you so much for this reply. I greatly appreciate it. All I have is my faith, and with every struggle I do become stronger of course. However, it's tiring for sure, physically mostly. Especially when all I would love is the ability to act for his glory in this messed up world. The fact that I know there's a purpose for everything is plenty reason for me to keep going. Even if God chooses to not heal me at all in this life. Thank you again for your acknowledgement and prayers.

I was just pondering on what is my purpose in life and how can I be more productive with my time and came across this video. I have been wanting a change in my life and career. Currently decorate cakes and while I love doing it I feel like my time could be spent doing something more worthwhile. I have been contemplating trying to get a job at a retirement home for a few weeks now. I would love to be able to spend time with the elderly that may be lonely or in need of a person to talk to. When you mentioned nursing homes and spending time with the elderly I just couldn’t help but feel like God was tapping on the shoulder with this message. Thank you for all the videos, they have helped guide me through my season of change, God bless! ❤️🙏🏻

As a working mother of two I instantly responded "What?! It's already three?!" Wow, I heard that one loud and clear 🤣 . Three is that special time of day when you realize your morning really mattered and what you do with your remaining time will make or break the productivity of the day. You're no longer too comfortable. It's well past noon and you're approaching supper time, which is right before bed.

This really makes me realise I need to seize the moment and do what I have to do! For example I was putting off going my gardening and finding other things to do to distract myself, but this past weekend I did it and I feel so much better. But it is a constant battle to avoid distractions and do what is really important. My grandfather is now past the 11PM mark, and that makes me realise how much I want to do with my life before I get there, and how I will need to strive to get there, but with God's help I most certainly will. Thank you Father Mike, you truly are a gift from God.

Thanks, Fr. Mike. Timely video. Five years into retirement this is a question that is much on my mind (It’s about 10:30 PM in my life). About 12 years ago, I asked God what I should be doing, and he told me it was time to say something profound. I told Him He had to be kidding. Despite that particular directive, the question seems to keep echoing back to me.

Father Mike Schmitz you are pretty much the coolest priest on earth right now besides the Pope. Mainly because you speak in a clear and modern way. Previously your funky way of talking would probably be frowned upon by many priests. The young generations will be able to relate to the way you speak. Hence why so many young people are gravitating towards Evangelical churches. However I have to say one thing that I think you should try is slow down with the way you talk. I am a University graduate in English who now works as a Teacher and worked overseas teaching English. I keep thinking of all the people who maybe are not fluent English speakers and would love to listen to these mini presentations. Being a teacher I am very conscious of the pace of my speech. I know Americans speak quickly but just bear in mind your broader audience. You have a lot of great things to say to so many beyond English speaking Americans. Thanks, The English Speaking Australian Teacher.
