Why 24mm is Terrible For Vlogs

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- What's the best focal length for vlogging or filming yourself for youtube? A lot of people get stuck with 24mm on the wide end, because cameras like the Sony rx100IV and Canon G7Xii only go that wide. But it's not a great focal length for vlogging. Let's find out why together and test a bunch of different focal lengths using the Sony a9 with 16-35mm f2.8 gmaster lens, with special appearances from the Panasonic G85 with Mitakon 25mm f.0.95 with wide angle converter, and the beloved Sony x3000 ;)

Just purchased my 6 DII, precaite your tips!
Edit: Siiike!
Dude just buy a Hero 7 Go Pro your blur chasing is silly for vlogging!.
@@stephengatley8144 I already have the superior x3000 ;) I don't want a blurry background for vlogs, just for the sit down videos.
dude, you already have a top 5 video camera in the G85. Also you're wide angle converter made the mitakon a 23mm ff equivalent, but i guess it could of been about 26mm if it was exaggerating!! But your way off with your 38mm guess. And i must say, the video quality and softness is barely noticeable and just enhances the softening that you love with the mitakon. Honestly, you have probably the best bang for buck vlogging camera available. It actually has more features than some of its quadruple priced competitors. the G7/G85 is used by filmmakers all over the world to great effect. Have pride in your excellent decision making, stick with the G85, and maybe buy/rent some different glass for it. I think you'd be surprised just how good/usable the auto focus actually is.
Where are the links for your theme song(s) -- I would play those through my headphones at work continuously -- especially at meetings!!!! Love it!
lol I don't even need a camera I'm just here for the laughs!
I hope there will never be a perfect camera so we continue to get videos like this.
"It's not overexposed when it's in black and white" is my new motto
Yeah, the Sony X3000 is hard to beat for vlogging - small, light, stabilized, discreet, good audio plus external mic jack, and inexpensive. Only minor issues is the slight fish-eye look but more for your channel to see, and doesn't handle low light or sun over the shoulder very well. No blurry background but again gives your viewers something interesting to look at. Also hard to beat your Panasonic G85 for overall performance and price with the right lense. Kasey, I really really really ~ did I say really? highly rate your judgement and camera advice ~ keep them videos coming keep guilting all the camera manufacturers into getting their builds right with flippy screen etc...
"I'm still here." LOL...
Lenses should come with flippy screens
Lol! 😂
Awesome vid. “I’ll muffle your dog…then you’ll learn” 😂
Ok everyone, we can all say we were subbed before this guy blew up.
Darn you!!! I’m over here at one of my besties’ wedding reception watching your video!!! WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYY?!!!! Why are your videos so addicting?! * scratches neck*
One day, like the cowardly lion, you will realize that you had it all along. But instead of courage, it is the G85.
7:05 -7:12 ~ Back to our regularly scheduled program..... (head duck - new clip) ... I'm still here... Hilarious!!!
DUDE YOU'RE HILARIOUS. Came here to decide which lens to use - just enjoying the content now haha
I am not a vlogger nor am I interested in vlogging but I was researching camera lenses and somehow got here. Now I'm watching until the end because the humor is on point hahaha.
best part of b&w is no worries about ND color cast
This guy is hilarious. You seem so chilled with that not give a fuck attitutde
I must say this is the best channel in the world, period!
Omg the intro alone deserves a sub 😂
Anyone watching this just because this guy is so much banter
Ahh. Black and white. How artistic of you. 😉
I had no idea Vegetable Police had a channel solely devoted to cameras.
Today is a good day. A very good day.
'Well, you've decided to share your incredibly boring life with the world. Congratulations.' I feel that should be shown to every vlogger when they upload their first video.
"If I decided to crouch down and pee in it." - Genius!
I just....smile....as I watch your videos. Great stuff!
Damn, your Panasonic looks better than the Sony 🤔
All i want is the perfect camera..all i want is the perfect caaameeeraaaa...
CC should do those intro tunes as ringtones. Gold.
That's my favorite version
😂 one of the funniest vlog styles i’ve ever seen.
Idk much/anything about cameras but I watch because you're funny as fuck. That intro had me quite literally rofl-ing
Peter Gregg just posted a video for you where he tests the Panasonic G9 for vlogging.
just 20% into my first video on this channel and i think i found my favourite camera gear reviewer
What’s a good focal length for a T-Rex vlogger?
4mm.
Cheap Charlie Chronicles, 3.1415mm f/2.71
This guy is funny as hell ....John Wayne meets mr Rodgers lmfao
Greetings from Melbourne mate. I love your videos. You give great reviews and tips and I get a comedy show to boot. Thumbs up mate.
OMG, I died laughing. the way he said " I wanted the blurrrrry Background, LET ME HAVE IT" .....LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Love the G9 with Panasonic 8-18mm F2.8-4 for vlogging, the Olympus 7-14mm F2.8 is a too heavy :/ And yes, the G9's AF is on par with that of the GH5s in Peter Greg's video ;)
Is this a conspiracy my battery lost 10% watching that white out.
My favorite: peeing into the pool after telling that the battery ran out...
18-21mm full frame. You should try the CV 21mm f3.5 or batis 18
"Neutral Density Filter" a must have for outdoor video with a fast lens.
OMG Potato Jet is wearing one of your t-shirts
I actually took away more than what this video offered and thats your honesty and style. I appreciate this because its more natural and pushes me to accepting that its "ok and it works" to make videos like this. Good shit, man.
love this video, trying to figure out which length to use for my home made vlogs, keep up the great work!
Lol that intro 🤣🤣🤣
Dude you are awesome. I literally laugh out loud when I see you. Content is strong but not as strong as your delivery! 1m subs by Dec 2019 . . .
The A9 works even better if you set it correctly, and paired with the Zeiss 18mm is almost as good as the latest Gopro
Really help me to choose camera and lens !Thanks a lot!
"It's too tight. That's what he said" 😂 😂
Video quality is much better with g85. Dump that expensive sony junk.
Stabilization is that important ;)
@@cameraconspiracies if you had the G85 with the Laowa 7.5mm lens and IBIS with Digital Stabalisation on, what focal length would that be equivalent too? I'm too dumb to work it out
@@gamingwine6753 Times 2 lol. 15mm. 15.6mm with electronic stabilization, and 17.15mm with estab in 4k.
I think the Batis 18mm would be good. It is also very light.
35mm is great to film but 24mm is just my absolute favorite.
Why not just film at a 16mm and then zoom in a bit while video editing.
the way you are as a human being kinda creeps me out ,, but yet i still watch all your videos ,, keep up the work bro :)
You crack me up every time! So good.
So what are you gonna talk about when you finally have the perfect vlogging camera?
@Daniel Spaniel Then maybe a tripod and a gimbal. All must have a flippy screen for sure.
The lightweight Zeiss 16-35 F/4 OSS would be fine👌
"I'm still here" HAHA so funny!!
You’re a funny guy. Just got a 24mm / pancake lens. We’ll see how it goes.
One point and one question -- (Point -- like my head): The X3000 has a great FOV for vlogging, but *everything* is in focus, from your nose hairs to the buildings way in the background. That "look" is better for action-cam footage (and the X3000 is really an action cam), than for vlogging (stabilization is very good also). (Question -- answer is not 42): Why do you live in Thailand?
Kasey please make a video for beginners, i dont know anything.
I do Love the look of the 24mm but for my recent vlogs I’ve gone wider at 18mm which looks cool too. More immersive
howdy bloke,i just subscribed to a camera channel .I dont own a camera and have no intension of ever owning one he he he ,so you must be doing something very special to keep me hooked.Love your stuff mate-Keep it up-----
I wish I could subscribe to you a million times
time index 4:06 and 7:39 those facial expressions are the best. bruh I laughed so hard...lol
I don't like 10-18mm and 28mm, but 20-24mm is glorious ! I also got a quick tip for you, when you don't have a flip screen on your camera, you can actually flip the camera to see if your exposure and focus is good or not ! Mind blown I know ! Oh and *cough* ND filters :p
You hit the nail on the head. I just bought the Canon sx740hs and it's not wide enough for vlogging. For me, 18mm would be perfect.
SX60 is 21mm ;)
Are you talking about full frame cameras here ?
When you think bright and sunny, and you want blurry background, think ND! Think thick, dark, scary ND!
Get an variable ND filter, and use your phone to judge focus, exposure and framing.
0:46 and this is ironically probably one of the few properly exposed shots I've seen in your last 20 videos.
"You loser...you stopped up...you loser..." 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Congrats on getting a shout out with the shirt from Potato Jet. #props
Good info
To think I use to try vlogging 24mm on apsc.
Another great vid. I vote for 18mm. And if you go Sony I've got the Batis 18 f/2.8 and the damn thing is crazy good from wide open and crazy light too.
Hmm the Panasonic looked better than the Sony... man doesn’t this start to just hurt your brain to try and figure out what you should use. But the x3000 looks pretty damn good. Ugh it’s enough to drive you crazy...
Use a variable ND filter and keep dat f/2.8 man!
You have the unique ability to make any camera’s image look like absolute shit 😂💯
The Sony is definitely dreadful in my hands lol.
For fuss-free exposure, select Programme Mode in video and set ISO to auto. Set exposure compensation dial to zero.
Man if you ever decide on a camera or lens, just get yourself a Heliopan Vari-ND Filter. You will dial in the exposure in a second.
Why do you do it🎶🎵
just use exposure compensation. you don't need to up the f stop
I did.
Love this channel.
The 18-20 range does look good for this, though I know nothing about vlogging. Did like the 24 at arms length though because it feels a little less like invading your personal space. Maybe that’s just me; in life I don’t usually stand closer than arm’s length to someone (shy, farsighted or fear of pick-pocketers maybe). I would guess it is good to change up the focal lengths for variety. Interesting and funny vid, as always.
Wow! look at the wobbling on the Sony! Panasonic wins again!
Best humor ever.
I'm thinking of getting the adapter for the Sony 28mm f2 which makes it a 21mm f2.8 which should still give decent bokeh on full frame Sony A7iii. Have you considered that option?
It's definitely an option ;)
@@cameraconspiracies can't do nd filters tho with the adaptor. I have the 28 it's af is really fast tho
Or get an ND filter... then you can have blur... during the day.
Note to self:
Buy camera with a flip out screen (a must have)
Buy extra batteries
Buy external charger to charge extra batteries
Buy good shotgun mike so I don't touch it
Buy Sony X3000 as backup in case camera malfunctions
Scratch all this, just buy Sony X3000 as it works the best for vlogging
You crack me up man!! "I'm still here"
If Dave Chappelle was white 😂🤣😂
I have a GoPro 5 but want to add zoom capability to get long shots. Not doing private videos bit I am still posting 'friends and family' vs full 'for the public' channel videos so I would like to stay under $1,000usd for a setup. Do you have any recommendations for an all-in-one camera or do I need to move up from that? What is the lowest price range to do decent videos and have zoom? In your opinion of course.
If you know what you know now but went back a few years to when you started, what beginner/intermediate camera would you buy?
I'm going to do a quarantine montage vlog, yes, there will be house music in the background
get yourself an ND filter and snap it onto the lens for filming wide-open in sunlight
My favorite focal lengths are 24mm and 50mm.
Man, you are hilarious! thank you for educating me while giving a fun time. You are a rare breed of handy comedian, please don't stop.
I have always have been a way of all that vegan shit, and now I am following your channel, fasting and trying Keto.
Also genuinely worried you finishing your 21 days water fast.
Be safe, thumbs up, happy new year.
Is the Panasonic 8-18 usable?
It was ok ua-cam.com/video/UmNNo5JO8hI/v-deo.html
The 10-25 is going to be so heavy. There's no way it would meet your needs.
I know this video is kinda old but I'm wondering if that converter would be worth it on the kit lens of the m50, even if it isn't gonna give me the image quality of the 11-22mm lens, but just to have it a little bit wider
sorry, but at 16mm your ears seems to be tied together at the back of your head: it looks terrible! Also the stabilization of this A9 gives quite a jelly looking image...
24mm Seems like there's too much brightness in the background quite blinding lol. I believe a lot of movies are shot in 24mm.
Lav Mic needs a flippy screen, your bed needs flippy screen.
