I will say, however, that the quality of bokeh in your videos often reaches the point where I think to myself, "he could very well be filming at f5.6 in front of a green screen" because it looks so insanely unnatural, especially when combined with the higher frame rates. This is such a classic that came up in my recommendations. I do believe Tony watches this channel faithfully because he makes comments using terms like 3D pop that I’ve only heard here.
Tonys’s video would have been epic, it just needed a minimum of 75 megapixel to really show the true detail of the blur. When the bokeh is not sharp enough, is when it affects the central nervous system. NASA just released an article about this in their magazine called “space bokeh”

Thank you so much for your videos, they improve my mood hugely! I don't have those 1.2 lenses, just a 50 1.4 and 85 1.8, but I haven't had clients asking me to make the tip of their noses more blurry.
That's why you gotta get a f/0.95 TILT SHIFT lens as well, duh, you can hit a nose and one eye at the same time! Just hide the other eye by only ever doing semi profile portraits.
This is an expensive addiction. Sadly (in truth here) this can actually ruin some people's lives financially. I do believe that bokeh is a very important tool to soften a distracting background when it is distracting, but when removing the distraction is a distraction it's a detraction. Thank you so much for providing perspective on this subject. What you're doing is very appreciated😀

I'm really budget focused, and even so I've actually owned 2 (vintage) f/1.2 lenses and I didn't like using them wide open so I ended up shooting at 1.4 or less (I do admit it was mostly due to bad optics at 1.2, but I still didn't like the look). I DO have a use for f/1.4 lenses though, just not the crazy f/1.2.
I agree the fixation on blurry background with bokeh is often overdone in creators video. I would say to these people, "clean up your office space so you don't have to blur it out". (that was a joke:) Why do people pay incredible money for an F1.2 lens. When F1.4 or F1.8 is more than enough if you want it blurred. But when filming with a lake view go to F5.6 or F8 so you can show off your surroundings. I love to look at beautiful lakes! This video is on point. Tony got one thing right in your sample of him, on UA-cam nobody watches in 4K and filming in HD is perfectly fine. Some folks watch on big 50 to 60 inch TVs though, most don't and just use phones, tablets or laptops. Although I hear UA-cam is getting more watch time than many streaming networks in the last year, for family entertainment viewed on big TVs. A family would sit down together and watch longer format on UA-cam and some channels know this. Long format is getting more popular.
Don't know about anyone else, but half the enjoyment in watching videos outside is looking at all the things in the environment. It's interesting to see other countries surroundings, so don't blur them out..
Indeed this is what we need, here's my is my recipe, for Tony. 1 Get a Helios 44-2 58mm Lens 2 Glue Aperture ring to F4 3 Set focus to 1,5m or 5 feet as you know it. 4 Learn to stay put. 5 Learn to avoid Backlit conditions, because all contrast go away. Easy and requires no camera man :)

I asked the Microsoft Teams Support how they blur their background. They came back to me and said they were using Toneh 1.2. I was so relieved to hear that. So whenever I need that cheap looking shallow DOF, I make a Teams call now. And more importantly, thank you for all your great content! Keep up the good work!

I remember about 7 years ago when I was researching buying my first ever camera and I knew absolutely nothing whatsoever about photography/vidography. I almost didn't buy a dslr because every single example video I could find for a Canon 550D was shot with a shallow depth of field and almost everything was out of focus. People were so obsessed with bokeh that they never stopped down to show the image quality at different apertures, and so I thought that dslr's where solely for that shallow DOF look and that if I bought one then I couldn't have everything in focus. I came very close to buying GoPro instead because I at least knew a GoPro could be totally in focus.
I loved how he said they sold a lot of gear and now using Canon. And while talking about Canon's wonderful auto focus... I was watching the focus go in and out... :D
