I think this was a Hallmark decision for Elizabeth to be with Lucas in S8 not the writers 😕 JT was hired to write Lucas & Elizabeth as a couple to recon WCTH even though S6 S7 showed clearly Elizabeth had feelings for Nathan. I think for a couple of reasons HM did this. But in my opinion this was the former Hallmark CEO's decision to make the co-creators of WCTH get Elizabeth & Lucas together in S8. But the outcome was disastrous for HM as the demo numbers went way down in S9. If you notice the person who was the Hallmark CEO in S8 & S9 "stepped down" from that position....umm I personally think HM board made her step down. Then HM new CEO & WCTH co-creators let go of JT. Then hired LS + AM to break up Elizabeth & Lucas. Then get Elizabeth & Nathan in a romantic relationship. For one thing Kavan Smith (Lee) said WCTH was almost canceled after S9.
From the beginning to the end of season 9 with the arrival of Mai Sui, who I believe was created for Nathan. Everyone should go back and watch season 9 with Nathan and Mai Sui I could not understand the abrupt change in cause and then the whole Faith romantic storyline it seemed to me to writers were trying to see who was best suited to Nathan ? The writers were bouncing Nathan around ? It all makes sense given what Beverly has shared. It all could have been avoided if the Hallmark CEO had left the Elizabeth and Nathan love story alone.
@@carolynshaw9823 yes, the issue was political in my opinion because of the anti law enforcement attitude when S8 was being written in the US at the time. So, JT was trying to have Nathan in the background as much as possible per the former CEO's directions, in my opinion. It's also why Nathan didn't get any good mountie storylines in S9 which was unfair to a very talented actor, Kevin McGarry. This issue of one bad cop in the US affected Kevin's role as Constable Nathan Grant in my opinion even though mounties are supposed to be Canadian so to me the politics were annoying because they were not giving such a talented actor good scenes especially S9. Plus HM should have realized most law enforcement in real life are trying to do what is right working with integrity. Hearties would want the HV mounties Nathan and retired mountie Bill good lawmen. The type of mounties that go after bad or dirty lawmen.
I also think that the co-creators knew their fan base well and would not accept Lucas and Elizabeth together. But BB, ML Jr. had no choice if they wanted to keep their show. So they let time prove them right. That the majority of hearties wanted Nathan with Elizabeth. But I think the reason BB & Alfonso left and went to Great American Family with the Christmas there spin off show "When Hope Calls" Christmas movie after S1 on Hallmark was so HM couldn't do the same thing with "When Hope Calls" making the mountie less than not a main role so BB & Alfonso had "When Hope Calls" Christmas movie go to Great American Family. Then that got canceled pretty much because it wasn't strongly established and Covid19 hit shutting everything down in North America. So, at that point WHC's was affectively canceled. Now 2024, BB+ Alfonso is bringing WHC's season 2 back to Great American Family with some of the original cast, but alot of changes too. Probably because it's been so long they couldn't get the whole cast from S1 WHC's back. But I'm excited that Kevin McGarry's co-star from "Heartland" Cindy Busby (Ashley) will be on When Hope Calls S2.
Elizabeth and Nathan make each other think, make each other laugh, make each other cry, make each other feel and understand, inspire each other, annoy each other, and constantly express their love and admiration for each other in ways great and small.
