      Awesome! I will say that the passengers side it only took maybe 15/20 min to do the whole thing after I did the first one. Super easy and saved me $$$$.

    Thanks for the Video J, good job. What kind of symptoms led you to the Ball joint? I am having suspension/front end noise when going over bumps(replaced the stabilizer link and Strut assembly already on 2013 Kia Optima) and will be taking a closer look at Ball Joints and Engine mounts this weekend.

      Peter Babstock I had noise also when going over bumps and in my past experience, ball joints were very common issues so what I did what jack up the front end of the car until the tires cleared the ground. At that point I had someone use a pry bar and wedge it between the tire and the concrete and try to move the tire/wheel up and down while I watched from under the car and looking for play or slack in the ball joint. It’s really easy to spot. Hope this helps

      Hello gentlemen, can you give me a price quote on how much these repairs cost? Only maintenance I know is how to change a tire. Would I be better off having the dealer do it?

    Thanks for the great video J Golden. One question, how many miles did the Kia optima have at the time of the ball joint replacement?

    • @jmaverick
      @jmaverick  4 роки тому

      N S it had around 135k at that time.

    • @jmaverick
      @jmaverick  4 роки тому

      N S I just had the car on a friends lift a few days ago doing a transmission fluid change and inspected the ball joint again. The one I changed still looks brand new ( 20k miles later ) and the factory one on the other side it still good and tight, so my daughter probably hit a pot hole wrong or repeatedly is the only reason the factory one failed to begin with.

    • @jmaverick
      @jmaverick  4 роки тому

      N S wow! That’s a bummer, I’m surprised honestly but then again, who knows what company built those for that specific car and are others having the same issue? I know from past experience that manufacturers sometimes have several companies build the same part to ensure they have the parts when building cars, or atleast built in different locations. That specific part may have a higher failure rate than those from a different year. My car was a Korean built car, so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

    If you spread that lower clamp the ball joint would fall out

    I do not have an air hammer, so I'm hoping the two splined bolts will break free from the control arm using a short handled 4 lb drilling hammer. Not much swinging room though. Also, I am working on a 2011 Sedona, and the new joint does not come with the splined bolts. Do you think the old ones can be hammered out and resused?

    • @jmaverick
      @jmaverick  4 роки тому

      Michael Martis the old ones should be ok, be careful hammering them out. Take the nut and thread far enough on there that it’s flush with the nut and hammer out. I would try a few real hard hits first rather than multiple lighter hammer blows. Keep in mind... I am NOT a mechanic, but I do all my own work on our 4 cars and trucks. If it makes you feel better, spray those splined bolts down with a good penetrant and let it sit for atleast 30 min before hammering out. Any good penetrant works best after soaking for a while. Good Luck! You can do this!!!!!

      As it turns out, a local parts store sells a TRW joint with new splined bolts. So I will get that one. Still keeping my fingers crossed on hammering out joint out of the control arm. Thanks for the video! Very helpful.

      Michael Martis Awesome! Have you checked online for those parts at a better price? Check this site, I’ve been using their parts for several years and no issues. This is a link to 2011 Sedona suspension parts. Do both sides and more while your in there and get it aligned one time. www.1aauto.com/hyundai-entourage-kia-sedona-steering-and-suspension-kit-10-piece-set-trq/i/1asfk04641?f=1107020&y=2011

      Thanks. I'm aware of 1aauto (they have some good videos), but I need to get the van back in service quickly and wanted to source the part locally. In any event, unlike your experience, my pinch bolt did not slide out after removing the nut. It appears to be frozen to the knuckle. Any suggestions?

      @jmaverick  4 роки тому

      @@michaelm2573 I would definitely spray some PB Blaster or at minimum some WD-40, let it sit for a min of 30 min. Smack the bottom with a hammer several times to jar it real good. And then use a pry bar or anything you can find to try and pry it loose. You will probably have to get rough with it. If you have an air compressor you can get a air hammer to rent and get all your money back when you return it, so in the end it's free, you can do that at most major parts stores.

    Does the car have rear ball joints? I have the 2011 Kia Optima model and I replaced the front ball joints due to noises when going over bumps. But when going over a bump I still hear the noise coming from the rear tire.

    • @jmaverick
      @jmaverick  4 роки тому +1

      VanishedAirWar i personally haven’t seen rear ball joints on the car but you could easily have a broken rear shock/strut that’s causing that noise. In fact in years past, my family has had a few cars that had that issue and it was always a broken or busted rear shock.

    • @VanishedAirWar

      J Golden thank you, I appreciate all the help. I changed my ball joints and the front shocks and struts, and my rear shocks. But I still get a noise when I go over a bump. Probably gonna have to have a mechanic look over it further.

    • @jmaverick

      VanishedAirWar . Sounds like a plan, and if you don’t mind, let me know what they find is making the noise. I still have the car and it might be helpful in the future. Thanks!
