I think all watch enthusiasts should respect anyone who actually chooses to wear a proper watch (ie, not a computer linked to a phone) there aren't many of us left.
There is nothing wrong with smart watches. It's still a scientific measurement of time. Most of us don't need a watch. I have way too many and wear them more like a personal expression of my mood and personality, like a jewellery. I wear a Samsung watch when I walk my dog because I don't want to check my phone or scratch my dog with a steel watch. Yes I don't mind scratching my watch but not scratching my dog. Watch wearers should stop hating on smart watch wearers.
I know Tissot Prx is mentioned ad nauseam lately but I've actually picked my Ice Blue version 2 days ago. Got the call from my local boutique and splurged 745 euros. It was my 40th anniversary gift from myself. I've actually picked it up wearing my Casio a168w on which i was proudly wearing. Loving the PRX actually, it's a incredible watch. Looks and feels like 5 times the price I've paid. Incredible accurate and such a beauty.
Good list. I decided to concentrate on a couple of classics as the mainstay of my collection: -A couple of premium square G-shocks (GMW-B5000D and GW-5000) -a Seiko Arnie SNJ025 -and a Citizen NY0040. All very enjoyable watches!
Very good list. I also have the GW-5000U-1 and the Seiko Arnie SNJ025 (among many other watches). Arnie could possibly be my all time favorite watch. It just has one downside. It lacks a coundown timer.
I'm about to pull the trigger on my 5th NY0040. I keep buying and selling them but I now realise, I cannot live without it. Shame it has a noisy rotor, but for the price point, it can be accepted!
I bought a Zelos Mako with aventurine dial. I don't just like it, it makes summer days better. Staying in the sun and watching that dial thru the AR coated glass is pure joy. I'm in the process of switching to microbrands.
Been wearing my F91 and loving it. My solar square on a NATO. Could do with a Hannu. I still love my SRP777 and got it on now. I need a smaller Bulova moon watch 38-40mm. The 60th anniversary version is gorgeous. I had a radio watch at school, got a fresh coloured ear piece, told the teachers it was a hearing aid, got away with listening to capital radio during class. I think I got it from Argos.
@@ryanjofre Agreed. In this segment, it really is a nice small bump up from Seiko (plus different looks/not everyone has one). Mine keeps excellent time and as an actual timepiece, stomps on the rest of the cheaper stuff. 2-3 seconds a day isn't "accurate" for a quartz watch, but a lot of the cheaper ones are just off by a couple of minutes after several months. This.. about a second a week, at most. Not Rolex, but what is... I just checked mine - 4 seconds fast after 3 months. That I can live with. :) Of note, previous ones were a second or so a week, this quartz one is a little better/newer and seems to basically need to be reset every few months. And, yes, the quartz are more accurate than the automatics if keeping accurate time on a budget is a thing.
Fantastic video MWC, as always! Life is far too short to snobbery, and (more importantly) letting someone else's snobbery bring you down. For the most part, no one cares what watch you wear, so wear what you want and as you said, "like what you love." At one point my whole small collection of watches was Casio/G-Shock, but I've since added other military or military inspired watches into my 5 piece collection. Its what works for me. But if that's not the case for others, great! The only advice I like to give people is don't have a smart watch as your only watch. Slow down and enjoy the simplicity of time without notifications. Even if only from time to time =)
When I think about it, I have had quite a few watches so I must be a watch fan. Three Seikos, one Sekonda (I was a kid), one Mondaine, one Wenger (expensive rubbish), one Timberland fashion watch (fantastic value and did the job as a daily beater for years), one Oris Big Crown (gave it to my son), one Tag Heuer (very much of its time - the 1980s) and a Baum et Mercier for the evening (although I need glasses to read the dial after sunset..). The new daily beater is a Seiko SKX and honestly, it looks great and does the job. Even though it is a daily, I still take it off sometimes to avoid unnecessary damage. Maybe I need a Casio when angle grinding...
Love the Knight Rider part of your show 😎 Love what you do Russ. Truly happy you hit 60K subs recently ... and you're already creeping up on 61K!! You're "Fantasiiiiiique" - please read this in French ... I am a "frenchy" after all ... French Canadian that is 😁👍🏼
Love the Bulova Lunar Pilot here, I would have also included the CWC SBS Diver I haven’t been able to take it off my wrist for 2 weeks. It’s Quartz so that may be an issue for some. It doesn’t get enough love.
Let me tell you what my wife said...who the heck is that! That's the Mad Watch Collector. He does a real good job reviewing watches. I enjoy watching him.
Fun video! I have both the Bulova Moon Watch and the Seagull 1963, both solid watches. In fact, this video has me swapping watches right now; the Seagull needs some more wrist time! 🙂
Gosh! Ive had from Omega to Longines, Tag, Breitling, top end Seiko, However the cheaper watches i have had and have G shock, Lorus, Seiko 5 , Tissot and Timex, i have always appreciated them more because your expectations are not as high, Had a Seamaster that cost 5k and it had hairs wrapped around the hands, from reputable dealer. My Seiko's have always impressed, Lorus can be excellent and as for Casio G-Shock, they make a mockery of expensive luxury watches! Great video MWC! As ever ❤
The $22 Casio A168 has the top notch EL illumination, and in chromed resin with a steel band, it'll do for dressy occasions, if all your pricier watches look like sports chonkers. On the black plastic side, I think the W800 manages to feel higher-quality than similarly priced Casio models, more solid than anything short of a G-Shock. Just a few thoughts.
'If you haven't got something good to say, don't say it..." Well-said Russ, I reckon those wise words came from your Grandad. I'll be honest, I'm not a massive fan of Casios, but I make a point of listening to what you say and I respect your love and enthusiasm for them. Keep it up mate and pay no heed to the naysayers.
Generally we are all respectful of each others collections. Personally I absolutely love seeing a vast array of watches no matter what the cost or quality. Great vid my friend loved it
Ooh, Russ, you're on something of a hot streak the last few weeks, including this one. Great picks here (totally caught me off-guard with the Knight Rider watch). And, yep, snobbery can cut both ways.
My hanowa hans noll has more than held its own with watch snobs sporting everything from a rolex to limited edition tags.... i saw it in a jewelers window and instantly fell in love with it. Tried it on and knew there and then it had to be mine
I've got my father-in-laws Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch, that he received as a gift from the company that he worked at in the early '70's. I'm not the biggest fan of it, but my oldest son absolutely loves it, he is going to get it this year for Christmas.
My collection of five pieces is rather humble compared to many. Only collecting a few years now, I have encountered the watch snobbery as I am one to strike up conversation with other fellows I see wearing watches. All of mine have come from pawn shops, and I did the math yesterday and found I'm only in $640, one SEIKO, two CITIZEN, one BULOVA and a trusty $50 TIMEX. The CITIZEN radio- controlled consistently reads the same as my smart phone, as it should. The other eco-drive is a titanium body and strap and is also surprisingly accurate. The BULOVA, which is most recent purchase, an ACCUTRON Snorkel II cost me $75, and after battery and sizing I'm only into for about $115. The jeweler told me I did quite well. So far it's not lost any time. The SEIKO 5 automatic is a green, military looking knock off of the HAMILTON, I've added a nice leather strap to it which makes it worth about $180, but looks far more valuable. This brings me to the humble TIMEX. I set this watch a few years ago and it doesn't seem to have lost 50 seconds. I removed its strap and mounted it to the handlebars of my commuter bike for winter riding. This way I don't need to mess with mittens and long parka sleeves to check the time. I always look appropriate for whatever occasion.
Fun you should mention these! I own a CA-53, two G-Shocks (even though they're not DW-5600s), a Hamilton Khaki King, a Lunar Pilot and a Seagull 1963. Unknowingly I've been collecting a substantial portion of your list 😅
At this moment, I totally got the Vostok bug (just received a Komandirskie 650539 GMT this morning, such a beauty on a leather strap) , but my next will be a Casioak, I just love it
Man your Out There and I love every second if it, got to look up that Bulova and Hamilton, was it the Jazzmaster, absolutely love the seagull display back, Great show
This was my answer to a watch snob recently - he said "oh, I see you are wearing a fake rolex sub mariner" I said "no, I'm wearing a genuine invicta pro diver".......nuff said. A bit of history, rolex started in London in 1908. The rolex name was used from 1912. Invicta started in 1837 in yodel land.
I remember watch snobbery being out into perspective when I was 18 years old, around 30 years ago. We had a manager at work who walked around wearing a gold Rolex shoving it under the nose of anyone wearing a watch... I used to wear my AE90W (I think it was) and over he came with the Rolex backed up with a comment like "If you work hard enough, you might own one of these one day!". Little did he know that at that time I'd been helping his wife out with a small hemorrhoid issue she was having for about three months prior to him being appointed as my manager. It always stuck with me that Watch snobs, or snobs in general, who think they have it all need to stop once in a while and double check who's rodding the soil stack whilst they're being dicks..... Jesus, she'd be 65 now Lol.
lol i love the way you explained watch snob, i was in vocation with my family in Vancouver islands and i met a watch snob he was rude and keep criticizing my sinn 556i and my father inlaw's tudor 1926 white dail with blue markers 41 mm. it was really unpleasant to listen and deal with that rude snob
Great show Sir 👍 Hamilton? Look great but fog up. A field watch without a screw down crown, jings!!! It’s like a Panerai that can’t go under a tap!!! (You know the one) Love the Kitt watch, I notice you even have the 80’s hair 🤣
I'm a huge fan of watches. If I had the disposable income I'd have everything from a 10 quid F91 to a Grand Seiko. Incidentally, speaking of 80s memorabilia (Knight rider) no-one ever talks about Doc Emmett Brown's watches in back to the future. He wears one on each wrist in both the 80s and 50s scenes and they're dead cool.
Oh, I suppose you're one of those people who uses a smartphone to check the time are you? Probably wouldn't be able to set the time or work out how to fasten the strap! (You just got watch snobbed) LOL.
Nice one Russell and agree with them ALL, except for the Casio calculator, I do have one though my digits are toi big for the buttons😂. I would swap that one for the Casio Royale, a good world timer is essential for me!
A real watch snob thinks about how much it is before anything else which is sad but you get them with cloths ,cars, jewelry, ect, cheers russ for another fun show
I have everything from a Timex Waterbury Ocean Snoopy, to a Bulova Gemini Auto Chrono. Some of my watches I got just for the fun lume, Im a sucker for fun lume. I try to not have too many divers watches, but I do love my Seiko "Monster" homage by Heimdallr. Its a chunky beast! Right now I eyeing the Mido Ocean Star series. I think that'll be the cherry on top. Anything more expensive I just cant justify it in my head. Right now I'm wearing a Ratio FreeDiver, but my usual daily wear is the Seiko 5 SNKL23. I'm a simple man.
You forgot the Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2000. Cult material from the 80ies and still selling. Especially worn with a Nato strap. Original 80ies ones now gracing collections.
Great list and you really can not argue with you. I make you right on all of these watches. feeling guilty now as I have not worn my g shock or indeed another watch for days. too hot!!
My boss and mentor is an old guy. Wears a Rolex Day Date he bought before the quartz crisis. Only cost him $300 then. Still runs like a top. He said that's when the price of mechanical watches soared.
The only brands I trust and wear are Casio, Seiko and Luminox. My all time favorites are Casio G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1, Casio G-Shock Square GW-5000U-1, Seiko Prospex "Arnie" and Luminox Atacama 1944. Honorary mention Casio Mudmaster GWG-2000-1A1. I could imagine owning a Hamilton khaki but so far I haven't pulled the trigger.
I've worn watches from designer watches when I was a kid to Swatches in High School to Swiss Army watches in College to Casio G-Shock in my early employment years to Cartier Tank to a Seiko phase to a Rolex Submariner from my dad (Love you Dad🙏❤️☝️) to finally an Orient Green Kamasu... In the end what I realized is to just don't mind other people, respect each other's choices in watches and just enjoy the hell out of them since Life is too short...🤙 Thanks for this video as I enjoyed it really👊 I appreciate your way of doingnvidz about watches🙏 Just Suscribed😊
wouldn't Guinness have the oldest trademarked logo ever? 1759 I believe, 73 years before Longines....or did Guinness not trademark their logo later than they were founded? Lol, it doesn't really matter, just having fun. Great video, as usual brother!
im glad i own a Hamilton (Interstellar Murph Kakhi field edition) a Seiko Prospect King turtle , vintage Omega Seamaster (from grandpa), several Limited Swatches editions and Casio G-shocks, some random microbrands models, and im excited to have one iconic model of all the other brands that are listed in this vid. Probably The Seagull 1963 is next on my list thanks to your last video and this one. MWC you are the SnobSlayer 🥷
Nowdays watch snobs come in all sizes and variations: Classic snob, reverse watch snob, Casio snob, Seiko snob, affordable watches snob, microbrand snob, the list just goes on and on 😂😂😂
Great video as usual. I really appreciate how you quickly explained what the term horology really, really means. It simply just doesn't come down only to wrist worn clocks, aka watches. No matter how some people use that term when bragging about expensive luxury watches. Great list, I personally might've switch the Casio Calculator to the Casio Royale, but that's just me.
I don't even know when i bought my Seiko Monster as the original EBAY email disappeared with my LYCOS account. But they were only manufactured until 2008. The lume is still great and it's as (in)accurate as it ever was. Made in Malaysia pre Chinese Seiko days and everything lines up as it should. Think I'm going to stick with it.
I have several f91w's, got a calculator casio and a g-shock square (not the one in the vid). Got a Hamilton Field Khaki. Got a Bulova lunar pilot. No Longines. No Seagull and no Knight Rider watch. What i'm basically taking from this video is I need to buy the ones I don't have
I agree with you on Hamilton’s, when I see and hear all the praise for the Patek nautilus and the AP royal oak being such great designs, I don’t get it because the Elvis 80 makes both those watches look the some Soviet brutalist designed parking garage next it’s style and design.
i have all the brands you mention in my watch collection.. also i think you missed Ball off your list I think, the "Ball Skin Diver", is defiantly a watch not for snobs, but boy is it a super watch!
I must take issue Russ. I believe originally watch snobs call it the “quartz crisis” although most people called it the “quartz revolution” but now crisis seems the usual terminology used by watch enthusiasts. Also a watch snub might look down someone wearing a dive watch with a tux, it’s just not done old man 😂
@@markymarknj certainly the quartz revolution almost put Swiss watchmakers out of business but most would say that it was a revolution or evolution of watchmaking in general. Swiss watchmakers generally now make jewellery that also tells the time.
i have a 43mm Lunar Pilot on a new orange silicone strap. love it, love it. and i own a few watches with a higher price tag but the LP is like, you know, really accurate.
Mind you, in the 1970s, a Seiko quartz cost the same as 12 Rolexes. Quartz was super high end new technology that made the time telling accuracy of mechanicals silly. It was not until the late 70s, early 80s that quartz democratised watch prices. But then you also need to remember that Timex and brands like it had been selling 1 dollar watches with a pen-anchor movement since the late 40s. It seems the Swiss carnage was.... well, bad business acumen. :) That all said: Lovely video. Punch and a scrap... I love it. But isn't it Buh-LOH-vuh? Instead of BOO-luvvuh?
Did i mention that i live where Audemars-Piguet,Breguet Jaeger Lecoultre are made?? 😅 Work for that V.C. brand that you also mention (have a Fifty Six one) ....and dispite that i'm here watching "plastic and cheap" watches!!😊
I used to be all about the Big Brands, after loosing My business and having to start over I had no choice but to start looking at the other 'cheaper' stuff.. Glad I did tho, didn't know what I was missing!.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Thanks Russ, I'm doing pretty good right now Ta. Hope You and The Fam are doing Great!.. Fantastic stuff coming out of the Channel Matey!
I have 31 Casio watches priced from $80 to $275. I do have a $400 Frogman. I love solar/atomic Casio watches, usually I love digital but I do love a dual digital/analog display. What I’m hoping for someday is for Casio to make a solar/atomic watch with digital hour, minute and second hands and a readout digital display below. They have a watch with digital hands but it’s neither solar nor atomic and that’s disappointing
Great show …… and I have to admit that I like that your good friend seems to be Socrates! 😅🫡👍 Socrates' Triple Filter Test: 1. “Are you absolutely sure that what you’re going to tell me is true?” 2. “Is what you’re going to tell me good?” 3. “Is what you have to say going to help me?” “If what you want to tell me isn’t true, isn’t good, and isn’t even useful, why would I want to hear it?” 😉👍

What a load of Bulova! Absolute genius! Keep the greatness coming and thank you for sharing.

Great video! I always learn something every time I tune in. Thanks and have a great day!
Orient, Citizen, Ball, just to name a few other brands that might meet the criteria. Great video. Thank you.
I think Tissot has a great range to start off. The Swissmatic V8 series are really nice. Well made and nicely designed. I like Hamilton, too.
You can’t beat Tissot for $$$, especially the quartz. Very high quality Swiss quartz, great designs & sapphire crystal.

Kind of disgusting details but fun to read 😂.
@@OlafThorbjorn - I was thinking the same!!! 🤣👍🏼
🤢🤮😐
😂😂😂😂
Small hemorrhoid issue? What does that mean?
7:00 Supa.
One thing about it, no matter what the interest or topic, there’s always another level of snobbery one can go to.
Good video.
Good list of watches. I have all the Casio, and the Hamilton is my dream watch, too expensive for my pocket right now 😂
lol i love the way you explained watch snob, i was in vocation with my family in Vancouver islands and i met a watch snob he was rude and keep criticizing my sinn 556i and my father inlaw's tudor 1926 white dail with blue markers 41 mm. it was really unpleasant to listen and deal with that rude snob
I’m a watch snob, I’m a tool snob and I’m also a fishing snob. I’m very proud of my snobbery .great vid as per.
That’s lovely
Great show Sir 👍 Hamilton? Look great but fog up. A field watch without a screw down crown, jings!!! It’s like a Panerai that can’t go under a tap!!! (You know the one) Love the Kitt watch, I notice you even have the 80’s hair 🤣
I hear ya!
What a start to the weekend! Thanks Russ
Thank you my friend!
It would be very difficult to not love the Seagull 1963. A most charming watch, indeed. Cheers!
Never really met a watch snob, only saw people who are interested in the hobby and happy to discuss any model or brand.
Neither have I! They hide behind their keyboards!!!
My friend, I can confidently 100% say that no watch is snob proof 😂
So true my friend..lol.
:(
Oh, I suppose you're one of those people who uses a smartphone to check the time are you? Probably wouldn't be able to set the time or work out how to fasten the strap! (You just got watch snobbed) LOL.
Casio DW-5600BB MIC DROP.
Something a snob would say
Good to see you my friend - a little reminder of home 😘
JOJO!!!!!
Nice one Russell and agree with them ALL, except for the Casio calculator, I do have one though my digits are toi big for the buttons😂. I would swap that one for the Casio Royale, a good world timer is essential for me!
A real watch snob thinks about how much it is before anything else which is sad but you get them with cloths ,cars, jewelry, ect, cheers russ for another fun show
Cheers Darren!
Content and delivery are GREAT!! No one can "Have a go" at that! This show was a delight, Mate!
Wow, superb video, this went above and beyond a review. I enjoyed very much the history clips, ty.
Superb!
Fun selection of watches. Have a great weekend!
And you my friend!
I have the f91w the gwm5610 and seiko mini turtle cheers mate 🎉
Well said my friend!
Appreciate it!
great vid mate where you get the knight rider watch i want one? sean
Tudor Pelagos is my perfect diver, so I agree with you! We are in the Tudor family! 😎
wouldn't Guinness have the oldest trademarked logo ever? 1759 I believe, 73 years before Longines....or did Guinness not trademark their logo later than they were founded? Lol, it doesn't really matter, just having fun. Great video, as usual brother!
Go back and take whatever you can that makes sense my friend
Apart from the night rider watch you more or less named my collection. That's made my day 👍
Absolutely ❤ this guy and channel ⌚️
yeeeees ❤
Thanks Paul!!
I bought the khaki field as my first watch. I love it. Seiko as my second. That's all I have right now 😂
Just came across your channel. Awesome stuff mate
Thank you very much my friend!!!! Welcome aboard!
im glad i own a Hamilton (Interstellar Murph Kakhi field edition) a Seiko Prospect King turtle , vintage Omega Seamaster (from grandpa), several Limited Swatches editions and Casio G-shocks, some random microbrands models, and im excited to have one iconic model of all the other brands that are listed in this vid. Probably The Seagull 1963 is next on my list thanks to your last video and this one. MWC you are the SnobSlayer 🥷
iam a new sub and i love the funny parts and also you showed us grate watches without talking about, 140,000,000 price tags ,
Nowdays watch snobs come in all sizes and variations: Classic snob, reverse watch snob, Casio snob, Seiko snob, affordable watches snob, microbrand snob, the list just goes on and on 😂😂😂
Great video as usual.
I like the fact you were wearing the 1963 in some shots and the aniversiry in others 😂
Absolutely!
Would love to see you review the Casio Duro - was surprised to see it didn’t make it on the list for the Casio’s.
great list, fun video. you've really grown on me, mwc. i got the atomic clock square and love it!
Superb my friend!
I have several f91w's, got a calculator casio and a g-shock square (not the one in the vid). Got a Hamilton Field Khaki. Got a Bulova lunar pilot. No Longines. No Seagull and no Knight Rider watch. What i'm basically taking from this video is I need to buy the ones I don't have
Hahahaha
Love this Russ .. we all can’t afford omega / Rolex etc .. some great watches on this video and another great video ❤
Great, now I'm gonna have to go find them. I agree with the list and like that there are all kinds, all affordable and super cool to wear and enjoy...
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loved not only KITT but the watch.
RUSSELL- You might not have got the KITT car, BUT you got Michael Knight's HAIR!!!💇🤪💯
100%!
Great Video. Not sure about "The Hoff" though...😂
Hahahahaha
I agree with you on Hamilton’s, when I see and hear all the praise for the Patek nautilus and the AP royal oak being such great designs, I don’t get it because the Elvis 80 makes both those watches look the some Soviet brutalist designed parking garage next it’s style and design.
The last watch was, like I think is said in Britain, the bee's knees!!! Awesome list 👍
Sweet!;)
i have all the brands you mention in my watch collection.. also i think you missed Ball off your list I think, the "Ball Skin Diver", is defiantly a watch not for snobs, but boy is it a super watch!
Great video as always and an overall solid list. Seriously, though, how does the Knight Rider watch get the nod over a Timex?!
Timex is a weird brand right now. Run in America, owned by Norwegians with fingers in a lot of pies .
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR But isn't that just the same as a lot om the micro brands you've got all excited about?
I'd include one more iconic Casio: the AE1200. I have one, and I LOVE IT!
I must take issue Russ. I believe originally watch snobs call it the “quartz crisis” although most people called it the “quartz revolution” but now crisis seems the usual terminology used by watch enthusiasts. Also a watch snub might look down someone wearing a dive watch with a tux, it’s just not done old man 😂
Hahahaha right Kirk!
I thought that it was called the quartz crisis because it almost put the Swiss watchmakers out of business.
@@markymarknj depends on which side your telling the story;)
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR okay, thank you.
That all said: Lovely video. Punch and a scrap... I love it. But isn't it Buh-LOH-vuh? Instead of BOO-luvvuh?
What is Pen Anchor movement?
Did i mention that i live where Audemars-Piguet,Breguet Jaeger Lecoultre are made?? 😅 Work for that V.C. brand that you also mention (have a Fifty Six one) ....and dispite that i'm here watching "plastic and cheap" watches!!😊
Glad you are aboard my friend! Any discounts available???;)
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR 😅 Only for workers....🤗
😢
I used to be all about the Big Brands, after loosing My business and having to start over I had no choice but to start looking at the other 'cheaper' stuff.. Glad I did tho, didn't know what I was missing!.
MR M! And I’m grateful for your input ! Hope you are well
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Thanks Russ, I'm doing pretty good right now Ta.
I’ll pretty much take any cool new Casio so say Casio and I will click like 👍🏼 , if you say new Casio then automatic upgrade to clicking the heart ❤️
Great show …… and I have to admit that I like that your good friend seems to be Socrates! 😅🫡👍
Socrates' Triple Filter Test:
1. “Are you absolutely sure that what you’re going to tell me is true?”
2. “Is what you’re going to tell me good?”
3. “Is what you have to say going to help me?”
“If what you want to tell me isn’t true, isn’t good, and isn’t even useful, why would I want to hear it?” 😉👍
Fantastic ! Great Video !😊
You won't mind me wearing my citizen then 😂😂
Can we have review on some of the casio edifice range and also the baltic aquascape dual crown please
