Finally! I've been watching videos for four hours and reading blogs for at least eight hours this video Finally described in detail how to test and check the pcv valve Thank you🙏 thank you thank you huge help appreciate the in depth description and comparison of new amd old valve all the other videos were like shake it if it rattles its fine but I thought it can't be that simple you sir have a new follower thank you so much 👍👍👍👍
The lower idle when pinching the hose is supposed to quickly recover when you RELEASE the pinched hose, or WHILE you still have the hose pinched? Thanks.
What computer system do you use to measure things like air pressure and other metrics? I currently have a software on laptop but I cannot watch live metrics. I would like to do this. Have mercedes though...
My PCV Valve leaks at the very top where it connects to the hose(only on cold start), i noticed the clamp is loose so it may explain. I got a brand new PCV valve from the dealer and it still leaks, my main concern is... lets say i buy a new hose clamp and install it so that it properly clams onto the hose, why is there that much oil passing the valve in the first place. Hehe nevermind, i checked my entire PCV system and then ran a test, turns out the leak is coming from somewhere near the PCV valve
@@DIYAutoworksNG I did as you said and there was a slight change in the engine sound. Very slight. I guess that's enough to say mine is fine, right? I didn't have anyone to watch my tachometer for me. Nice video, though.
What are the odds that you you posted the video at the same time I need to diagnose what's going on with my PCV. and why it triggers a P0175 and P0172. My Fuel consumption has been ridiculous. Started suddenly some weeks back.
A coincidence indeed! Hopefully, you can get to the bottom of those 2 codes. Also rule out restricted air supply from a clogged air filter, as well as a defective MAF sensor; providing wrong readings of low air volume going into the intake manifold...
That's blow-by gasses. All cars have some degree of blow-by including new cars. It's more to do with the degree of air coming from there. That's also why we have PCV valves. They take this blow-by to the intake side of the engine.
@@DIYAutoworksNGexactly. I bought a used 18 Tacoma with the 3.5 v6..it runs great..smooth idle..no oil consumption..and coolant clean and topped off..but at 165k..I get a plume of smoke with a slight hint of gas/ oil on startup that isn't really condensation I believe..the smoke only lasts until engine operating temp. Doesn't do it while driving..but every startup even at 100 degrees farenheit.
Question, anyone who knows... I bought a new PCV. I blew into one side horizontally (the way it is installed on my engine) and it had an air leak. Vertically, there was no air leak. I returned it and got another one, but the same issue? Maybe my lungs are not as strong as an engine! What do I do? Order another one? On my engine (toyota) it is a difficult R&R.
@@DIYAutoworksNG, Really! OK. I tested another one and it does the same. So, I'll install this one. I just hate if I have to redo a 1.5 hrs repair. (2017 Camry's PCV valve is in a very unique location!!)

You're welcome! Glad this was helpful.
hi! The pinch method should make you find out if the PCV valve is stuck closed, but what about stuck open PCV? how to check it?
Not correct. Maybe you want to rewatch? If you pinch the hose and the idle drops significantly, PCV valve is stuck open. I mentioned it in the video.
Excellent explanation, thank you.

With the hose pinched

I use 3rd party scanners. Xtool, autel etc. I had one computer-based one back in the day, but it just hurts mobility.
Can you change the valve without a check engine light that goes on afterwards? (Honda Civic)
Changing the valve shouldn't lead to a check engine light. Car should be off for the procedure.
Great explanation
Thanks mate!

Wow! Honoured! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
You showed the Honda PCV valve but didn't demonstrate it on the accord. How do I test this on my Honda Accord 2006 v6?
Exactly the same principle applied here. Pinch the PCV hose as shown in the video and listen for a change in engine tone and idle.

Yep, that should be good. If you've never changed it, I'd plan to do so out of preventive maintenance, or clean it at least.
@@DIYAutoworksNG yeah, I already cleaned it to get it to work. It was pretty clogged up when I took it out.

Mate if i open the oil cap i feel small air pressure on my hand but without smoke, its normal right?

Good stuff brother.
Thanks👍🏼
Very good content
Thank you!
An inexpensive part that can save a lot of trouble.
Well said. I bet some may have proceeded to rebuild an engine without knowing the oil burning\smoking was from this little part!

The blow test is now for old-style PCV valves. Some newer PCV valves will have air blow through them.

Some manufacturers just like to make things difficult. Not knocking Toyota though. BMW comes to mind...
Your voice is the same as that of BI PAKATHI❤❤
Absolute coincidence!
Will this make my car not crank
A really bad PCV valve can cause starting problems, but not a no-crank. I'd look into the battery, starter, neutral safety switch etc..
