"Humming to Myself has such a great arrangement and sound! Sam sang it well too. Another great collection of Ambrose and Sam! And Moonlight Saving Time is wonderful!
A much underrated singer, but enormously sort-after at the height of his career. I'm glad that Sam left such a fine catalogue for posterity to discover and enjoy.
I agree with you, but oddly, that is why I do not particularly care for this version of “Stop the Sun.” It very much does swing, it’s very danceable, upbeat. But it is actually a very sad song if you think about the lyrics for a moment. That is why I much prefer the version done by The Boswell Sisters, who treat it as such. Very bluesy, almost a dirge. Check it out! The Bozzies were so brilliant.
@@odietamo9376 I'm well acquainted with The Bozzies' "Stop The Sun," which is brilliant. Those girls were great innovators, and always surrounded themselves with the best musicians, particularly the Dorsey Bros.
Man! You can NEVER Go wrong with Ambrose!! His Orchestra is truly the the finest ever! Sam Browne is just AWESOME, His rendition of "Monin` For You" is a MUST hear as these are! Ambrose is GREAT enough as is, But posted with the suburb prozoot uploading method brings out even more of the very best in these BEAUTIFUL Recordings! Thank You for these!
Does anyone know what it cost - in sterling - to visit the Mayfair Hotel at this time to watch and dance to Ambrose? With perhaps supper thrown in beforehand too?
It's a challenge to find an Ambrose/Sam Browne from this period that is NOT delightful . Sam is said to have made more than 2k recordings with innumerable bands principally in the 1930's decade . Some sort of record ?
Ambrose' time with HMV must indeed have been his best period. Good as his later Decca sides are, the HMV have that 'extra' that makes them unique. I've never come across a side that I didn't like, I simply bought each and any one I could lay my hands on. And Sam is my favourite vocalist, I personally rank him above Bowlly (please don't kill me for that!).
@@syncopeter You know your stuff, Peter. However, must disagree with you re Sam vs Al Bowlly (you knew I would!) Sam Browne is a superb 30s vocalist and few are his equal but Al Bowlly - he doesn't have any equals, in my view.
@@syncopeter Sam was such a consummate professional. A documentary was made of him in "Sam Browne remembers" shortly before he died. He came across as completely self effacing and rather humble and he could still sing as well as ever.
@@syncopeter I love them both but for me Al had the edge over Sam for his characterful way of interpreting the lyrics and his voice was more powerful and rich. But Sam was very good of course.
Humming to Myself and Moonlight Saving Time, oh wonderful.
Boy!
Just listening to this kind of music makes you wonder of those wonderful days of yesterday.
Merci beaucoup from Paris France and take care 😉 👍
SENSATIONAL!
AND SMASHING!!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Brits were FABULOUS....so SOPHISTICATED!
LOVE MOONLIGHT SAVING TIME....Sam Browne had a great voice.
I enjoyed it too.

Great songs and great Ambrose Orchestra!
It's a gloomy rainy night here where I am listening and these songs just hit the spot like a good cup of fresh hot perked coffee. Thank you.
Great sound quality!
Ambrose never disappoints! Wonderful to hear a second "Moonlight Saving Time" today. ... This treatment of "Stop The Sun" is fierce and swinging!

Ambrose & HO was superb - oh so smooth! Personally I favour Carroll Gibbons - his sound in my view was the most delightful of them all.
prozoot You Da Man! I just love the music and your ability to share with us.
I love this 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
AWSOME❤️IT. PERIOD.
Enjoying Sam Browne vocals - sad he ended life in comparative poverty - Wonderful performance from Ambrose, great British Orchestra.
Lost everything with his daft gambling addiction.Had a tiny attic type flat in Chelsea at the end
@@davidglow3 Sad to hear this - thanks for posting, David. By all accounts, Sam was a good person, but gambing is no respecter of persons.

Hey Prozoot, Love your channel and so glad you are back. If it isnt too much to say, what was the 7 year break about.
Alegrías de otra época y cuáles serán las nuestras?

Humming to Myself - в антологии советского джаза в аранжировке Цфасмана известна как "Искушение"
самый лучший джазовый оркестр тех времен
Have you anything from the early 20s? Might be nice to extend range another ten years.
....my collection starts from 1925. Thanks for tuning in!
@@Prozoot Let me guess: Is that because in 1925 electric recording began and audio quality consequently became much, much better?
@@odietamo9376 ....exactly!
