Dude, you just discovered one of the most genius bands ever to walk the face of this earth. Their music came from an era of optimism and possibilities, unlike the truly bizarre and uncertain future we face today. It was a simpler, happier time and their music reflects this, even though some of their songs, such as this one, are about sadness. But no matter what the lyrics are, their music is always uplifting. And Agnetha Faltskog can rightly stand alongside the likes of Karen Carpenter and Barbra Streisand for her vocal range, power and clarity. Beware; if you go down this rabbithole you will never want to leave. Congratulations to you for your latest discovery!
Agnetha is wonderful. If you haven't, check out her CD My Colouring Book (some of the tracks are here on UA-cam). Oh, and that's a cute nom de plume... :-)
I loved ABBA..from Eurovision and the brilliant Waterloo all the way through their career..it wasn't 'cool' to like them but if you appreciated well written..well sung catchy tunes you just had to go with the flow..they were EPIC..so lucky to be young in the 70's and 80's..we had such great music and all so different i have a very eclectic choice of music and sure it comes from allthe different genres we had growing up
Not even their first language. There was a time when people would scoff when I told them I loved Abba. Now you have to like Abba to show you appreciate clever music.
04:41 That cut to his face where he looks so sad too. I grew up on ABBA and loved them so much, so even as a kid, I got how sad this song was for the band.
Abba song writing class... ...start with a hook, go into another hook, add a few hooks, finish with a hook. Become Sweden's third largest exporter. Boom.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be singing this song, but singing it with the partner you're breaking up with and who wrote it must've been a nightmare
Oh finally some ABBA! Both ladies have amazing voices and together they are unmatched. Check out SOS, Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Take a Chance On Me, So Long, Our Last Summer, Slipping Through My Fingers, The Day Before You Came, Voules Vous, Lay All Your Love On Me, The Visitors, Waterloo and Thank You For The Music. Context for this song for you - Bjorn (Guitarist) and Agnetha (main vocals) were going through a Divorce at the time - not on day to day speaking terms but somehow still performing together. Bjorn apparently wrote this song while depressed and drunk about his feelings on the breakup. Its amazing that they could perform this together - there is a moment at 4.44 where he looks at her for a second, and I think you can feel his pain there.

Brighton '74....I remember that night like it was yesterday. When SOS came out , I knew then that ABBA were going to be around for a long time .....40 plus years later...here we are !
She and her x-husband (the guy just to the left of her playing the guitar) wrote the lyrics to that song and she sang it. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been, but the real emotion comes through in her voice, which I will admit is absolutely wonderful. The harmonies in any ABBA song are a large part of what made them so popular.

The lyrics were written by her ex-husband after their divorce. She cried the 1st time she had to read them in the recording studio. He is the guy on the guitar.

JayVee my brother, you playing these songs of the decades gone by and your reactions to it are basically a reaffirmation that the music we had in the 70's, 80's and to an extent in the 90's were really great masterpieces. It tallied us around causes, it had meaning, the lyrics spoke to you, the bands know their music and they played for us. They spoke to us and it had meaning. ABBA was my childhood band. It was some of the first songs I knew as a young boy. In our teens ABBA basically spoke to every teenager and couple. The disco clubs were not real if they didn't play their songs even if it was 20 years after they disbanded and made their last recording. You have reacted to many songs that I loved and still love. It was part of me in my youth and young adult life. So thank you my brother for re-experiencing what we held dear. These song were our lives, basically. May God bless you and may you continue to take us back into a period where we lived and enjoyed life and appreciated the best music our decades could give us. Ah beautiful Agnetha, no one can escape the power of her enchanting face and voice lol, but Frida next to her also leads with her beauty and vocals, "Fernando", "Chiquitita", "Voulez Vous", "SOS", "Knowing me, Knowing You", their first hit "Waterloo", "Dancing Queen","Thank You For The Music", "Take a Chance On Me", just to name a few. ABBA is such an amazing group, sooo many hits lol you're in for a treat!
When Sweden won Icehockey world cup gold medal in Stockholm 2013 against Switzerland they played the chorus of this song on the final whistle! So amazing. Abba is the pride of my beloved Sweden
There are some duets but in many of their songs one sings the lead, whilst the other provides backing vocal. That's exactly what they did in this song. Agnetha on lead vocals, Frida (and Björn) on backing vocals. :)
Agnetha was default soprano , Frida was default Mezzo- soprano. When they played live, they sometimes switched the lead vocal If one had a cold or sore throat etc,
Bjorn also took the lead several times: Does Your Mother Know, Watch Out, Suzy-Hang-Around, Two for the Price of One, Another Town, Another Train, Crazy World, Rock Me,...
You really can't go wrong with Abba. I absolutely love Knowing Me, Knowing You. But like I said, you really can't go wrong with whichever of their songs you choose.
ABBA were big all over the world throughout the 1970's. They are two Swedish couples Agnetha (the blond one), Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid (the brunette), The capitals of their names are: ABBA. Both women have extraordinary voices. Agnetha with the shining soprano and Anni-frid a bit deeper. Both voices harmonize wonderfully. Abba at their best are when the both are singing duets, in most of their worldwide hits. Abba are like Queen, they had more worldwide hits than fitting on one CD. Try their song "Chiquitita" next, starting with Agnetha, followed by duet vocals.
They were indeed. They were so popular they even made a movie (ABBA-The Movie) in Australia. I doubt many people know about it, I don't think it was a classic, made quick to cash in on their popularity but I just checked and it's on youtube if anyone cares.
This song has always got to me. So emotional and beautiful. When she sings “beside the victory, that’s our destiny” it gives me massive goosebumps every single time I listen. Respect to you my friend for reacting to such an Iconic and timeless classic
Love you are reacting to female bands & female rock singers!!! Here are a few off the top of my head, I think you will enjoy :) Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders), Alannah Myles, Melissa Etheridge, Janis Joplin, Roxette & Suzy Quatro........
Abba always has amazing female vocals in their songs. They were huge in the 70's. I'm sure everyone is recommending Dancing Queen, SOS, The Name Of The Game, and Waterloo. Just to name a few of their awesome pop songs!
I am from Finland and when I was young in the 70s nobody admitted liking Abba and yet we all knew the words 😂😂 Kylie sang Dancing Queen at the Sydney olympics opening

Bjorn also took the lead several times: Does Your Mother Know, Watch Out, Suzy-Hang-Around, Two for the Price of One, Another Town, Another Train, Crazy World, Rock Me,...
@Steve Sauls
Why don't you use you damn eyes and ears. Frida is also singing. The each sang lead, on different songs.
I wished I could have a woman who would love me as much as she has for the person she is singing about 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤣🤣👍😘🇬🇧
You really can't go wrong with Abba. I absolutely love Knowing Me, Knowing You. But like I said, you really can't go wrong with whichever of their songs you choose.
Definitely Knowing Me, Knowing You. Jay needs to hear one where Frida takes the lead also.
Live for this group..Thanks for sharing
Agnetha and Anniefrid of ABBA. Easily two of the most beautiful voices ever.
When they're combined, there's no match
I was born and raised in sweden, and the thing i'm probably most proud of is ABBA.
I like how he was really excited before she really started showing her voice.
Watching your reaction is joy! ❤️
ABBA- The Movie is well known all over the world, even here in Singapore
I grew up listening to Abba and I still love them ❤️
Oh, Abba, in 80 I got my first tape recorder and a tape....Abba and Happy new year...they are Swedes, but a danish fan ❤😱
Andersson and Ulvaeus still have it, too. Look up "Story Of A Heart" by the Benny Andersson Orchestra. Magnificent post-ABBA power ballad...
"The Day Before You Came" another one of great song of ABBA
Reacts to "Fernando" or "the day before you come" Abba. Greetings from Chile.
An immortal song
ABBA is from my country!
your country,our ABBA
Thanks for sharing them!
You are right to say that with pride.
@@lunapuella2611 what do you mean?
@@themixedcorner I mean I would be proud to be able to say that they came from the same country as me. They are amazing.
@@lunapuella2611 oh thank you, i thought you meaned different thing
Both girls had fabulous voices that complimented each other superbly well. Try "Thank You for the Music".
This song has always got to me. So emotional and beautiful. When she sings “beside the victory, that’s our destiny” it gives me massive goosebumps every single time I listen.
Respect to you my friend for reacting to such an Iconic and timeless classic
ABBA are da bomb! Agnetha and Frida, they both are fantastic leadsingers, but when they sing together...heaven!
I was so lucky to grow up listening to ABBA in the UK when they when they made these tracks, I still feel blessed for those memories.
I love the reactions ,,,,,,,,Thank you for sharing
Abba, genius
I am from Finland and when I was young in the 70s nobody admitted liking Abba and yet we all knew the words 😂😂
Kylie sang Dancing Queen at the Sydney olympics opening
Probably my favorite ABBA song and you have to pay attention to the lyrics because they are BRUTAL !
I am 69 and I still put on ABBA when I am cleaning or cooking. It makes me dance around the room. Pure joy!
