Thank you for finally doing an ABBA reaction! Very well done and you may be surprised to know they sold over 300 million albums world-wide. They also are the only band to ever sellout six consecutive nights at Wembley Stadium for a tour in the UK. If you ever want to see something incredible look up their live videos from that tour. You'll be blown away at how good they were live.
agnetha had an incredible vocal range. if you listen to "hole in your soul", you'll hear her hit a glass-shattering high note in the middle of the song. it makes my hair stand up whenever i hear it.
Wow, a spectacular vocal performance! One of those songs that will expose even the slightests of vocal flaw, she had to be spot on every second throughout
She was one of my fav from abba and still is. This song was my first song I ever wrote letter by letter (and English isn't my first language) I was so proud of myslef. I learned English form English music and one of them was abba songs.
I dont believe they were actually "influential". By all accounts they brought nothing new to music. They just perfected the form. Someone like the sex pistols (absolutely massively influential... yet not a single award) or kraftwerk... possibly one (if not the) most influential group in history creating two brand new styles of music along with the Beatles or Elvis. If music "styles" were vehicles (cars, trains, planes etc) then ABBA would be a Ferrari, a bullet train or a supersonic fighter jet. But it's the Benz motorwagan, Trevithics steam engine or Wright brothers "flyer" that were the creators.
Abba have been a part of my life since 1974. My parents took me to their concert when they toured in Australia in 1977. I was 7 years old. They have just recently recorded 3 songs together in the studio (after about 28 years!) for a virtual tour which I have been anxiously waiting to be released. But there has been some delay. Abba is the love of my life, they have always been there for me. ❤️
ABBA are one of the most successful groups of all time in UK and Europe...in USA only had a small number of top 10s and 1 chart topper (1976's Dancing Queen)...hence your lack of familiarity with them (here in the UK they had over half a dozen number 1 singles and other top ten hits...they had 8 number 1 albums on trot in UK)🎩
Welcome to my youth when ABBA was on the radio all the time. While I'm more a hard rock, metal guy...I still love me some ABBA. Great songs and great performance. Just get one of their greatest hits albums, pour your favorite adult beverage, kick everyone out of the house, put some great earphones on and enjoy!
When you listen to these two ladies beautiful voices, just keep in mind that there was no auto tune back them. You really need to dive into this group. They have so many hits. Probably a lot of songs you know and don't even realize it. Dancing Queen, Mama Mia, Fernando.. Prepare for the 🐇 🕳️
@Nicky L When they exploded into the English-speaking world, Agnetha could not speak the language. The others had various ability, but English was not the primary language for any of them. Agnetha memorized and sang the sounds, not the words.
@Nicky L pretty sure both the ladies couldn't speak English...definitely not Agnetha in fact I think Bjorn may have been the only one of the 4 that could speak and understand English properly
This song and Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse are songs that I think of together, for all that they’re very different. They both use very similar metaphors for a broken relationship, and have the same amount of emotion in them. Also sung by two extremely gifted women with astounding voices.
I love Roxette !!!! (and of course Abba : "Voulez-Vous" is so underated) but Roxette; this is my teenage time :) "Spending my Time" "Crash ! Boom ! Bang !" "Almost Unreal" "Dangerous" (2003 Remastered Version) "Dressed for Success" and of course "The Look" & "It must have been Love" and about Sweden , there is also Ace of Base !
ABBA were prolific songwriters, dipping into different genres for inspiration. That's why most of their songs sound so distinctly different from each other. You can't categorize what genre they fall into because they turned to so many differing types of music. You can hear all the differences I mean by listening to - Dancing Queen, Fernando, SOS, Does your mother know, Voulez Vous, Take a chance on me, Waterloo, Mamma Mia...among many other hits.
Pure vocals, neutral - no oversinging, no vocal gymnastics, no ghetto r&b vocals. The material - true songs and compositions, artistic merit, musical content, variations in the songs, a message, melody and even sensitivity. No, ABBA isn't the only one like this, but simply most mainstream acts and work before the 2000s
It's the most bitter of love songs and yes Agnetha brings such incredible raw emotion to her performance. The perfect Reprise to this ABBA song is 'Thank You for the Music'
I think a lot of your reactions are adorable. It's great to see someone so young be impacted and inspired by music that was written long before you were born. However, I'm not sure if you misspoke or you really meant what you said regarding who the winner and loser is. And also the part about the judges. The first thing you have to understand is that lyrics are often metaphorical. The judges in this song are not real courtroom judges. They're the judges in a fictional game. The game is the romance/relationship that this woman is in. The winner in this song is definitely the person who is DOING the breaking up. The loser is the person singing the song. Basically the song is sung from the perspective of a person who is graciously accepting that the relationship is over and she is taking her place. Think of the Olympics. The winner is always standing higher than the other 2. Hence the metaphor "someone way down here." The line "the judges will decide... the likes of me abide" basically means that when you are in a competition, you accept and live with the decision of the judges. But yes, this song is raw emotions. It's never failed to bring tears to my eyes since I first heard it shortly after the first time I got my heart broken by a girl. My all time favorite ABBA song.
This is undoubtedly the saddest divorce song ever written in the history of music. When a marriage or relationship ends, there is always someone who loses more than the other.
ABBA wrote and performed so many hits. They're music inspired both the movies Mama Mia, and Mama Mia 2, Here We Go Again. In those movies, most of the "dialog" was the songs of ABBA. I loved them both. Love ABBA.

Well, things do change. ABBA is back.
ABBA is an acronym of their first names: Agnethe, Bjorn, Benny and Anne-Fried
Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid (commonly known as Frida). :)
And they had to ask permission to use the name from the fish-related company that got the name from AB Bröderna Ameln
Aaand.. while we're at it: if anyone wants to know another acronym of a huge swedish name , IKEA, it's; Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. The founder's name and birthplace! 😁
P.S. At one stage, they were the highest earners for Sweden, grossing even more than Volvo.
Sure about that m8 ??? they didn´t have to many emplyees..
Fredrik Stålgren , That’s the script we were given many times in the UK.
Also in 2020, oh my God, I love zweden, people are wonderful, but little bit cold as ice, hahahah. May i ask you a question? Do they also have feelings? I think if they have, they do not show it to the person they love. Greetings from Holland.
This song makes me cry every time I hear it ... especially knowing the back story.
I only ever bought one CD in my life, ABBA Gold.
It is a staple!
This song absolutely KILLS ME every time.
As a swedish im glad u made reaction time this song u have followed Abba for a long time 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🙏🏽🙏🏽
They were singing about themselves in this song. Each one of their marriages were over. They were 2 married couples in this group
no the song is just about Björn and Agnetha's breakup... which if you watch the music video for it, should be pretty obvious
@@GroovingPict Yes, Benny and Frida's story has sung in All Is Said And Done (although we can see on Frida's face she already feels similar; her and Benny's breakup happened a little later after the single and album released)
They cheated with the other's man in this group. That's why it ended.
Frida wrote the song " There's something going on" after they broke up.
@@dawn6320 That was the gossip; actually Björn and Agnetha became estranged from each other (mostly because of the pressure by success what made the introverted Agnetha's downer tough), then Agnetha and the kids left him and he started to date with her "younger alterego", a journalist called Lena Kallersjö (around a week later). A half year later Björn confessed to Frida a quite alike state: he cheated her with a (bit younger and similar looking) TV reporter, Mona Nörklit. The women tried to move on too
with more or less success. This and the global political and social issues had a strong effect on the final completed album, The Visitors and the subsequent singles which would lead up the next album what has never been made.
This is ABBA's best song, by a mile, and the others are fantastic too!
During their time the biggest artists were the Beatles, Abba, and the Bee Gees, internationally. They were that huge.
When ABBA first toured, they had the largest crowd since The Beatles from what I hear from people who were alive then
As a Swede i think it's pretty cool that they at the height of their career were the biggest band in the world!
@@milesalpha1 Do you like ABBA?
The Beatles split in 1970, ABBA didn't come along until 1974 but they conquered the world in the genre of music
Well elvis beatles whoeever all where huge abba was huge to
there's a huge amount of music from that period that deserves to be rediscovered
There are so many other ABBA songs you should react to!
_Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!_
_Money, money, money_
_Chiquitita_
_Fernando_
_S.O.S_
_Waterloo_
_Super Trooper_
_Dancing Queen_
_Mamma Mia_
_Voulez-Vous_
And, as for some personal favourites that are less-well-known but I think are awesome
_Eagle_
_I Have A Dream_
There are probably a dozen (or two) amazing songs I am forgetting right now, but these should last you for a bit.
Yes,ALL of them and I Do,I Do,I Do,I Do,I Do....:)
@@Isleofskye "Thank you for the music" 😊
The loser standing small 😭
It's about another woman winning the heart of her man. It's a breakup not necessarily a divorce with kids.
You opened up a great box with ABBA. Weirdly I don't see other reactors doing ABBA.
@@dexterjankaren there are quite a few reactors for abba now, I was surprised because I always thought they were underrated
Abba was the very first band I was crazy about. I think I started loving them when I was about nine, and I was excited to get each new album.
Knowing Me, Knowing You is another great one of theirs.
Baby, this group ABBA was a super pop group. Can't argue with the perfection of their song craft.
He’s standing right there..... playing guitar.
😀😀 ....and he wrote it, gave it her to sing, unbelievable to say the least!
@@elizabethtimothy4776 Makes me think of Hollywood marriages and divorses... or break ups... Like If both are alive and whole at the end, it's a win...Lol
OMG one song ,or better any song ,from ABBA and ive got gosebumps all over, i love this group
So funny to see a young 'un react tot the music of my youth. It's inconceivable to me that you don't even /know/ of these bands today, but that's how it is.
ABBA is an acronym made up from the initials of their first names.
It depends on people. Young generation also loves and listens to them. I'm 16 and I love old songs by Beatles, Queen, ABBA, Guns 'N Roses, Whitney Houston. They became world classics. It is worth at least respecting.
Sorry for English mistakes, I'm not a native speaker
Also my childhood music. Now I'm 20 years old and still Love it. Bit it was the first english music and Band i had listened to
This was my favorite group..when I was 12 years old. They were recently offered 1 Billion to sing again, however they declined. Their Songs in Spanish are so beautiful and I believe they are Simply Amazing! Watch the documentary as the girls in the band were married to the men and decided to DIVORCE...they were millionaires by then and split up.
Thanks 🙏🏽 for the REACTION is greatly appreciated...Happy Holidays and God Bless. 🤔🙇🏻♀️🙏🏽🔥🔍🇺🇸🕊👏🏽
The world lost when ABBA broke up .
I still have my ABBA albums, posters and t-shirts from the 70's
Thank you for finally doing an ABBA reaction! Very well done and you may be surprised to know they sold over 300 million albums world-wide. They also are the only band to ever sellout six consecutive nights at Wembley Stadium for a tour in the UK. If you ever want to see something incredible look up their live videos from that tour. You'll be blown away at how good they were live.
@Thou Swell that's awesome!
the younger generation need these songs- this is real emotion- try to get this emotion with a rap song- cannot be done
agnetha had an incredible vocal range.
if you listen to "hole in your soul", you'll hear her hit a glass-shattering high note in the middle of the song. it makes my hair stand up whenever i hear it.
You realize she is singing of the breakup with one of the guys in ABBA, who is there playing.....
ABBA was VERY famous world wide in the late 70's a movie called "Mamma Mia" and #2 was made based on their songs.
nise 52 The movie was the adaptation of the long running Broadway play.
And the Broadway show where based on their songs!
Wow, a spectacular vocal performance! One of those songs that will expose even the slightests of vocal flaw, she had to be spot on every second throughout
great reaction! i love ABBA and dont feel one once of shame! lol also, cute seeing your kid bust in! haha!
I grew up listening to ABBA and I love seeing folks discover them for the first time. Thanks and keep the great music reactions coming.
Dancing Queen is probably their most famous song. Cool grove to the song.
ColoradoHiker7002 it is influenced by the groove in George McCrea’s “Rock Your Baby”,
Bjorn has said.
She was one of my fav from abba and still is. This song was my first song I ever wrote letter by letter (and English isn't my first language) I was so proud of myslef. I learned English form English music and one of them was abba songs.
One of the most influential groups along with the bee gees for song writing and musical production.
I've heard this song hundreds of times... 2:00 in, I'm already bawling
Loved your sweet reaction to your child walking in. :)
Love me some ABBA, and oh Agnetha's voice.. I had such a crush on her.
ABBA is one of the world's supergroups, which just about more hits than any other. One of the world's best selling artists of all time.
They wrote the greatest breakup song of all time. They also wrote the greatest dance song with 'Dancing Queen'.
Great song, check out 'Dancing Queen' for more upbeat ABBA!
Even better, check out the parody song "Banking Queen" about Congressman Barney Frank
Super trouper was more gooder.
Prepare for the
🐇 🕳️
They also didn't speak one word of English. They were taught how to pronounce the words and learned it over time (after several hits on the charts)
@Nicky L not from what I've been told for over 30 years and from watching their interviews
@Nicky L When they exploded into the English-speaking world, Agnetha could not speak the language. The others had various ability, but English was not the primary language for any of them. Agnetha memorized and sang the sounds, not the words.
@Nicky L where did you get your erroneous info from?
@Nicky L pretty sure both the ladies couldn't speak English...definitely not Agnetha in fact I think Bjorn may have been the only one of the 4 that could speak and understand English properly
You have to listen to EVERY ONE of their songs. No one will ever make you feel the way ABBA will.
Such an emotional song -- timeless *
Let's admit it, we all have some memories in each and every ABBA song
In this song, "The Winner" (if there is one) is the "other woman".
This song and Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse are songs that I think of together, for all that they’re very different. They both use very similar metaphors for a broken relationship, and have the same amount of emotion in them. Also sung by two extremely gifted women with astounding voices.
Your little one! How precious!
IMO one of the greatest bands ever!
Swedes make great pop music. How about a Roxette reaction? Perhaps "Fading like a flower"
I like Roxette better when ABBA.
I love Roxette !!!! (and of course Abba : "Voulez-Vous" is so underated) but Roxette; this is my teenage time :)
"Spending my Time"
"Crash ! Boom ! Bang !"
"Almost Unreal"
"Dangerous" (2003 Remastered Version)
"Dressed for Success"
and of course "The Look" & "It must have been Love"
and about Sweden , there is also Ace of Base !
And Ace of Base and the Cardigans.
I enjoy your racional analysis with due subjection to the band!! Congratulations!!!
AWWWWW....what a cute kiddo!!
Excuses. More of 400 million. Records. One of the best pop groups ever
FANTASTIC VOICE ONE OF THE BEST AND STILL SINGING TODAY IF SHE SUNG TO ME I'D NEVER LET HERE GO
When her kid walked in I couldn't help but laugh.
Oh really?!oh wow ruined the moment
Love you and lovely kids. I' m swedish and I think you really nailed it due to lyrics about ABBA the winner takes it all.
Everyone in the world has heard ABBA... lol. Just listen to Dancing Queen.
Well it would have been funny if she said this song reminds me of that mama mia movie :D
thank God for music before 2000.
Ever hear of the "The 5th Dimension" Age of Aquarius is a good tune to start with.
And let the sun shine in
Carpet Man is the one.
ABBA wrote and performed so many hits. They're music inspired both the movies Mama Mia, and Mama Mia 2, Here We Go Again. In those movies, most of the "dialog" was the songs of ABBA. I loved them both. Love ABBA.
