Thank you i appreciate it! Although theres people that will find something to say im doing wrong even if it aint there haha. So i greatly appreciate the positive comment
Great video Jag. Thanks for the run down. That set up works good on bigger rivers like Niagara where you bottom bounce the bait. Hope you have a great fall season.
Great video and very informative, thanks Jag. I am new to freshwater fishing but I really want to give it a try next year at Salmon River. Just have a question about the main line for salmon fishing, will a 20 lb braided line work well as the main line for salmon fishing? Thanks.
Stay away from braid it will screw everything up. I recommend the yozuri topknot mainline or vanish. I use 17lb test with 6-10 leader depending on where i am fishing and water clarity
Great Info, Im planning this fall for a visit to salmon river. With the information you give I feel I will be confident in catching some of these beasts. Quick question, you mention you use a Kastking sharky 3000. You mention 16lb main line, the sharky III 3000 shows from what I see is max at 12lb. This still works fine? Thank you for your time and good luck to all this coming fall.
Glad you found it helpful.... i have not had any issues and it loads plenty of line for me. Lots of people use bigger gear but what i tried tho show in this video is a nice basic setup that will hold up just fine.
I want to know when you are giving up your current job and hitting the big time with this sportsman thing you are amazing at!! You are a born natural at this....I hope someday to see you on tv.❤️
Salmon, rich in protein. The last time i had some was back in 2018 on vacation in the states. Its so expensive where i am at the cost for a pound can fill my gas tank for the week. hahahaha...an insightful share my brotha
Thank you for the informative video. Hey what size length of rod do you recommend for salmon river as im planning to use spinning reel? also for salmon do we use medium/medium heavy/heavy type rods?
So here is my take on it.... ive seen salmon snap fancy expensive rods. I like to go with ugly sticks. They can take a beating and if it snaps.....well you didnt just lose a 200-300 dollar rod you know?. Btw never had one snap an ugly stick on me yet. I like to use medium. If i am fishing smaller creeks ill use a 6'6" as its easier in smaller places. On the main river something like a 9' rod will make your life a whole lot easier.
That would be a good idea but very difficult. The salmon are constantly on the move there really isnt and places that are better than others. Its really just the right place at the right time. Might do one of where to fish on the salmon river 🤔
Hi. Great video. My brother in law and I are planning to go up there in October for the first time. Looking forward to it. Question, can I have a sliding weight on the main line? I don't want to break any rules. Thanks again for the great info
Good luck on ur first trip its always so exciting man! You have to have no more than 48" between your weight and leader. Unless you use a stopper i dont see that happening. Also i think that it would defeat the purpose of the rig to be honest. What rig are you thinking of going with?
@@jagfishing836 I'm thinking of going with your setup. It seems simple and easy to replace the leader line. Do you think a 20lbs drag is enough? I'm new to fishing so I really appreciate any advice. Thanks again
@@steelrain2256 i would not stray away from the setup i showed. When i first started out i ttied dofferent things and lets say when it comes to theory and practice this one works the best. But by all means feel free to mess around within the legal limits on trying to find whats best for you. And yes that will be enough. When im out there i honestly have my drag set so low its ridiculous. I usually have 10lb test leader and i always think of how much drag do i want on 10 test with a 30 pound salmon on the line. Honesty a decent bass setup will do the job. Its not so much the strength of the gear its more about how the fisherman fights the fish type of deal
@@jagfishing836 I agree with way the fisherman fights the fish makes all the difference. I lost one a foot from shore on 14lb ragin Cajun line just yesterday all was going well besides it crossing every other pole that was on the bank when I set my drag kinda loose ish. So to stop him from running so much I tightened my drag little by little, still all going well and then when my brother was a foot away with the net he snapped my line. I would have landed him had I not tightened the drag so much and just let the reel wear him out over a longer time. Lessons learned. I usually run 25lb braid which I dragged a 14.5lb king in with the day before just fine. That being said. When putting up a fight like that for so long it is a good idea to re-rig because with the 25lb braid 3 seconds in to its next fight it snapped right after the sinker. Major let down I lost 4 salmon yesterday due to being new at big game fishing. I am used to skidding 8lb catfish across the top of the water with my heavy pole and 65lb braid. Happy fishing. There are a ton of salmon right now, almost none of them care about what's on the end of your line for bait though.
I agree with everything u said man, and people can say what they want i believe strongly unless you get them in the lower end of the river when they first come in from the lake and super fresh theyre not biting anything at all! Im gonna try to get out at least one more time this year i rlly wanted to make a good video up there but got so much going on its been absolute mayhem finding any time
Thats something thats hard to say. You gotta read the reports and see where they are and how theyre miving. Its honestly about being at the right place at the right time. One of my favorite spots are pineville, ballpark and black hole

Hey there jag fishing, have you ever fished in dexter? I have bagged a 14.5lb king salmon and just got absolutely destroyed by the fish last night/ this morning. Crazy to see a channel doing a video on a local river
@@jagfishing836 yes it is by watertown, only a few minutes away. I just started fishing there this past weekend. The salmon are just a jumping right now. I was wondering how you found out about the tackle restrictions for the salmon River. I have been looking for the specifics on the black River for dexter. I know there are differences with the types of hooks you can use even in different parts of the river there are different rules. I was looking to get a small boat and do not want to be breaking any regulations for the fish.
Personal preference. Total weight i usually go for is around 1/4 ounce sometimes more. That really depends on the current. You want to get it so its just bouncing off the bottom
Been there twice, last time was a week ago. During the late afternoon saw a huge run of cohos come through and a few kings. Its decent for this time of year but nothing special
I really enjoy using the kastking sharky 3000 series. Its on the smaller side but i like to feel the fight. Also, suprisingle the ugly stick gx2 reel is also exceptional and dirt cheap
@@jagfishing836 40.00 at Walmart I have 2 of these I love them. They work super well with braid. No problem casting 40 yards with 1oz sinker without really putting much into it

As far as i am aware of yes! I prefer the faded looking on as the silver is more visible and looks less natural
