Salmon River Tributaries 2024 | Early Season Salmon
The day before my mother passed away she told me it's salmon season so I should get my boy and go catch a salmon. Well we listened, a week after her passing I grabbed my son and we headed out to the tributaries of the salmon river in Pulaski New York to try and catch a salmon in her honor. We saw plenty of salmon including king AKA chinook and coho. RIP mom.

Most of us, if not all, can say that the sunfish is the gateway drug to fishing. Pumpkinseed, Bluegil, Redbreast and all the hybrids in between have more than likely given us the fishing bug. Today I take my youngest out to catch the fishing bug himself!

Hey man sorry about your mom I’m planning a trip down with my dad right now because who knows how many seasons he can try salmon fishing left. I’m trying to decide what rod to buy for us. As a budget fisherman all the steelhead and salmon rods seem like overpriced marketing. What size rod (power, action, length) and reel do you use? Looks like u might be using ugly stik GX2 which is one I was thinking about that. I have a light 5’ one already. Thinking I’d go up to 9’ medium moderate fast, but want to make sure it will stand up to a good chinook battle while still being able to feel a bite from a big brownie or steelhead
I appreciate it, thank you. You already know it my friend. Thats exactly what i would tell ya to go with. I see so many people out there with expensive rods getting them snapped in half. Id rather use an ugly stick thatll do the same job and if it snaps, oh well im only in the hole by $50 versus $200. Enjoy those moments and keep doing stuff together with the old man. Good luck!!!

Hey man! My dad, my son (11), and I are headed up to Pulaski next weekend (October 4th into the 5th). It's mine and my son's second time. Our first time was last year. My dad used to go up when he was younger. I'm gonna ask if you could violate the fishing code...... In your experience, where are the best places to go? Especially with my son who doesn't have much salmon fishing experience... Hope to hear from ya!
The river is dangerous for an adult let alone a kid. Hit up the shallow spots where the current is raging. For obvious reasons i will not name specific detailed locations but my recommendations wld be spots like black hole, sportsman pool, tribs, even up by altmar boat launch wld be a pretty good spot. People always ask for spots but i always tell em google maps is your best friend. Dont be scared to explore and dont follow the spots, follow the fish and read the local reports. Hope you guys put a hurtin on em! Best of luck

I agree with some of the comments recommending to use a bobber and bait instead of flossing. Easier said than done when just starting out as a BEGINNER. This is my 3rd year salmon fishing and I am just getting around to using eggs as there is quite a learning curve to begin. I started out flossing to get aquatinted and got more tips and lessons from other anglers along the way. I love quite a ways from the salmon run so I couldn’t just start out cured skein, maybe a gas station cup of pre tied eggs

So flossing is snagging, but when someone does the same thing with a fly rod and a fly at the end hes called an ethical fisherman?.....🤔
@@jagfishing836 no lol flossing on a fly rod is still snagging and flossing on any other rod is snagging. If you can get them to bite then your doing something wrong or your out of luck. But flossing is still not the way to do it. But this video is pretty shot

What is the lenght of your spinning rod an what action is it
So i use 6'6" ugly stick medium heavy. Theyre strong and if a salmon breaks it im only 40 dollars in the hole versus a nice expensive rod lol
I’m not going to ask exact spot on the tributary but is it closer towards the lake or Altmar sometimes my son prefer to stay at the lodge and I go alone as expected September would be best closer to the lake definitely freshies 👍 can’t wait til early October this year 😊
Honestly theyre in all over in all the tribs, just gotta know where to look. In the morning and evening hours theyre moving and once sun is up they find holes and rest under trees, root systems etc. No BS there is no one place better than another. Distance from lake doesnt really matter cuz in 2 days a king can do the entire run. Thats just DSR reports to get them more customers haha
Those are hard fighting fish tough for adults and when kids can pull them out if river is awesome I always bring my oldest son there and our trip is early October 2024

Hey, what's going on . I watched your video, and it was insane. This year, I will be going to pulaski New york for the first time ever from 10/4 through 10/6 to do some salmon fishing, and i'm excited. I do have a question about your setup. I have a stx croix rod 6.8 with 10 lbs test line on it. My question is, can I use a straight line with what I already have on my reel. My next question is what size hook and what is that little round ball you have on your end of your line.? You're definitely getting my subscribe. Just need some good advice. I find so difficult successfully flossing one of these, I see some guys ripping them next to me, I have the same setup but just not able to hook up
Theres no teaching or explaining it perfectly. You just gotta get the feel for it. Took me 2 seasons to "feel" it out and all of a sudden i somehow know what im doing lol

Gotta lead them a bit depending on flow, make sure your weights are far enough up the line to have enough of a whip also. Should feel a few bounces of your weights off the bottom then just set the tip like normal
