Not a producer myself but when I was about to salvage a broken Harley Benton bass (that has surprisingly decent wood/build quality, looks cool, is comfy, and was the cheapest 5 string I could get) with passive pickups and active preamps anyone worth their salt told me to yeet tf out that preamp and get some good passive pickups and pots and make it a decent passive instrument. Their explanation was that anything the built in active preamps do can be done by stompbox preamps, but way, way better, and that any studio engineer would curse out artificially boosted bass and trebles in a shitty way that is always the case with built in active preamps, they just don't do any good, ever, they only mess up a good clean passive tone. Now, if I were to go for active pickups, that is a totally different discussion that is totally worth exploring, and a matter of taste/needs what you prefer. But especially for recordings in a studio, active preamps with a passive pickups are a definite, absolute NOPE and just use a stompbox preamp if you really think the passive tone is somehow not enough. You will have way more control and better results that way. Or if you really want an active preamp, then you want active pickups, too, otherwise it just makes no sense whatsoever and you will get a mess that is hard to work with when mixing.

Why does my bass sound so bad? No I don’t need to replace the strings, they’ve been on there for 20 years and they still sound fine! No I don’t think my tetanus is linked to my rusty strings. Yeah I know they cut my fingers every time I play but the gunk keeps the funk bro

I found the old vid a little annoying but I forget if I commented or not. I love the looks of the guitar and like the fact the guys took your suggestions and improved the guitars. I LOVE those Dunlop flush mounts!! I just looked them up and they seem pretty easy to install and I would install them mostly at the stock points in most of my pointier guitars. It's going to be a little expensive but if I slowly buy a couple here and there it won't seem like a big drain on my wallet. As far as adding the Fender style jack I am sure it something you could do yourself you seem to have the smarts to do it. I am sure you could add the flush mount Dunlop locks yourself. If your not up to it I am sure you know someone up there that could do it for you. I have seen some people installing wireless systems in their guitars just by talking the ones you plug in to the jack taking them apart and installing them in the control cavity. A project I am going to attempt in the near future.

I appreciate them trying to make the improvements. The multiple jack outputs is awesome. However they put themselves from one bad situation in to another by moving the strap button to the spot your hand would need to be. You can see see him trying to avoid it too when he puts his hand there and flips the guitar. The benefit of the V is having all that open space for people with big hands. Either way I love the look of this guitar. They did a killer job on it. Really hoping to see them get big!

I really want this company to succeed, and for the industry to adopt their standards. I am sick of how it caters to tonewood snobs and even sicker of dealing with the hassle of an unsealed fretboard and the host of issues from travelling from and living in a high-humidity environment. Graphite/carbon rods can only do so much, and they can't prevent improperly cured wood (I am looking at YOU, FMIC) from shrinking over time. Ruffaine, and similar materials, as well as ruf's manufacturing processes, should be an industry standard.

I recently modified my Strat to be more ergonomic when sitting. To do that I had to move the Football Jack to the back of guitar due to the removed wood. Not too hard to do with some planning, and it works surprisingly well in that location. My guitar has one pickup, a Humbucker in the Bridge location. With the Mods I've made, it only weighs 6 pounds 10 ounces/2.9 kilos.
There is a YT video by Phil McKnight: "Kiesel A2 With Scalloped Fretboard" that shows where they located a Football Jack on the back of a Strat type guitar. I used approximately the same location.

If you care to try, setting up a super hot splitable humbucker with a split, and use 250k pots instead of 500k pots, the split comes to life.
Doesn't kill the humbucker tone despite popular belief, specially when it's super duper hot. It kinda works in your favor since it tames the signal, you can get the pickup magnet closer to the strings.
p.s. the x2n is my favorite pick up personally

The key to fixing neck dive is to purchase tire weights and stick them along the electronics panel. It doesn't take much. Maybe one or two very light weights. I'm guessing the tuning keys are too heavy and causing the neck dive. Obviously the design should not need weights but if you love the guitar that is the simple fix. Of course, I had to do it to my Gibson SG but the fix works like a charm since I love the guitar and wanted to keep it. Light bodies and heavy tuners, etc are always going to cause neck dive. So you have to make changes if you want to keep it as it is and not change to lighter tuners or a heavier bodies. Still hate the strap placement on SGs, etc. A simple fix.

But to see the immediate, honest and 100% sincere response from Glen, as well as the amazing response from Ruf guitars - that's how the world SHOULD BE! We're all human, we all do things that, in hindsight, are maybe not optimal. And the ability to go out afterwards and say 'yep, I hear you, I got that wrong' - just amazing. Although I'm a Brit, I suspect people worldwide might agree with me when I say that I wish our politicians were even 1% as honest and able to say they got it wrong... Two thumbs up, and keep up the amazing work.

But, you did show it...at the very end for enough frames that I could pause to get a good view of the blue. I thought it was a clever video, but figured you'd do a follow up to fully show it. I guess this is it! 😀

i have no idea what the material is that its made of but that is a sweet sounding guitar! well made and seems like quality components' that king of the hill brought back so many memories! Dammit Bobby!

I think I like the look of every part of the guitar EXCEPT the way they've got their logo on the headstock. Even still, it's a visually striking V that seems like it plays pretty well.

I found it very refreshing to hear you be critical of yourself and live up to your mistakes. It's such a common thing for people to double down instead of just saying 'yeah that was dumb sorry'. You're usually a bit of a loudmouth (lol which I usually quite enjoy) , so it's nice to see that you can own up to something like this. It's also nice for people to see that even people who are very experienced make mistakes all the time. So many people act like they are above that when in real life no one is above mistakes. If people would follow that personality model the world would be sooooo much better. Cheers 🤘

Never really cared for a V shaped guitar before until I saw this one! Maybe it’s the all blue and the shape is better and especially since they’re putting two output jacks and moved the strap locks and can get flush ones. If I was going to spend $3k it’d probably be on one of theirs to not have to worry about any woods cracking, bowing, or shrinking.

I don’t tune in for clean tones, but I do LOVE clean tones. Unfortunately I’ve also grown an affinity for the way you break things down and when you find some really cool guitar (particularly if it’s hard to find in a store or on other UA-cam channels) I get bummed when I can’t hear it clean. Seems like you can make almost anything sound decent with the right gear, but if you ever play clean isn’t that basically just the guitar?

Love the guitar! Hate the colour, doubled down with the same colour fretboard! Yeah, I know, blue screen blue, loved the first video by the way lol The yellow looks cool..... Wow, didn´t they listen you your recommendations! Geeze! Thats what you call listening to AND acting on those comments! Great job guys! By the way, does it BB? 🥰

It needs something black where the neck pickup would go though... Factory etching or decal, though sticking something on it would be blasphemous I suppose. - Also, can you talk them into some explorer-like shapes?

Great video! First, great to see the actual guitar! Ruf did a damn fine job and I'm not a big Vee fan. Second, nice to someone on YT admit they screwed up. Not just the error but the how and why. Good on you, Glenn! Third, and last, good on RUF that they took your advice and modified the guitars, and went far beyond what most makers would do. I mean, TWO jacks. GTFO! That's awesome! Great to see a maker be so responsive to player's voices about their needs.
Keep up the good work, both of you!

What a killer guitar!!! I love the colour and the finish. Cool graphic on the back too. It was great to see Ruf guitars respond to your video. I am so keen to look into them. Low action is so hard to accomplish without compromises. Your reviews are so entertaining and I love your honesty. You're a legend Glenn and I love your Pink Panther riffage. Keep up the awesome content dude. One question, it looked pretty light, how heavy is it?

That guitar reminds me of an Ibanez VBT700 which Ibanez made for 1 year (2007) before they had to discontinue due to a lawsuit (by Jackson? Can't remember.) Not a fan of the blue fretboard though.
