When you said the F word, I genuinely got nervous, and looked over my shoulder to make sure my mom didn’t hear. Then I realized I’m in my 30s, and don’t live with my mom.
Great Video! One of the best things about the PS1 is that I'm always finding new games that I missed. After all these years, this list still had a few games i'd never heard of!
Only games on the list I played were Dragon's Valor and Legend of Legaia. Dragon's Valor was a bit weird because *Spoiler* You follow the dude's bloodline. You get hitched with a princess or something and then you play as his son and it continues on and on. So much happens that its really enjoyable. Unfortunately I only got to just before the final boss before I lost the game. Legend of Legaia was so much fun. The 3 characters did form an interesting group. Their stories were fun to play through. I want to play it again when I get the chance.
Great list as always! You've got one of my favorites in my collection in there, Ghost In The Shell... took me a long time to track down this gem but love it.
I own 2 on this list Cyberbots and Ghost in the Shell GitS has a ton of fun extras and new animation not seen in the movie or show The opening is a sight to behold and the funny Training vids are great
I don’t know that Ghost in the Shell would qualify as “forgotten”, as it has always been both on the expensive side and difficult for me to get my hands on. Regardless, a nice selection of games overall. I discovered a gem or two that I might seek out. 🙂
It is pricey now yes. Glad I picked it up on day one since I loved the anime and manga. But I would say it has kind of been forgotten now. I've talked to a bunch of people who have never heard of it and of course there is a whole generation of gamers who were born when it came out that have never played it. Scary to think it was like 25 years ago or so.
I've spent too many hours with RC DE GO, it's a cute and so addictive racing game! Love that you add it in the video! Years later, that same feeling I had it with Driift Mania (that WiiWare game for Wii with 4 friends and Meteor mode, hilarious).
I'm downloading this translation patch now! I love all the work of retro rom hackers and translators, because of them I can play gems like Metal Max original, Linkle Liver Story, and Captain Rainbow and 100s others on handhelds and consoles! BTW Moon was just released on Switch, I got the physical collector's box from PlayAsia if you're interested...it has English as you know!!!
@@VogueDistortion yea you have to have the ROM or disc, then patch a fan translation available from romhacking . Very easy, tutorials online if youve never patched
I adored Hard Edge. It's a classic. Hard Edge is the reason I can be very nervous about using items and tend to horde them because I remmeber been unable to finish it because I ran out of healing items and couldn't find anymore by looking round and so I ended up starting over, so it's had a big impact on me. Legend of Legaia is a game I have a strong desire to replay. I don't remember if I finished it or not, I know I at least got really far into it.
Excellent Video, There are some epic titles here for sure, I owned Chaos Break & Hard Edge back in the day & played them loads, pretty much any game that had a similar style to the resident evil games i was always looking to try them out, Had a demo of Ghost in the Shell, that was awesome. Legend of Legaia & Dragon Valor are interesting, have never played them, i will be looking more into them after watching this... Some other games i'm thinking of that are mainly forgotten on ps1 i think would also be the City of Lost Children, Chase The Express, Cyberia, Time Commando, Fade to Black, Little Big Adventure is another one... So many cool games on the ps1 that very few know about... Again Great Video...!
Both Fear Effect games were amazing, just a bit frustrating at times in terms of difficulty and controls. I still vividly remember my amazement when I first experienced the cinematic graphics, motion FX I believe the technology was called. A remake was in the works but I haven't heard anything new in a long time.
Great video. So many memories hit me as soon as Legend of Legaia was on. I rented that thing so many times from Blockbuster. Liked and subscribed. Awesome channel.
Still play the Ghost In The Shell game. Great music and great intermissions. Since it was made by the Jumping Flash team it controls pretty well. Only some jumping parts on the last level are bothering. It's fairly short once you memorize it but there are a bunch of unlockables if you do all the training missions. The PS2 GITS by Cavia and the PSP game were both decent as well. Pity there aren't more games based on the franchise.
Hey, you actually checked out my suggestion of Gear Fighter Dendoh! And the Ghost in the Shell game is AMAZING. The controls are completely modern, far ahead of any 3D game I played at the time and still completely playable today, which is not something you can say about many fully 3D games of this era. Dragon Valor, Chaos Break and Legend of Legaia are great picks too. I want to check out the Dr. Slump game with the brand new fan translation.
@@thatvideogamesshow have you played Mad Stalker: Full Metal Force? It's very similar to Dendoh, though not as good and it lacks the 3D fighting sections. But the rest is so similar at first I thought the games were made by the same company
I really love Legend of Legaia, it was my first JRPG. In that time aside from RPG games we did not have story driven games so Legaia was surprisingly exciting for me. It is one of my favorite games of all time.
Man there's always one or two (in this case more) games that I'd never heard to mention or never pay attention to that definitely deserve to be played. Thanks for all the recomendations! :) My only regrets is that the Hard Edge (one of those that I didn't know it existed) is not available for the PSVITA (psp) which is the platform where I use to play this games :P
Sheep raider is a underated ps1 game cool looney tunes game also it deserves more regonizing it has cool soundtrack cool levels the graffics are actually nice for its time
Loved Ghost in the Shell PS1 Game, the anime cut scenes were top notch along with the voice acting. I enjoyed the goofiness of the Tachikoma AI. I wish I kept my PS1 collection, I would love to play the game again.
Dude just buy it or emulate it. I haven't played ghost in a shell but imma download it and start playing it as soon as i get far enough into the anime. Haven't watched it yet but im going to asap. Easy.
I just bought Gear SENSHI Dendo (type that in ebay to find more instead of "fighter"). "And even F'in beavers" lmao I'm sold on that RC game now too. I keep adding to the PAL and NTSC PS1/Saturn gems, they're just so many it's ridiculous. Thanks for showing a few more that escaped my retro collecting wrath these past few years.
I was about to mention the super fun but hard Ghost In The Shell haha! Four more forgotten games worth playing: - Colony Wars Red Sun (space combat, uncanny graphics for the PS1). - In Cold Blood (kind of a spionage game with Parasite Eve 1/Resident Evil mechanics. Not a perfect game by any stretch, but definitely worth trying). - Rollcage Stage 2 (heart pumping combat racing, amazing graphics and lightning/particle effects). - Psychic Force (port of a Taito arcade fighting game. Not the best fighter, but innovative and flashy).
As someone who grew up in the PlayStation era I've have never forgotten those games. Although i missed a couple of games I'll give them a try emulation is easy nowadays. Thanks for this video good sir!
Ghost in the shell awesome and underrated game. I still have my original copy. If you emulate it you really really need to get the manual. So much is explained there to make everything tie in.
Legend of Legaia is the game,in which i grinded the characters up to level 99,just to get the amulet for the Jaggernaught or whats its called monsters ability.
As someone who had a PS1 early on, I doubt I could ever forget Ghost in the Shell. Of course, I failed the training mission I don't know how many times. ---- Legend of Legaia, I always wanted to play the full game. Loved the demo, it just fell by the wayside due to limited funds at the time for me.
I've got one candidate for a great underrated PS1 game... C-12: Final Resistance (2002) This above-average third person shooter / adventure game plays like Syphon Filter and with its futuristic post-apocalyptic dystopian alien invasion storyline feels like a PS1 version of the PS3 Resistance: Fall of Man.
You ever play Wolkenkratzerr? Feels like a weird protoptype of Returnal on PS5 meets Baroque meets Souls.. It came out in 1996. It an action RPG of sorts you're on some alien planet with medieval weapons and living in some rural town outside a massive alien like skyscraper tower you need to infiltrate. So not tower defense more like tower offense. And like Souls/Returnal because you die a lot (and getr poisoned. The combat area shifts to a different screen like I guess Tales games but the commands are mapped to the shoulder buttons like Souls so L2 is block with shield, L1 is overhead strike, R1 and R2 are other dword strikes and the moving up on the Directional pad moves you forrvward while moving down on the D pad makes you move back. Weird. Also ther'es floors of course. And the face buttons are for other commands you later assign. Also after each one on one battle you rest at a tent campfire then move to the next floor. Town NPCs are static 2D sprites; combat use 3D models. Its weird.
So happy to see Legend of Legaia on the list. Unexpected and truly a very unappreciated game that had tons of care and loved pored into it. Shame it's mostly faded into obscurity nowadays.
If you do a video on ps2 games, can you include Drakan the ancient gates? It's an early souls like games pretty close to nightmare creatures than a souls game but it's highly underrated in my opinion.
I submit the Action Platformer '40 Winks' - a (unintentionally?) disturbing fever dream of a game which sees you warp to various uncanny locations such as haunted woods, flooded underwater bases and the prehistoric era.
