And it just so happens that I found your channel and since then I subscribed. All of your content is very informative, calming and entertaining to watch. I could go as far as to say that you deserve more subscribers and views.
Glad to see Digimon World 2 mentioned, it is my favorite PS1 game. I was obsessed with it as a kid and play the hell out of it. I wish DW 2 & 3 would get remastered versions for modern consoles.
DW 2 is such a trash game. It's just an unintereting dungeon crawler, an incredible step down from the first Digimon World game. Thankfully this style of gameplay never came back to this series
DW2 was one of my favourite games as a kid, would love to see a return to that kind of gameplay. Funny how different all three are from each other, though.
once again, you lists are well curated and the way you narrate make me want to play each and everyone. if you make a part 2 I reccomend checking out "Future cop: LAPD" it actually has a secondary mode other than story that is argued to be one of the first MOBA like games. That aside though you play as a cop in a mech that can transform into a hover car and you have tons of weapons and can upgrade them and I just used to loooove it as a kid.
@@merman1974 i guess they had some of the same devs maybe, but as a studio (ea redwood which is now visceral games) this was their first game and the story has nothing to do with the strike series so I wouldnt call it a "spin off" though.
I've been binge watching your videos for months now and as the PS1 is my favorite and nostalgic console, its videos are my most awaited ones... I've finished a lot of great hidden gems thanks to you and the last one was Koudelka and now playing The Legend of Dragoon 😀 God bless you man and I wish you the best in life, take care
Gungage! I still have that game. I bought it almost 20 years ago. It remains one of my favorites he and C12 Final Resistance. Great video as always! Thank you!
Bomberman Fantasy Race is one of my favourite ps1 games of all time and I always hated how people are quick to dismiss it as a "bad mario kart clone". It's much more than that and it actually tries to be its own thing by adding different mechanics. The creatures you ride for example drift using their own momentum, rather than by simply pushing a button like in Mario Kart. There's also the fact they have a stamina bar that you need to manage, it means that you can't just accelerate as fast as you can all the time and win that way. There are also the jumping pads on the walls of each track that if you time it right allow you to jump off them to gain a boost in speed. Finally, the fact that you always have a projectile on hand (the basic bomb) regardless of whether or not you've picked up a power up means that you can always use them to attack other players, defend yourself from their projectiles and even use them to boost your speed if you time it just right and throw the bomb a few feet in front of you whenever you make a jump. It has its flaws for sure, besides the ones you mentioned about the lack of analogue stick support, some of the powerups can be incredibly cheap too, but it's also a game with a lot of depth in its mechanics and unique aesthetics that people always miss out on because they are quick to hate on any cartoony racing game that is not Mario Kart™ made by Nintendo® . I'm glad that you decided to give this one a try and recommend it to others!
Here are some Gems from me: -Expert (FPS) -Silent Bomber (3rd Person Action) -Crisis Beat (Beat em up) -Legend (Beat em up) -Raising Zan (3rd Person Action) -Chaos Break (Resi Like Action) -Galaga Destination Earth (Shmup/Railshooter) -Ninja Shadow of Darkness (3rd Person Action) -Jackie Chan Stuntmaster (3rd Person Action) -Space Debris (Railshooter) -Burning Road (Daytona on PS1) -EoS Edge of Skyhigh (Railshooter) -Gamora 2000 (cheesy Railshooter ;) ) -Guntu Western Front 1944 (WW2 Lightgun shooter with hilariously Bad Grafics) -Viper (Railshooter) I dont know if you covered some of them?
I always look forward to your videos! Very well done and the content is awesome. And thank you for leaving the name of the game up in the corner while you discuss the gameplay!!!
MAD STALKER is so cool, I found out about it from the arranged soundtrack getting recommended to me a while back. It was released on a surprising number of platforms too
YOOOOOOOOOO that Bomberman racer looks so good tho (as someone who's not that into racers these days)! Welcome back though, I love these vids! Will be sure to try some of these out at some point, a few that interested me here. Never really took a deep dive into the PS1 library tbh due to how outdated a good handful of games feel (imo).
I recall suggesting Blaze & Blade as well as Monkey Hero for this list. It'll be cool if they get included so more folks can learn about those fun games and I'm curious to hear other's suggestions here. 0:40 - Man, a lot of the plots of games could be solved by just having better software protection. Seems a lot of rogue ai's or hacking turns the defences against people in these Sci-fi worlds. Seems a fairly straightforward Beat Em Up but the presentation is different to the norm. 3:55 - Ah, the adorable Louies. Bomberman is a very adaptable mascot and the crazy explosions of his games make for a rather natural fit for the kart racers of the time, with an even more natural transition of utilising the rideable Louies from the main series in the place of the karts. 6:03 - I was rather surprised to see Digimon World 2 on this list. It seems to be a black-sheep amongst the first three PS1 Digimon World games and I don't previously recall it being discussed positively. 9:35 - Nice explanation of Last Blade's Repel Mechanic. The visual information was well timed up with your explanation of it all. 13:00 - I'd heard of the previous fighter, Last Blade, but Critical Blow here is a new one to me. Love the look of this moving train stage.
I am pleasantly surprised! I thought I knew about most PS1 games by now and nearly no 'hidden gem' videos showed me anything I hadn't seen already.. but I never heard of Critical Blow or Gungage before! Thanks :)
Really love these videos. You do such a great job putting together these lists. The only game I’ve played from here is “One.” I remember it being really fun!
Every game here looks like a ton of fun. Unusual for me with lists like this haha I’ll have to check out more of your videos, I like your taste in games it seems!
Your videos are always wonderful to watch, TVGS! You manage to go into great detail about each game you present in your videos, and showcase some titles that are amazing!
Great selection games, quite a few of the games i have yet to play with elemental gearbolt & project horned owl, Bomberman fantasy race but they look really cool so will definitely try them for sure. I played Critical Blow a while back & i agree it is a cool fighting game & challenging but looks great & One is just insane, i never played a game on PS1 that had so many explosions, just pure chaos, challenging but epic fun for sure. Yea gotta love the rare ps1 games, still loads to find & explore. The console has tons of games that will suit a variety of players, just epic.
I am going back and realizing that the ps1 actually has some pretty interesting 2D 2.5d game's that got overshadowed by the 3d effects games back in the day.
Mad Stalker looks pretty fun! I'm always on the lookout for fun beat-'em-ups. Digimon World 2 I wasn't too crazy about, though I respect it being different.
Cool to give The Last Blade a mention in this video. It find it to be one of the best Neo Geo ports on the PlayStation. The load times are much faster than the Neo Geo CD version
One is soooo underrated and not that many people know about it! I played that game so many times as a child and played it again a few weeks ago and it still holds up pretty well! There isn't much story and it didn't bring anything new to the table when it launched but it's just a fun game that you can pick up and play; the hours will fly by.
Perfect timing for this as I'm looking to make a new card for my little emulation handheld atm (bigger with more PS1). Couple of games here I may look to add. 👍 Edit: never played it but from what I see here the steady frame rate of Rock n Roll racing 2 alone makes it a bit interesting to me.
For Bakumatsu Roman: Gekka no Kenshi (The Last Blade), I recommend the original, Neo-Geo release. Characters have more frames of animation and controls are more responsive. Rock & Roll Racing 2: Red Asphalt (just Red Asphalt in the US) isn't being recognised because, unlike the original, Silicone & Synapse (Blizzard Entertainment) had no involvement with this title. Critical Blow? Never saw a release outside of The Country of the Rising Sun™☹
If i have nothing to play on my PS4 I always watch one of your videos to choose a game to play on my PSP. My pick today is One because it's Contra like gameplay. Thanks!
PSA for anyone who is considering playing Project Horned Owl on original hardware with a lightgun (you lucky sods!) - Horned Owl was a pretty early PS1 game which was published by Konami in Japan who made their own light gun for it. Sadly, that means the game will NOT work with the more popular & easier to find GunCon 45 from namco, who bundled it with Time crisis & point blank games. Elemental Gearbolt has no issues like that though, as it was one of the last games released on the console. The limited edition version with a pair of gold foil wrapped G-Cons is also the most expensive game for the console & highly sought after by collectors. The western release was done by Working Designs & they did what they often do & jacked up the difficulty to ridiculous levels! The plot of the game is also incredibly dark & morbid... Mad Stalker is also a really interesting choice as there are many versions of it floating around. I think the original game was on the Sharp X68000, a Japan only PC. There's also a sega saturn version and (get this!) an unreleased (until recently) Mega Drive/Genesis version!!
I have been trying to get my hands on a copy of any of the digimon world games for almost 2 years now, they are getting difficult to find, aside from paying way to much online for them. Even about to take disc only copies of that's what I come across
Oh, I know about "CRITI-CAH BRO!!" It's the sequel to a fighting game called _Genei Tougi: Shadow Struggle,_ but it's an improvement over the original in pretty much every way.
Bomberman fantasy race and digimon world 2? those are literally on my top five PS1 games. The first is only second to CTR in the "mario kart-like" racing genre. It's quite unique, unlike speed punks that's literally just a copy of mario kart and CTR. Digimon world 2 is a sweet little dungeon crawler turn based RPG. Anyone who likes those genres (or digimon) should play it for sure. It's not better than DW1 but it's good on it's own thing
Gungage! I've been trying to remember the title of the game but I couldn't. I also had never seen it on UA-cam before. Thank you for the enlightenment. Now I can finally play this game.
Hello there. There was a game in PS1 , Japan game, it looks like a Gun Gage, but another game,The main story was about bandits that attact to building and you need to fight with theme (as i remember there was a shooting elements also a fighting elements) Maybe some one is remembers >?
Fun fact about Rock n Roll Racing 2: The official UK Playstation magazine called it "Insipid, hollow and soulless" and gave it a 4/10 😂Pretty harsh if you ask me.
Oh this just pisses me off. We didn't get most of those in the states unless they got retitled. And Mad Stalker and Rock & Roll Racing 2 both look awesome.
If you play D-pad only supported games with an emulator like DuckStation, there's an option called "use analog as D-pad" or something like that which will clone the up/down/left/right buttons to the analog stick. Makes a lot of those pre-analog 3d games easier to play, even if you don't get subtle movement options.
Which PS1 hidden gem would you suggest?
Rising Zan Samurai Gunman
Solid choice there, absolutely loved that game!
Abalaburn, Overblood 1&2, ODT, Skull Monkeys, Silhouette Mirage, Gear Fighter Dendoh, Chou Kousoku Gran Doll, Kaettekita Cyborg Kuro-Chan, Brave Prove, Community Pom, my list can go on forever!😅

It's effectively a spin-off from the Strike series, created by many of the team that did Soviet/Urban Strike on PS1.

Bust a groove, I remember playing that game so much as a kid!!!

YES!! Was looking for a couple of gems for my RG35XX, TVG do you ever rock a portable emu-device??
I never heard of those titles you killed it bro can't wait to part 2

Bomberman Fantasy Race.. Very nostalgic to me❤
Welcome back!!
I had no idea The Last Blade had a console port. It's my favorite fighter on the Neo Geo.
You’re a wild man for putting digimon world 2 on a hidden gems list but I respect it 😂
Love when your videos drop 😊
Glad you like them!
Wow there's lots of hidden gems I have never heard of. One is the only one I can recall hearing about. Awesome video content. 👌
Glad you found something new!
Your videos are beneficial to humanity. From them, I can find more lost gems to play with.
TEKKEN 2 has one of the best intro tracks hands down 🔥
Since the release of Delta & Gamma I’ve been going back & looking for good SNES & PS1 games to add to my iPhone
Nice choices. Digimon world 2 is underrated
I’ll second that!
Didn't know that Bomberman had a racing game. Know I want to just get baked and play it
I thought that was Yuki. Last Blade is a classic. Probably the most under rated SNK fighter IMO.
Project Horned Owl is a home port of the arcade game Steel Gunner, and if it's not, then it hell looks ALOT like it

If you play D-pad only supported games with an emulator like DuckStation, there's an option called "use analog as D-pad" or something like that which will clone the up/down/left/right buttons to the analog stick. Makes a lot of those pre-analog 3d games easier to play, even if you don't get subtle movement options.
