What is your favourite PS1 game?
So many to choose from.
Medievil, Ridge Racer type 4, Tekken, Parasite Eve 2
Some great choices there man!
@@thatvideogamesshow so many great games.
Koudelka, Rollcage, Front Mission 3, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Wipeout, Omega Boost, Time Crisis, Dino Crisis
as always sir...its PE 2.... and also i do love some PS1 RPG's as i have so many memories while playing them back in highschool 2005-2006 and then while in College 2006-2008... i was surprised when i remembered that the first RPG that i have played when i got a PS1 for the time was Final Fantasy 6.. and my favorite racing games on PS1 would be Chocobo Racing and Bakusou Kyoudal Let's and GO!...these are the games i was first introduced as a kid because my friends always played these games...
My favourite is FF7, the PS1 has so many great games and so many great series started on PS1. Its stupid that some people think it's the black sheep or consoles and bad because "graphics" meaning that graphics are the only ghink that matters to them.
With Tail Concerto, it's also worth noting it's had spiritual sequels taking place in the same world with Solatorobo on the Nintendo DS, and now Fuga: Melodies of Steel 1 & 2 on modern consoles, as cameo appearances of the characters from Tail Concerto do appear in Solatorobo
Makes sense, it just looks just like a proto Solatorobo.
@@pyrotictiger9930 This game is great. It made me finish the game so many times to unlock everythings
Ghost in the Shell on the PS1 was amazing.
Einhander is a very, very good game. I don't normally like shooters, but this game makes you want to keep playing. The music is great as well.
My favorite PS1 game is Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night.
Einhander has become stupidly expensive these days. I used to own a copy back in the; don't think I ever beat it though.
One of my favorite games of all time. It’s such a good game.
I still got my OG copy (purchased in 1999) of Thousand Arms. That game was ahead of its time with voice acting and the dating system.
Koudelka is a masterpiece. And the sequel series Shadow Hearts is equally amazing.
a person of culture i see. Good tastes pal !
@@karasushiro2636 Yep, going to get them, my kind of games. Exploring and experiencing games yourself is a good way to come across good ones that you have never heard of before. Doesn't matter if a game is popular or not, good experience is the only thing that matters. But I wish more of these games were popular.
@samtepal3892 I agree about Koudelka. Played it for the first time a few months ago and I was surprised by the quality of the dialogue and characters and how engaging the story was. Shadow Hearts 1, although it leaned more to anime RPG style still had good story and characters. Covenant and From the New World, however, went too far on the crazy scale even for fantasy standards, with FTNW having the most random, nonsensical, lore breaking characters I've ever seen in a videogame, not to mention the bad story and pacing. FTNW is just terrible.
@@leikeylosh i agree that FTNW is a bad sequel and a bad game overall. ^^
Thousand Arms is a beauty, hope it gets someday ported to new consoles, amazing list!
No one else remembers Thousand Arms. Kudos!
Thousands Arms is one of my all time faves on PS1!
Can never forget the first time Muza meets Wyna. XD
I had to click on the video randomly suggested to me, because I was like "That's not Wyna from Thousand Arms, is it?!"
Legend of Legaia is a great title locked to the PSX, and I mean that in the sense that not only has it never been rereleased, but the PS2 doesn't seem to be able to handle the battles without massive slowdown, either. I hope it gets a PS4/PS5 digital re-release someday because its a great JRPG with a "fighting game" like combat engine and some really unique summonable monster designs.
Koudelka is definitely one of the best horror RPGs that’s set in Wales on the PS1.
Big up wales 🏴
I've been into Alundra lately. It's a really good Zelda link to the past type RPG. Highly recommended. Good art style and everything. Puzzles too.
The first Alundra is a timeless Classic and Masterpiece. PS: Just ignore the 2nd Game.
Great list, Einhander was a game that while brutally hard, I just couldn't stop renting and playing. Such a beautiful game. Saga Frontier 2 as well is a stunner on the system, some of the water color backgrounds are some of the most beautiful visuals on the PS1. Panzer Bandit looks really cool, almost like a Playstation version of Vanguard Bandits, but on a single plane.
Still repping The Unholy War until I see it on here. Such an underrated area brawler with a fun campaign.
Ah, I remember that game! It's the one that when it was released in Japan, as "Majokko Daisakusen: Little Witching Mischiefs" it was essentially the same game, but was re-worked/re-skinned to be have a Anime Magical Girl (Maho-shojo) aesthetic and featured characters from a bunch of different famous anime/manga series.
Which is actually pretty different, since most of the time it's Japanese titles that re-worked in an attempt to make it appeal to western audience and not the other way around (although this practice isn't as common nowadays as more and more people are more familiar with Japanese culture and prefer their games to retain it's original look/feel).
So not only could it be featured here as a hidden gem, it also has a pretty interesting and unique story around it as well.Definitely a game worthy of a mention or more detailed look into!
So many games stuck on ps1 like Treasures of the deep. If only we had a vast ps1 classic library to buy on PS4/5 like we did during the PS3 gen.🥺
Funnily enough, I got Evil Zone for my collection not too long ago! Pretty fun. Panzer Bandit looks fun too. I'm always on the look out for good beat em ups. A friend of mine has recommended Koudelka to me and our friend group a few times and I'm aware of its connections to Shadow Hearts. Might have to give it a try soon! Great video as always!
I am always on your channel looking for new hidden treasures and old games to play. Thank you very much
Just listening to your video intro the amazing Tekken 3 soundtrack takes me to that magic era of PS1 and those to-this-day exclusives. Speaking of breathtaking soundtracks Einhander and Rage Racer man those were among my PS1 favorites games. Thanks for your awesome videos as always!!!
Einhander had to be on this. I would instantly buy any system with the official follow up, if that was still a thing. Glad you got to it so early.
Tail Concerto was an incredibly fun game, I'm so glad to see it's fondly remembered.
Tail Concerto I thought nobody remembered that game, how nostalgic.
Such a charming game!
Loved that game and also loved the sort of sequel on the DS😊
Literally the first one that came to mind when I saw the video's title.
Is it the prequel of solatorobo?
@@punkjack4344 apparently they're both part of the Little Tail Bronx series
As always your work is appreciated and my favorite PS1 game is final fantasy tactics
Gorgeous top notch presentation and commentary!
Evil zone was an interesting find for me and i still have the disk stored away to this day. I randomly found it at a flee market and was in one of those old disk envelopes that looked like a brown paper bag. Only really tried it once but honestly had more character with only 2 attack buttons then a lot of others i saw on the system lol.
Great video as usual, your content is so useful! I made a huge list of games to play that I found through your channel
Thanks for the video waiting for Top Ten Must Have Xbox.
Panzer Bandits looks awesome! I’ll need to check this one out! Also, Syphon Filter 2 is such an excellent game. The soundtrack in that game alone kept me coming back for more. Great list of games mentioned here as always man!
Thanks GC! Glad you found something new!
Great game suggestions, I like to hear about games I didn't know about and I didn't know about most of the games mentioned.
Panzer Bandit is amazing and one of my faves for the PS1! You gotta mention Rakugaki Showtime and Mad Stalker if you haven't yet :)
Downloading them now. Hope they are english friendly
Another great video from one of the best videogame channels around.👏🙌
I played Evil Zone and Siphon Filter 1 on a demo. I also remember names like Destrega, Colony Wars, G Police, Ehrgeiz, Overboard, Demolition Racer ^^
In USA overboard is called Shipwreckers
your channel is so satisfying to listen to.
I think Ridge Racer needs a comeback. Yeah, plenty of racing games of which GT sits above, but it was all about RR's ascetic and atmosphere. The jungle/DnB music, the mascot chicks... it has a completely different feel from most other video games really.
Amazing list of games, half I've never even heard of! Subbed for more, thanks for sharing 😎
The first PlayStation’s games library is absolutely stacked with quality and innovation. Truly, one of my top three consoles of all time.
I can vouch for Panzer Bandit. Such a satisfying beatem up to play and great to look at. It’s a huge shame that it was never released in the west.
Great list of games!
Fantastic list of games.
Big shout out for the Musashi Samurai Legend track on the video. That game has an AMAZING soundtrack. Jungle Journey also goes hard.
Panzer Bandit reminds me of Guardian Heroes on the Saturn a bit.
That EvilZone Game looks AMAZING Ridge Racer was a game that I so much wanted back in the day never knew about Rage Racer. I had Type4 Ridge Racer unfortunately never got to play that one. All in all these look amazing Great Vid
Are you recording this footage from an emulator? All the polygons are so smooth with texture filtering. Looks awesome!
Another great retro video list thanks
I definitely remember Koudelka back in the day. Very gothic and definitely a different rpg for the time. Great list.
I can speak on the uniquness of Evil Zone. There is nothing else quite like it. That cat game looks very charming. Thanks for the recommendation.
SaGa Frontier 2 has some great things going for it, but it also has some seriously game-breaking flaws. It's way too easy to get softlocked, it's almost impossible to figure out good skills/abilities without a guide or crazy amounts of dedication, and there are some important missables IIRC. It's one of those games that's so CLOSE to being a hidden gem, but ends up being a very flawed kind of just ok RPG.
Totally agree. I got it because when I saw it I loved the graphic style, but gamewise, it's tedious and punishing and gets "heavy" quickly.
Once again, another great video where I learn of PS1 games I've never played. Tail Concerto looks hilarious.
And expensive as a hell
Evil Zone is one of my favorite games, simple yet deep and fun. The Soundtrack is killer, you used it several times.
Guys, seriously, check this game out and give it a fair chance.
Absolutely a hidden gem. You got the spunky tomboy, Kamen Rider wannabe, emo chick.... Definitely a parody of '90s anime... 😂😂😂
a great game i would love to play a re make then get evil zone 2 that was hinted at in the bonus section.
Always loved Evil Zone as a kid, I still play it and my highest survival mode record is 32 with Ihadurca.
I have all three versions of the game and even the trial disc from Japan.
I have the OST, the drama CD, posters, several telephone cards, two copies of the strategy guide, several game ads from Europe and Japan, the clear files, a few copies of the post cards, soon to be three lapel pins, a copy of the OST that has the characters on the cd and the song Kiss in the Dark by Masami Okui, a Midori character shirt, and lastly but most importantly is a Yukes Staff shirt with Ihadurca on it.
I'll spend the next 20+ years looking for the rest of the merchandise. If I get enough materials, I might also try my hand at creating life-like figures.
Cheers fellow Eretzvaju (Evil Zone) brothers and sisters!
It reminds me of some of the SFC YuYu Hakusho games the way it was explained.
Had no expectations for evil zone when I first played it back in the day with my brother, but it soon became one of our all time favorites!
My brother and I used to play it all the time, I always loved Evil Zone as a kid, I still play it and have for the last 20 years. My highest survival mode record is 32 with Ihadurca.
I have all three versions of the game and even the trial disc from Japan.

Good list especially Thousand Arms, Tail Concerto and Soul of the Samurai
Jus obscure games come to mind, the original Tomba!, Blasto, Jersey Devil, Tale Concerto 1, Armored Core and Ace Combat 1, Fighting Force..a lot of the earlier ps1 games that appeared on Jampack demo discs..the PS Underground discs had Metal Gear Solid and bigger gsmes we've played on other consoles or sold in other console digital shops.
Happy to say I've played and owned about half the games on this list. Will definitely stump for several of them (in particular Evil Zone, Einhander, and SaGa Frontier II).
Thousand Arms ain't too bad either, but the difficulty can be a bit wacky if you don't keep good relationships with the girls. And while Koudelka isn't all that well-known, the sequel series it spawned - Shadow Hearts - was popular enough to get three entries on the PS2 (and sadly, those games are also locked to THAT system and have never been re-released - IIRC, nobody knows who owns the rights to it anymore).
One that I can add to the list is "Silhouette Mirage". Well, I guess it's technically stuck on the PS1 and Saturn, but only the former got a release in the United States. But despite the game's difficulty (largely thanks to Working Designs), I still think it's a lot of fun and has plenty of charm. Damn good soundtrack, too.
9:34 - that very creepy knife-licking enemy being instantly killed was satisfying, lol.
Ridge Racer series drift mechanics are still a mystery to me. The real fun I had with Rage Racer was mastering the tracks using the manual transmission.
theoretically I was just looking for stuff to test RetroArch on... in minecraft. Great timing on this list.
Yes! We're talking about Thousand Arms! Such a dorky Star Wars-style plot from the people who made Tengai Makyo on SNES! I love it and play it every once and a while for the story.
saga frontier 2 is here! 😊 i love that game to bits!
Tail Concerto have a spirutal sequel for the DS called Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, Its really underrated and have an amazing intro and interesting story. Sadly the game is really expensive but I was lucky geting one for 2 dollars when our local hardware store had a clearance. Highly recommend that game if you can find it for cheap. Really fitting for one of your videos.
Great tips on game btw, keep up the good work!
Bought that last month actually, still yet to play it.
Great list, the PS1 has so many great games. Have you covered Silent Bomber yet? One of my favorite action games for the platform
Thanks Joao! I’m not sure but if I haven’t I’ll include it for part 2 🙂
Whoa, never seen something like Thousand Arms! Love the artstyle. Definitely gonna get it. Koudelka is interesting too, a horror RPG. Going to get that too and also Soul of the Samurai.
Great list! Can we get an honorable mention for the Megaman Legends games?😬
I wasn't even aware of Panzer Bandit. It looks like Guardian HEROES but for PS1! Einhander is an absolute masterpiece of a game. The weapon system is an absolute one of a kind and so engaging especially if you opt for the 3 weapon manipulator arm. I don't know if I'd ever want a remake or even remaster of any of my favorite PS1 games because they are still so great the way they are. I don't know if modern graphics would look right.
I loved oddball offshoot things of (at the time) decade long franchises like Chocobo Dungeon 2, Choco Racing, Bomberman Fantasy Racing, R Type Delta, Xevious 3/Dg+,, RayStorm and Ray Crisis. Then original gems from CyberConnect Silent Bomber and Tail Concerto (DS Sequel out there Red Solatoroba). Tomba 1 and 2 amazing! Guardian's Crusade one of my fav RPGs, easy and fun- but a unique feel and doesn't overstay welcome. Threads of Fate and Legend of Dragoon, I.S. Internal Section, X2 (Sequel of Amiga game) has amazing graphics like Einhander, but hard!
Im currently trying out Thousand Arms...it really IS impressive with its smooth animation in certain dialouge scenes and combat.
I find myself really digging this style of dialogue transition and kinda wish there were more RPGs that would go with TA's style instead of merely using bust portraits.
And, im gona be a nitpicker...but its Meis (pronounced "Mice" in game). Though, your pronounciation sounds better, honestly. :)
Really good stuff, some new games for me. Thanks. The PS1 is a great system that got me back into video games after high school.
Glad you found some new games!
OH!!! Rage Racer!!!! man this is my first "RIDGE RACER" game when i was in highschool...though its really hard and i remember i used gameshark for money cheat..i really tired and lazy to race again and again for not so big prize money then the upgrades cost alot..hahaha and for Soul of the Samurai this one is like Onimusha and scared me right at the first part..though i cant remember if i beat it...thankfully i do have it on my PSP so maybe if i have a free time..ill gonna play it again.. anyways Nice Video SIR!!!! I LOVE IT!!!...
Currently playing Thousand Arms. Such a fantastic game. Cozy too.
My buddy and I loved playing both bushido blade games. I have fond memories of them.
Einhander was so fun and its soundtrack still holds up!
hadn't heard of rage racer before! thank you!
also, guys, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 is a PS1 must play. it came as a double disc with a 60 fps rerelease of the first ridge racer! R4 has fun little dialogue sequences as a part of the campaign/career mode. not to mention the s tier music.
Excelente trabajo.Muy buen video.
Looking forward to pt2! 👍
You should make a video like this for the original xbox, mostly for the sake of talking about jet set radio future
Been wanting to try Tail Concerto out for a bit now, and might finally do so soon.
RagnarRox did a great analysis of Koudelka
Please make timecodes for the games in the video :)
For me there is also Overboard and Circuit Breaker. Also Silent Bomber and Bushido Blade.
So many great games are stuck on that legendary console!! I wish Tail Concerto got the Metroid Remaster treatment. It would be BEAUTIFUL. Love your videos as always!
I love how the video title includes "stuck" while clearly running the games in an emulator at a much higher resolution with texture filtering/the "wobble" fix applied etc. so the games aren't technically "stuck" if you own a computer made in the last millennium and an Internet connection. I see nothing ethically wrong with downloading games that are no longer available on the primary market (enriching a bloated "retro" market doesn't provide a cent to the original developers of the game). That being said, if a game is re-released and you enjoy it, you should buy it, I own more than a few emulation collections/remasters (including the excellent Metroid Prime remaster that I impulse bought the night it released), but I'm not going to pay a prince's sum for a used copy of a 20+ year old game, especially when none of that money goes to the original developer.
all of those are rock solid classics
Ahh.. the ps1. What a gem.
One of the greats!
I played a lot of Ridge Racer back in the day. Never heard of Rage Racer
It’s well worth giving a go if your a fan of the series 🙂
Soul of the Samurai is my first PS1 game. I loved this game so much that I was looking for another game like this when I got PS2. It has parry system, skill and New Game+ for replayability. Glad that I found Onimusha.
I have to check out some of these games especially Panzer Bandit.
Oh nice! I've not heard of some of these. Thousand Arms looks unique. I need to try some of these. I've been playing Breath of Fire 3 again. Only on PS1 and portable. Best in the series by a longshot and way ahead of its time. I dare say if I played that and FF7 for the first time today they'd be bumping heads.
I just bought bof3 again... soooo good
Evil Zone and Einhander were my go to. Still have the discs. I hope some day someone might wanna remake/remaster them ;w;
Einhänder, R-Type Delta, Thunder Force V, Space Shot and Geki-oh The Shooting King 👑
Liking the look of panzeer bandit, has a guardian heros kind of look to it, which can't be a bad thing
Just started to watch the video and I'm completely sure you'll mention Vagrant Story. Don't let me down.
Brave Fencer Musashi is a game id love to see remastered or even re released
You're using duckstation right? Those graphics looks so soft and so beautiful, like a N64 game 😍
Breath of Fire III. one of the few games i played again and again and again
One of the bosses from Einhander appeared In Kingdom Hearts III, which was a nice surprise.
theres a certain charm sprite games had on ps1 that i will forever love
Such a nice aesthetic!
The PS1 library is still my favorite followed by the PS2... Those four times game developers had such an amazing creativity bandwidth with so many different and unique experiences we've been stripped out of for so long and only recently we're seeing the same returning with the indies. I'll definitely give it a try for that last game when I'm done with FFVII :) looking forward for a part two since your lists are the best hands down!
What's the other two times?
Woah I really like panzer Bandit. I used to play it with my best friend.
Ohhh evil zone was a fun time!
Einhander is an amazing game, the music is also excellent. Hope they release it for the PS PREMIUM games soon.
Keep em comin'!
More on the way!
You also got Vagrant Story, Tobal, Final Fantasy Tactics (the best one)
Also in Evil Zone your attack can change if you hold or double tap the attack button. i think it might have been the first fighting game to have dynamic cut scenes in battle. for nearly all moves. i think dragon ball final bout came out earlier than evil zone but the camera only changed for the big special moves or meteo. either way it was among the first fighting games to have the camera change for moves. something arks systems has done since guilty gear xrd.
Are you using an Emulator that cleans up the 3D textures for this footage? Cus I don't remember the actual PS1 ever looking this clean before.
SaGa Frontier 2 absolutely needs to be remastered like the other SaGa games have been recently. Such an underrated gem of a game and easily my favorite SaGa game.
