Have you seen many of Lori Torrini's videos? You could try target training the lizards, or making a play station with things for them to explore that you can change up often. They're already used to the idea of you bringing them food, so you're halfway there. It's awesome to see your passion for their wellbeing and educating people about how animals need enrichment.
Im pretty curious about the video coming up. btw I'm gonna be adopting a baby bearded dragon we already have a 20/30 gal enclosure and when it gets older we'll move him into a 50 gal. That's it, hope you have a lovely day! 🦎
For me its just kinda amazing that they already have some sort of list of strategies in their heads, like, basil not being able to grab the worm, instantly trying out hand
You should try building puzzles etc out of lego. Use the bigger block to create something similar to a house with 4 to 5 rooms with food inside. Watch her rip the building apart to get to the food.
Captive habitat enrichment it's of paramount importance to the well-being of every type of animal, not only mammalians, but birds, reptiles, fishes, and invertebrates too. Thank you for having underlined this fundamental concept!!!💚
For my enclosure build I am planning to add a full weather-System with wind, rain and changing lighthues depending on the daytime. Basicly this enables me do even add things like lightning oder flashes of light with heavy rain etc
My kitty loves these, she had them figured out in around a minute, haven’t tried my beardies yet…. My beardies smell is way better than I thought too , my male and female come out and explore separately but follow each other’s path around the house, neat-o QOTD: I’d love to see more reptiles in public, out in the sun exploring, harnessed if necessary, but allow them to explore real grass, trees, sand etc I love taking my kids out and spreading the word on how great they are when people aren’t too scared lol
This is a awesome, I give lots of toys to my conure parrot ($100s spent on toys lol) but seeing the same kinda toys in with the lizards amazed me lol I didn't know they'd play with them too!
There’s a guy who posted videos of these (wild) cockatoos solving puzzles that he made for them. It would be cool to see if the monitors were able to take on a puzzle like that!
It's the great Maker's Muse. He has a 3D printing channel, and he made something like 3 videos printing stuff for them. m.ua-cam.com/video/3L3VJjv2x4I/v-deo.html Here's one
Obstacle course for food and maybe food along the way perhaps🤔 Food along the way to keep it going and to stimulate its brain to complete the obstacle course
I don't remember which animal it was, I think it was blue beauty snakes but on snake discovery they gave them a puzzle like this too. Not sure if you've seen the video but it's so awesome you did this as well! 😊
I loved this video! It’s amazing, you can see the gears working in their head. You can see how intelligent they are by how they interact with the puzzle. So since monitor lizards occasionally have to chase prey in the wild, is there a safe way to introduce a harder-to-catch prey animal that the tree monitors might have to chase? I imagine it would be both fun and enriching, not to mention some good exercise!
If they're easily handled, you could put them in a bathtub with a couple fast roaches (remember to cover the drain to prevent the bugs from escaping that way). Another option might be to put a flighted insect, like a moth, in their enclosure, which would be a little harder to catch than something that just runs. Smaller juveniles could be given cardboard toilet paper tubes that are taped fo a larger flat piece of board into a tunnel system that's set down into a plastic bin with a handful of crickets, so they have to hunt through the tubes.
@@cristiaolson7327 Nice ideas! Another thought occurred to me: what about crickets in the enclosure? If they can safely eat them, some speedy hoppers like crickets might be a fun challenge for the green monitor lizard.
They are wicked smart. My Varanus panoptes horni once opened his own enclosure. Which was sorta locked. Then he proceeded too open serveral rat enclosures some of which where drawerlike lab cages. Other normal plastic rat breeders. He ate 22 juvenile rats that day.
My savannah monitor has the same issue, he gets hung up on a spot that he got the food from but still smells like it. I got him one of the just sliding style ones. I saw that one but it looked too complex. I recommend cat treat balls for bugs. There is a good one you can make the openings really small.
You do SO much to enrich your animals, the only thing I can think of that you could try is target training. And maybe harness training and taking them outside. I do this with my lace monitors, don't know if it's something you can do because they are alot smaller, but I know my Lacey's love going outside and digging and climbing and smelling all the new scents. I live in Australia though, can't wait to get my own green tree monitors!
Have you ever watched the Octolab videos? They come up with all sorts of intelligence tests and games for the octopuses (it's not octopi anymore). You might get some ideas for Basil and Sabzi.
I am so happy! 😃 This video popped up in my recommendations today and I am definitely subscribed now. I learned so much from one video and I am looking forward to seeing more. Thank you. 😊
Wow its so cool! You could geht them a ball for dogs with holes in it for treats. Think that would be pretty interesting to watch. You do a really amazing Job D!
Awesome! I think you should, as you said, keep on using the same puzzle. But maybe recording the time it takes for them to solve it would be quite interesting ;) (Sorry if i'm not being accurate, English is not my 1st language).
An amazing way to interact with the viewers on this topic would be if you would get a 3D printer, or if a nearby friend could print out things for you. Then, we could send you STL files (the 3D model to print) and you could choose your favorite ones to print for these two cute babies to play with.
@@Reptiliatus yeah, creators could make you different designs of puzzles, you could get views of people interested in 3D printing, and maybe potential contests voted by viewers giving some kind of prize to the winner. You know, just a shoutout in the videos is sometimes enough... Lol Then the bois would have unlimited toys to play, and the channel would have more interactive. If I were you, I would get a Creality Ender 3 for some 250 bucks, and wait for us to flood you with different designs. One kilo of PLA material is around 20 to 50$, and trust me, with a Kg you have plenty of material to make several objects... Don't hesitate to ask me whatever doubt you have on this. Of course, I'm not trying to convince you, or compromise on that!
Awesome video. Love to see enrichment. I have a Green Keeled Belly Lizard who reminds me of a smaller version of your monitors! He's very intelligent and active. Now I'm thinking about how to enrich his life. 💚 Thanks! 😊
Really amazing. You can create a water puzzle for them. You can use not too deep water and test if they can get into the water to get the food. My bearded dragon could pick insects off of the water surface. I don’t know about deeper water though.
love your videos and the animals❤️. I thought of a way to inrich the monitor by putting a aquatic area in the bottom and fill with feeder fish would stimulate them by making them hunt as stalk the feeder fish 🐟🦎❤️
Awesome! The only other reptiles I’ve seen on video to try and succeed in solving similar puzzles are indigo snakes. I think however the monitor wins. Reminds me almost more of a cat and a dog because of the use of his hands which is more prevalent in cats than dogs. His hands are much more well-built and coordinated the dogs paw.
Anyone know how hard green tree monitor to keep I have 13 years in reptile hobby but only a few months in keeping larger reptiles I just want an opinion before I could potentially waste my time researching

Funny I literally just watched a video yesterday from Brian Barczyk where his son uses the exact same puzzle on 2 of their monitors at the Reptarium and they were able to figure it out too, his one monitor Elvis was particularly good at it as well. I believe they stuffed it with chicken breasts.
Dogs are way smarter as a lizard is not gonna help protect you or even understand your emotions are even care about you! ' it's not clear for a lizard to find treats as there smells are better than a human lol
