  • You see the title, and you may have seen this watch reviewed elsewhere. In case you have not, I won't spoil a video that took me quite a long time to film and edit, but this watch is quite pricey considering what is under the hood. No, wait, this isn't a car. Well, it is under the dial. Either way, watch, enjoy, eat some ice cream while doing so, and let me know what you think of the William Wood Valiant down in the comment section below, after you have subscribed, hit that notification bell and of course, shared this with your closest friends and 1000 other people. :-)

What do you think of the William Wood Valiant? Does everything else about the watch justify the price, or is someone just plain crazy?

Compare this with an Ollech & Wajs, at a similar price or with a Steinhart for half the price and ETA elaboré movements. These guys are way too greedy.

  • @cecilyau4440
    @cecilyau4440 3 роки тому +3

The pricing is not defensible. Nicely designed watch, but you have to look at the totality of the watch, which includes the movement. I am a big fan of the Seiko NH35 and microbrands, but this doesn’t make sense. I think it’s indicative of the company’s thinking that upgrading from a $30 NH35 to a $200 SW200, all else being the same, warrants a price increase of $600. The firefighter focus and backstory, however, does have value, and perhaps the movement/price disconnect will only bother watch enthusiasts.

I love these watches! The designs are really unique and beautiful!! The chronos are dynamite to look at! But the 900-3000 price ranges are little to much for me. Love the watches though!

    • @watchreport

I feel with all it has to offer and the unique look, if they just put in even a miyota 9015 over the NH35, it would be a lot more palatable.

It's ironic that people would drop thousands on quartz watches made by some "prestigious" brands, with some hideously looking quartz movement sitting under their bonnet, yet frawn at simple yet fairly precise and reliable mechanical movement of NH35. Makes no sense.
Great watch, excellent background story and smart thinking of upcycling retired firefighter equipment like helmet and hoses.

I’m not the type to grouse about price or think the movement necessarily makes the watch but I’m not seeing value here. I’d kindly suggest Johnny put down the crack pipe.

These guys make some nice watches but their prices are way out of wack. Luv their upcoming chrono designs but at 3K plus it does not make sense. If you want a very high quality microbrand watch with industry ETA movements check out Detroit Watch Company.

In my opinion, William Wood miss one of the advantages of a microbrand. The advantage being, value packed into a watch with a unique design
language. I think these are beautiful watches (the purple one they released a while ago was spectacular), but there is nothing here that speaks
to value or a design unique enough to justify the price. Thanks for the honest breakdown.

The asking price is insane for a chinese made watch with a cheap NH35 movement...therese just nothing that backs this up...not even brand heritage.

I believe that all the assembly happens in the UK, and the material all comes from UK original firefighter equipment. Obviously the movement is cheap but it works well.

@@TheJebacgodine still its only a ultra cheap Seiko movement. There's a ton of Swiss watches, thou the case might not be made in Switzerland, that carry a 2824, a much better movement, for a lower price. Other than any sentimental thing, I cant imagine, why anyone would pauly retail for this watch.

I gave myself 6 months to think about it before I went through with the purchase. I love the design and couldn’t find similar watch that I liked just as much. First think I noticed is how thick it is and the color of the watch is darker in my hands than in the pictures on the site.
I feel like I over paid for the watch but I am happy with the purchase. I love the watch but not the brand and can not see myself spending that much again for a William Wood watch.

I actually really like the watch. It looks good. I would totally buy it. At a fair price. You are dead on. They did a good job on the watch, but they are seeking to be compensated as if they did a phenomenal job using phenomenal components.

How many small boutique watches can you buy for that sort of price and design. Seiko mike nice watches but they are not designer watches like that. This is the reality of small brands and their pricing.
You can buy furniture that is mass produced by a major corporation or you can buy furniture made by a small local company that costs more.

@@bighands69 these watches have third party off the shelf movements inside. So they are very expensive for a novel design, crown and recycled rubber strap. Like I said they are very cool and nice watches, but expensive when compared with other micro brands, who are their direct competitors. There are literally thousands of small micro brands doing very similar things for less money.

I think this watch is probably going to appeal to those who work in or around firefighting, for me, i look at their straps and see they're asking 140 USD for a strap, I see how the price of these watches is got to. Don't see the value, not really interested in the firefighting design cues, its just an overpriced watch with nothing for me to justify it. Once you go down this rabbit hole, it never ends. Why does this watch with a SW200 cost 1500 while this is sub 1000? A lot depends on where the watches are manufactured. If they are using Chinese manufactioners, then yes, not a price value.
