This post is proof of your bias towards Figma, despite your claim of no a bias report. It's also noticeable in your monolog. You also don't separate pros from amateurs, like comparing sushi restos without considering budget (ie expectation/expertise). That being said i appreciate you data presented (however also mixing pros/amateurs). However, I'd say your data is inherently biased to Figma which will have more amateurs and thus more web presence in search etc. Like saying McDonalds is great because so many ppl go there. So Long Story Short, if you're showing a neck and neck race between Figma and Adobe XD, id give the win "hands down" to Adobe (your data is probably biased by more than 2x (armature to pro ratios are 10:1 if not more). For the record, you're not the only one, infact very common now (who am i'm. pros from the hard - real time embedded prog space so no bias in the Web space, which is still a mess in the dev tools imo... because of the number of amateurs).

@@gregd6022 I have to agree. Also, Google Trends proves nothing about the apps usage. That data is only related to queries on the search engine. There is no direct correlation.

@Mizko Man, this video is epic! Totally comprehensive and I agree with you. Personally, I've been using Figma for low and mid-fidelity prototypes, while XD for high-fi ones. This is because earlier stages of prototyping require most collaboration, while in high-fi I'm more concerned with delivering to dev teams.
Thanks again for sharing, mate! You're super valuable to our community.

The Adobe CC ecosystem is so powerful. XD directly integrates with industry leading tools and that advantage is never going away. It's a very powerful selling point. I believe we are going to see that asset developed. For instance with direct native video editing support from Premiere, just like you have seamless PSD and AI integration today for vector and bitmap graphics. The possibilities are endless. Figma's got a slight advantage on the live collaboration part as they were early to get that established, but I don't like the prototyping features in Figma.

Nice comment. I've been using Adobe XD since they were called Project Comet. I've used Adobe XD on large scale projects with cloud files, design system and multiple designers all designing at the same time, on the same canvas with Co-edit enabled mode. Both tools are great and supports collab.

I tried entering the same Google Trends search as you show in the beginning -- it showed me a vastly different chart (Sketch on top around 60, Figma and XD far below at 10 and 2). I tried all kinds of minor changes (capitalization, term menu etc) but none changed the shape of the graph -- I had to look very closely to see: you have figma and xd entered as "search terms" and only Sketch as "Software".
I'm not a Google Trends expert, obviously figma and sketch have other meanings - but seems like they should all be compared as Topic or Software - but I dont know how to do this, anybody?

    • @into18
      @into18 2 роки тому +5

This is because sketch is used as a keyword of "sketching" things. so sketch has different meanings. when you choose in google trends a keyword it gives you some options which word you mean. for example for figma it shows the option software. if you choose the right search word it shows the same results as mizkos. only that figma is even more ahead of the others

It took me awhile to go away from Photoshop. I had access to XD, and would try it out here and there, but just wasn't ready for change. I finally made the leap, and haven't looked back. The ability to not only create your design, but being able to link everything together and test it extremely easily, made getting into the user mindset so much better. I like Figma as well, but XD is my go to.

Figma is great for collaboration but XD is better for UI prototyping. Sketch has dug their own grave by being a proprietary application for Mac OS. All other UI editors today are cross platform compatible so Sketch are running behind. There's alot of people from different areas of digital media coming into the UX sphere today and most of them are W10 users, I've also experienced stakeholders that wants to engage in the design files and they are always glad to know that I'm using a cross platform compatible tool set and file formats that runs on all systems.

Nice video. I'm a web designer & developer. I have used both, XD & Figma. Its safe to say that with the plugins, there is almost no difference between the apps.
But, i prefer Figma: i can visualize so easy my prototypes with mirror app, i can apply multiple grids on the same artboard (frame), i can inspect elements on real time (without needing to create a link, like in XD), i can create multiple drop shadows (fancy but useful), the components-variants-autolayout last update was amazing.
Of course, XD has cool things: its not a web app (it's faster), it has a great integration with after effects (useful when i need advanced motion design), 3D movement in the last update.
I guess the tool should be selected thinking in your workflow.

@nabil libre In that case, i would work with Cinema 4D & Spline 3D, i have been making some experiments last week, it's incredible.
I model the objects in Cinema 4D, i export them in .obj format.
Then, import them in Spline 3D for use it in the web, i add triggers, interaction, events.
If you need advance animations but you care about performance, i recomend you 'lottie', it's an extension for After Effects, it's super easy, it exports your animation in a json file for the web.
Next week i will try a new tool, the name is Rive App, it seems fantastic for web animation & interaction.
Hope this can be helpful for you.

    • @bobbradleybell
      @bobbradleybell 2 роки тому

@nabil libre Don´t you worry, my friend, ask as many questions as you need.
      ------
'Rive app is an alternative like the others you mentioned (spline cinema 4d) to the three.js library?'
Well, not exactly, i haven´t use Rive App yet, but i have seen a lot of creations from other designers. Rive is for 2D animations, of course, you can always make 2D animations that look like 3D. The cool stuff about Rive App is that they implemented something called 'states', which means you can configure every animation depending of the user action (and oobviously performance).
      --------
'Is it a long journey to learn them?'
Cool Question. I want to share a secret with you. I'm 22 years old now but when i was 17 i studied so hard every day/night, and of course i was advancing in Web Development, 3D and Web Design.
When i was 18, i made a reflection: I wanted to learn faster but also better. So i implemented a new foundation in my study method: DOCUMENTATION:
      1. Now i organize my Learning Path of every technology i want to learn, it make's it so easy to never get lost (I use something cool you might want to try: FigJam from Figma). There is a image for you to see: i.imgur.com/WoFc0wY.png
      2. I use ShareX to capture images and GIF about things i dont want to forget i make my own docs in 3 apps: Notion, Gitbook and my favorite: Obsidian.md
Here is an example of what i'm talking: www.notion.so/mrbryanbell/Deformadores-6de7966c9d164fa08559bcf164415b8f
      3. I use Anki. It's important to make documentation, but also to study them in a ''properly way', this video will show you what i'm talking about: ua-cam.com/video/W-EpiaPcgTk/v-deo.html
      --------
Following this things, i promess to you that every new technology you learn will be easier.
Glad to know you are a curious man (me too).

Sketch is the OG and is REALLY good... but Figma is extremely similar, multiplatform, etc... so sadly I dont find Sketch sustainable even though I am WAY faster in Sketch than Figma. XD is ok just because it comes with Cloud but it doesnt compare with where Figma is going.

Very underrated software. Used it for years for the web and jumped into Figma. There was even group of ethusiasts writing their own extensions to keep up with modern standards, like SVG support. TBH, Adobe never had a proper tool for the web design - Photoshop was always jack-of-all-trades software, ImageReady was always a Fireworks's shadow and confusing for photoshoppers; while the Fireworks, shortly after Macromedia acquisition, was dropped; Live Motion - died prematurely but wasn't great anyway, Muse - Dreamweaver for dummies (dud), quite promising but not properly planned Edge Animate turned to 3 pieces and was canceled. I remember XD appeared after Edge but then I just lost patience and trust in Adobe's vision for design tools for the web. Expected XD to die out like everything else on this list. But to my surprise it's still on. Well, a bit too late for me, sorry Adobe - too many good options already from companies who have also much more appealing pricing model).

The lag and bloat the app adds to your machine is terrible. I can't save fixed links. I can transfer files when leaving a role. I can't even duplicate a main component. There still isn't even proper object styles for consistency. Simple things like reordering a component list or pushing changes to a main component. Basically if you want to do product design at a professional level, avoid XD at all cost.

Adobe XD isn't free. Unless you mean free trial. You can't collaborate unless you have an active adobe cloud subscription. Which is why I stopped using and supporting Adobe ever since they changed to this stupid subscription model. I have found much better alternatives.

XD is free, you can design in it for free.

Figma will follow the same steps as Sketch.
In the short term, smaller companies will innovate faster, but in the long run, Adobe will ALWAYS win. That is the sad truth.

We'll have to see! Figma has raised over $200M. If they are smart with their decisions, they might be able to fight the long haul. Let's see how this all pans out :) In the end ,aslong as we can design UI - I'm not too worried about who takes the lead.

@@exgeeinteractive pretty well, still getting updates, new features almost every month, still has a huge user base, still an industry standard. I don't get your point. Also it's been only 10 months. That is not "the long haul".

Adobe XD need 100 more years to become equivalent of figma. No comparison please.

Lovely comment until FIGMA sold their company to ADOBE in next 3-7 years then ADOBE killed it just like they did with Macromedia products . These days CEO and Board member only loyal to MONEY .
