    Good thing I watched your video. Didn't know it had THREE filters. Only ordered the two in the back but ordered the third one after watching your great video. Thank you.

    Hey there. In one of your segments door MB 450 GLS you mentioned two reasons why you can't retract the rear electric brake pistons. A) if you have the parking brake on and b) if you press on the brake pedal. I found another reason. Your maintenance service light is on. Ps I enjoy your videos and they have saved me a lot of money.
    Thank you
    Cristo.

    You have the 2 smaller ones you put in first backwards. The blue should be facing down. I bought the same filters and the arrows point opposite of the blue, just as the single big one.

      If you watch the video, at 2:15, it shows the installation slots built in to the new filters. They can only be installed one way, which is how it was done. If you try to put the blue side of the filter down, there’s no way you could clear the plastic positioning spikes.

      I was finding the same problem, my filters have the great slots but the arrow is pointing up toward the blue side away from the slots….but a second look has me noticing the fan underneath where filters go so this would be correct for air flow I believe

      It’s been so long that I actually don’t remember. Plus our Mercedes has been in the body shop since July waiting on one little part that they are telling us cannot be made available until 2024, not 2023, 2024. Anyway assuming we ever do get the Mercedes back it would be just about time to do another B service so I will verify everything again.

      @@pinkcaddygarage267 Just did the full replacement with Hengst filters. I found OEM Mann filters in place, and after comparing the orientation, it's safe to say that the matched, inner pair needs to be placed with the blue side down, and slotted openings facing up. The first of the two filters installed needs to rest on the lip and slide over, just as the Mann with the holes. This permits the depressions in the filter media to face up, matching the Mann. Both the inner two filters and larger, outer filter need to follow the printed arrows with airflow moving down and toward the cabin. The Mann filter PNs are A 166 830 02 18 (CU 25 002) and A 166 830 82 00. Hope all that's useful to someone.

    Thanks for the video. Question, I leased Mercedes for many years prices are crazy for new leases so I now purchased a used 2018 GLS 450 with 35,000 in great shape. I didnt get the maintenance package because it was too much. Can I do my own maintenance? Thanks for any help.

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  2 роки тому +1

      Short answer, yes. You can probably do whatever you feel comfortable with, most service A and B items we’ve already covered in a video as I was doing it for the first time. Whatever you aren’t comfortable with, there is always the dealership. I did the same thing as you, did not purchase an extended warranty. We now have 67,000 miles and so far, so good.

    How long does it take to change plugs on 2011 450 gl
    Original plugs changed at 75k now have 160 k miles.
    How long does it take to replace a starter.
    Saw starters on ebay 120 to 500 dollars..do you need to take front apart or can you manage to take starter out without doing all that.
    How many hrs should it take? Can the starters be the same?

      @pinkcaddygarage267  Рік тому

      Sorry I’ve never worked on a 450 GL so I don’t know the answers to your questions. But you can go to a website like rockauto.com and check part numbers between the various cars to see if it is the same part.

    Pink Candy - I have a 2019 Mercedes GLS 450. I drove over 3 hours straight non stop and the Engine temperature gauge went up to near the red indicator. I pulled over to allow the engine to cool down. I noticed the fan was not kicking in to cool the system. This has happened three different times now. My SUV has less than 15k miles. The first rime it happened was about one year ago. I took the SUV to the dealership but they told me that Mercedes Engine temperature gauge runs normally high. I am now thinking the Thermostat or the Fan is not working properly. What is your recommendation on this matter? Thank you.

    • @pinkcaddygarage267
      @pinkcaddygarage267  Рік тому

      The dealer will tell you as long as it stays out of the red you are OK, and I guess technically that is true. However our 2017 GLS does not get as high as yours sounds like it does. I would hook up a scanning software that tells you in real-time what the value is for engine temp. That will save you from guesswork.
      If you don’t have one, I would check:
      Coolant level
      Thermostat… not sure how you’d check it , short of replacement.
      Fan fuses/relays
      Hope that helps!

      It is a good first step. However, you may have mold or other things inside the system it will have to be cleaned out to completely make the smell go away.
