"I will always remember that smell and that sound" So many of us love Petrolicious because we can relate with the sentiment. I'm 42 now but still remember clearly the smell and sound of my dad's '67 GTO when he would run me around at 5yrs old. For car aficionados, these sense memories always stick with us and Petrolicious once again beautifully transcribes this story that could easily be any one of us. And BTW, that has to be one of the most striking Renault 8's I've ever seen. Very cool.
Yes I remember very well the smell of my dad's 68 Rambler when he used to gather us kids up and would just run the car in the garage. I would start feeling sleepy and a little euphoric even. My dad would get so emotional he'd start tearing up and then shut off the engine. Good times, good times.
You know, I really enjoy that every so often, Petrolicious will introduce us to a non-American, non-English speaking Petrolhead, and allow them to tell us their story and share with us their car, and allows them to do it in their native tongue. Good on ya, chaps.
Aaron Hussain absolutely! He's making it sound like most people are even familiar with a Gordini. In America they're practically obsolete. The only reason I've heard of it is because I was lucky enough to see an early 50's Gordini Type 24 at a concourse in Europe (and oh my! What a strikingly gorgeous automobile!)
Let's not forget his mother, who held onto it for all those years. She could have decided to sell it on numerous occasions but instead gave her son the opportunity to bond with his father.
I was born in in communist Romania, under Ceausescu regime. My father had a Dacia 1100 , the romanian version 1/1 of Renault 8. He took me home from nursery in that car, an I grew in it. Rear engine , rwd , the smell...the sound of that 1,1 engine, was my lullaby trough my childhood. Great car presented here, very powerful story.
My father has told me that he had a Renault R8 (I wasn't born yet at that time), actually I never saw it. He told me he put a R10 gearbox to the car. In this days you can't find one in my country. I would like to have one of these vintage cars. Great video
Such amazing little cars. The handling, the light steering, those squishy comfortable seats...any car enthusiast should get to drive one once in their life. Fun little cars! Goes like a spanked cat.
Another beautiful film as always! Renault is an underappreciated brand especially in the US where many models were never sold. They have a beauty all their own. That concave hood is a truly special design feature that I love!
R8s are fantastic cars I had a £50 banger I fitted a R12ts engine straight in and ran it for a few years and loved every minute of driving it enthusiastically every where I was 18 at the time there was an endless stream of 8s and 16s in those days and I regret not keeping them cos they are very rare nowadays 36 years later hindsight is a wonderful thing I just never had any
I had one, came with a defective 5 speed which I replaced with a standard 4 speed due to lack of money. The 1300cc engine with dual double throat carbs gave it enough oomph to cope with much bigger engined cars of the same era. Great car!
Omg! Omg! I’m so excited to watch this! My first car ever was a ‘66 R8 with flared fenders! It was built to look more like a Gordini. Oh how I miss that car. One of my biggest regrets is not keeping that car forever.
*Une des magnifiques légendes qui sont nées en France, il faut avouer que nous, Français, avons aussi une bonne culture Automobile* *One of the great legends that were born in France, we need to admit we French people, also have a good car culture*
Yes, so much that it was the French who provided the terms: Garage, Sedan, Chauffeur, Coupé, Sedan De Ville, and even the word Internet, just in case you were asking.
I love the way he drifts the car on these narrow south France country roads even though he put a lot of effort into the car!Must had a lot of stints on the famous and lovely Paul Richard racing circuit!
I enjoyed this episode because I owned a Renault 8 for several years in the late 1960s. It started my love affair with small "hot" sedans and hatchbacks. I now own a 2006 MINI Cooper JCW -- the last model with a supercharger. (The later models use a turbocharger). Yes, it is 12 years old but it receives excellent care by a MINI shop that specializes in 2002-2006 MINIs.
Oh my god, the memories ! A friend of mine and my older bro, was the first one to own a car of us all friends" Yes, a school bus yellow R8. Roll painted with a huge flat black stripe, center painted front to back, black wheels, yellow Marchal fog lamps and to top it all, a Stebro exhaust ( brappps, brappps). Yep, an obviously fake Gordini. But man, it looked so cool. One Friday hot summer night, we, 4 young turks, go, you know, cruising down the hot spots downtown. Red light, a guy comes up beside us. Claude revs the poor thing as a joke. Light turns green, the bloody idiot goes as hell in his Acid Green 'Cuda 440 ! We laugh our heart out, even so when we see a cop pulling the guy over... and us. Cop comes to us: "ya guys were drag racing" ! "Aaaah, sir, this car has, kinda 40, maybe 45hp. We're 4 guys weighing, what, 165 lbs each. You're kidding, right ? " Blank faced cop goes "ok, smart asses, go away. But I'm watching you idiots" And then proceeds to give a ticket to the 'Cuda moron. That was some 45 odd years ago. When we all meet, we can't go without remembering that evening and still laugh it out loud ! Wives... not so much. Oh well. Gender kind o' thing I guess...
Grandpas from both side of the family owned said model of cars. Both of them were passionate. Both had their shares of crashes. I have one in my barn, i take it out at least once a month.
IZzelYy shame they got rid of the yellow headlights aswell. I used to love seeing them whenever we went to France. I remember having to help my dad paint the lights on the car before we were allowed into France.
My one and only 'new' car purchase.. guess ? Yes, I was one of a few who purchased a new Renault R5. Dark blue, grey cloth seats, throw back 'rag' roof.. Was wonderful driving on Rt1 Big Sur,night time with top fully back . Immediately removed the catalytic pipe piece in place of a straight thru..lastly placed on a nice little small diameter race wheel. I know that purchase was strongly inspired by years of lusting after racy R8's and Gordini's .
This was a hero from the Renault Cup 8 TS which forged and helped many pilots from Europe. Those who speak ill of Renault should learn more, they are very beginners.
When I was 17 and learning to drive this was one of the cars I was loaned to learn in and I gotta say I liked the way it handled and it did ooozze character and quirky handling and i remember thinking it would be fun to modify and go racing even though I thought it was ugly !
I don't know whether it was mentioned that Renault had their own racing series for the R 8 Gordini from 1965 to 1970. And how many talents have been sorced by that series like jean pierre beltoise and others. So the historic background is more than just a pimped up Renault 8 or Dacia 1100 like some people write. It is not a rally car at first sight but a racing series car for driving constantly fast at e.g. Paul Ricard , Spa Francorchamps and so on .
Very well done! Nice to see some good dynamic shots of the car. Only the engine noise could be a bit more for me. Still, very nice story, well told and filmed. Beautiful car!
My dad inherited a "Daf 33" when his father passed away. Google it if you don't know this car... ;) He sold it one year after I was born in '87 thinking it was a mere piece of rusty crap... He started to regret it by the time I started to show interest in cars aged only four...
What a great story. Sadly, in the US, Renault had a big problem with road salt, and most Renaults rusted away quickly. They eventually left the US market. The Renault 5 was their last model, although we also got the 12 and 16. The new Megane RS has a setting to simulate the exhaust sound of an R8, which is a nice touch.
"I dont have to learn english, everyone speaks english!" says a frenchman in french to a nodding chinese man, who just sold him diesel instead of petrol. Xi Xi. Edit: Great content as usual, thats a nice car!

Eric Hakanson yeah you're right dude
You know, I really enjoy that every so often, Petrolicious will introduce us to a non-American, non-English speaking Petrolhead, and allow them to tell us their story and share with us their car, and allows them to do it in their native tongue. Good on ya, chaps.
I love the French Petrolicious videos, they seem much more genuine.
A very underrated car amongst petrolheads, we should definitely recognise the 8 Gordini more!
Why, exactly? What did this car ever accomplish, besides being a "sporty" version of the mediocre Renault 8?
We meet again on this video lol
Tang Stew oh hey Tang! 😂 I kinda lost my cool making that comment on Seb's video... how's your 528i? :)
Tang Stew I'm doing fine thanks, and I agree, that other guy was talking out of his ass!
Brings back memories, my first new car was a Renault 8S way back in 1970. It was a fun car to drive, I can't believe it was 50 years ago!
Let's not forget his mother, who held onto it for all those years. She could have decided to sell it on numerous occasions but instead gave her son the opportunity to bond with his father.
Yeahhhhhhhhh bless her darling 💓 😎🌈🇲🇾🍀✌️
His dads spirit is in that car! Beautiful story, made me tear up..
Me too.Kudos my friend.

These were neat little cars and with the "v" design in the front hood/fascia, it gave it an aggressive, menacing look.
Back in the 70’s I owned an R8 Gordini, an R8 for spares, an R10 and an R10S. All great cars
Superbe auto,

The music in the background is always inspiring with these vidz... Showing these builds

Yes, you surely do- some of us Americans greatly appreciate the French car culture as well.
Wow! Such a heart touching story.

Another epic video. I REALLY feel for Anthony losing his Dad. His Dad would be my age.
Sorry you lost your dad so early in life. I'm sure he is happy to see you pick up his car where he left off and take good care of it.
Amazing road they're driving. Beautiful sounds and sights... what more can you want?
Brilliant, easily my favourite so far.
Good Job Anthony ! Your R8 is stunning !
Great car, great movie. Must be lots of fun to drive this car
Lovely looking car. I've always loved French cars of this vintage. :)

My GOD you need more likes.
My dad had one. He could speak about it for hours! So sad we don't get little rwd cars in france any more. Only understeery hot hatchs.
Also all the new look fat and slow :P
My father had one too, inherated, from my granfather, who I never reached to know :( It's a lovely car, that was very popular in Spain too.
Grandpas from both side of the family owned said model of cars. Both of them were passionate. Both had their shares of crashes. I have one in my barn, i take it out at least once a month.
Rallye 2 ! ;)
IZzelYy shame they got rid of the yellow headlights aswell. I used to love seeing them whenever we went to France. I remember having to help my dad paint the lights on the car before we were allowed into France.
What a Beauty and what a Joy.
That James Hunt sticker is amazing. :)
i feel sorry for him, his dad died in such young ages.

My grandpa had Renault 8 Gordini, but he crashed it back in the days :-(
if only I had a chance to drive this magnificent car...
a car of my childhood but nice road to drive to.
Superb ! I have a clio 182 in this color and with white stripes! Gordini power

OUF, cette musique de fond. Autrement, magnifique voiture!
A great video, again !!!!
Thank you for the English CC
Very well done! Nice to see some good dynamic shots of the car. Only the engine noise could be a bit more for me. Still, very nice story, well told and filmed. Beautiful car!

The car that filmed all the car scenes in early French noir films.. the cameraman would sit in the front trunk
Subtitles don’t work
We want to see a renault R12 on another test.
There is a recurring theme to all the episodes featuring French people, they all drive the snot out of their cars.
I like this so much
I'm not biased...
Beautiful
This French beast came in gran turismo sport
cool motor shame about his dad though , thought mine was too young to go at 54 but 32 omg very sad
I prefer the R8 plus =)
"I dont have to learn english, everyone speaks english!" says a frenchman in french to a nodding chinese man, who just sold him diesel instead of petrol. Xi Xi.
Edit: Great content as usual, thats a nice car!
Dacia 1100
make a video about supra mk4 twinturbo
He had a southern accent.
Absolutely southern-east accent to be exact.
Belle video

My dream...
All i see is Dacia 1100
R8? Never heard of it.
Shame on you lol.

souhaite que j'avais gardé le mien
