I was lucky enough to be driven round the Goodwood circuit, as a 10 year old in 1959, by Roy Salvadori. We did three laps - an out lap an 'on it' lap and an in lap (no real difference in speed as I remember!) drifting around every corner. Extraordinary and a never to be forgotten memory as I write this over 60 years later!
Fantastic! I was fortunate enough to just talk to him between his stints in a 24-hour race in 1985. He autographed that classic photo of him drifting an Aston Martin around a right hander in a magazine race report. When I presented it, he said, "That's a popular one!"
That was my favorite part too, seeing Carol Shelby. Just think, doctors told him in 1960 he'd be dead by 1962 and couldn't drive. Well he got a heart transplant and drove wickedly until the day he died, including doing over 200mph in a production GT500, just weeks before dying. To people my age, Carol Shelby wasn't just a hero and legend but a true ICON.
anybody that drove those cars back then had more balls then any of us combined, bias ply tires, mostly drum brakes, riding on gas tanks and they went like hell with very little safety gear
Roy Salvadori was the principal driver in the '59 Le Mans race. Shelby always said "The year I won Le Mans" while Salvadori always said "The year Carrol Shelby and I won Le Mans". It says a lot about both men. They died within a few weeks of each other.
Absolutely stunning. Magnificent to look at and I'm sure equally magnificent to drive. With an fascinating history there's good reason to believe this car will set records when it hits the auction block next week. Petrolicious at it's best!
After the week I've just had, that was just the tonic I needed. Thank you Petrolicious. My Friday evening is better now. Have a great end to the week ROW
what a wonderfull video, great and fantastic job , im impress , the sensations are as im there driving, thanks is a great job to editors camera and all the team .
The racing cars from this period are strikingly beautiful. I remember seeing a Maserati "Birdcage" at Geneva motorshow, also very nice looking. That Aston Martin is indeed an embodiment of perfection, must be really good times driving it.
Thank you. Well done, as usual... beautiful car, beautiful presentation, beautiful setting, lovely use of period film footage with contemporary video. But the product leaves me a little emotionally flat... the narrator gives an excellent and energetic survey of Aston Martin racing history.. I'm glad the introduction comes right up front, Steve has great 'news reporter' delivery and personality - but I think I prefer your productions with the owner's personal touch, and a car like this might deserve to be filmed in its 'native' environment. I am nonetheless grateful for the work you share.. a brilliant car with in-depth background.
If you ever want to get close to one of these and you’re on the east coast of the US, Dr.Simeone has one in his museum in Philadelphia. It is an absolutely stunning car and probably my favorite (tied with the Cobra Daytona and GT40’s) at Dr.Someone’s museum.
As usual, a great document from Petrolicious ! BUT, sorry to say, the music is much, much too loud. We cannot hear the comments! Too late to turn it down a bit ??
I'm glad I found this; actually, it somehow found me; but, anyways, I was watching some Ferrari answer to the GT-40. I can't wait to go through and learn what I can from all kinds of cars that were before my time, and that I haven't learned about. I mean I'm amazed at all the classic cars on the road my dad can tell you what it is. My dad's father raced this for the Southern California sports car series before it went bye bye. I think it was mostly a 1950s racing series. He also raced Lotus7's, and Ferrari TestaRosas.
To be fair I think most people would agree That Sir Stirling's greatest victory was the 1955 Mille Miglia in the equally beautiful Mercedes 300 SLR.. Taking nothing away from his win at Nurburgring, he was after all the best sports car racer of the time, probably of all time!
The DBR1 is a beautifully balanced, elegant and understated sportscar. It looks as though it could win Le Mans while driver and passenger dine on game pie and scrumpy from a picnic basket 😂
I wish I could be your videographer, but whoever you have really gets it. I don't just mean drone and sliders, I mean really carefully chosen camera angles. Some of the shots of this car are just stunning. Choosing a little lower shot than just straight on. Those kinds of decisions are instinctive and really help convey the impact and presence of the car to the viewer. This person gets it. I am trying to guess camera. I would say BlackMagic with RAW but I see some autofocusing struggles that sometimes waste what would be a good shot. Dashboard switchgear shot shows this. But I love the subtle color grading that is so filmic ( and I really don't like that word ). Just exceptional work AND it's one of the reasons I stay with this channel. The content is also equally exceptional. If your videographer should mysteriously disappear, give me a call LOL. Thanks for pursuing excellence!!
My Mum's best friend used to live on the same estate as the Moss family in East Grinstead. Apparently Uncle Sterling would come down on the weekends and visit his nephews and nieces, said my Mum's friend.

Thanks once again for making me crave something I can't have!
so true
This whole Petrolicious thing is very painful to watch.. I would own every car they're ever made a video on!
My thoughts exactly. My wife's new Honda Jazz doesn't appeal as much anymore.😜
Sure you can, it's for sale!
You can buy one, but they're very expensive
Now this car is a dream... well done...!
Films like this make my heart ache. The aesthetics, the sound, the history - everything about this car is special. So, so amazing.
This was the car I salivated over when I was 11 or 12 years old - and is still probably my all-time favourite sports racing car.
Fantastic!
Not to take anything from Sterling they forgot to mention a little old chicken farmer from Texas won some races in this car
mzondi1970 "...who took nitro glycerine pills to keep his heart going."
mzondi1970 They have to make sure their bigoted little anglo racers are put ahead of everyone else.

Sir Stirling Moss.... when the word is bandied about so carelessly, Stirling is the real thing - a bona fide racing 'legend'.
Was fortunate enough to behold DBR1/3 in the metal and it literally took my breath away. Stunning doesn't begin to describe these cars.
Production of these videos are immaculate!!! Another story well told and preserved. Thank you!!!
Magnificent car.
Gorgeous video.
Best in class filming & editing.
You've done it once again Petrolicious. Stunning!
greetings from Germany
man I swear...every video on this channel is pure artwork. Thanks for another AWESOME car vid.
Absolutely stunning. Magnificent to look at and I'm sure equally magnificent to drive. With an fascinating history there's good reason to believe this car will set records when it hits the auction block next week. Petrolicious at it's best!
For one more time you have created a masterpiece. Hats off for your video and the excellent presentation of the story.
After the week I've just had, that was just the tonic I needed. Thank you Petrolicious. My Friday evening is better now. Have a great end to the week ROW
It is an amazing car....but you can't take anything away from Sir Sterling Moss......he is absolutely fearless behind the wheel of any car....
Fantastic car and story including the irreplaceable legend that is Sir Sterling moss bravo!!
Its sooooo beautiful! Thank you Petrolicious, you've done it again!
even before the video started, I liked just simply Aston Martin.
shreyash tannu i
Your INCOMPETENCE knows no bounds.......
Another EPIC video!!!! And it was made even better by the clip of Carol Shelby winning at Le Mans.
Yeah but... nice to show a couple of seconds of him, but to not speak his name?
Yeah but... nice to show a couple of seconds of him, but to not speak his name?
Side profile on this car makes your heart ache at the thought that something so beautiful will never be made again
Finally a video only about cars! No side stories about the owners job etc, great stuff!
Beautifully shot as always. You should have that gentleman back, very entertaining character, and a knowledgeable chap
All the old race cars are definitely my favorites of what you film.
All Petrolicious Films are great, but this one is the best, with one of the best cars ever built! Thank you!
HOW is it one of the best ever built??? Details, please!!!!
I think I am falling in love with this channel. May god bless you for your work!
This beautiful car and that story about Stirling Moss's drive to finish first gave me goosebumps
what a wonderfull video, great and fantastic job , im impress , the sensations are as im there driving, thanks is a great job to editors camera and all the team .
Great video...again. I may not always favor the cars that you choose, but I always appreciate the quality of your work.
The racing cars from this period are strikingly beautiful. I remember seeing a Maserati "Birdcage" at Geneva motorshow, also very nice looking. That Aston Martin is indeed an embodiment of perfection, must be really good times driving it.
Many thanks for sharing with us all this Absolutely gorgeous & incredible Aston Martin DBR1

Barely a mechanical fact but he did tell us it made him confident... that was precise journalism at its best.
yet another top notch video. Great job guys
only channel on YT i can like before i watch the video! like allways top!
this is a gorgeous ride. absolutely lovely.
I love the shape of the racing cars from this era...reminds me of the old Speed Racer cartoons I loved as a kid
Another superb video of a great car.. Well done Petrolicious!
one of the most beautiful cars ever made
What a beautiful car; I think I'm in love. What a sound, too.
I'm in love.
Great story! That car is incredibly beautiful. It really looks the part!
From 3rd gear to 2nd with a squeak. I like it.
This video gave me chills!

this is a very beautiful car. the lines on the body are very nice.
I love watching these videos. I didn't know this car existed.
perfect as always, thanks, team!!
That is such a beautiful car
This video takes the channel to another level! The mixing in of the old timey radio broadcast was great!
To be fair I think most people would agree That Sir Stirling's greatest victory was the 1955 Mille Miglia in the equally beautiful Mercedes 300 SLR.. Taking nothing away from his win at Nurburgring, he was after all the best sports car racer of the time, probably of all time!
That body shape is one of the all time greats!
This is a proper racing car
No high tech tat
Just a wheel, a body, a set of wheels and a beautiful 3.0L straight six by British Engineers
Moss and Aston Martin. A team will never be beat
What a car....can't hit the like button hard enough or more times
I believe one of the drivers of the LeMans winning car in 59 was one Carroll Shelby
Awesome look and sound.
What an incredible car.. WOW!
Stunning, just stunning.....
Yet another chapter in the legend that is Sir Stirling Moss.
The DBR1 is a beautifully balanced, elegant and understated sportscar. It looks as though it could win Le Mans while driver and passenger dine on game pie and scrumpy from a picnic basket 😂
Absolutely beautiful.
What a beautiful car. From racings golden era.
This is one of those rare Aston Martins u NEVER SEE ON THE ROADS . perfect
Gorgeous.
Excellent Video... Phenomenal piece of Automotive Artwork... please turn the audio down by about half, it's drowning out the narration.
Exquisite example!
Such a beautiful car, so fast.
Now they have the AMR Vulcan....progress truly is an amazing thing to behold
Beautiful automobile 💖

That car looks ridiculously good.
So fresh and so clean clean

There is no art in the world that comes close the beauty of these machines.
My Mum's best friend used to live on the same estate as the Moss family in East Grinstead. Apparently Uncle Sterling would come down on the weekends and visit his nephews and nieces, said my Mum's friend.
what a beautiful car...
Beauty!
That's our Brett driving DBR1/1 there 😊
Such a beauty !!!!
I love the dashboard finish what's it called?
Pretty sure it's leather which has cracked due to age.
Way to hype it up before auction.
This guy gets it
Yeah, I don't need more people trying to outbid me dang it.
Like this car needs it?
can't believe it got sold for over 22M.
Yeah, way to go. No sarcasm on my end, don't know what you meant! It's smart...lol
Excellent!
Such a beautiful thing...
20 Million was a bit Out of budget!
