OK Doug, Now I have my first question for you. (and let me say that I've watched your video several times now) After my flight while recording to a memory card, when I watch it in my computer, the file is dated 12/31/1999. Can that be corrected to the right file date somehow? Is it a software glitch?
Definitely not as smooth as a DJI. The camera on this drone is not on a gimbal which doesn’t make it as smooth, but with the price of the DJI drones you get better technology with that ability.
I have this drone.Believe me it is very impressive no idle hype here.It's really quick but I like the distance and altitude capabilities.I like flying high and I carry this thing really high effortlessly to a point where I start feeling uncomfortable (until it is barely visible).It seems it could easily go to very incredible heights as though there isn't a height limit.I think it has to be definitely one of the absolutely best hobby grade budget drones.It is worth every bit and more of the $ 279.99 it's selling on amazon for.It's amazing you can get that performance out of a drone with this pricing.My next drone is the Mavic Pro Platinum.
Flip around what you said in the video :) 5GHz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance. 2.4GHz offers coverage for farther distances, but may perform at slower speeds. The controller uses 2.4 for range. 5GHz is used for video for speed. I'm still wondering how good the video quality is with this drone. All of the example videos so far have been on cloudy days and the quality looks really bad compared to similar drones like the Yuneec Breeze. Great video BTW!
Jeremy Wheeler the quality is good when recorded to the sd card. The camera is fixed and not on a gimbal so you do see some vibrations on a windy day but the GPS helps stabilize it. I’d say it’s about what would be expected for this price range.
Mario Kezen Kezen you cannot see a live stream with the F17. This is called First Person View (FPV) and because the F17 has an external action camera it does not have the FPV feature.
Thanks Doug for your review. I bought an F18 and it flew away. I bought a 2nd one and I'm scared as crap of it. When the gps is on it seems to have a mind of its own. What am I doing wrong. Most times I have an average of 7 to 14 satellites. Help!!!
Doug Licht+ GREAT INTRO Video for getting the Contixo F18 Drone up and flying. Thanks for all the flight charecteristics, how to operate the Remote Control and use the video... I bought the Contixo F18 Quadcopter as my first drone and I love it except for the following.. My issue with the drone I received is that I lose the video link when it is no more then 50 meters up or away. It just keeps trying to connect which it will once it is close to me again. I'm working with Contixo to solve this issue. So far the CRS has been great. Reanon Garcia in customer service has been great at helping me, but I'm not very happy that I have to send the drone back in so they can fix it or replace it. (UPDATE 4/14/18, They Replaced it see comment below for detailed explaination). Now that i've learned to fly pretty decently I really need the video as I can fly this out of my range of vision and having the video to reorient myself as opposed to hitting the RTH button to get it back in my line of site is a better solution to me. I'll be updating my experience with Contixos CSR after I am done with dealing with the video linkage issue. From what I hear, many of these drone sellers don't have the best CSR so I'm hoping Contixo is not one of them. Outside of the video issue, it's a great drone for the beginner to lower intermediate flyer. It has most of the functions you need to save your drone from crashing or having it just fly away when it gets out of range of the transmitter. If that happens it automatically returns to home, it also does the same thing when your battery gets to low. I can't wait to get the video working as one of the reasons I bought this was to film at altitude the firework shows I do for various events with the 4th of July and New Years Eve being the obvious top 2 times I do a show. I may not be a professional, but i have all the professional equipment to do a show with my Cobra remote firing system, but I digress... As I stated earlier, my experience would be perfect if not for the video likage issue. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a big deal since I have already bought 3 extra batteries, 3 additional chargers, 3 extra sets of prop blades. Obviously i was planning on doing a lot of flying, but until the video issue is fixed I'm keeping it grounded so they can't blame the malfunction on anything I may have done. Thanks again for the video and for those interested in buying one of the Contixo F18s, I say buy it. I have read primarily great reviews with the charging time and charger problems the wrost things I could find wrong with this drone in the reviews. BTW, I paid $249 on sale and that came with the cool backpack for traveling with or storing it for later use. The only draw back is you must remove the prop blades in order for the backpack to zip up closed and the battery charging time is around 3 hours (which is why I bought the extra chargers and batteries). if you buy extra batteries, be sure to get the ones with 2100 mAh as there are some being sold that are only 1700mAh. The 2100mAh batteries gives you close to 20 min flying time while the 1700 mAh batteries gives you about 8-10min of flying time. Charging time depends on how low you let the battery discharge, but 3 hours is a good average. So it's a great drone to buy as it's easy for the beginner to fly and you can change the settings once you become more comfortable flying it which will allow you to bank sharper/faster among other things!! Sounds like bad continuity in the wifi antenna wire inside. A small part to replace. I suspect this because I watched the same problem fixed in another video.,

CSR and their TECH Dept really worked hard with me to solve my video linkage issue without me having to send it back!! Read the rest for a more detailed version............................................................... After a few trouble shooting attempts at home, they had me return my F18 Drone back and replaced it with a Brand New One!!! This one is running perfectly, although I am having some issues with video quaility (A bit a black snow during playback) but this could be due to all the High Voltage Power Lines where I fly at my house. I get the feeling this will clear up when I'm in a more open area and not flying close to the High Voltage Power lines. (Yes my video card is high speed) Rich the Drone Guy+..... Thanks for your input!! :) I get the feeling in the future I will upgrade to a MUCH better Video Drone for a more professional quaility looking video, i.e. clarity, remote aiming and focus of the camera, more video recording options, better stabilization of drone and video, Program in Way Points, Longer battery life, Longer video range, etc. Lastly, I'd like one that had a good video screen built into the remote controller that's transmitting directly to the remote so I'm not dependent on the WIFI quaility in the area (if there even is any WIFI at a remote area!), (Gonna have to research those now). For now the F18 will be great for practicing.. Any input about the Professional Level Video Drones is appreciated as I may try to do some professional videos in the future.. I've got a few idea's that may work out for me.. I'd like to spend no more the $3,000 at the most, but that's not set in stone if a much better one costs just a bit more.. Thanks again.. That carrying bag is cool and all but I couldn't justify paying that much for a rebranded mjx bugs 2w which can be gotten for around 130. Nice video though
Hello. I have never personally tried the bugs 2 but from what I have seen this is the same thing. The camera position is fixed at a slight downward angle.
I'm not sure that you can buy the controller separately, I'm pretty sure it only works with the one it comes with. It likely came from somebody flying close by so maybe you can post somewhere local that you found it :)
@@DougLicht I mow grass professionally, so it was found near a customer's house who said it didn't belong to them. I would like to get it back to the owner though. It seems you can bind a new controller to it and I have found a website that has all parts, but again I would rather return it
Just flew my Contixo f18 362m( 1188ft) and it could have gone higher I just stopped because it was so high I could only see it as a dot in the sky and I had no FPV because my service provider said the 5ghz would pull down my data package rapidly so they suggest I don't do it.There drone is quietly one of the highest flying drones.According to the specs it has a 1 mile transmitter limit but they don't mention and altitude limit.I checked a list of the highest flying drones and they don''t mention it.But they have drones that have heights of 300m max height but my own exceeded that easily and it wasn't in the list.
I’m glad you like this drone. Just be careful flying that high because by law the FAA limits height to 400ft. This is definitely a great drone, especially for somebody who wants to learn flight but have the option to be a little sporty too.
I have the b2w bugs, and the app bugs go is for the wifi fpv. I try the app contixo f18 and it also works with my drone, no difference of camera functions
The bugs 2w and The contixo f18 essentially the same in many ways and they look identical. Inspite of this they are different in a couple ways.The contixo f18 has a 2100mah battery and the bugs 2w has a 1800mah battery.The distance the Contixo goes is 1.6km while the Bugs 2w goes 1km..

This is actually a fixed camera so it does not adjust.

What a shame. Another nice drone. Without a gimbal. At least the manufacturer could put at least a 2 axis raise the price up.

You should not have to use an SD card to see live feed. Does the app seem to have any connectivity to the drone?
The drone name isn’t coming up, the WiFi has renamed my drone as drone_DA9DBD, but not as Contixo F18
