The Endless Adventure guys you arent eating this right. All those dishes should ALWAYS be paired with rice. Otherwise you'll find it too salty or too rich. Also that binagoomgan shrimp paste is a condiment. You dont eat it with one spoon without vegetables or fruits.
Halo-halo in English is literally mix-mix. So you're supposed to mix it, as much or as little as you like. :)
The Endless Adventure oh such a shame.i'm sorry about what happened.😑😐
thank you for this wonderful vlog.
1st mistake: Almost every Filipino dish must be enjoy with rice.
2nd mistake: You eat the "kare kare" wrong, you must combine the meat with the peanut sauce with the vegetable and shrimp paste that comes with it, and again best enjoy with rice.
P.S. Next time try "dinuguan", "sisig", "chicken adobo", "crispy pata", and "balut"
halo-halo is a filipino language which means mix-mix. you have to mix everything first before eating it.
So sorry for your tripod, yeah pick pockets a big thing down there. As a foreigner you guys will stand out. Here's some tips when your travelling over there
Never leave your things unattended
Use Grab or Uber when your travelling around Manila
Stay vigilant when talking to strangers
Ensure all your valuables are secured
Try to stay away from dark or unlighted streets
In my experience Filipinos are the most friendliest, accommodating and hard working people I've ever met. But it never hurts to be a little careful sometimes.
Yeah it just comes with the territory. If you travel enough eventually something will get stolen. Just happy it wasn't an expensive item!
hellraizer44 Your description above describes every place in the world, not just the Philippines 🇵🇭. You are making it sound like it only happens in the Philippines. It’s bloody obvious to be careful everywhere
You have a comprehension problem, Liem! You're a typical Filipino who will defend anything just because it pertains to the Philippines.
Oh yeah, Liem, you're one of those who eats anything that moves. Thank you for clarifying that and letting us know why you're so stupid!
nathanblue ehhh, don't talk too much like him :')
I like how you guys are very accepting with the food. Some people won’t even try it before tasting the food ❤️
Hi guys, the binagoong serves as the 'salt' for the kare kare, bagoong is not eaten alone usually. You will find out that different regions have their local specialties so try as much as possible! . Enjoy your trip ;)
Oh no! That's bagoong. That's more of the seasoning for the kare-kare. The vegetables are usually already mixed into the Kare-Kare already. It's not a separate dish.
the binagoongan with vegetables are paired with kare kare hahaha.. and have rice, that's delicious!
numutv ha ha ha I was laughing when I saw they ate the shrimp paste or binangoungan alone it must be salty... you’re right it should be eaten along with the karekare so it blends with the sweetness of the karekare! Maybe the vendor where they bought the karekare did not explain well how to eat properly the karekare...
I came here just to tell them that. :D The kare kare must have been bland without the bagoong!
just gonna say that.. you are supposed to actually put the vegetables and some paste in the Kare Kare.. and next time ask them to not put any tripe in it.
You need to eat all with rice. The veggies should be mixed with the karekare and some shrimp paste.😆
That's why the vendor just gave you the shirmp paste with vegetables. They're a part of the dish although some prefer just vegetables. You can add the shrimp paste to taste (if you have green mango, it goes awesome with that too) :).
I remember the white dude senior , he told me are you a Filipino ? I told him yah . He told me that Filipino food is the best food all over the world because he went different country . THANKS FOR LOVING OUR FOOD . From Kyle Relieve in California
That's not binagoongan. That's bagoong (sauteed shrimp paste) that you pair with kare-kare, similar to how you eat dimsum with chili paste/oil.
Thanks for making me hungry, though. 😭
Thanks for the note! Yeah we mixed up the two dishes 😂
Bagoong is actually krill paste
I cringed when they took a mouthful of just bagoong. Super salty but delicious!
Halo-halo literally means mix-mix, so it's meant to be mixed thoroughly... Glad you enjoyed the dessert though :)
Nobody told you folks how those foods are supposed to be eaten. If you notice that they are particularly strong in flavor. That's because that taste is supposed to be diluted in near equal amounts of rice.
Treat most Filipino foods as rice toppings. This is the only way to truly capture the intended taste of Filipino food.
And by the way, those freebies that seem to be given with the Karekare. The veggies and the pork in shrimp paste. In some servings, they're actually pre-mixed with the food. You're supposed to have them in the spoonful you put in your mouth.
If only more people saw your comment
The shrimp paste backing is paired with kare kare -adds salty flavor to the sweet peanut sauce. The veggie is also eaten usually boiled separate to preserve crunchiness before mixing it with the kare kare
Just a tip, if the dish has strong taste or if the sauce/soup is very thick and too savory, usually we eat it with rice. And Halo halo is translated in English as "mix-mix" so yes, you usually mix up everything before you eat. In my case, i eat half of the ice cream, then the other half i mix with the ingredients to eat. Ube is a root crop from the family of potatoes and sweet potatoes but Ube is colored purple.
great you're here in the Philippines, so many great food here and a lot of influence from Spain, China, India and Southeast Asian cuisine.
numutv lol. Seriously.
Stfu
taipz Filipino food prob the worst in Asia.
Dan Man an irrelevant opinion of some nobody from the internet lmfao.
taipz more relevant than yours. travel if u can afford it. Filipino food is simply terrible compared to other Asian food.
Green Veg is partnered with kare-kare, the bagoong is like the side dish...for kare-kare...
Try Dinuguan, Bopis, Sisig, Papaitan, Kilawin, Kinilaw, Bicol Express, Bulalo, La Paz Batchoy...
Karl kari you need to put shrimp paste on and it's best with the ox tails😆😆😆😆😉
The vegetable and the shrimp paste, not Pork binagoongan, go with the kare kare, just like beefsteak with gravy. Some people serve the vegetables from the kare kare separately to prevent the veggies from getting too soggy. You don't eat kare-kare without rice as it is rich in peanut sauce and salty shrimp paste. You don't eat it alone, guys! I wouldn't brave to eat that alone as well as it is really, really, really salty, wow! Thanks guys for trying Filipino foods. You're the best!
Oh no you’re supposed to eat those with rice! Plus thats bagoong which is supposed to be ramen together with the Kare Kare to balance the saltiness. Hope you guys enjoyed the food though!
@Endless Adventure, so good to see you trying out the real Filipino dishes that haven't been modified for western taste and you both are very impressive for being game without any pretentious...keep on exploring the world and good luck!
Great video! The mixed veggies (Pechay and Sitaw) with the Bagoong is supposed to go with the Kare-Kare. You eat it all together. Also, yes, the Halo-Halo has to be mixed. Literal translation of Halo-Halo is “Mix-mix”.
I feel sorry that your tripod got stolen. We don’t want to that happen to anyone while they are visiting the country. Hope it doesn’t ruin your stay!
Have fun in the PH!
Thanks for the tip! And no worries, it was a bummer in the moment, but we definitely still enjoyed our time there :)
The Endless Adventure take care of your belongings there...it is fun but put your back pack in front of you..
That vegetables with shrimp paste goes with the "kare-kare", you meant to mix them together. The seller separate them perhaps due to container constraint. In addition, those Filipino foods you chose should really be eaten with rice to smooth out the strong flavoring on some dishes. Also, Filipino foods have one particular sauce associated with it like Kare-kare with shrimp paste, asado with fish sauce, Lumpia with garlic, onion and vinegar and so on... you guys are so positive, a great couple and you make it great to watch!
My family's country! Yay! Kare kare is my absolute favorite dish - but now I have to make it with mostly vegggies instead of meat. Also, I know this is to late haha - but you eat the bagoong (not binagongan) with the kare kare. We eat soups/stews in the heat to cool down - as counter-intuitive as that sounds. You're also missing the rice - its a shame the vendor didn't give that to you!
I'm sorry your tripod got stolen - the Philippines (as much as i love the people) is notorious for pick pockets :(
Thanks for the note! We'll definitely be mixing the kare kare (and halo halo) going forward 😂 and we definitely learned how important rice is after that first meal 🍚🙌
In filipino household the recipe of kare kare the vege ,bagoong and meat w.peanut sauce are mixed together to taste
I love how open you guys are to trying foods. Its something to be appreciated! I enjoy watching you two be honest with the foods you try and how they taste! Keep being you!
Thank you for trying our foods and also for the compliments! 😆
I watched Tals vlogs from the Philippines it's was awesome now I'm interested to see your side something different maybe. Great vlog!
So excited to find your UA-cam channel! The rapport between you two is perfect and I'm looking forward to starting at the beginning of your adventures. Thank you for letting us tag along!
Heyah. If you're still in the Philippines, look for the ice cream brand called Fruits in Ice Cream (FIC). They have the best Ube ice cream in the world. You can find them at SM Hypermarkets. :)
You mix the bago-ong into the kare-kare for taste.
Usually for Filipino food, if your given a sauce, it is intended to give you more flavor.
I'm surprised they did not give you vinegar with small chili....
Beautiful market. You guys are always so brave and adventurous to try new foods:)
Mabuhay welcome to the Philippines!! thank you so much for visiting our country. hope you enjoy it here as much we enjoy having you here in our country. hope to see you again and again.
When you eat this halo halo you have to mix it first before eating so that youll feel the real taste
Halo halo means mix ingredients
The kare-kare should be eaten together with the vegetable and binagoongan and also rice. The lechon and beef caldereta are made a bit salty coz it should be eaten with rice too.The halo halo means mix , you have to mix it before eating.😊😊😊
You guys sound like very familiar with the name of Filipino foods.
wow thanks fod trying our foods! I'm proud Pinoy! thanks for tasting them wow you've got great stuff here! I'm loving what I am seeing in your channel
The struggle is real for people in the Philippines. Foreigner or not, if they have a way of stealing something they think is valuable, they will. I apologize on behalf of my countrymen. Hopefully you’ll bump into the real kind ones.
And to you people who are stealing from these kind folks. They took an interest in visiting our country. Be better hosts for crying out loud.
Poverty is a real problem here. Education as well. So yeah.
Crab mentality smelling here.
seriously?
Quite surprised that the vendor didn't show you guys how to eat halo halo. u needed to mix the ube into the shaved ice, milk, and preserved fruit. Ube ice cream is so yummy. Sometimes halo halo is served with leche flan on top also. Kare kare needed to be mixed in with the bok choy and shrimp paste. All those dishes are always best over rice :)
looks like that's not actually pork binagoongan... it seems like the vendor gave you the vegetables for the kare-kare separately then you put a little bagoong on the karekare over rice ^_^ hope you enjoy your stay here :)
Yep! We got the two dishes mixed up 😄but it was super delicious 👌
yes it would be great with rice I agree... thanks for liking our dishes
The Endless Adventure u should mix the halo halo lol....
Its always nice and heart warming to see people from another country try our food and culture. Thank you!
Halo-halo literally mean mix-mix. So mix all the ingredients first before eating it.
epguisao I’m about to say that too😂
Yes! Paused the vid to comment about this. 😅
Filipino guy here. It is more delicious with rice go get some xtra rice. The kare kare tastes good with binagoongan.
Awww...you two are awesome.♥️ Safe travels.
the kare-kare is the tripe and the veggies - it's usually together but I think they separated it in that presentation. You use the bagoong (shrimp paste) to flavour the Kare-kare.
I love your vlogs! The food looks so yummy.
Thank you for being so cool about the loss of your tripod, darn kids. You two are the most cool, calm, and collected traveling couple I've watched so far. I'll continue to follow.
Be sure to eat that with rice :)
That's a Liver Sauce for the Lechon.....Bi-na-go-ong-ngan or Ba-go-ong is Shrimp Paste and the Pechay (Philippine Bak Choy) goes well with the Kare-Kare (but just a small amount of the Bagoong cause that is too salty.
kare kare and bagoong looks nice :)
I really like how you are both very open minded to try new things. Very interesting videos
All these food wer meant to be taken with rice
Thank you both so much for trying our Filipino foods, you're botj so brave!
Way to go!!!
Where’s the rice??? No carb diet? In the Philippines??
Don't worry, there's plenty of rice to come :)
The restaurant owners should be explaining to foreigners how the sauces works. For example kare kare. The sauteed shrimp sauce is pretty good with the cooked meat and vegetables with peanut sauce. Top it on a hot rice. It really taste awesome. Lechon is the same thing. The lechon sauce does the magic. It really brings out the flavour of the lechon's savoury taste. If the restaurant failed to explain how foods are eaten in Philippines or they have no time to explain you don't hesitate to ask any Pilipino around. Most of them are friendly and can speak English. They're mostly helpful. I could say 99.9 percent.
EAT RICE!!!!
You guys are adorable, open, and your excitement about the food is contagious! If you're ever in the San Francisco Bay Area, we've got a sizeable Filipino American community and tons of restaurants that serve traditional dishes so come through.
You're eating all that food without rice! They're all designed to go with rice so the flavors might be too strong the way you're tasting them. Not really a fair way to judge the flavors. Also the way you're doing it is an almost sure way to get what we Filipinos call "umay" or "sawa" meaning - to be assaulted/overwhelmed by the flavors to the degree of oversatiation or even nausea. Of course there's always an exception, and if you insist on consuming those viands without rice... the proper Filipino way is to have them with our great San Miguel beer! May I suggest a case for the both of you :P That's six bottles each - just about right for the amount of food you are tasting. Mabuhay!!!
Bless you guys for visiting us here and tried our food, we have so much more here and hopefully you'll try especially the infamous "balut" try to look it up on google hehehe... Be safe here with all of your travels and enjoy. 👏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🇵🇭
No plastic...but the lid that didn’t even fit. 🤣
and all the plastic bowls and utensils.
Still better than all plastic.
Love to watch you Filipino food virgins. It's nice to see newbies to Filipino food trying our different flavors out. The halo halo means "mix mix," so you need to mix everything together instead of eating one ingredient at a time. Also, what you guys called binagoongan with vegetables was meant to be mixed with the kare kare. (:0) Hope you enjoy tasting the Philippines.
Triggered coz they didn't mix the halo-halo
Thank you for showcasing and trying out the local cuisines and delicacies. Hope you had fun traveling around especially in the neighborhoods. I'm so sorry for your tripod, I'm feeling really really bad for it. No one deserves that. It's my first time seeing your vlogs and I've now subscribed! Wishing you guys a fun and safe trip. :D
Great job, guys. Really nice descriptions of the food and you don't back down from trying something new. Your channel will pay off.
Both of you have the kindest hearts and beautiful positive outlooks! Thank you for sharing your adventures. Also, next time, mix the Halo-halo...it literally translates to "mix-mix".
you must dip or add a li'l bit of shrimp paste/binagoongan to kare-kare. atleast you tried Pinoy cuisine and enjoyed it. god bless!
The vegetable (petchay) with shrimp paste are also ingredients included in KARE-KARE and all the foods that you buy it's good if you buy also a cup of rice.
That pork with the crispy skin looks amazing!
I used to live with a Filipina lady and she used to make the most delicious food. She introduced me to the wonders of shrimp paste - it makes everything better 😋
okay. I’m going to Salcedo Market this weekend because of you guys. lol. enjoy the rest of your stay in the Philippines!
You should always ask the people how to eat these kind of food because like the karekare, you eat it with the vegetables, the bagoong together with the meat and the peanut sauce.
And halo halo should be mixed first so the ingredients mix together to taste it more delicious.
The kare kare meat should be dipped in the binagoongan (shrimp paste)
Fun fact about the Tagalog language and the other dialects in the Philippines. Words that are repeated like kare-kare and halo-halo can add new meaning to a given root word.
In the case of kare-kare, kare isn't really a root word per se. Words said twice can mean "like something". Kare kare is based on the curry dishes of Indian immigrants in the country brought here many, many years ago. Curry = kari. So kare-kare would mean "curry-like" as it doesn't use any curry spices but only looks like the dish.
For halo-halo, halo is a verb that means mix. The general practiced usage of the word for naming the dessert halo-halo (and how everybody believes it) is the people's literal translation of it - mix-mix. Given the way it is eaten by shoving your spoon in the glass and giving the contents a good mix to get a good ratio of the different ingredients with every spoonful. And as with halo-halo, the origin of its coinage is mixed up.
The more sensical translation for halo-halo is from the adjective meaning "variety, hodgepodge, assorted, or mixed etc." which is how you would describe the many ingredients halo-halo has. Mixed emotions would be translated as "Halo-halong damdamin." Or Diverse language as "Halo-halong mga wika".
Sari-sari is a direct synonym. Neighborhood sari-sari stores are those mini grocery stalls operated by owners at their own houses. And they sell an ASSORTMENT of household items, drinks, snacks, cigarettes etc. hence sari-sari stores.
Halo-halo = Sari-sari.
The more you know.🌈
usual ingredient of kare kare is ox tail and ox tripe and that shrimp paste is used as a pair and those veggies are usually mixed on the stew
The correct name for 'purple yam' is taro. It's common throughout the Pacific, Japan and East Asia. It's commonly eaten during the Autumn Moon Festival in Macau, where I live.It appears in a few dimsum dishes too. Try wu tau go---you'll love it. I also ate taro often when I lived in Papua New Guinea. It remains one of my favourite vegetables.
you use the shrimp paste to flavor the kare kare. you take a tiny amount and include it into your spoon / fork and add it onto the kare kare
Its not Binagoongan. Binagoongan is a different meal. Its called bagoong (shrimp paste). You should put some bagoong and those veggie in the Kare-kare.
Bagoong or shrimp paste can be combined to different meals like Pork Binagoongan, Bicol Express, etc.
The Lechon's sauce can be bought in every groceries, its called Mang Tomas sauce.
Bagoongan baboy with petchay eat together with the karekare. Thats the way you eat karekare always with bagoong. To enhance the taste of karekare.
im glad you love our Country philippines.. hope more Blog from philippines. more power to boat of you.
the bagoong goes with the Kare Kare... it's akin to eating wasabi on its own when you eat bagoong by itself. As for the halo2x (mix mix in english), mix them all up to get a variety of flavor in each bite.
You must put a little amount of shrimp paste in the kare-kare to balance the taste of sa peanut sauce at also you eat with rice 😉😊
There is a dish called Pork Binagoongan, which is pork mixed with locally made fish (or shrimp) paste called bagoong. It can be salty, yes, but pair it with unripe mango (mangga't bagoong), and the contrasting tastes can send your tastebuds flying!
glad you enjoyed our dishes
So glad you enjoyed the Pinoy food. They are all my favorite with a mountain heep of rice, of course! You both are amazing, taking in the scenery and obviously enjoying every bit of the culture. From a Pinay, thank you!
Sorry about the bad part of your day. Your optimism is admirable. Safe travels!
The kare kare is eaten with the binagoong (shrimp paste). It's really good when the 2 are eaten together. 😁 and the halo halo is supposed to mixed first before eating.
Sauce of Lechon is made up of blended pork liver with liver spread w/ little sugar, salt, pepper and vinegar. Usually vege and bagoong is mixed with the main ingredient of pork or beef and maybe chicken..
The bagoong is for Kare Kare to have salty flavor when you combine also the vegetables you mix it to Kare Kare
The kare-kare comprises the tripe and vegetables with the binagoongan as the seafood dip or gravy. All three come as one package for a great blend of flavors.
Nice to see your videos, and jealous and hungry when you guys eat some delish food from the Philippines. I like to see your interaction with the people and experience their way of life. Keep up the good work and tell us more. God bless and be safe.
New subbie here! Thank you for visiting my country that helps our people! 🇵🇭
Hi sir! thank you for giving a try to taste our Filipino dishes. Kare-kare is best eaten with bagoong (shrimp paste) and rice. you should put a little bagoong in the meat and eat it together with the rice! 😊 Anyway nice video mabuhay! thumbs up!
I love your blending each other in many ways... so lovely... and sweet...
It's so fun to watch my country someone else's perspective. I feel like a tourist too. So upsetting to hear about your tripod, there are just some areas here where you have to be vigilant. However, it's really nice that you guys had fun in Manila. Oh, if you ever want to come back and watch the sunset, you should go to the bayside area of Mall of Asia. It's a really beautiful view. There are restaurants there where you can hang out while watching the sunset. Cheers! :)
Hi the vegetables with the shrimp paste should be eaten together with the karekare the best when you eat it with rice😊
And the halo halo you should mix it first together "halo" means mix..😁
Hope you enjoy Filipino foods😍
HI ! I'M BOBBY LIVING IN LAS VEGAS , IM FROM PHILIPPINES, THE KARE KARE IS EATEN MIX WITH THE VEGETABLES AND THE PASTE BAGOONG, MORE POWER TO YOU TWO , TAKE CARE.
Thank you for trying Filipino cuisine. The bagoong is usually sauce for the kare-kare and halo-halo is mixed first before eating. I hope the food server mentioned how it's eaten. Sorry to hear about your tripod. You both travel safely.
Kare Kare is suppose to include the Vegie and bagoong given to you. In Filipino household we mix it with vegie and bagoong with the peanut sauce and the meat before eating with rice.
You should eat kare-kare with shrimp paste. The vegstable is suppose to be mixed with your Kare-kare. Without shirmp paste, its going to be a little dull.
You actually mix the vegetables with the kare kare. And everytime you eat the kare kare you put a little bit of bagoong in the karekare and eaten with rice.
Halo-halo means mix-mix. The best way to eat is to mix it well to blend it well.
Thanks for visiting my country....just be alert and have fun
That's cool guys I love you guys tried our pilipino dishes but just a slight off with the karekare, you should mixed or paired them with that pechay or bokchoy and bagoong and of course with rice to get the real taste of karekare.
You’re both very well informed about the dishes, what it’s made out of, etc. , except you didn’t know how to eat it.. for example Kare-kare you’re supposed to pair with “bagoong” (not binagoongan, which is another dish).. all of those dishes are meant to be paired with rice; halo-halo literally means “to mix”. Don’t be afraid to ask the locals, “how do you eat this?” Filipinos are very friendly and hospitable and they’ll be glad to help you. Glad you’re enjoying the Philippines 👍
I just watched your review on Filipino Food. I am glad you tried Filipino food especially in a farmer's market at Salcedo, Makati City. Where are you guys from?
