On the west side, beyond Wellington, you have a few kilometers long uninterrupted strip of nature and parks along the St-Laurence: huge outside public dance floor, Natatorium (art deco outside pool) and more. If you go to the western limit of Verdun, up to LaSalle, you also have surf on the standing waves and kayaking in the rapide of Lachine.

Hilarious coincidence. I have been watching your vids for awhile as I moved to Montreal - to Verdun, literally two days ago. I also love it here!! So much things to say and to show you about Verdun. The famous "Librairie de Verdun", take an ice cream scoop at "Boboule", go to see / learn salsa dance in the park, take a bike and ride on the St-Laurent river side, try the food from Magdalene Island, come back again for another tour. I'm living at Montreal for 20 years, I lived in several neighbourhoods, Verdun is my favorite follow by " La petite Italie".

When I first moved to Verdun in 2008, it was more of a "Meh..." neighborhood. But since then, is has grown to be one of the nicest places to live in the city. The revitalization of Wellington and the river bank, investments in parks and leisure infrastructure. I love it!

Also mory's pizza was my main pizza place since I was a kid and it was tradition to get a pizza slice every halloween. Also Wellington street changed a lot. It used to be a lot of video stores game stores and even music stores and we had 2 sidewalk sales every summer but now they changed it and it's no longer for us locals and is now for rich tourists with fancy restaurants and stores that locals can't buy anymore sadly also we've had bars in verdun since before I was born and we have way more than for but the food thing is correct. All bars have to serve food but bars have been around in verdun for more than 30 years also somewhat know the owner of maltehops he owns a metal band too. The crane is used to make is easier to bring construction material sheets (plywood, and mostly drywall panels - i.e. panneaux de gypse) up an apartment. They just lift it next to an opened window (usually if it's a large renovation the window will be removed anyway) so the workmen can simply unload the panels into the apartment (that is, instead of walking up the stairs). In your video, it appears the renovation is on the first floor (rez-de-chaussée) but why not, still an easy and fast way to unload the truck.

There is actually a "moving day" (sort of) in Quebec. Due to some old Napoleonic-era law or something, July 1 (Canada Day) is the day that all leases end or start, so it's when just about everybody who is going to move has to move. It is a nightmare. The streets can be full of people frantically trying to move out/in and anything having to do with moving (such as renting a truck) is extremely expensive.

@@ElizabethTravelsNow It MIGHT be a coincidence, but it's a very convenient coincidence for Quebec. A great way to make a bunch of money as a side hustle, though; you have the day off (stat holiday) and if you have a vehicle (truck, van, etc.) that can be used to move furniture, you can make some good money for a day of moving people.

I lived in Verdun for 2 years and it was a really cool place to stay. Wellington is the bomb. It's the kind of place where you don't ever really need to leave to live life. You have pharmacies, groceries, bars and restaurants. Unfortunately I have to be honest and say that the level of racism there is higher than other areas of Montreal. I have actually seen Nazis in full regalia on the streets. Many of the older people that live in Verdun are also quit racist. If you're not white it might not be the happiest place for you.

Dewors it's a pun aka in French as Jeu de mots /Game of Words. with the french word Dehors (Outside) and the W of Wellington. It's also mimic the québécois(joual) accent when some pronounced the word Dehors in the Québécois expression Enweye dewors! i.e. Envoye/Send Dehors/outside . i.e. Just go outside or Get out !

the Cheese of poutine is not regular cheese : heres why
Canada has laws on process milk and its byproducts thus cheese curds are illegal IN canada
because its not made of process milk , Quebec has exemption of that law its why cheese curds can only be bought in Quebec.
(note that we also had weird laws on Margarine and butter and its color )

Born and raised in Montreal all my life until i moved to Japan at the end of last year. I've stayed at places near Fabre station, Place d'armes, and Vendome but often stayed more in the suburbs. Therefore I had a car and i do enjoy driving (just not in Montreal). I simply wish that the metro stations (particularly Cote-Vertu) had a car parking option. Once you're on the metro line, it's easy to get around. It's hard to get on the metro line or it's hard to live near a metro line with a car (street parking signs are kinda nightmare-ish in Montreal).
Here I'm 30 seconds away from the metro with a 24 hour Lawson (convenient stores in japan are really really really convenient + 5 min walk from a 24 hour supermarket) with rent in the 500USD. Smaller but definitely more efficient. My wife however, saw that poutine, and is like "I want to go back just to eat poutine" 🤣

@@jefflack8062 If you move with a steady stream of income, I can tell that in my city, it’s less stressful. I have to admit that acquiring material things is more expensive here however food expenditures are less. And if you value traveling, whether it’s domestically in this country or in nearby countries (once pandemic is over), it’s really worth it since airline cost are less (if you are willing to have less luggage). The hardest part is the language barrier but i’ve even managed to get my driver’s license converted and my Japanese is just passable for communicating with people at a bar.

I love visiting Verdun. One comment about the beach. It’s about time Verdun had one. Toronto has beaches as does Halifax but I think the Canadian city with the most and the best beaches is Vancouver and the area surrounding it because most of the beachfront fronts public not private property. My favourites are Spanish Banks and Ambleside. I’m hoping Montreal starts opening up more areas along the waterfront for the public to enjoy. I recently learned that there was once a beach in my neighbourhood (Maisonneuve) and even a yacht club but the land where it was is an area full of cranes and containers called the Port of Montreal.
