I would think the Parc La Fontaine is named after the French Canadian politician Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine, not because of the fountain. But yeah having a fountain in Parc La Fontaine respects the spirit XD.
I came to the comments when I heard him say it. 😂 Park is indeed named after Lafontaine, a key figure in the Patriot Rebellions of 1837 against the British colonial authorities. Lafontaine later served as our first Premier and is famous for pissing off the Anglo loyalists who rioted and 🔥burned down the Canadian Parliament in Montréal🔥 in full francophobic rage which lead to it being moved to Ottawa. He has his own monument/statue in the park at the corner of Sherbrooke and Ave. Du Parc Lafontaine just South of the pond. Hard to miss it.
Bike paradise? Yeah, nobody is going to stop you or give you a ticket if you sail through a red light or a stop sign here. Hell, you could even crash into school kids running to the school bus, and nobody will give a shiet. Great place, eh? Me? An architect too!
I moved to Montreal from Vancouver (lol) this May, and your videos also helped me lol love this one as well, thank you! The city is amazing and I'm already happy with this hot weather in the Spring! Excited for Summer! 🌞
We loved Montréal so much last year we're going again this year. I'm from St. Louis in the States and the neighborhoods in Montréal were so familiar yet so different, I showed friends a picture of a street around Petite Italie and they thought it was some street by The Hill until they saw the ARRÊT sign.
I think your city is beautiful, thriving, and relaxing, Dan. As a follower of yours, I can say that I often learn so much from you because you've traveled to many parts of the world, unlike me who has never stepped foot outside of my country. Take care, darling 🤗.
I visited Canada for the first time last year for holidays. By far Montreal was my favourite!! Loved Montreal so much, I'm returning this September for another holiday and looking forward to enjoying this fabulous city!!
Great video as always mate, the ending was cool too. Me and wife are one of those who you mentioned who chose Montreal because of your content. We migrated to Canada and chose MTL after watching your videos. You are showing our street in the Plateau in the first part of the video. Thanks for your service!
Part of the "beautiful bike path" you are on is the REV - a special bike lane project that offers protected and wider paths, direct routes to major areas, and is open all year round. So good! I used to live in Montreal and I miss it so much.
Thanks Dan for showing the Plateau. I'm a Plateau native. Been living there for 36 years, my whole life. Would love to tell you about a lot of the little secrets of the Plateau (about school and the Montreal slang that not a lot of foreigners know about but it's very cool ! )
I have been watching a few of your videos lately ( 2 or 3 on Montreal, and the one on Quebec city), I don't know if it is because you show us both cities from an outsider perspective, but damn it is refreshing to see it's good sides for once. I am 50 years old and I am so tired of the general negativity about every things these days. Also you earn my respect for your effort to learn and practice French.
You definitely helped me move to Montreal. I love the Anti-Café too. It definitely has more of a hip/academic vibe than I do, but I enjoy the snacks and can get pretty good work done there
Greetings Dan! I live in upstate NY about 130 km from Montreal and visit every chance I can get. I agree this city has a vibe all its own--welcoming, slower paced (compared to many American cities) and feels like it was made for humans rather than motor vehicles. My fav areas are Mile End, Plateau, Little Italy and the area around LaFontaine Park. I also appreciate your vids (just subbed!) and learn something new each time. Merci Beaucoup!
I used to live in Toronto, and I visited the province of Quebec. It was twenty years ago. My roommates were Québécois, and this video brought back nostalgic memories. I love poutine, but sadly, I have no opportunity to eat it here in Japan. Thanks for sharing this video.
Love your videos!! I totally understand how talking to the camera in public would give you social anxiety! I think it's terrific that you do it anyway. I'm in psych and I struggle with this myself at times- social anxiety! - exposure therapy is the best treatment! I hope by continuing your social anxiety gets better! I am cheering you on! Be well Dan!! 🙂Love your work!!

We are full-time slow travelers and I landed here while beginning to research where we should spend a couple months in Canada (we’re from the U.S. and have only ever passed through airports, it’s an issue that needs to be rectified). You might be one of the most delightful UA-camrs I’ve ever watched (and I do a great bit of our travel research here). I’m now fully in love with Montreal and asking myself if we should just move there and call it. 😅 Thank you for making this decision an easy one and I’m very much looking forward to more of your videos!

I was there the weekend of 6.8.2024. You are right, the city has a fantastic laid-back vibe. I can't wait to return. It turned out F1 was in Montreal that weekend, which I didn't know beforehand, so the city was buzzing even more than normal.

Love this! I am staying on that street in Mont-Royal! First Airbnb since moving here because of your videos! Any tips on getting up to speed on learning French? You should do classes :D
I can explain why summer in Montreal is special. First winter is long, so everyone comes out. Two, the city size is small so all the major attractions are in walking distance. NYC, LA are not like that. (Santa Monica beach to grifth-something else. It could be very far in traffic) (NYC is very diverse but it kinda doesn’t have the “one-ness” feeling. There is one-ness feeling but just not as strong as Montreal people) the culturally laidback-vibe is unique to Quebec, I think. 3. I think NYC party scene and MTL party scene are both good but MTL party scene is more welcoming. (Imagine going to 1 house to another in NYC. It’s just difficult to find parking spot twice. And it becomes a hassle). And, i think it’s a lot safer to walk around (relatively to other major cities in North America). You gotta play the “city lines” video game Dan. I think you might love it! (About lens: don’t get a new lens. What you have is perfect. I don’t know for streets but for ski-vlogging, insta 360 is the way to go. (In terms of battery performance in cold weather and giving many different option of views). (Go pro is no more the leader. )
Coming from Vancouver, I actually find Montreal quite spread out, car-centric and suburban.
