    Dan as you have matured in the past few years your quality of videos has become also really good. This particular guide was really informative especially on your bike. I’m really impressed with you. Keep,up the great work, it’s most appreciated. By the way I moved back to Montreal 6 months ago after 33 years in Vancouver so,I can relate to much of what you say.😊 and the whole point of you having this youtube outlet is to document life speaking English in a predominantly French place. So,sir I salute you.

    19:24-19:33 Riding by the Lachine Canal was always a favourite activity of mine to do as a local, and it offers some of the nicest views of the city imo. I just remember a few years back at this timestamp there didn't use to be condos there and you would have some of the best, close-up unobstructed views of downtown from there. It makes me a bit sad that that view is gone now (and there's a lot more people in the area now too when it used to feel more like a hidden gem of the city), but it's still a great route that I enjoy :)

  • @lawrencea274
    @lawrencea274 3 місяці тому +6

    I would do research on that old restaurant you first went in. I believe it may have been in the movie. "The apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz ".
    I wouldn't call that a lake in Parc LA Fontane , I would say a pond. Lol
    In 1968 the engineering students from McGill University, mathematically figured out the light system on the cross on Mount Royal. So when it lit up at night the lights would show a ? Mark instead of the cross.
    Mount Royal and Central Park NYC are the same landscape designer. .
    Mount Royal has an even more country feeling in the middle of the city than Stanley Park or central park.

    Be careful how you lock your bike... beside that, love your video about my city! Constructive, positive and informative!

  • @jimlawton4184
    @jimlawton4184 3 місяці тому +2

    With regards to locking your bike at the first stop, you may know this already but that is a low-security lockup attaching only the wheel to the rack. Acceptable for short stops, mostly only if you can still see your bike most of the time.
    However, a thief could easily detach the wheel (especially if it is a ‘quick release’ latch. What you might come back to find is your U-lock attached to only the wheel after they take the frame and everything else.
    If you HAVE to use this style of rack that doesnt allow for locking of the frame, use a cable lock attached to the U Lock, and wrap that part around your frame.
    The most efficient and effective way to lock a bike in a city is to slide the ULock around the frame and attack directly to a street sign or bike rack. Not all racks allow this though, and it would be good to see cities phasing out the style that forces you to lock only your wheel because theyre so close to the ground.

I did learn a couple of useful things I might add: 747 bus to the airport from same location is around the corner from the drop off. Literally same grounds (directly across from the main doors). Also, if you are staying at an airport hotel the pick up location is literally up one floor from the 747 bus. Also, if it is a holiday the IGA grocery is probably going to be closed.

      It's not in this video, but Montréal also has a beautiful Botanical Garden and a biodôme next to each other - the Biodôme is a must-go for my daughter, the botanical garden is a must-go for me. If you have young kids, the Biodôme is specially worth it. I live a couple of hours away from Montréal and hold the annual pass for both (it's the same pass, and it also includes the planetarium and some other stuff).

    One thing I would have added, is once you're in Verdun, continue west on the riverfront bike path into LaSalle and the Lachine Rapids (somewhat mis-named since they are in LaSalle). It's not quite as open as it used to be since that spot was established as a bird sanctuary, but it's still nice to get up close to the rapids. There are a couple of natural permanent waves that people like to take their surfboards on. Also you could jetboat or raft the rapids from the old port.
    Also, I don't think the "can't be taller than the mountain" zoning rule is enforced as it was. In the 90s a couple of towers (IBM & Lavalin) got exceptions to be a decent bit taller than the tallest prior building. It may be just that builders have to get exceptions passed through city hall, or maybe the zoning is different - that I'm not sure about.

Do not simply hook your u-lock to the spokes of your front wheel to a bike rack. Lock the front wheel which is more solid. Even better, lock the front wheel and frame to the bike rack with your u-lock. MTL is known for bike theft!

    Montreal is SUCH an AMAZING city….excellent, quality health care, low taxes, incredibly helpful and always extremely welcoming and professional service workers, cheapest rent in Canada, happy, friendly québécois who are super laid back and LOVE anglophones. And working in Montreal is SUCH a paradise, with extremely high salaries, fair workplace practices, incredibly open and inclusive québécois management and coworkers, who even LOVE people who speak French from France and all the other francophone countries around the world. Nooooo, it’s not true that québécois only love their own dialects of québécois French, they are just so gosh darn accepting of ALL francophone nations. And the streets are so beautifully paved and spotlessly clean, never any construction work needed.
    Who needs Paris, New York , London, when you have perfect and never-anything -bad-happens in Montreal? Yes, come, come to Montreal, where all of your dreams will come true! (UA-camrs aren’t the only ones who can spread propaganda about this city) 👎🏼

    MTL is so beautiful. If legally allowed, the remote US workers from NYC/Boston would move to MTL. So they keep the US job but pay less in rent while enjoying the metro living life to the fullest. Not being crowded is a huge plus.

, exemples... à suivre anormaux en réalité.
