How to Draw and Paint Halloween "GRAVEYARD RAVEN" - Paint and Sip at Home - Acrylic Painting Lesson

- PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION - Need a Halloween painting idea? Let me be your acrylic art instructor as I teach you easy step-by-step instructions throughout this fun beginner art video as you learn how to paint a raven on a gravestone in a cemetery just in time for the Halloween season. I grew up in the hill towns of western Massachusetts, where homes were sparse, there were no traffic lights, and the streets were quiet at night. About a half of a mile from my home, there was an old cemetery off the main road with hundreds of gravestones that were shadowed but several huge pine trees. Me, my three siblings, and about dozen other kids from around town, would meet at this graveyard once a month, late at night, to play a game called Ghost in the Graveyard. Sort of similar to Hide and Seek, this game requires that there is a starting point, called ”Homebase”, where everyone runs from and hides somewhere in the graveyard while one person, usually called the “seeker” stands with their back to the graveyard and counts to a certain number before turning around and seeking out the other participants. The goal of the seeker is to catch someone before they make it back to homebase. If you’re tagged, then you become the seeker. Simple as that! Really fun game to play, certainly gets your heart pumping, and super scary if you’re the seeker because you never know who or what is lying behind the next gravestone. So, in the sprite of the Halloween season, and Edgar Allen Poe and his poetry, join me and learn how to paint with acrylics this Halloween canvas painting of a black raven on a headstone. The process for this beginner art lesson is so simple. First, you’ll learn how to paint a background with dark autumn moonlit colors, the perfect backdrop for your spooky Halloween image. Then, you’ll learn how to draw a crow style bird and a gravestone using an easy dot to dot method. After painting a base coat for your large feathered protector and headstone, you’ll apply highlights and shadows to create form and dimension in the objects like a 3-D photograph. After learning how to paint eyes, beak and nose to your bird, you’ll then use a wet on wet painting technique to add layers to your feathers giving them fullness and texture and a realistic appearance. Using only one brush per step, this easy painting process will give you confidence like a painting master to change the painting in any way you want; paint a ghost, skeleton, witch, scarecrow, or hawk that is sitting, standing or hovering over the cemetery with fog, mist or leaves falling from the trees. Write an epitaph on the gravestone and paint flowers around it such as roses or daisies. Just have fun with it and paint a fall image to decorate your home with for the Halloween holiday. Using only 3 brushes, and 6 colors, you’ll paint like a professional and create the best canvas painting in the world! Have a date night, paint party, paint and sip event, or virtual paint night. Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 3/4 inch flat bristle (large), #6 bright (medium), #6 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, burnt umber (brown), purple violet, green oxide, cobalt blue
Other: chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 3/4 inch bristle brush - Paint sky with black, purple, brown and white
2. #6 bright brush - Paint base coat for gravestones with black and white
3. #6 round brush - Finish gravestones with black, white and light gray (made in step 2)
4. Chalk - Draw outline for bird
5. #6 bright brush - Paint base coat for bird with black
6. #6 round brush - Paint face with brown, white, blue, black and light gray
7. #6 round brush - Finish bird with dark gray (made in step 6), light gray, blue, white and black
8. #6 bright brush - Finish wings with dark gray, light gray, blue, white, and black
9. #6 round brush - Paint vines with black, green and white
10. #6 round brush - Sign with black

Sounds like you had a fun childhood. No wonder you like Halloween so much it brings back exciting childhood memories. We have lots of ravens where I live. I really can't stand them. They are mean, destructive and so creepy when they communicate with eachother. I don't what are saying and don't want to know. I have to say you did a amazing job on yours 👍Have you given any thought into wearing a witches costume while doing one of your tutorials for Halloween.
