Excellent vid 💯👏👏👏Very useful info and the effort in putting together a comparison table is most appreciated 👍🏻
I previously learned from a different expat that practically all produce and meats are organic (despite not having stickers).
You guys are the best, you've acclimated rather quickly I must say... Wish you tons of success in Nicaragua 🇳🇮
PS: Subscribed!!! Looking forward to your next vid (Purísima/Gritería??) 😎✌🏻

Thank you!! I'm so glad that you found the video useful and engaging. A lot of the food is indeed organic. A lot of the chemicals that farmers use are expensive so they opt not to use them. We're settling in well thank you :)
Haha, it's not Purisima, unfortunately we didn't film any of that! But it will be something that is special to us.

This is a great video of the price comparison. Thank you so much for sharing! We love La Colonia, Maxi Pali, and Local Mercado. We love the beef sirloin in San Martins and we normally buy farm organic chicken (a whole chicken of 1.5kg only costs C$325, around $9.03), and the flavor is so much better than any supermarket! Highly recommend you try next time~

Once they decide to build a Walmart or La Unión in Rivas, it's game over for La Colonia. I only visit LC once a month to get one to a handful items for specific brands. But LC also has the issue that sometimes you won't find the presentation you're looking for, so I've had cases where I go in and leave the place empty handed. They can also decide to stop stocking certain brands or products in certain stores. So product variety can be inconsistent.
You'll find that prices between Pali, Maxi Pali, La Unión and Walmart are very similar (since they're the same company). Sometimes the price difference is just 1-5 córdobas even though LU and W have better stores (similar to LC). The only difference with LC is that they don't offer free bags or taking them to your vehicle, but that's not really necessary.
Perhaps with the construction of the "costanera" road they'll build one.

It’s great to get a perspective on how much it costs roughly to live in Nicaragua. I am curious can you find meat markets in Nicaragua? Does Nicaragua have good quality steaks, and inexpensive meat? I like to also go to the gym. Is there any nice gyms around Managua/Nicaragua? To lift weights. 😁💪🏻

Thank you, we're so glad you liked the video! I have to be honest, we are not huge meat eaters (although Freddie has from time to time) We mainly just stick to chicken or fish for our meats. Although we can say that in Managua you will find a large selection of what ever you like! It has everything. Meats are pretty cheap here too compared with the US or Canada! But compared to the UK, it's slightly cheaper. The UK has very cheap food for some reason.
Freddie goes to the gym and has found a really good one near where we live. In Managua, you will find any type of gym you want, but outside of there it really depends where you live :)

Nicaragua doesn't have the very cheapest food in the world but is affordable compared to others in the region.

Hi, this supermarket (La colonial) in question is known to be very very expensive for Nicaraguans. If you really want to know how cheap food is here you will need to go to any of the local markets. You'll find vegetables at $1 a kilo of tomatoes, onions, potatoes, etc. I do the groceries for a family of 3 and I spend $7 weekly in vegetables. You just need to know where to buy.
