    Jean Pitney was a guy who could make you believe, A voice that stood alone with a delivery that touched your heart. My wife and I have seen Gene in concert many many times. What a slave to his public the man was. One night in a theatre East Bourne England Gene had just finished his last number before the intermission. The lights came up and he began talking to the audience as he removed a piece of paper from his pocket. "From time to time I receive letters and I just happened to have one here. "Dear Gene "he began to read. " I would love to take you out for dinner after the show tonight " The women in the audience showed great interest. When the screams died down he continued to read. Take you out for dinner tonight, he paused and then make you breakfast in bed" After all the envious voices in the audience had fallen quiet Gene approached the edge of the stage shielded his eyes from the spotlights and said, " Chris? are you out there Chris ? After a moments silence In my deep baritone voice I answered him " Yeah I'm over here Gene." The whole theater just roared with laughter, Gene and his band were all but legless with laughter. My wife bless her only 23 years of age then gave me a dig in the ribs with her elbow. She is now 76years old and we have been married for 54 years and we still play his records. and keep his memory safe in our hearts'.

    Gene was wonderfull I saw him live in 1986 at hull city hall. He was brilliant.he was taken from us years too young. He was a brilliant musical all round talent. A great singer. songwriter . musician . His son Todd is a guitar player. Gene throughtly deserved his place in the rock and roll hall of fame. Now they should induct another of my favourites the wonderfull Neil sedaka. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.

    1962, Williamsport, PA I had the pleasure of MCing his show after which I ask him what he was doing after the show. He quickly said, going back to my hotel. I said why don't you come to my house and we'll watch the old Tonight Show? He said sure! You should have seen the look on my wife's face when we walked in! She was in her bathrobe and hair in curlers. If looks could kill!! Just one final note. When you stand next to Gene, his voice was so powerful you had to move away because it hurt your ears. He's gone but never forgotten! RIP Gene. Bill Stutzman

    His autopsy found that he had a congenital heart disease according to his bio. He'd done a long show the previous night, ending his show with 'Town without Pity'. When his manager found him dead the next morning, he was on the bed still fully dressed from his show the night before. He was in Cardiff Wales. He spoke so clearly, I always wondered why when he sang, some of the words sounded strange. Bless him, RIP. 'Town without Pitney' xx

    Gene Pitney had access to the best medical care in the world, took care of himself, exercised, ate right, did all of the things supposedly necessary to take care of your health. How does he die from hardening of the arteries? Can you be tested for that? Or do you have to actually die before it's made known to you that your arteries are blocked? Why did a good family man like him have to die? It bothers me.

    • @Coolagreen16
      @Coolagreen16 5 років тому +3

      It doesn't always work like that, but I can understand why you are asking this. Actually a person dying is a hard thing for anyone that cares about that person to understand.

      Diagnostics at the time vs today. CT scans can pick up specific areas of damaged coronary arteries. Also, a heart at rest vs at stress (full load exercise i.e. treadmill at extreme angle for 3 minutes can pick up stuff. AIDS was a death sentence 15 years ago - now it can be cured or maintained. Pitney was a fantastic singer, composer, father and husband. His music will live on long after his death.

The CD is German issue but the booklet is in English as the compilation was intended for international release.

    I was Gene's biggest fan and I sang all of his songs as an entertainer myself and even named my second son 'Gene' too. I saw him perform several times and also met him personally. Don't want to be critical here, but Gene did develop a style - a harshness in his voice in his latter years which wasn't pleasant to listen to. For example, if you listen to Gene's recording of 'Town without Pity, his voice is very mellow and seductive, but hearing it live, he changed his style and made it abrupt and harsh. Apart from this small criticism, a very unique voice and one in a million. He was instrumental in making me leave Uni and pursue an entertainment career, celebrating my 52nd year in showbiz this year. Sorry to lose him so early.

      I did notice the change in Gene's voice as the years went by, but Gene's vocal ability was extraordinary and one could not expect him to maintain those amazing high notes as his vocal chords matured. i could sing when i was younger, but as my vocal chords matured i sounded appalling! Gene continued to wow fans at sell out shows, so the fans were clearly happy.
