How could this man not be considered one of the top ten greatest entertainers of all time? Gene is responsible for so many amazing songs. And what a vocal range!
He wrote his hit songs, as well as other pop stars & semi-country records. Tremendous talent, who seems well grounded & skilled within lyrics. Not a flashy guy --- reminds me of B.J. THOMAS. Calm, smooth performance.
I saw Gene Pitney at Foxwoods in Connecticut and he sounded like he did when I was a kid. I grew up listening to him and singing along with him wishing I really was singing with him. He was a real gentleman, family man and so appreciative of his fans. I miss him to this day and always will. Why God took him I will never understand. Thank you for putting these songs together. You gave an old lady a lot of joy.
Ahhhh what a legend!! He sang about love, heartache & teen angst. Another great performer lost waaaay too soon. Gene Pitney and Roy Orbison.........absolute legends of the '60's. They sang our "Feelings" and tugged at our heart strings.
I feel so lucky to have been young when Gene was first recording. He always took my breath away with his powerful voice away. His songs spoke to my teenage heart. I miss him.
I saw Gene in person when he toured with his show The Gene Pitney Show on 5-17-66 at Salina,Kansas's Memorial Hall. Gene was such an good singer and good looking man to. R.I.P Gene we your fans miss you.
Geez he was nice here, so mesmerising. He just stood there with great poise & did his thing with so much ease. He would have made a handsome actor too if he had decided, why not sing & act in movies like so many others. He would have been a knockout on the silver screen.
A complete artist with a gentle manner and rich emotional voice... Miss him... Rest in joy & peace... "O Lord, perpetuate his existence in Thine exalted rose garden, that he may plunge into the sea of light in the world of mysteries." ~ Baha'i Prayer in Part
Live - WOW! Of all Gene's really great hits I especially love his delivery of the Bachrach/David song, "Only Love Can Break A Heart"-- it's so very timeless. It would have been his only Billboard No. 1 hit but was held back at No. 2 by the Crystal's delivery of "He's A Rebel", a song written by Gene himself. I also think "Last Exit To Brooklyn" was a very exciting song by Gene and wish it had charted much higher than it did. It still excites me to this very day, and I just got to sing along.
Came across Pitney's music by accident when I was searching another artist. WOW...SUCH wonderful memories. THIS is music in it's true form. You can understand the words. He has a voice that could stop a train. What passes for music today is crap.
I enjoyed Gene PItney music from the first time I heard his voice and was thrilled to see him, Brian Hyland and KEnny Chandler perform in Halifax when I was a teenager. What a great memory. What a great talent he was he is still loved and respected for his legacy.
My all-time favorite singer, thought he and Roy Orbison both had that operatic style where they could hit notes, nobody else could come close on!!!! Wish I had had the chance to have seen him in concert!!!!
Listened to Gene when I was younger and still love to listen to him now that I am older. He had the greatest voice ever. Miss him, but thanks you and others I can listen to him and remember /When I was young.
I was lucky enogh to meet Gene personally @ Rooty Hill RSL in Australia just prior to his death. What an incredible voice & performer he was & always will be. You really are the front man in an incredible line of talent that has gone to our "Rock & Roll Heaven". You are much missed, but your voice is always available for future people to admire. Rest in peace Gene, you might have gone but you are definately not "forgotten". Best regards your friend Mick Juby, NSW Australia.
This Man was the best in my life and My Mum's. Tomorrow, we say goodbye to Mum, with Only Love Can Break A Heart. I miss his voice and was shocked by his death. R.I.P. Gene You Were The Best & Still Are Uk Fan xxx
CT's gift to the Rock and Roll world and Hall of Fame. Check out his live performance of I'm Gonna Be Strong that he did on the Jimmy Dean Show decades ago. Try to find a better performance back then for any soloist.
Hi seem to be from your same generation I was a teen who felt like he sang in those songs. Such a powerful voice and lyrics I stil listen to him now also\.
@LindaMakofski OH how much I agree with you. I used to listen to one of his albums when I babysat for my mothers good friend. I was like 12 yrs old and I had such a crush on Gene Pitney.

Gene Pitney is one of the few artists that sounds just as amazing singing live as he does in his recordings. He left us way too soon.
Wonderful, no gimmicks straight singing.
i was such a lucky kid, my mom was in love with this mans music, and she passed that love of music to me
Ahhhh what a legend!! He sang about love, heartache & teen angst. Another great performer lost waaaay too soon. Gene Pitney and Roy Orbison.........absolute legends of the '60's. They sang our "Feelings" and tugged at our heart strings.

Wow, his voice is one of a kind. It’s so powerful and it’s obvious that he has to force himself to hold back. You don’t hear that very often!

I saw him perform live 3 times when I was a young teen. What a voice, and so handsome! Good memories, he's missed!
So did I also 3 times , I when in lived my home town eastbourne never forgot him , the first single I brought was I'm going to be strong .
When he was 24 and sang I'm gonna be strong... he did the ending in one breath. Best ending to a song I ever heard.
I didn't know this video existed. It brings back nostalgic memories of my youth. RIP Gene, thank you so much !
I saw him 4 times I in the seventies still play his songs everyday
Originals are very rare in show business. Each deserves to be cherished and acclaim. Hence, Gene Pitney.
I saw him at The Royal Albert Hall, London. He was amazing.
Takes my breath away. That voice, those lyrics , simply beautiful.
A magic voice that will never be forgotten
Wow. Love him, his songs, his song writing. So very awesome

A great singer and song writer, when that term really meant something.

Gene was classic...and writers sought him out. That says it all...
Went to see him at Batley Variety in the mid seventies. Brilliant singer.
