I hold all my memories of seeing him several times while in my teens. He was such a gentleman. He handed me a rose at one concert and kissed my hand, I almost fainted! Loved him ... RIP Gene xx

Barb, I'm sorry to inform you, you have joined my "hate all those who have seen Pitney in concert" list. Nothing personal.... I'm just green with envy and this is how I compensate. My friend Barb in Melbourne saw him more than once... I have yet to forgive her. A rose none the less....and a kiss on the hand.. you know you just made the top of my list. Oddly no one seems to care when they make my list lol What a great memory, but I can't forgive you lol :o)

W0W Barbara! That must have been fantabulous for you! I'm a LATE bloomer! L0L I'm 70 now, and I loved the early 60s music, but I was never very familiar with Gene Pitney! I just watched "24 Hrs From Tulsa" a few mins ago and it gave me chills! GP looks half-way 'normal' to me! Clean cut with no facial hair, tattoos or piercings! That reminds me of the 60s I was lucky to be a part of! To me the 70s was the beginning of the END of anything decent! I thought I was the ONLY one who thought that way until about an hour ago when Gene Pitney said almost EXACTLY the same thing in an interview!

Gene Pitney always had such class. You never heard anything bad about him. A wonderful father and family man. I often wonder why he had to be taken at such a young age. I grew up listening to his music and listen to him to this day. Gene Pitney, I miss you.

Gene worked very hard for his hits, took the business seriously and accomplished so much. I've never heard much about his personal life so it was nice to hear him talk about his sons. He's one of the few who managed to stay married for a lifetime to the same person which is rare for those in show business with all it's demands. Gene is sorely missed by his fans but his music will go on for a long time.:o)

What a FABULOUS interview!! Great questions, insightful interviewer, and of course, the great Gene Pitney, RIP.
P.S. His comments about Pavarotti at the start of the interview was particularly spot-on. I have always said that Andrea Bocelli was NOT a classically-trained singer, nor was he the "opera singer" that people thought he was, and FINALLY someone with the experience and musical knowledge of a Gene Pitney so eloquently proved my point. I have always criticized Bocelli's tiny voice, because he has ZERO support in the voice, improperly singing from this THROAT instead of his DIAPHRAGM. He once tried to take the opera stage in Texas, and it was his undoing. His fellow singers were shocked at how bad he was, and they nearly booed him off the stage. True story.

    Hi Barbara.
Many thanks for your very informative response but since asking the question I've been in touch with a good friend of mine who advises that the key is Eb then moves up to E. His name is Graham Ronson, and he's on you tube,a singer, think you might enjoy him.

@TheLiam ... Check here ... remembering that Gene had a 4 octave voice, he went up and down on most of his songs.
Buggars ... YT won't allow me to give you the link or web address. However, if you check in your search engine and write out the name of the song and ask what key, it will give you options to check! I found it on 'Bing".

Gene had his own style. A bit out of sync being a crooner type amongst the pop/ rock groups of the Swinging Sixties..but it worked because he was stand alone good. He owned the stage during his hey day. His songs were good and well produced. Always sad when icons of your past who touched your heart with their lyrics pass on
