    Always loved Gene Pitney....I loved his voice and choice of songs. What a voice! Don't think he ever got the credit he deserved. He also wrote great songs. He had such a strong voice and high range. I still play his music. When I hear on radio, I turn it up and sing along. He has given me hours of joy.

    • @MyMy-zi7yv
      @MyMy-zi7yv 5 років тому +7

      @@itsalgud1459 Believe me, it's easier, waaaaay easier to sing Frankie Valli's songs then it is to sing Gene Pitneys. Valli sings in falsetto, which basically is singing in an unnatural voice. When Pitney sings he is never singing in falsetto, his range is awesome. But don't get me wrong, Valli's style of using his falsetto is great, I love his songs too. BTW, listen to Pitney's song "Mecca" and you'll know what I'm talking about. Also note, this lead thread mentions Shannon, and I can only assume he means Del Shannon. That guy does not belong next to Pitney or Orbison. Although done many times before him, Shannon did popularize the falsetto in his hit song "Runaway." Frankie Valli came after that with "Sherry"

    "Town Without Pity" has to be one of the most cinematic, evocative records about young love ever made. His vocals were so heartfelt and impassioned. As for his songwriting talent, I would think he could've lived fairly handsomely off the royalties from the legendary "He's a Rebel" alone, as it is clearly one of the best pop records ever made.

    I grew up listening and loving Gene Pitney songs. From the 60's and up to today, I still listen to his songs. He was known as 'The Voice' in the 60's and Roy Orbison was 'The big O'. I would loved to have had the chance to see Gene live on stage and missed it when he was in my city.

    Gene Pitney had that rare combination of great talent, a beautiful and expressive voice that was instantly recognizable and the ability to work well with other artists and so bring out the best in him and the person he collaborated with.
    I fear we won't see his like for a long time.

    When I was 6 years old my Mom asked what I wanted for Christmas. I replied, a teddy bear and a Gene Pitney album! That was in 1960 and I was in love with him! Still am, today. I listen to him often and this was a fantastic vid. I went to see him and he was fantastic. Kind, warm and one of the greats!

    Much too underrated and overlooked absolutely outstanding singer. His voice was unique and one of the greatest sounding ever. His voice was of a quality that achieved greatness in its beauty and power. The feeling he expressed in his songs was soul deep and filled your whole being as you listened. He never received the acclaim he deserved as with the likes of Roy Orbison whom he most closely aligned. Miss so much the pop and rock and roll songs of those days and Gene Pitney whose voice can still be with us, thank God.

    I remember How much I loved Gene Pitney in my teens. so many great songs. That voice, Wow. I didn't realize how many songs he wrote at the time and the 60 groups he wrote songs for. Replaying them there wasn't one song I didn't like. My good friend David got me to listen to Twenty four hours from Tulsa. So I went back in time. LOVE IT.

    I saw Gene at the Veterans Auditorium in Providence,R.I. along with other artist of the time. His voice was so powerful that it filled the auditorium like no other. You could hear a pin drop as the audience was so captured by his amazing voice. His voice was so filled with emotion that it passed over to you. I was in love with my first girl, and his songs made that first love very emotional. Rest in peace Gene, you will be remembered.

    Gene Pitney was simply unique. You knew who it was as soon as one of his songs came on the radio as he was so distinctive in his vocals. He and his record company, Musicor were responsible for one of the greatest two sided records ever; namely 'Only Love Can Break A Heart' and 'If I Didn't Have A Dime.' Unbelievably, not becoming a hit in the UK although I bought it. He did fare better with 'Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa' and subsequent releases and Gene became a regular visitor to our shores due to his popularity. He ranks along side other greats of the time like Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, Ricky Nelson, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly,
    Bobby Vee, Neil Sedaka and Pat Boone who were the backdrop for many of us in our teenage years. No Elvis? To be perfectly honest, nobody ranks along side with him; he was just simply phenomenally untouchable.
