I know this is an older video but I am new to fly tying and fishing. I used this pattern yesterday and caught my first fish on a fly that I tied. Thanks !!
I hope you have had many more successful times with the scud. Grey is my favorite color anywhere there is grass or vegetation in the river. Grey in Arkansas, olive most everywhere else. Fish on!
@@geraldg7420 Agree on the colors, but I like orange under dam tail water, which is a lot of the fishing we are doing in CO.
This is a very beautiful video of a perfect fly. Thank you.
Nothing better than to watch tightlinevideos. By far the best UA-cam channel for fly tying. Just like thenewflyfisherman another awesome UA-cam channel.
you have some of the best and most informational videos I've seen so far and I've seen a lot of fly tying videos and I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make them and please keep it up
wow. Now THIS is how a fly tying video is done. Excellent job! Very informative.
I don't even know why I watch other tying videos...yours are the best, great camera work and editing.
Thanks, glad you liked it. I fished with just yesterday and did quite well, it's one of my favorite patterns.
The whip finish tool I use in the videos is made by Matatelli and is more than 20 years old. I ground the bottom edge of the tool into a cutting edge. It's not hard to do and it works very well.
Love how great quality your videos are, everything is perfect and laid out great. Thanks a ton.
having never tied or fished this pattern, but having always glared at the unessecary difficulty in every other scud pattern, i thin i already love this pattern.
You have a amazing talent breaking these down and showing the materials that are used. Your voice and clear speaking just bring these videos together. I really appreciate the time you invest to make your practice at such a high level. The only thing I wish that the recipe for the fly could be included in the video description, generally I stop the video and do a screen shoot to get the material list.
+Mark Dimond We have chosen not to include recipes for a variety of reasons but if you go to howtoflyfish.orvis.com/fly-tying-videos you can access all of our videos broken down by type and get recipes for each. Hope this helps.
@@tightlinevideo great tip I went to the Orvis site and found all I needed Thank you!
Awesome video. x2 to showing the live scud. I just read in a fly tying book that the orange center represents a pregnant scud. This must be why it works with or without it. Thanks again.
A really useful and educational tutorial, one of the best on UA-cam...
Well Done!!
That’s a great pattern. Easy to come up with different variations and colors that I’m sure will be effective.
Nice! Tight lines🕷️🐜🐛!!!!!
great video. I like the dubbing teaser.
Great video - audio and production. Like.
Love this easier scud pattern!
Excellent video, the scuds live and swimming was very helpful.
As always, another great vid, thank you very much !
Great Video. I love the Live Scud Video, really helps me picture the scud in use. Can't wait to try the scuds I tie. Dettleff
great video , clear and concise .... thanks .
I was hoping that you would be able to do a tutorial of the supplies needed vice, threads and so on, for scuds, nymphs and dry flies some time.
much appreciated..thank you!
Thanks for the tip. Helped a lot.
Now that's a BAD ASS SCUD!!
For other backing materials, there is a product called scud backing (marketed by Wapsi I believe. I may be wrong though) and is very stretchy and durable. For smaller flies, you can cut the 1/8 strip into smaller strips. It works very well and comes in many colors
Nice presentation and fly making
Nicely done!
Ive been using strips i cut from the bags my beads come in for "thin skin" but afterseeing this I guess ill break down and buy the real deal for scud patterns...
Make it look so easy!
Great video
can you make a video of you fly-tying table/setup, i am making on myself and would like to see others for ideas
Nice tie!
excellent video
will this work for bluegill
Love your videos:-)
Your fly tying videos are simply the best. What bobbin is that that you use? Never seen any one like it.
extremeoutdoors361 Rite Bobbin. They have adjustable thread tension which is very nice. Different sizes, different tube materials, a real quality product.
Nice and simple. Do you add weight to them at all? Favorite part? "..using this high tech brush..." 😆😆😆
High Tech Dubbing Brush!! Indeed... Love it though.
I use velcro it works well
Awesome!!!
Could you just use 2 goose biots for the antennae?
I really like the music, who is the band?
That is a cool bug. What brand of scissors are those? I like the size. Thanks for the videos.
I saw the brand in another of your videos.
I have a question what kind of bug do these turn into or do they just stay aquatic bugs
What time of year are scuds in the water and when should you use them?
My understand is they are found in virtually every fresh water body year round, an especially good food source in winter along with midges
I can't ever get my tail just right. Any pointers. Love the videos by the way.
Kody Stroebel Use less material, keep it really short or ignore it altogether.
Will this pattern work alright without the thin skin?
using a plastic bag strip of same size (from zipplock) will do the trick as well. Give it a try!
Nathan Martin I always use ziplock
it's better with the shell back. that's what makes it a scud. i like the plastic baggie idea. all kinds of stuff around the house to use
dogdogdogdogdogdog
Something tells me you did not actually use a size 16 for the video. Struggling with a size 16 to get it all in.
Yes it is a size 16. I also tie them on 18's as well.
