I was a big fan of Takes Off. It's a fun and surprising little "what if" story that gives deeper glimpses into the characters. The animation is gorgeous, the music is catchy, it's consistently funny but also has some genuine heart.
Speaking to its place in the Scott Pilgrim universe and fanbase, though... it's been a massive double-edged sword. Takes Off has basically acted as a pair of jumper cables wired directly to the largely-forgotten franchise's nipples. It's as popular now as it was when it first came out. But its new slew of fans are largely children and young teens. And that's fine, I guess, but it's made enjoying this resurgence of relevance a lot less fun, because so much of the discourse around has been drowned in brainrot and memes. And so the fanbase is currently split between us ancient thirtysomethings and these very enthusiastic kids.

I really enjoyed the show for what it did and what it added to the Scott pilgrim world.
Spoilers below for anyone who hasn’t watched the video or the show.
I liked how the alternate future Scott is from the film’s timeline, and showed how it wasn’t a “happily ever after” ending for Scott and Ramona. They had their time together, but it did not last because neither of the characters grew.
Having Ramona confront her exs was so nice to watch. Seeing how she hurt them, how they may or may not have gotten over her, ow they grew as people and were able to forgive. I like that, Ramona unintentionally created the league of evil exs, so it was very satisfying to watch her deconstruct the league and move forward.

It's dismaying how most people are perfectly okay with woke propaganda if it's not as badly written as it usually is.
