    I can understand why they condensed this to the whole story of the series is put into one season. Netflix being all canceling shows regardless of how good they’re doing does put that fear into a very big perspective especially animation.

      To me it makes sense. This way its a reason for people to buy the comics as one thing, and then the anime and moves and whatever else as another. More incentive for people to buy more. So can't be mad at the creator for it as its a sound business strategy.@@otherprisma7354

    Fun fact. The comic creator confirmed this and each older versions are alternate timelines. He said comic book Scott and Remona don't show up at all in this because they overcame all thier issues and problems at the end of the comics which made them perfectly together after the end of the comics. Basically they were the married ones but never divorced or any relationship issues at all with thier future together.

    Honestly for me, I just blame the marketing. They marketed it as it was going to be an adaption of the comic and it wasn’t. But honestly, once I got over the initial shock, I was able to enjoy it for what it was. However it did make me a little sad. See I think that they were able to keep the real narrative under wraps was genius. These days a lot of marketing leaves little to the imagination and we almost know or can at least predict exactly everything that's going to happen in a show based off the marketing. The fact that they subverted our expectations I thought was refreshing. Even the title "takes off" has a double meaning as scott literally disappears for half the show.

    • @mmyr8ado.360
      @mmyr8ado.360 7 місяців тому +21

      @@kingbushybeard6543The problem was that it has already been done before and it didn't stick the landing like what the producers would've wanted to like what happened to the He-Man and She-Ra reboot.
      The expectations of the producers were either far-off or underestimated in terms of audience reception.
      If the marketing of this show has subtle hints with the change of the plot rather or straight up being honest about it than hiding it completely, then intrigue would've been produced by the audience towards the show rather than a faithful adaptation like what they expected.

      Old Scott failed because he simply absorbed Nega Scott, resolving to not make the same mistakes... but then settled for that, not taking the extra effort to become better. He settled for just... not being worse.
      This newest, latest Scott should do even better, because, in facing Old Scott, he has faced *both* Nega Scott, AND himself.
      He's faced himself at his worst, AND at his "just good enough", and seen that self-improvement is something that you can't ever really 'finish'.
      (I also low-key love how Old Ramona and Super Ramona show that the blame isn't entirely on Scott - that the breakup is *also* on her for self-sabotaging and always running away from her problems. Because EVERYONE should always strive to be better, not *just* Scott. And now that both Scott AND Ramona have been through this, their "happily ever after" should, this time, TRULY be "ever after")

Take Masters of the Universe Revelations and The Last of Us Part 2, where the marketing was heavily misleading and then became an insult to the fans of the IP.
    Even if Takes Off was good, the misleading marketing felt like it was gonna follow the trend of “bait and switch” that in past instances would have led to a worse product, and people are sick of that tactic

      Gideon and Lucas both broken and emasculated and it shows
      Wallace just a ass here who's not even Scott's friend at all, even the movie did better

      @@neoPeake i wouldnt say the anime isnt engaging, but i do agree with @patientprogrammer about the pacing. Ep 1 felt very rushed, but once u know ending, its understandable. Ep 2, ep 3 and ep 4 are pretty great. Ep 5 is more light hearted, i think some ppl dont like it but im okay with it. Here comes the problems. Ep 6 felt fast and slow at the same time @@. Gideon/Goose's story came out pretty lackluster, and the answer for the disappearance of scott pilgrim took too long. Ep 7 is pretty good, but i think they stuggle on how to get Scott back to the present. It felt unsatisfying, but great ending on a cliffhanger kinda made up for it. Ep 8 wasted too much time in the beginning and didnt picked up right away for some reasons. But overall, its still pretty good. Another pacing issues could lie in the jokes. I love the dialogue, they are great. But the jokes sometimes can felt very flat. Take the scene where Scott asked Julie about Ramona. Idk, it flowed very weirdly imo, compared to the movie. Other reasons might be because of the voice acting. Some voice actors are just so gud, like Ramona, Roxie and Knives, some are great, like Scott, Young Neil, Kim, some felt a bit flat, Stephen and Envy. The video even showed a scene here 1:28, the line was delivered pretty boring imo (this is changed if u go with the japanese dub, overall they felt better, but i connect more with the english dub cause they are still above average, VAs are from the movie and i can understand english (im vietnamese, english is important in my country)). Final point, i think they didnt use the anime medium to its fullest. Granted, the anime is animated beautifully. But the movie and the comic are pretty great at using their medium, especially with Edgar Wright directing the movie. The same thing didnt apply to the anime though.

    To me it didn’t. I was open to the fact that Ramona was gonna be the protagonist of this anime series. And not only did they improve her so much compared to the movie, but they also let her have emotion in her feelings and how she acts and speaks which is cool.
    Too me, it just gave Ramona more character as well as some of the evil ex’s and some other side characters like Young Neil and Knives for example.

      I was expecting more side stuff since it was a longer run time than a movie but no, they cut crash and the boys, and the clash at demonhead drummer. I felt the side characters barely had anything to do besides wallace being put into a more main character position. It was nice to have more time with the different exes though, and the concept of working through their issues instead of fighting was a different take, I can see how in this day that would be the narrative they want to showcase. Kind of a full circle. Having scott removed for so long was a weird choice for a show called scott pilgrim though, I can see how people would feel bamboozled.

  • @the_maverickk
    @the_maverickk 7 місяців тому +44

    Speaking honestly... I had the exact same feeling as Sabersparks friend. Where the disappointment soured what is actually a pretty good show.
    You have to remember that a lot of fans form the comics have wanted an animated adaptation from the beginning. Like we accepted the Live Action film as being cool, but it's basically the "speed run" version of the story. It is running 200km an hour and gives no time to breath... it does it well, but again it's like a sliver of the actual story.
    So when the creator announced that they were making a Scott Pilgrim anime, you bet the fans who have been there since the beginning, they were pumped. An actual animated adaptation. Now Bryan Lee O'Malley did comment that the animated series was going to be it's "own thing" but you honestly never know what that means in this day and age. It could just mean that they are adapting it but it's going to still have things missing, or it's going to change some part of the story... but overall the impression given was that it was still going to be some form of an adaptation of the graphic novels.
    All the trailers and media also implied this as well, as we saw a lot of the first book adapted in that first episode. I went in blind, and I tell you, the end of the first episode was a huge punch to the gut, and the second episode didn't help. I had to stop watching at that point for the night. I was pretty off put, even if I loved the animation and music. I did finish the entire series, and even if I loved parts of it, my overall enjoyment was still soured by the misdirect and the disappointment. Maybe one day I'll be able to enjoy it more, but for now I'm fine with a one time watch.
    It also just stings that this means we will probably never ever see the books get fully adapted, and to me that will always be a shame, since there's so much that people are missing out on.

      Does bother me that they undo all of Scott's character development from the books. You know earning the "Power of Understanding" that he symbolically gained.
      As Takes Off basically says Scott stopped being understanding and talking things out with people and went back to his old selfish self absorbed ways.
      But such is the problem with all media today. Can't have any hero actually retain all their experience, gotta tear them down.
