I picked up a Super Game Boy at Game Crazy for $5 to play some Zelda Links Awakening DX. The custom border and color pallet makes it easy on the eyes. No blurring is the best thing on the SGB.
Thanks for the video, brought back some good memories of my Super Gameboy and mouse :) I have to say I miss my super scope 6 a lot. I played the heck out of that one....I've played it with a lightgun on my PC, but it's just not the same :(
If I remember correctly, there was a pretty cool "Easter Egg" on the Super Game Boy with the those backgrounds. If you left them a while after pausing a game, they'd change. For example there was one of a wooden house in a field. If you left it for a while, eventually you'd see a sunset and then a night-time scene of the same field. Not a big deal, but a nice touch.
I never played the Super Game boy back when it was really popular. I did get a light for my original game boy and it helped a lot. Now i just play Color Game boy games on my PC.
OMG!!! I really have to say.. I'm impressed what that thing could do :o Now I Really, REALLY want one. I do have both a SNES and a few game boy games, so I would love to have it :D Awesome review
Kirby's dreamland 2 had some additional sounds, as did Wario Blast. If you can get Space Invaders for the GameBoy, get it and play it on the Super GameBoy, it's truely amazing. I have a second hand SNES and SGB. I sadly don't have Space Invaders, but I have borrowed it.
Gold and Silver were "For Game Boy Color" games but are actually original Game Boy Games. Crystal was a Game Boy Color game. What I mean is that Gold and Silver were optimized for the Game Boy Color, but were Original Game Boy capable.
You can plsy the GB version of SFII with 2 SNES controllers, but older multiplay games such as Tetris won't allow you to play 2 player mode. BTW, get Space Invaders for the Game Boy and play it on your Super Game Boy, it's cool, Sadly I don't have Space Invaders.
Mulan did have a special soundtrack ?Wow that's pretty awesome it did have one ,and btw I was wondering if you could help me because I am trying to find a used copy of mulan for gameboy but i don't know where to find one at?
The games that I know that are Super GameBoy Game Paks are Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, The Legend of Zelda: LInk's Awakening DX, Space Invaders, Wario Land 2, Dragon Warrior, and Pokemon Gold/Silver.
If the game you're playing can be played on both the original Game Boy and Game Boy Color, it will work on the SGB, but if the game is only for Game Boy Color only, you can't play it on SGB, you'll just get an error message.
you might wanna mention that the super game boy and even the snes in general has real problems playing on a non- crt tv. I've found that the super GB in particular has problems with scanlines on my 720p projection tv.
the super game boy has some extra features in games with super game boy support and i like using the snes controller to play gb games but it doesn't support game boy color (it plays gbc games that support gb in gb mode obviously) but doesn't give the extra color in games like zelda links awakening dx and it wont play "for gbc only" games like super mario bros deluxe, mario golf etc and it doesn't play GBA games
I got it 1994. Well...for me it has a bit the same problems like the NES. Its not booting up sometimes, cause the games or the connector to the snes are not working right. Probably it was a bug in the first versions of the SGB? Whatever..its a nice gimmick and to play GB-Color games is realy nice on it.
I remember swearing I'd get this, but I decided against it because even games made to use the full capabilities of the SGB still weren't shown in full color, except for the title screens. So I didn't see the point of it anymore. Though I guess it's useful if you wanted to save battery power on your Game Boy, or just get a clearer look at Game Boy games when you want to play them and you're at home
The Super Game Boy can play all of the original Game Boy games (usually contained in a plain grey cartridge casing), AND first-generation (usually contained in a black cartridge casing) Game Boy Color games. It will NOT play Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS/DSi/3DS, or second-generation Game Boy Color games (which typically had a clear cartridge casing, and also have the words 'GAME BOY COLOR' on a CONVEX strip at the cartridge's top on the label side). Sadly, even the SGB2 can't play GBC2 games.
thx. I'm hoping to get some more GB games for it. I currently have : Super Mario Land Tetris Bomberman GB (Appears to be pretty rare, I paid £1 lol) Mario and Yoshi I'm hoping to start sticking some videos on youtube up, but i really need a better camera as mine is an eyetoy and the quality is shite.. lol Tim
i jsut got super gameboy for $4 at the flea market and luigi's mansion for gamecube for $8.95 +6% tax. think that is a good price. seen it other places for aroud $5 in a game store too.
I paid £3.38 for mine inc P&P on eBay. Arrived today. Just need to buy some games lol, only original game boy game I have is Super Mario Land 1... I need 2 (aka best GB game there was) Tim
go to Wikipedia and look up, "List of Super Game Boy games" then go down to "p" (p for pokemon) it says Pokémon: Blue Version Pokémon: Green Version (Never released outside of Japan) Pokémon: Gold Version (GBC) Pokémon: Red Version Pokémon: Silver Version (GBC) Pokémon: Yellow Version (GBC, except Japanese version) Pokémon Pinball (GBC) Pokémon Trading Card Game (GBC, Multiple Borders)

The super Nintendo is my last and final game console after that no more and I mean it I original game boy game it is donkey Kong I'm going to play that on my super Nintendo entertainment system.
Never had experience with SGB. Like you, forking out 60 bucks for this was not top of my list. top notch video... thanks!

I still have the box for my Super Gameboy. Awesome video man.

I really have to say.. I'm impressed what that thing could do :o

@allanbrito123 yes it shud definately play GOLD and SILVER as well seeing as how gold and silver CAN be played on a gameboy pocket in black and white
Yes it plays the first gen pokemon games. I remember playing pokemon yellow on it and it had a nice pokemon background too!!
I still have the Super Game Boy for my SNES. It's cool to play game boy games on the tv.
@MN12BIRD
darn... I wonder if it will play Pokemon Gold? It was a GB original, then had a Color version...
l;ol actually forthatwhole color thing, i found that black white red and yellow make a great combination for most gameboy games
Gold and Silver were "For Game Boy Color" games but are actually original Game Boy Games. Crystal was a Game Boy Color game. What I mean is that Gold and Silver were optimized for the Game Boy Color, but were Original Game Boy capable.
I liked the theater background.
sweet thing :) where do you get all your stuff? here in sweden older stuff like that are hard as hell to get hold of :)

i wish theres a way to save the custom backgrounds
Nice video . I never wanted one of these as a kid becasue i had a gameboy . btw how do you record the games screen ?
did sega make one of these for the game gear?
Mulan did have a special soundtrack ?Wow that's pretty awesome it did have one ,and btw I was wondering if you could help me because I am trying to find a used copy of mulan for gameboy but i don't know where to find one at?
is there going to be a part 2? i could have sworn that the super gameboy did something if you turned it on without a game.
The games that I know that are Super GameBoy Game Paks are Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, The Legend of Zelda: LInk's Awakening DX, Space Invaders, Wario Land 2, Dragon Warrior, and Pokemon Gold/Silver.
@viraticwars
It'll play all the GB/GBC Pokemon games except Crystal and Pokemon Puzzle Challenge.

I got one the week it came out. I mostly played metroid 2 on it.
you might wanna mention that the super game boy and even the snes in general has real problems playing on a non- crt tv. I've found that the super GB in particular has problems with scanlines on my 720p projection tv.
@TGamersFB They made a Game Boy Player for the GameCube, that can play GBA games.
Thoughts compared to gameboy player? When using both on svideo, I think I prefer the super gameboy
the super game boy has some extra features in games with super game boy support and i like using the snes controller to play gb games but it doesn't support game boy color (it plays gbc games that support gb in gb mode obviously) but doesn't give the extra color in games like zelda links awakening dx and it wont play "for gbc only" games like super mario bros deluxe, mario golf etc and it doesn't play GBA games
Cool. I saw one of these but was hesitent to buy it. Anyway cool review.
@Segadude3000
For some reason the game gear was capable of more colours than the genesis/mega drive so that would have been impossible.

yeah. i was thinking there was something like a game like there is in mario paint for some reason.
The Super Game Boy can play all of the original Game Boy games (usually contained in a plain grey cartridge casing), AND first-generation (usually contained in a black cartridge casing) Game Boy Color games.

Now days i like the Game Boy Player for the Game Cube but for it's day the Super Game Boy was pretty uber and a darn good idea.
houston tx highway 6 is cool too.
GBA wasn't out at the time, they made a GBA player for the GameCube though.
i jsut got super gameboy for $4 at the flea market and luigi's mansion for gamecube for $8.95 +6% tax. think that is a good price. seen it other places for aroud $5 in a game store too.

@TGamersFB The GBA player for the GC will play GB, GBC, and GBA games.
