Donington Park with Area Motorsport - Golf 7 GTI Drive & Track M3

- A few weeks ago Rob from Area Motorsport invited me down to Donington Park to drive his Golf GTI mk7. The car is a road car but a tool to develop their race cars which we have seen a lot of at various events this year.
Big thanks to Area for the invite down and trusting me with the car, including their mechanic Jonny for letting me drive his M3.
This is part 1 of 2 from this day, as we were also booked on the evening session with the Nissan Skyline...

Rob at areamotorsport is a great guy, he did the work on my car.
Highly recommended.
Great video as always. 👍
Oh my goodness I've always wanted to know what it is like to drive a Mk7 Golf GTi at the Donington Park Trackday Circuit track but now I don't need to because my favourite MR2 Racing car driver DannyDC2 drove one for me and told me the opinions I should have and that is nice and exciting.
Everyone's got a bit of golf in them 😁 It looked so smooth to drive 👍
its true!
Area motorsport are on the same industrial estate as me and its actually crazy to see the same m3 and gti i see weekly on one of my favourite channels😂
They’re good eggs
I’ve never been a Golf guy, just secretly been admiring the capability, but I’ll never own one, just gimme my 850 T5 and I’m happy. Great video, Dan!
Hi Dan , Another great video ......I have only just found you on UA-cam and would just like to say I really like the content the honesty and the hard work that you put in ....
Thanks
Golfs are awesome track cars! From a tuned GTI Clubsport MK7 owner 👍
My dream wheels for a golf, god it looks so good. And it goes well too it seems.
Lol @ the seat belts ("modern car probs...) and ending. Also, poor Kev.
Very easy to drive vw style and quick to boot. How sweet that it wanted to keep you safe… great vlog Danny 👍🏻
Yeah Danny, we all love a bit of Golf inside us all, never a truer word said. Sweet days.
"im fookinsat int car mate"
cheers Dan
a GTi is a bit like reverse of your mullet hairstyle, party up front under the bonnet and business in the back with 4 seats and practical boot
The seat belt tightens because it's pre-tensioning . The car thinks you're avoiding a crash with heavy braking at the bottom of craner curves.
its so bad
Nice Golf!! ...Love the ending! LMAO!
Danny is the new Misha
Dream Golf spec right there
"i'm not gonna drive it ten tenths" proceeds to set off the seatbelt tensioners, try out the brakes and take the tasty out of the tyres
Champion. Gee it the spaniels lad….
Love the gran turismo music at the end
I’m definitely taking my golf r on donnington this year. Been wanting to for months
Got a few weeks left to make that happen
@@dannyDC2 I tried yesterday but was all sold out. I saw the dark side boys there.. was slippy as hell..
Great to see more Donington action
Look forward to watching this but I'm off to Donington tomorrow for a day in the S2000. Will come back to watch tomorrow
Be interesting to see golf times vs m3 times, I’m sure the golf is at least as capable but given the option I’d take the m3 out every day of the week
I was kinda hoping you were at donny on Friday so you could have a go in my DC5 turbo and see what you thought..
Killer seatbelt… 😱😱😱😂😂😂
Having had a play with Rob driving an ep3 when I had an ep3 he can certainly peddle a car. Was good fun though!
Kev forgetting the keys, classic, I take it he couldn’t be arsed poking something in his barrel then 😂
Man was ready to go full Devvo on that seatbealt.
is it wrong that i want one.? Good Vid Dan! hopoe there will be more "whats it like on track" videos
I think the fast over fun remark summed it up for me. Very capable car but just not very involving.
9:11 when a Mark VII Golf catches a Ferrari on exit, the owner of the Ferrari might want to try something else.
….like racing lessons😂
i can appreciate that golf.
Lovely hair 👍👍
The thumbnail of this video "Golf 7 GTI vs Ferrari" really attracted my attention because it was such a good thumbnail I am here eager to learn the outcome of these 2 cars battling at Donny.
Thanks for your comment! I can tell you are a real Golf enthusiast.
Japanized E46 M3 with NT03's is perfect spec for me, friendship ended with TE37
Ddc2👏👍
Mischa gives it 10 10 at the ring 😂😂
10 taps with the barrier too
Excellent
if i'd forgot my keys i'd have been raging... I had a MK7 Golf but a GTD for a while, best daily i'ver ever had
5:12 mk1 focus just behind the fiesta on the left
hard brakes setting the belt off
Great video as always. I can’t help but find Golfs dull, I can’t put my finger on it but they are just too competent
ones with awd are even more competent
@@davidhorrocks2627 even more dull?
@@dannyDC2 suppose it depends on the use, best to have a healthy selection of fwd, rwd & awd - horses for courses
The seat belt on my Mk7.5 Golf GTi TCR does that on track, I wondered what it was at first. It sounded like that a whip
Golf was having a good time getting spanked, so it gave you a hug boyo
VAG cars have electronic seat belt pre-tensioners rather than the old fire and forget gun powder style, if you had had the windows down they would have closed as the car was preparing you and it for a crash, which clearly didn't happen, if you approach an object to quick or get to close they also auto brake which could also be a bad thing on track.
I konw i'm not going anywhere pal i'm f**king sat in car! (T-shirt please)
What was more better and pleased to drive? M3 or GTI?
Danny how were the Golfs lap times compared to your mr2's times
Don't the Golfs with performance pack have a proper mechanical diff, electronicly controlled?
If they are the same as the other performance VAG fwd's then it is a clutch driven diff, electronically controlled. Very competent but can spit you laterally.
The seatbelt feature tried to kill me going into karussel on the ring with my mates gti😂 not what u want on track.
What did you think of these Cobra Nogaro seats compared to your favourite, the Recaro Pole Position? I'm trying to choose a pair of fixed back seats to take a lot of weight out of my car and add more lateral support but it's my everyday drive too so the lower bolsters might be better for my use.
I Own a non pp GTI mk7. I find it to be more golf than GTI... . Im sure with a couple of bolt ons and a nice map it would be bring out its true potential.
Completely different cars but... Coming to this from a DC2 how much will I hate it?
😎😎👍👍
What’s the music at the end of the video? It’s really really bugging me? Is it MarioKart64???
Danny are these tests done on a 'you bend it you buy it' basis ?
Of course
Dan is it better than the Yaris GR? thanks for some more track vid'😂👍
What was the verdict of the m3? Making you think brake upgrades next for when you want to do something to it, or are you dying to buy his short shifter from it, you seemed to be a massive fan.
already got some, just not had time to fit them yet (the brakes obviously not the shifter!)
@@dannyDC2 do you rate the Porsche brembos over the standard callipers or think pads make a bigger difference? Be interesting to see what upgrade from them you’ve gone for whenever you do that video 👍🏻
How boring is DSG for a track day car though
Reckon you coulda smoked that Ferrari in my LWB over weight 130bhp sprinter camper tbf lad. Mullet power and that
Now then
Stage 1 traction is not good for your back brakes
ferrari is another of the all the gear no idea
Did the car not have paddle shifters?
Does but small
you can see the gear lever is knocked over to the left which means it is in manual mode so you can shift sequentially with the lever or paddles, the paddles move with the steering wheel so they are hidden behind it
Want to drive my Avensis estate D4D £400 special. Its 118hp and many torques 0-60 in about 12 seconds. Needless to say its not for the faint hearted.
Think he needs more practice before he could handle that 😆
@@desb9639 very true the suspension is extra loose as well and its had the airbag recall from toyota last year. So you know its been well maintained
Sorry to hear that's what you have suppose it gets you from a to b ok
all the abs, traction control, dsg etc. just seems so lifeless to me. Not my idea of fun but cant deny they are dead quick cars.
Belt tesioners
Pity it wasn’t a manual
Nice cars but they just look so boring been an auto
